Gonna install steam and play some TF2, and see how well that plays -
Cool. Just got mine delivered, SP9300 / G105. Powering it up right now. Anybody else think the touchpad buttons are stiff? Compared to a few other laptops, these both seem to require a lot of pressure to respond.
Anybody else think this?
Touchpad does seem to have a bit of friction, but so far this isn't a big deal...The stiff buttons are annoying me more.. -
guys with switchable graphics, can i switch it whenever i want or does it only switch when i plug or unplug.
and should i get wireless N? i will be using wifi alot in coffee shops, library and stuff. -

Looks like my local bestbuy finally has the dm3z in stock. Going to finally get a chance to check out the touchpad to see if I should pickup the dm3t online with my APP discount -
You can switch the graphics at any time by accessing the ATI control panel.

can someone please tell me about the heat and noise.....I'm very sensitive to noise..... hopefully if you know the neo x2 + hd 3200 combo...much much appreciated.

Can you run some Windows Experience Index Scores for us and post them? -
Here you go. Windows Experience Index: SP9300 w G105, 4G mem, 320HD 7200rpm.
Processor 5.9
Memory 5.9
Graphics 4.7
Gaming Graphics 5.6
Primary Hard Disk 5.9 -
Here's the Windows Experience Index for my su7300 with the 105. 500GB HD 7200rpm.
Processor : 4.1
Memory 4.8
Graphics 4.7
Gaming Graphics 5.5 (was 5.6 initially. I then re-ran the test and it dropped.)
Primary Hard Disk5.9
What I don't understand is I've seen a lot of people with 4 gigs of Ram, with a much higher memory score than myself. I have no clue why my memory score is so low. -
-
Looks like a 2 hour movie is out of question for netflix.
Mabye some 720p files using the gpu would get better life -

I really really REALLY hate bestbuy. They wont put out their dm3z because apparently when it is on constantly for 3-4 days the hard drive ruins itself.
Guess I wont be able to see one in person -
Also for those that care about the left palm rest, I've had my laptop plugged in for a few hours now, it's slightly warm, I mean SLIGHTLY, nothing compared to my hdx18 which gets warm. I barely notice it being warm at all to be honest with everyone. Also it could even be heat from my hand that is resting on it, causing it to feel warm. Also the fan is super quiet. I barely notice it.
The one thing I have noticed, is on occasion, depending on what I am doing, there is some slight lag. For instance if I open up something in windows, it could take a second or two, which never happens on my hdx18. -
Dgoth:
Man, pleaseeeeee post temps and battery times!!! -
Sure thing, but battery is still charging, and since I'm at work, I don't really have much time to run a real test. Quickly though, I ran hw monitor, and here's the results:
ACPI: 41C
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo
Core#0: 31C
Core#1: 31C
Geforce G105
GPU core: 44C
WDC WD3200
HDD: 35C
But keep in mind, I havn't been pushing it at all. Just ran a couple of youtube videos, and loaded some SW etc. Tonight or tomorrow I'll load Solidworks (3d cad package) which should push everything nicely.
General impression...yep it's a pretty laptop, love the form factor, and really light, but really unhappy about those dang stiff trackpad buttons. Might be a showstopper for me as those are pretty critical for my design work. Interestingly, I'm not so upset about the trackpad friction, which was something I had expected.
Also noticed the battery is a tad loose, but probably not a big deal. -
Has anyone tried connecting the dm3 to a "big" external LCD monitor, like 22 or 24 inch using HDMI? I'd like to use a bigger monitor and usb keyboard/mouse as a simple docking station when I'm at home.
Would that work? I mainly want the bigger screen when editing photos etc. -
through hdmi it works great on my 42 inch 1080p vizio from 2 years ago. So it shouldnt be a problem
-
I am extremely interested in the battery life of the SU7300 + G105 while gaming... If anyone would be so kind... Even testing to 50% battery life is good enough for me. But it has to be tested under load (play any 3D based game for 1-2 hours should do it).
-
It's sad, but I would pay HP $50 not to install all this extra crap they do to drop the price of the laptop, especially Norton. It's maddening!
As for the touchpad, I take back my previous comment. It's not as great as some other trackpads, but it'll do. I recommend increasing the movement speed of the trackpad. It makes using it MUCH more bearable.
Oh, and there are a lot of updates to install! -
I got my dm3t w/ SU7300 & 4500MHD w/ 4GB DDR3. Formatted and Installed with Win7 Pro 64-bit as soon as I got it.
Been running it off and on all day, via sleep, and it's had no problems what-so-ever. I'm at work right now and have 54% battery remaining. Pretty awesome.
It came in at 9:30am here from fedex.
I've already tested x264 files in windows media player and youtube HD and hulu HD. They all play perfectly fine.
Temps:
Core1: 29C
Core2: 29C
HDD: 30C
Everything's extremely snappy for such a low powered machine. I'm thoroughly impressed.
Touchpads a bit less than I would have liked, but it's no big deal. The buttons are pretty hard to press, though. Perhaps they'll loosen up. If anyone else gets this laptop and can't stand the touchpad, take your time adjusting the settings in the control panel. I've gotten it so it's pretty solid now.
The frame stays very cool, and the machine is sexy as hell. I highly recommend this computer.
Let me know if there are any benchmarks you'd like me to run and I'll take a stab at it. -
Dgoth:
Wow those temps are crazy low! How long would you say it was on for though?
Thanks so much man! Anymore temp readings and battery figures would be very very very appreciated!!!

Retro:
I can't make up my mind between the SP9300/SU7300... would you say it's multitasking ability is? I like to have itunes/skype/firefox/msn/wmp and such running at the same time going through them all the time... does it seem able to handle such a load? -
Received mine today as well.
dm3z L625 / ATI 4330, 4GB RAM, 250GB 5400RPM HD, with Wireless G only.
Any guidelines on how to test:
1) battery life
2) CPU
3) GPU
Having things standardized is important, so let me know the rules before I run the tests. I'm going to do a clean install of Windows Home Premium FIRST so perhaps this will affect performance. I think yes, but maybe no. -
Now after streaming a hulu movie for the last hour, things have heated up a bit more.
ACPI: 60C
Core#0: 53C
Core#1: 51C
GPU: 55C
HDD: 37C
Really too early to give a good battery reading, but if you want something VERY roughafter 45 minutes of streaming hulu, fullscreen, using Wireless, standard powersave settings (50% brightness, etc.), I was down to 78%. So take that for what it's worth. Again, very rough...
Might be able to more accurate numbers tomorrow. -
Anyone know how to do a fresh install of Windows using the HP key on the bottom? HP has taken a wonderful OS and mangled with with a bunch of crap! I know because I've used Windows 7 on my desktop PC and it runs beautifully (it's also an HP).
And man, I am LOVING this keyboard. It's a lot better than what my 2006 MacBook Pro had (old school keyboard). Chicklet is IN! -

Ok finally got to see he dm3t in person and play around with it for a while. Mini review time:
Build quality is fairly decent. There are some areas I could see done better, like the chrome ring around the perimeter of the notebook. On the display model, it had gotten scratched and was peeling its paint off the black plastic underneath it. Another area of concern was the power plug on the display model was also bent from being tugged firmly behind it. For the average user I dont think those should be problems, but are worth mentioning. The aluminum skin felt pretty good, gave it a stronger feel to it than plastic cladding. I liked it
Keyboard and Touchpad:
The keyboard was very nice, one of the better ones I have used when you compare it to other "netbooks" and similar sized CULv notebooks. Its feel was very similar to the Chiclet style macbooks, but with a lighter feel to the buttons when pressed. Keyboard rigidity was ok, but there were some areas that flex under decent pressure. The area around the QWERTY section flex a bit, but under normal typing pressure you couldnt see the area move. Compared to the AS1410/AS1810 it is much much nicer.
I think a lot of the reviewers who commented negatively on the touchpad didnt really know what they were talking about. I was very afraid of purchasing the dm3t after reading the negative comments by Gizmodo and Laptop. I have no idea what they were smoking once I got to play with it in person. The texture is identical to every other HP glossy touchpad. Brand new it will feel weird, used for a few hours once oils build up on it it feels perfect. If you are having problems, first make sure your fingers are dry, then if you have trouble sliding around quickly wipe your forehead or the side of your nose. Yes icky... but whatever.. put some oil on the surface and it will feel so much nicer. Movement was flawless, no lag, no speed issues, no unequal axis circles. I would easily rate it one of the nicer touchpads I have used, which is saying a lot if you know the type of person that I am. I will tear any junk touchpad a new one if I see it has problems
Another tip to decrease friction on the touchpad surface is taking some standard silicone/carnauba based automotive wax, dabbing some on the surface, and then polishing it off. That will make it slicker than snot for a long time.
In short, if you are up on the wall cross shopping between the dm3 and the as1410/as1810... this is a nicer build for money.
I am going to be watching the deals like a hawk in the upcoming days/weeks and probably pick one of these up. Unfortunately we still dont have a review unit in the office, but once we do (either HP supplied or one that I buy) expect a full in-depth review on this thing. -
Anyone who could tell me how the AMD L335 with the ATI 3200 hd stands up to the intel versions with G105 when streaming HD video from hulu, youtube etc?
Here in sweden the only AMD version avalible is the AMD L335 with the ATI 3200 hd for about 1000$ (about 700 euros) due to low exchangerates. The question is if it's worth the extra like 280 $ (about 200 euros) to get the intel su4100 with G105.. Or worth waiting for the cheaper AMD L625 with ATI 4330 HD?
Really sucks that you can't configure your laptop and buy directly from Hp here... =( Think im gonna lose it soon if I can't don't up my mind! -

I did a clean install on mine, and was wondering if there's anything I need to install to get the LED for the mute button to work. I installed the software for the Quick Launch buttons and the mute button does mute the sound, but the LED doesn't come on like it normally should.
EDIT: Figured out that function requires the IDT audio drivers from HP. -
I just got my dm3t this morning (Intel SU7300 + Nvidia G105M), and I'm having a pretty bad experience trying to play Team Fortress 2 on it. My fps is going below 25 too often for the game to be playable. It seems to be cpu limited because I've turned everything down to low and it doesn't help. My cpu usage is also showing up as 100% in the task manager. I don't think a 1.3 ghz core 2 duo should bottleneck such an old game especially with multi-core rendering enabled.
Does anyone have any thoughts? -
afaik you should be able to run it fine. Possible it is a weird windows 7 or driver issue... I think I ran it on my old dv2 fairly well on medium settings, I think somethings off. Anyone else tested? I have the same setup, I will try getting tf2 installed when I get home -
EDIT: I didn't read your edit...i'm sorry to hear you've figured out how to make it work -
i just got home and my touchpad doesn't work anymore... i uninstalled some things, wonder what i did :/

Anybody know how to turn off those ugly icons when you do the multi-touch on the touchpad?
-
ya it shows no other mouse in the device manager to <_< hmm maybe its because i got rid of the quicklaunch buttons thing, going to try and reinstall that.... -
my sp9300/g105m is in Alaska! few more days...

Just ran a WEI test on my L625/4330 with 3gb ram and 250gb 5400rpm HDD:
Processor: 4.2
Memory (RAM): 4.9
Graphics: 4.5
Gaming graphics: 5.9
Primary Hard Disk: 5.5
Not too shabby for $650
I'll get some battery figures/3dmark06/pcmark06/game fps's up later. -
I got my DM3 today (finally!).
However, after about 10 minutes of using it, I have to ask:
Is anyone else as frustrated with the screen as I am?
Seeing the grid lines on the screen is very bothersome to me.. Next to my "old" XPS 15, the older display looks 10 times better. It's hard to describe - the DM3 screen looks like it has fine grid lines. It's like the distance between the pixels is large enough to actually be visually bothersome. It also seems to have a blueish tint.
Any other takers on the screen quality? -
just played batman arkham asylum and on low settings got 30-40 fps, VERY pleased. Could probly notch it up some too -
I ran WEI with my SU7300/GMA4500HD with 4gb ddr3 ram and 320gb 7200rpm hdd.
Processor: 4.1
Memory (RAM): 4.9
Graphics: 3.9
Gaming graphics: 3.4
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9
I'll post WEI with clean installation sometime tomorrow. -

Dang, I feel like it was a mistake just getting the hd3200 only ver
