Remember this is beta. Performance should improve as they go foward. Also ati was late to the game for this. Nvidia started on their drivers first.
My laptop is charging (fell asleep next to it while it was on watching south park) so when its done i will test with the 3200 and 4330 and see the diffrences. I think this may be another point in time when running the 4330 will give you large battery life increases
-
no stutter(ing) on hulu 480 but i still did notice a slight stutter every once and a while i still wouldn't say flawless i have updated the driver and to flash 10.1 beta
anyone else notice this as well? -
http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/16480/1/
But I guess the generic improvements and support still make a difference. I wonder how much difference in cpu usage the 4330 makes. -
-
Terrible Lie:
How did you install the generic ATI Catalyst driver v. 9.11? I'm using Win 7 (64bit) on my dm3-1030us. Did you get the driver fromm http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=win7/windows-7-64bit? When I tried to install the driver, either by itself or part of the ATI Catalyst 9.11 Suite, I get the error message: "The applicaton has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect . . . ." Did you have to do some form of modification? I've read that some manufactures configure their machines so that reference drivers cannot be installed. TIA. Egan. -
ya i did install and update the driver i did notice a huge difference but as some have said flawless my experience with hulu still isn't "flawless"

Strange passmark gives the L335 a higher score than the L625 , just shows how inaccurate it is.

Does anybody know what the mainboard chipset is on the DM3z
CPU-Z will show it on the mainboard tab, under chipset.
I just want to know if the platform is Puma or Yukon
Thanks. -
chipset is 780g
southbridge is sb750 -
After spending a few days reading every page here, I still have a few questions. Of the 3 laptops I have actually played with at Fryes and BB, all three had a slight vibration to them, which I'm guessing was the HD. Do they all do this? Also, all 3 had the AMD L335 cpu, and the left palm rest and left bottom were fairly warm with the laptops just idling, though who knows how long they had been on. So, I'm worried that these might get too hot in the palm rest area and to use on my lap when I'm actually using the laptop. Will the high-end Intel cpu be any cooler than the AMD L335 or L625? TIA.
-
The vibaration is the 7200rpm hardrive. If oyu don't like it buy a 5400rpm drive or an ssd (ssd being perfered as it offers man improvements)
I don't think you want to use the amd one in your lap. It covers up key vents under the laptop that way. -
does anyone have the SSD upgrade for the intel? can you give us some feedback about performance and battery life?
-
i just bought the dm3t with the ULV cpu 4gb of RAM the 105 gpu and the 128gb SSD.
it will not be built until the 25th
I will definately post some benchmarks when i get it.
I was able to get it with the SSD for $1000 there was a $200 off coupon stacked with the $150 instant off.
I was tempted by the MBP but the SSD would have make the MBP around $1800 almost 2x the cost -
The ssd option for such a low cost must be because intel is discounting it to those who go the culv route
-.-
not fair, but then no one said anything in life would be. Isn't this the sort of thing they are getting sued over? -
-
Have anyone try the new bios?
-
EDIT
Its intel only -
I'm a fan of the dm3z too.
I was just correcting your mis-statements regarding the UL30VT. That's all.
The dm3z is a great buy. I highly recommend it at its price point.I know you love the dm3z, and there are good reasons for liking it.
Kudios to anyone that buys the dm3z...
-
Like I said they are advertising battery life they would do it with the longest battery life components which is the celeron option and intel igp.
I get tired of people coming in and sayin hey look this laptop costs alot more but its better you should all buy it. -
Pasta4u have you posted a review of the dm3z? (sorry, I had read like the first 50 pages of this thread, but not the last 50... you may have posted a link in those pages if you did write one...) -
Just a heads up .
Downloaded the torchwood demo from steam. It plays on the hd 3200 maxed out at 30-40fps . I can play it on the 4330 with fsaa on (don't know how many samples as it doesn't say) and shadows on medium at 40-60 fps depending on whast up. Its certianly cpu bound in this mode.
Does anyone want other demos tested? -

Has anybody tried the AMD overdrive with the DM3z , the southbridge sb750 is supposed to designed to work with overdrive to boost cpu,gpu and memory.

So you have tried it and it does not work?
-
Alot of them can't even see the motherboard or ram. So I'm not sure if its a bios thing or a new revision none of them are updated to. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Maybe we need to mobility mod a desktop driver and see if that is overclockable.
What version driver are you using now?
EDIT : I should get my DM3z Friday or Saturday -
However, I checked out an Office Depot model and several other DM3 from other BBs and there was no vibration. I purchased mine from Office Depot and there are no vibrations.
I'll be honest, this thing can get really hot, especially if you're streaming HD videos. Under lighter tasks, it's warm but manageable. Not sure about the Intel models, but the last 3 laptops I've had had Intel chips (T5750, T6400, P7450) and I can leave them on my bed and the thing will barely be warm. I don't think you'll have any heat issues with the Intel chips on the DM3, but don't take my word for it. -

I've been following the posts here since the beginning and thanks to everyone for all of the shared info. I purchased a custom dm3t from HP and received it on Nov. 9. I received 15% back from Bing Cashback (I missed the 25% back that some of the earlier purchasers mentioned) and I also received the EPP discount through my employer (around 8% off). So my cost was basically $550 for the computer and I paid another $50 for the external drive. By the way, as some others mentioned, I had to send supporting info to Bing to qualify for my cashback, but that was pretty easy.
My specs are:
HP Pavilion dm3t customizable Notebook PC
* Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
* Intel(R) Pentium(R) Processor SU4100 (1.3GHz,2M Cache) w/Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
* 4GB DDR3 System Memory
* 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* Wireless-N Card
* 6 Cell Polymer Battery
* External LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
I received it just in time for a business trip I was taking, so my first usage was on the road. Here's my two cents:
The positives: the build quality is excellent, very solid, good aesthetics, excellent keyboard, sounds great, LED screen is vibrant, snappy performance for the size and weight.
The negatives: mouse buttons are stiff, and the touchpad takes a little getting used to. As others mentioned it can be a little sticky and the tap conventions must be learned, but I'm totally accustomed to it now... The mouse did freeze on me once after coming from sleep mode, but hasn't happened since.
General comments: As for the heat and noise that some others mentioned, I haven't noticed it at all. So much cooler and quieter than other laptops I've had. Video streams well, but I'm not a heavy user of that nor am I a serious gamer. For those that travel, it's great to have a computer this light and small - very easy to pop out of the bag at the security gates in airports.
Conclusion: Good bang for the buck! -

jpark93 any change of you posting a pic of the external dvd-rw as we have no pictures.
Also does the external dvd-rw need 2 usb ports or just 1 to burn.
+REP if you do. -
I've been too busy lately to post, but has anyone recommended a good case for this lappy, or should I just order the standard HP one?

anyone can answer my question about why hulu 480 is still not "flawless" for me? maybe i'm too pick but it's still not smooth
i've upgraded everything!
and anyone know if hp has updated the mouse driver? so it doesn't freeze when it wakes up? -
So i'm running 9.11 on the 3200 and 9.10 on the 4330 -
Also remember flash is in beta so we will see performance improvements in the future for it. Its the first release of the software and it was 2 days ago. -
It looks the same as the blu-ray drive pictured in this post:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5528429&postcount=963
It uses 1 usb port to burn. -
Here is a pretty good review of the HP dm3z (AMD Turion L625 + HD 4330): http://www.expertlaptopreview.com/?p=249
-
Just a heads up. If you want to increase battery life while playing videos from hardrive. I sugest you put those files on an sd card and keep it in the slot. It uses many times less power than the hardrive

Fixes an intermittent issue where the Computrace Agent cannot be activated or de-activated on Microsoft Windows 7 systems.

Anyway, it's solid, sleek and as the other poster mentioned, only requires one usb connection. -

I just got my DM3z about 2 hours ago and it came with the external DVD-RW , thanks for the help +REP anyway.
Do you know the DVD-RW can pull up to 2 amps from the usb port, that is a lot. -
That's interesting. I haven't had to use mine yet, but it looks good. So did your system just come with it or did you have pay more for it? Some of the initial reviews I read said that it might be included in some packages overseas... I'm in the US by the way.
