I upgraded too but sound and WiFi was working fine. I didn't installed any driver manually except the driver from Windows update.
Startmenu was very buggy, cortana opened itself and more but I didn't tried a clean install. I only installed windows and 10 in VMware on the spectre. No problems, everything was working fine.
But I'm on Windows 8.1 again. Will do a clean install when windows 10 is at RTM.

While going from tablet to Notebook mode, the 2 parts Display and base unit scratched ....
The mouse was a bit loose too, so I was at the store again and I took the Exhibition one which have a great trackpad. I only paid 1100€ for the QHD, i7 one,

Guys, laptop arrived. Awesome laptop, really happy with it. But only one thing: While laptop is idle, I can listen to a crackling noise or like a noise from something "working" like static. But it isn't the speakers...any one with this?
-
Also, Idle temp is 35-40s, while highs are 60-70s....I have the i7
-
I've seen a few other posts about this, but no experience. You have the i7 or i5?
-
So I my i5 x360 arrived today. Things I noticed so far:
- It does have that cheap, plasticky sound when I tap on the touch pad. It only happens when I tapped a little bit stronger than usual. My i7 did not have this problem though.
- I finally have a battery estimate with Batter Bar! Though I think it is really inaccurate for it's only saying 5 1/2 hours, fully charged. Heck my i7 lasted more than that (7 - 8 hours).
-
Cortana is awesome when it works hehe.

I'm really sorry for the delayed response. I can't seem to bring up the image you attached on mobile devices (Samsung Note 4 phone, Note 8 tablet) and life has been chock full of genuine crisis for the past week and I lack the presence of mind to look at what I presume is your Batt Infi View log. One thing I can asuure you: if you are using a laptop or tablet of recent-ish vintage with a Core iX U or Y cpu, or anything weaker, a propetly working B. I. V. app will show significant and nearly instantaneous change to power consumption if you substantally change screen brightness, # of busy browser tabs open, # of streaming tabs open - especially with one using the screen to run during measurement. Based on what you have said, I assume your BIV log show virtually no changes, I would suggest you uninstall BIV program - and changed registry settings (use Advanced Uninstaller Pro from makers of Revo - great tool for all uninstalls to teset any registry settings the ptog set or altered plus any files or folders it created that Windows uninstall tool doesn't get).
If you do all of the above and Battery Info View still registers no or little change in rate of consumption after major changes in known battery-eating operations, assume that someting else installed in your machine - explicitly labeled as "power monitor" or the like - or not! maybe an innocuous part of a different proram put there by the computer mfr or a program you downloaded. It may or may not be worth your time to do all of this sleuthing for this purpose - perhaps jus rely on the most advanced version of Battery Bar and in testing for consumption changes due to, say, major screen dimming, just have as little as possible running, have a bright, colorful static image on the screen and wait the 3-5 mins or so (pure guess) for BB to show the differential from that one change and, if it is major, trust the tool to suss out and quantify your other major battery-sucking causes and set up a custom power plan for running in battery for maximum endurance, resetting any function you need at a given time even if you know - and now you will **know** - how much time on a full charge you will lose by doing so.
Sorry for this "wall of words" super long post but it's all real info, no fluff, and those who don't care can skip the whole thing.
Last, final, last (!) thing I will mention is that I never travel without this external battery - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B4...L75_QL70&keywords=external+laptop+battery - which will charge most computers from empty to full in under 1.5 hrs - and charge itself from AC power in barely over an hour (yes, amazing!). It weighs less than a pound, has three voltage settings to recharge everything from cell phones to workstation laptops (worked great on a Thinkpad W-540 my colleague had) and it's configured to be very thin and about the l x w of a 7" tablet, bit veryvattractive case made of dutable brushed metal (only downside: it foes get pretty hot after a full charge of itself then a full discharge of all of its stored power onto a devive, all in less than 3 hrs!) but never too hot yo touch. It's a minor miracle in a tech world full of magic and it's less than $100 on Amazon!
Whew! Again, sorry for all the column inches of text here - hope OP and maybe others find some of it useful. Best, Jeff Bellin -
Thank you very much, I will give it a try.
As for the external battery, I don't really need it, the main thing is that I want to be psychologically secure and satisfied that I have a good battery life and not worry about it. -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
Now that I've had a chance to view your output from BIV I can assure you that there is something wrong with the program (something corrupted - uninstall/reinstall if you haven't already) or there is something weird in the circuitry of the x360 that is incompatible with this utility. Nirsoft makes some amazing utilities and it is not clear where they make their money - other than donations - so I doubt they have the resources to keep things well updated. I will say this is the first time I've heard of it malfunctioning, so I'm optimistic that it got corrupted and encourage a re-install if you haven't already done so.
BTW, I hear you about the external battery, and it may just not be for you, but even with a laptop that gets excellent battery run times as yours [should!] it is the equivalent for me of the old days of replaceable batteries such that, whenever my internal battery runs down to 15% or so - below which you will wear it out much more quickly - I just slap in a fully charged replacement and don't worry about when/if I will be in a position to plug it in, much less to wait a couple of hours to fully recharge it. It's also nice to tote around if you already have a bag with a 3.5 lb laptop, an AC brick, a tablet perhaps and a couple of accessories, you won't notice the weight or space usage of this battery and it will hold its charge indefinitely and, unlike most of the external batteries on the market, has 3 position voltage adjustments and multiple power plug tips and is pretty much the equivalent of carrying a generator to charge or just use every device in your bag. It's especially handy if you are toting a bag of gear around and just want to top off your laptop or other devices (you can do two simultaneously) by the next time you have to pull a device out of your bag you know it will be at 100%. Personally, that's a lot of convenience for $100 - though the way things are going the same battery will cost $50 by year's end and a sawbuck will get you one with twice the capacity and not much additional weight or girth. Again, maybe not your thing, but I have made a lot of people very happy turning them on to this gadget so pardon me if I take up your post to promo it. -
Turns out I wasn't satisfied with my trackpad. The rattle was gone, but the 3mm or so travel before making contact with the trackpad button was bothering me. I tap a lot, but for times when I do want to click, that travel just bugged me. So I set about to fix according to a comment/review I read on Engadget's review (sort comments by rating and it's on top). Took the bottom cover off again and this time I went deeper. Took the battery loose and figured out where the play was coming from. There is a few mm gap between the trackpad button and the point where it contacts the spring beneath it. The button is stuck under the bottom side of the trackpad (it travels with the trackpad when you press it down) and it contacts a portion of the metal spring just around the screws at the base of it. In this picture, the button is beneath the metal where the arrows are pointing.
That few mm gap made it so my trackpad was sunk well beneath the frame before the button made contact. Bugged me. So following what the Engadget commenter did, I put some shim between the button and the metal tab. Unsure what to use, I took some Scotch tape and layered it about 6 or 8 pieces thick. I stuck it in there so that the sticky side was toward the metal (as not to stick the button at all). Pressed the button a few times and felt much better about it. Now with it back together and zero travel between the trackpad and button click, it is great! I'm clicking that thing all over the place. It sounds stupid that a few mm of travel makes the click experience that much worse, but I went from never really using it to using it all the time.
If you want to try the same thing, you don't need to remove the battery completely if you don't want to. Only take the 4 screws loose and move it up a bit to expose the underside of the trackpad. Just mind the speaker wires on the sides.
Stupid that we should have to do such a thing, but if there is one area of HP's quality control that was not in control with this laptop, its the trackpad. Based on reviews and what I've seen in stores, a replacement laptop would be at least a 50% chance of the same or worse, so a few pieces of tape works for me. Plus I like to tinker and I obsess with little things like this. Anyway, thought I would share.Ice_Blade likes this. -
thank you very much for your posts. As for the battery: using the laptop while charging is good or not?

Ι have a wifi issue:
When I open the laptop from sleep mode my internet connection is limited and I can't open any pages. I have to disconnect and connect again a couple of times in order to fix this, which is pretty frustrating. -
Hey guys reporting my battery life on my i5. My first charge cycle lasted me 9 hours, but if I maxed it out up to 7%, it would be 9:45 according to battery bar. I also found this tool from intel that measures how much your laptop is drawing power.
https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-power-gadget-20 -
Go to device manager, WiFi card and on Properties, there's a tab at the end that says "allow machine to turn this device off" or so. Uncheck it and try again.
-
Can anyone with this laptop reply about its performance with the HP pens? Im looking at getting something with stylus support and this model seems to fit the bill the most but i will be in graduate school so with onenote it needs to keep up and not miss strokes
-
Don't get the HP pen. Get the Dell Pen instead.
-
Had this problem too and the HP Driver Update utility didn't find any updates. However, I went and downloaded the Intel drivers from their site directly and it seems to be stable:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...-Wireless-Software-and-Drivers-for-Windows-8-
I was also getting an event log error around the same time, so check to see if you get that too:

How's the battery life on your machine??
-
Received my replacement unit a few days ago. Trackpad is solid on this one, but the bad news is there's a bright pixel in the center of the screen which is annoying. Tried common methods of fixing but no luck. Looks like it's going back again..
-
Thank you. Do I have to install both of them? The first one for some reason cannot be installed, I press "run", a window pops up but then disappears!
As for the error you mention, I don't think I have it. -
I just got the i7 QHD model. As far as brightness, unless you are using the laptop in direct sunlight, in which no screen is any good, then the brightness is perfect!
Yes, I keep it pretty much at full brightness, but I am sitting in an outside screened in porch and it is completely 100% great to use. Also, super sharp! I also really haven't run into any scaling issues YET.
Can't judge battery yet, but haven't had any issues. I am not a road warrior so have to need for crazy battery life, but my initial impression at full normal use seems like around 7-8 hours, however unconfirmed.
I installed Windows 10 and is running really well. No issues yet with the OS.
My biggest complaint as most have mentioned is the trackpad. Sometimes the buttons don't register, especially the right click one, but even the left click unless I really give it a solid click. Hopefully will get used to it.
Another issue I had was using a 65" Vizio TV, when plugging in the HDMI all I got was a split screen with black on one side and scrambled picture on the other on the TV. Couldn't get it to work by changing multiple display setting. Unplugged and tried the same thing on a smaller Vizio TV and a Samsung TV via HDMI and both worked flawlessly without touching the settings. Not sure what was going on there...I updated the drivers to no avail.
Besides that, I love this thing. Fast, powerful, sleek, awesome. -
For the right click issue, have you messed around with the Synaptics settings in the control panel? Let's you set the size of the right click zone. By default, it was too small for my liking.
Or are you saying that the button doesn't click properly? -
The button clicks, just doesn't register perfectly. Which exact spot is the setting for this?
-
The battery life was a bit better with Windows 8.1 but till the release it should be better than with Windows 8.1.
The Drivers are not optimized for Windows 10 but the most of them are working nice.
Im using the Microsoft Designer Mouse, so no trackpad more
I tried the Logitech T630 with Bluetooth and the Microsoft Arc Toch Black.
But after a few Tests, the Designer Mouse was the best of them.
I didint like the touch scroll and touch click.
Does anyone know a Bluetooth mouse which Looks better with the spectre
?
The mouse is black and a silver one would look better -
I got my Spectre x360 about a week and a half ago and I really like it
I got the QHD version and have been very pleased, not finding the menus/type too hard to read at all and it's a beautiful display. Also, thank you to whomever posted that coupon because it saved me a few hundred dollars
Anyways, I am having trouble with touch and pen input and wonder if anyone else has had issues? Searching has really not turned anything up.
Sometimes the touch input seems to be registering as a pen (I see the little white dot like a pen) and nothing clicks properly. Then when touch is working, the pen doesn't seem to register. I had no problem with it, but now nothing I do will get the pen to register. I got the Dell pen on recommendation here and from Lisa's MobileTechReview video. Sometimes a stroke will register but nothing consistent. It doesn't register to try and calibrate. Not sure how to go about troubleshooting as this is my first device with pen input. My husband has a Surface but the pens don't cross so I can't use that to test pens/devices.
Anybody had these issues? Any ideas? -
hi everyone!
sharing my short experience with the QHD model:
- screen is adequately bright. Infact anything above 50% causes me eye strain
- fan kicks in whenever I am downloading stuff, esp via hp monitor and windows update
- however, asking cpu and hdd intensive tasks didn't turn on the fan at all
- I've had 3 instances of 5 hours runtime, brightness set to 50%, performance is medium
- I currently have the latest windows 10 build and I must say I still prefer windows 8.1. Both is are set to small text and 125% dpi: Big workflow baby!
- I cannot output to external monitors via hdmi vga adaptor
- my webcam is not working, and I can't find drivers
- laptop is very light, several people said as much too
- screen+ touchpad were not smooth which was disappointing. However after the updated this is not an issue anymore
- apart from the external monitor and webcam issues I'm very satisfied

Hey guys, I bought the Dell Stylus 750-AAGN (even though the box says REV A00 but was mfg in May 2015) and if I try to use it, I have to press REALLY really HARD. Is that normal?
-
That video is with the HP Active Stylus. I am using the Dell 750-AAGN one and I have to press REALLY hard for it to work. I don't know if it is this exact pen or it works like that, but the one in the video works better.
-
Oops. Didn't she say though that the Dell was better? I forgot.. I'm using the Dell pen and I'm not pushing enough pressure on it for it to register..
-
did you calibrate it or something? It doesn't work very well for me. If I press normal, I can only see the small dot but no writing (on OneNote app)
-
Nope it just works straight out of the box. Try installing the active pen software from HP.
http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers...0/model/7791780#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1
Oh and I mainly use the pen in Photoshop CC or Sketchbook Pro 7. I haven't tried OneNote. -
It is my pen apparently. I removed tip and put it back and it worked perfectly for like 20 secs.
-
Any good deals on the Spectre x360 QHD version in the USA? I want to buy when there is a nice offer!
-
FIREWORK30 gives you a 30% off. And FIREWORK20 a 20% off.
EDIT: it doesn't. My bad. They included the Spectre as "exclusion".Last edited: Jul 7, 2015 -
Just as an FYI, I believe it's in the Spectre x360 / Surface Pro smackdown video that she shows the Dell stylus
-
what store was that? -
Just going to ask one more time if anyone has had any issues with an intermittent touchscreen? What happens is I'll use the touchscreen, then suddenly a little white icon appears (like the pen indicator) and touch stops registering at that point.
I am asking in hopes that someone resolved it - the HP support tech seems to feel it is hardware and that I need to send in the machine for repair. I really do not want to send it in for repair. I don't want to be without it, and I am worried about getting a "repaired" machine back... that they will make things worse or not repair whatever really is the matter.
Any advice? -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
I take it you are past your return window? If so I would recommend uninstall and reinstall your pen and touch drivers, making sure you install the latest drivers from HP or Windows Update. It could be a hardware failure in the digitizer layer of your screen but I share your reluctance to send it into a service Depot - though HP has been getting pretty good marks for its repair service in recent years. They'll even take care not to mess up anything on your SSD though you certainly should backup before sending. Another thing you might consider : purchase an extended warranty from them that covers on-site service (so you not only don't lose use of it, you don't even lose *sight* of it! It usually doesn't cost too much (depending on whether you make it Next Business Day, add Accidental Damage from Handling - a good thing to have - and how many years you buy, etc,) and you can usually ureturn the wtty for a pro-rated refund - see below. Keep in mind two things :
1) You can buy HP warranty extensions (known as "Care Packs") from third parties (such as Costco, many others, just Google it) often for deep discounts.
2) All Care Packs are, AFAIK, fully transferable to third parties and, perhaps most importantly, are subject to pro - rated refunds if you wish to "return" the Care Pack. There's some kind of formula but it's fairly linear : if you've had a 3-yr wtty extra and want to return it after 1 year you get close to 2/3 your money back. If course read the fine print to make sure they haven't changed those policies or made them subject to "exceptions" (like, "refund does not apply to computers that have ever been turned on", etc
)
Sorry if this is way TMI than you were seeking - especially since it is light on the tech advice - but at) least it gives you options to pursue if all DIY advice fails you. Buying up enhanced wtty coverage can be a good idea anytime for many customers, especially if this will be your daily driver and you hope to use it for more than 2 years. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks Jeff! Actually I'm not sure I'm out of the return window - I just got the machine... 2 weeks ago from tomorrow is when it was delivered. Do you think it would be better to return? I got a massive discount on this one using the coupon code someone posted several pages ago so not sure I could get that one.
I don't think we've tried uninstalling/reinstalling touch/pen drivers so I may do that in a bit when I have the time to do so. I'll look into the on-site service warranties too. That would be really nice. -

Have the QHD i7 w/ 8gb ram.
CPU when not doing much is hitting 60deg C. Is that normal?? -
Soon to be owner here, but I have a couple questions:
1. Has anyone figured out a way to turn off the light of the keyboard backlight indicator key? Either via software or hardware (with a visual guide)? I feel like this will severely annoy me as I use my computer a lot at night in dark rooms.
2. How long does it take to charge the laptop from 0% to full? Coming from an X1 Carbon, I really like the rapid charge feature. -
1. If you update the BIOS using the latest version on the HP Driver site, you can boot into the BIOS (hold F10 at startup) and disable the light. I did this and it worked perfectly. You can still activate and deactivate the backlight as normal, just don't have to look at the ridiculous light on the F5 key at all times.
2. Not sure, not something I worry about but seems relatively normal.Xero likes this. -
1. Oh, I didn't know that there was a BIOS update that lets you disable the light. That's good to know.
2. So I guess that means there isn't any quick(er) charging., oh well.
Thanks for your reply. -
2. Mine takes about 2 hours more or less but not from 0%, more like 20ish % to 100%.Xero likes this.

You are definitely inside your window and you are definitely entitled to get a replacement machine at the original discount. I recommend you call them and make that request in a soft spoken manner and if they refuse you ask to escalate to the next level of management. The worst that happens is they insist that you give them a crack at fixing it (though I think you can avoid that) but if so remind them that you're worried about both the return window and maintaining your discount. Historically HP has been quite lenient about these things. If you get no cooperation from any level just say thank you, hang up and call again, preferably 8hrs later.
Good luck. Jeff

I think it is bright enough for the QHD version if you turn it up to 100%. Does anybody have any experience how long you can run the QHD version on 100% brightness?
