@thefiverivers : Yes, it was a typo, I meant the 7500U
It's amazing how mine had the earliest ship date - 3/3 and will arrive - I hope - the latest of the three of us, scheduled for 3/13. It's been so long since I ordered an HP that I forgot the $40 express ship is well worth the price! Think I'll call tonight and see if they can change the shipping method - probably too late. Oh well, please do check in with first impressions!thefiverivers likes this. -
Damn.... the x360 I ordered, then immediately canceled, and HP assured me that the shipment would be diverted back to their warehouse ( I would never see it).....appears to be on the truck for delivery to me today.
The second laptop I ordered an hour later to replace the first one, ( I wanted ash silver) was mirroring the canceled order in its delivery progress until this morning...when it seemed to get hung up in Alaska.
I leave town for the week Monday...so it looks like I may not get the x360 I wanted until a week from now. -
Just as I thought.... my order got held up in Alaska. FedEx says Monday.... I am trying to force a Saturday deliver if gets to Seattle tonight.

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
I've decided not to keep the model I ordered with delivery estimated as March 8-13. I've spoken to several people at HP and none has any information whatsoever about the 4k screen's disappearance and many say that, as often as not, when they take it off the CTO ordering screen as an option it is a feature that isn't expected to return. After all, they could always keep the option and indicate a much later estimated ship date if it was only a matter of getting more 4k screen inventory, but by removing it as an option apparently most HP staff believes it is not highly likely to return. As I mentioned a couple of threads earlier, I've had this kind of experience with HP consumer models in the past. The problem this creates is that if they don't restock the 4k screen to resume selling it, how many will they have in stock for replacement of those already sold in case they bite the dust prematurely?!!
Thus I've pretty much decided not to keep the unit I ordered and, depending upon where things stand at hp.com when it arrives, I will either return it and order the same specs but switch to the FHD display (again, the only display you can order it with for the past two weeks). The only reason I mention it is that in case someone reading this thread really wants a 4k screen and doesn't want to purchase from Best Buy I would be happy to sell mine in a sealed never-opened box for close what I paid for it (including sales tax), which is a great deal because I was able to use a 25% discount code a checkout. The specs are: i7/16GB/512GB/4k/W10 Pro/Ash Silver. Price around $1,500 plus shipping. If interested, please PM me. Please don't discuss this further on the thread, as I am not supposed to advertise a product for sale in the product forums, but rather in the Marketplace section. I just want to make this extremely simple to execute or I will just send it back. As it is I may get a nastygram from a Mod for making this offer here. Now, before I tread in any deeper into this - I have sold some dozen notebooks on this forum over the past 8 years - please do PM me if you are interested. If I get more than one inquiry, I'll offer it to people on a first-come/first-served system. If nobody's interested I will simply send it back to HP.
Thanks and best of luck! -
I'm sure it'll be back in stock. I honestly wouldn't worry about it because the Best Buy models are also scheduled to be in stock this week. I suspect they had an influx of orders and maybe stopped it as an option due to inventory issues. They advertised the 4K screen heavily at Ces as well.
My hope is they are getting ready to launch iris plus graphics and that has something to do with the 4K option missing for the time being.
Edit: so just spoke to hp about 4k option and they said it's still an option for the new 13 inch but it currently unavailable because they are updating the product page. I also asked about iris plus graphics and they said it will be available but had no time frame for it. Take it for what it's worth.

And now I'm confident the 4K option will be back. New info pages talking about 4K in numerous sections.

Dell XPS 15 9560 vs. 2017 HP Spectre x360 15" Comparison Smackdown
-
Quick question..... I got my computer today. I opened it up and the first thing I noticed were some 2"-3" marks and one small scrape on the cover. I thought the marks at least would buff out...they do not. It feels like I got a " used" computer lid. Call and complain?

Or, you could keep it... if the rest of it runs fine for you, it's up to you -
My order has been delayed until 4/30 due to the 4K screen being short in supply. Seems like all 4K ctos from hp have been delayed, hence why the option was removed from the configurator.

Playing with my new laptop this morning.
In the upper left corner of the keyboard there is a small key with a "?" on it. When I press it it opens in chrome ( my default browser) a home page for BING set at windows 10 help. Is there a way to change that page. I hate BING. -
I couldn't find this question/answer anywhere else by searching, but has anyone hooked up 3 external monitors with the Spectre?
A couple guys at work have gotten the Surface Book and Dell XPS 13 to work with 3 external monitors, with different external docks, I was hoping the Spectre could do the same. -

I'm using the TB16 with the 13" version... no issues at all with either of the two external screens. It keeps the 13" charged, I'm not sure exactly what the output is/not sure how to measure it, as the battery apps I've used are unable to display this information on this particular machine, but no problems in my first 5 weeks of use. The TB16 is no slouch, it is a pretty large box with built-in fans, and comes with a pretty massive power brick as well. I'm very happy with it so far.

Has anyone noticed the long palm rejection delay of the touchscreen after using the pen? For me it takes about 2 seconds of withdrawing the pen for the computer to respond to touchscreen input. It is super annoying while taking notes since I have to switch quickly between writing and scrolling the page. I'm hoping this is a defect or a software issue but the HP site says this:
"If your system supports palm rejection technology, when the active stylus is in use, the touch screen does not respond to input from your hand. Wait approximately 1.5 seconds between using the stylus and using your finger."
If I can't fix this I will seriously consider returning the laptop. It would be a damn shame because I'm a big fan otherwise! I have the 13' ac050ca model. -
Well my Spectre x360 13t finally shipped. 4K/I7/16gb/256gb in dark ash. Ordered it back in February and was supposed to receive it on March 10 but then received a shipping delay due to parts not available. New estimated delivery was May 2 but thankfully didn't have to wait that long. It will arrive on Tuesday.
Received a bunch of refunds too for my trouble so overall a great deal for me. I'm also planning on swapping out the ssd for a 960 pro. Looking forward to using it (finally).

I have the latest 13" Spectre x360 in Ash Silver FHD i7/16gb/512gb and I can't help but be bothered by the screen door effect of the LCD. Is anyone else noticing this? My old Samsung ATIV Book 7 screen is 13" 1080p and I can't really even discern individual pixels.
I hate to return the laptop because I got a really good deal on it but I think I may have to. -
My Spectre is finally here! What a fantastic laptop. Great build quality, 4K screen is crisp and clear, keyboard is great, touchpad is not loose, Synaptics sucks but changed some settings and all is good now, and I got a pm961 as well. Going to clean install w10 and that should make things run better as well.
Battery life still remains to be determined as I havnt pushed it much but I expect 6-7 hours with my usage. Hope I can get more! I got a great deal on the laptop and I couldn't be happier.
If anyone wants to see pics or has questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I have a new HP Spectre x360 and I noticed that it overheated and rebooted on its own a few times when I was not using it. I left task manager open to see what was causing it to work so hard while it was idle and found that Windows Defender kicks in after my computer is idle for about 5 minutes and causes my fans to go to high speed and eventually overheats my computer and causes it to reboot. I took a screenshot of my task manager: http://imgur.com/a/xTZRs
Is this normal? Any recommendations?
EDIT: 4/10
Tonight I took a screenshot of my CPU and motherboard temps 1 minute after letting my computer sit idle (10:01pm) and then 5 minutes later, the Antimalware service executable kicks in, and I took the 2nd screenshot at (10:07pm). The temps rose to 89 degrees for the CPU and 82 for the motherboard. I'm not too knowledgeable regarding proper temps, but this certainly seems high correct? Especially for being idle.

That's bizarre mate. Mine hit as high as 98 degrees without locking up.
By chance are you putting the laptop on a bed or a blanket or something like that?
What I've found is that if the bottom vent holes are blocked then the motherboard tends to overheat. It's not a problem on a table because the small feet give plenty of clearance but when I'm in bed I have to be mindful not to cover all the vent holes. -
-
If it does, send it to repair.
Are your fans loud at that point?
Obviously it is not idle is defender is taking up cpu and scanning drive for viruses. -
Hello, I posted this in another thread but not sure if it's being monitored.
I've run into a problem with a '17 Spectre 15 and I'm wondering if anyone else is having the problem. When I connect via miracast(screen share) my internet speed drops from 150Mbs steady to barely 5Mbs. I know it's not the network or TV because my XPS18 with an older intel wifi card and my Note5 both connect and retain the 150Mbs. -
I'd say that you have a background process which is killing your pc - could even be that your computer is being zombied as part of a botnet. Restart your computer from cold, let your computer get warm for a second and try this:
- Start Task Manager
- Details Tab
- Right click on a column -> Select Columns
- Tick CPU Time
- Sort by that column and see what is eating your CPU
You need to find someone around who is technical to explain 2.4GHz vs 5GHz wifi to you (or to try reconfiguring your router/ computer). There should be a setting to change which channel it runs on and it is recommended to space these well apart.AndreaM likes this. -
I'm thinking it may be an issue with the WiDi channel that's being used, but i don't know of any way to change what WiDi channel is used.
Are you able to maintain top speed while on screen share? -
-
Well, looks like the problem is with Windows 10 Creators Update. I factory reset my Spectre and had max 150Mbs up and 150Mbs down on a Miracast connection. After updating to WCU via the upgrade assistant, the problem came back - <5Mbs down / 150Mbs up.
@illuzn, are you running Windows Creators Update? -
Yes I am.
Check the drivers that you are running on your computer. I found that some of my drivers rolled back to older versions. -
Hey, I'm not sure if this has been solved/ been a problem for anyone else so sorry if it's been covered. I have the late 2016/2017 13' Intel i7 model, and I often use it with the active pen to takes notes on one note. Sporadically the pen will refuse to work when my palm is on the screen and it won't write anything or it only will if the pen starts writing and then the palm is placed on the screen. However, if I do the latter, each time i want to perform a new stroke i have to repeat the process of removing my palm. If anyone can help then I'd be so grateful.
Cheers! -
Have you tried the update to the screen firmware? That has made a lot of my intermittent issues disappear.
-
I might have... I've been with a macbook for basically my entire life so Windows is still a bit new to me! Everything I've checked says I'm up to date though. Could you possibly point me in the right direction?
-
Here's the link to the one for my laptop: https://support.hp.com/au-en/driver...100-x360-convertible-pc/8499273/model/8959605
It's under firmware... FYI, you need to select your own model of laptop (put in the serial number in the search function). -
Hey, cheers for all your help so far! I haven't done anything yet, mainly because I've identified what causes the problem... The horrid palm and pen rejection only occur when the laptop is being charged... As soon as I take it off charge it's fine! Hopefully this should help narrow down the problem.
-
I can honestly say that I don't think I have that problem. When you brush your hand on the aluminium case of the laptop do you feel this "electricity" feeling. I had that on another laptop of mine which interfered with the touch screen and apparently it was because the charger was poorly designed and missing the "ground" prong.
-
No I don't, which is lucky I suppose in a way.. I'll contact HP I guess - cheers for all your help!

@ illuzn
If you don't mind me asking, what speeds are you getting when connected to a TV with Miracast on Creators Update? I use fast.com and bing's speed test for my testing. (hate using flash)Last edited: Apr 23, 2017 -
Ok, WiFi on Miracast with WCU problem solved.
Apparently updating to WCU changes "Receive Segment Coalescing State" from disabled to enabled. I'm not sure why, but I ran 'netsh int tcp set global rsc=disabled', verified it took, and now I get full 150/150 with Miracast on WCU. -

I placed a custom order for a Spectre X360 15" and I'm awaiting delivery next week. In the meantime, I am looking for a spare AC Adapter and a robust disk imaging and backup software.
For the backup and disc imaging software I'm thinking about going with Macrium Reflect 7 ( https://www.macrium.com/). Anything else I should consider? When I receive the laptop I plan to backup the factory image and then install a fresh clean copy of Windows 10 with just the drivers I need.
What do you recommend for a spare power adapter for the 2017 15" Spectre X360? Will any USB-C laptop charger work? What is the power rating for this laptop? is it 45W or 60W? Would a 60W USB C charger work? Will any of the following 3 options work to power and charge the laptop?

any way to get the synaptics to feel a bit more like microsoft precision touchpad on my xps13? there's always that bit of lag to the synaptics.

Is the ram user upgradeable on the Spectre x360 15"? As in, if I buy the 8 gig version can I upgrade it to 16 gigs later.
According to the HP manual for the 2017 models, while it says the ram isn't user-upgradeable, the ram isn't soldered like previous years. Any reason as to why I wouldn't be able to add in another 8 gig stick of ram, assuming it is the same specs (SODIMM, DDR4 2133...etc)?
Link to the HP service manual:

If there are RAM slots the ram is upgradeable.

For anybody interested...
I've upgraded the bios of my Spectre x360 (2015 model) version F.45
If I'm not wrong the function of showing remaining time on battery was missing from bios.
In the latest version it's there. You have the option to enable or disable showing the remaining time, allowing bios to communicate with the OS.
But on Windows it's still doesn't show anything if you click with left button on the battery icon.
Anyway, if you hover on the battery icon the OS clearly shows how much time is remaining on battery.
IMHO the original OS shipped with the computer has the function disabled on the battery box at OS level.
It's working because if you hover on the battery icon there's an estimate.
I suppose installing a clean version of Windows 10 from Microsoft website can solve this problem.
I've ordered an SSD upgrade for my Spectre (Intel 600P 1TB NVMe m.2), I'll install a clean version of Windows 10 downloading it from the website, so I will try this for sure and making and doubt going away about battery estimate.
