really, nobody in the last 11 pages answered that question.
i'm very eager to hear the some thoughts on this too!

I got a question about the hp dm3 .
Here in Holland we have only the hp Dm3 with the su4100 & su2300 with igp from intel .
So i found this one in Ger
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463375173&pf_rd_i=301128
Very nice = amd x2 + 4300 = perfect for me .
But do i need to stick with the German version of windows 7 , ore can i choose the dutch language ? -
I thought u took the casing off and found it under the hard drive area. That would have been awsome.
The 4330 should be sitting in a pci-e slot so in the future it should be possible to put a faster gpu in there . I haven't seen anyone take the machine apart yet though -
To install language packs simply go to the control panel then go to clock language and region then click insteal or uninstall display languages.
Then follow the directions . Select dutch and let it download and install and it should switch for you. If not go back to the placei n control panel and selett change display language again. -

The HD4330 is integrated into the motherboard with dedicated memory , you might have an empty mini-pci-e slot the wifi is supposed to be there but on mine at least it is not , the wifi is a half size card i showed in the right side slot.
It depends what wifi card they used, do you have the model number?
The Wifi card is in the Pic below. -
It doesn't make sense that it would be in the mobo as its only an option . Which would mean they would need to keep extra motherboards in stock with two diffrent bios sets and hardware configurations. No its certianly an add no card that htey put in. They simply put it in the slot. -
so does that mean when you upgrade your GPU, I can buy your 4330 off ya?
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
The HD3200 is intergrated into the northbridge.
EDIT : The HD4330 must be a dedicated card. -
It wont fit anything else from my understanding. Its clearly marked on the bottom of the casing. -

If you search for the model of your wifi card you can see if it is a mine pci-e or an half size version.
You can see a HD4330 in the link below.

It wont be something we can do now. But as the 5x00 series cards hit laptops i'm sure we will see 4570s and other cards hit ebay. HOpefully one verison will fit in this notebook. Will give a big boost to gaming. -
Wait, I'm confused, so is there or is there not a PCI-e Slot that we can use?
-
hmm this is an interesting topic.
I have never upgraded a GPU in a notebook before. I know doing so would void the warranty.
I will have a DM3T w/ Nvidia 105m GPU which i a little weak. I can see living with it for a year or so but after the warranty can I puchase a 9600gt mobile or a 2XX series mobile GPU and as long as it is PCIe and the same size card it will work?
this would be really cool.... off to do more reading.
here is a 9600gt M that states an MXM slot. it that what is on our DM3s? or specifically a DM3T? -
got my dm3t su7300+g105m three days before the estimated delivery date. only going on the available information, i would've gone for a ul30vt at $800 -- better battery life, b/g/n, larger hdd, about the same size ... only problem is that ul30vt is 2-3 MONTHS TOO LATE and i needed it NOW to fly around the country. now that i think about it the l335+hd3200 at $500 probably would have been sufficient for me but i wanted a little more battery life. pretty happy with my dm3t so far. i'm a pretty average user, and comparing with the previous complaints, in my opinion the screen is fine and the trackpad is okay. the sound is okay for a notebook, just use headphones / external speakers if you really care. i don't like the sliding power button. but my main gripe is the inability to get rid of all this bloatware. i'm seriously thinking about formatting and installing xp.
-
someone would have to take apart the computers and check it out . If they are in pci slots then yes they would work as long as they fit in the spot.
-
the mini-pcie wifi card is the one next to the ram. The unused mini pcie slot is next to the hard drive, and is for the cellular broadband option. No clue if you can shove a mini pcie ssd in there, but if you wanted to try, you would need a half-mini pcie card, aka the kind used for dell minis. They tend to be slower than normal sized cards. I have a EEEPC, with a standard 1.8 inch pcie card, so i couldn't test the usability of that free slot.
-
if not can you do a 3dmark06 test on it and a PCMark test.
this thing is so new none of the reviews have any real benchmarks on them.
I cannot even find benchmarks on the SU7300 / SP9300 intel CPUs -
Installing XP would be retarded. -
Its funny I noticed the speakers seemed uneven too. I figured it was either a bad right speaker or the video I was watching. I did not look close with a light but I did notice something odd. If you run the speaker test built into the IDT control panel, guess what? It seemed to have perfect separation. Driver issue maybe? Does anyone else notice this?

Hi guys,
So I've decided to get the AMD variant of the DM3. Now the question is which processor to get, the L335 or L625?? As far as I can tell, the only difference between the 2 is the L2 cache of 512KB in the L335 vs 1MB in the L625.
Is that a big deal? Is the L2 cache very impt? I don't really know how the L2 cache affects overall performance. Also are there any other differences between the 2 processors that I'm missing?
I actually saw in cpubenchmark.net that the L335 is actually ranked slightly higher than the L625. How is that so as I thought the L625 is a more expensive and supposedly superior processor???
Any experts out there who knows abt this? Thanks!!! -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
I downloaded the benchmark program they use on cpubenchmark.net and i got 958 on my T335 when it lists 842 , the memory and motherboard make a difference too the score.
-
Its really the gpu that you have to look at. The l625 is tied to the hd 4330.

PC Magazine has reviewed the dm3-1030us. That's the version many of you have picked up for $499 (AMD L335 and ATI HD3200). Here's the link:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2355968,00.asp
After reading the review, I am reminded that the single core version of the L335 (i.e. the MV-40) was used to compete with the Intel Atom. I want to replace my HP dv3z (AMD Turion X2 2.1GHZ) but the dm3z is a substantial step backwards in terms of processing power. Better battery life comes with the deal but I am not sure that's enough for me.
I still think that the dm3-1030us is an awesome value at $499. Just set your expectations accordingly. -
what a lame review
why would they compare the dm3-1030us to laptops with T6400+ and P7350+ processors? why not compare with laptops with SU4100 or 7300?
that's like saying, why get a Honda Civic when you can get a car with worse mpg, less build quality, but more power for the same price? -
creepinshadow24/7 Notebook Consultant
is it possible that really nobody chose the version with the SP9300?
how come? is everyone afraid of the heat? -
I stayed away because of battery life and heat....
-
-
creepinshadow24/7 Notebook Consultant
lol, i'd do the same thing, if i just knew how well it copes with heat from the cpu/gpu
the ssd doesnt get warm, but the HDD's in the dm3 really heat things up a bit i figured after getting a hands on at bestbuy! -
I know that there a few SP9300 owners on the forum who have spoken about their experience with the dm3. It would be nice if they gave an update on their experience in terms of heat and fan noise. After getting burned by the dv3z, I need a laptop where the fan doesn't run 100% and can give great performance.
Can we get an update? -
My own experience with SP9300, and a 500GB 7200rpm HDD is that it does get warm, but not unbearably hot (not close to scalding your lap for instance).
-
what about battery life? I went with a SU7300 for battery life. It was hard to make that choice becuase of the lack of benchmarks and reviews of the CPU.
can someone with a SP9300 run some CPU benchmarks so that someone with a SU7300 or I when I get mine midnext week can post comparision benchmarks.
I really was looking at getting the SP9300 but it is not the ULV cartigory but rather the LV so I was worried about keeping around 10 hrs of battery life.
I just made this thread over at Hardforum so if any of you with dm3ts want to join in I am going to create a repository for benchmarks for Intel ULV CPUs Specifically the SP9300 and SU7300.
I did not know which one to choose and could not find enough info to make a good decission and therefore I will be benching my dm3t once I get it and will be looking for SP9300 users to compare with so i and others can make informed decissions on what CPU to pick

someone with an su7300+g105m posted earlier that they were getting 100+ fps on cs:s.
xp did everything i wanted it to do and it's faster than windows 7. -
you can download a iso of W7 and burn it and use the HP product logo..... right?
I have a technet sub so I will be installing W7 Enterprise x64
oh and that is good news that is gets 100+ FPS on CS:S
I love TF:2 so hopefully it will be getting similar FPS in TF:S -
How are you guys faring with video playback?
I have the most base amd dm3 model with the 3200
I downloaded vlc player. I can play back 720p clips just fine, 1080p is choppy.
Hulu 480p plays fine, higher than that is choppy.
youtube 720p is on and off for smoothness, 1080p is too choppy.
I downloaded and installed flash 10.1, use chrome for my browser.
downloaded the latest catalyst 9.11 drivers.
It seems like the ati chips are not being accelerated as much as the nvidia variants, so far. Hopefully this will get better with time. They seemed to focus more heavily on nvidia from the flash release so far.
Anyone else have better results? Or maybe I should start unloading some of the initial bloatware. I think some of it is ok though, like the camera software, but maybe that whole suite needs to go? -
That's odd, I get no problem with any Youtube videos (including all HD)
Also, since the flash/catalyst update Hulu HD is much better, definitely watchable with the occasional hiccup.
i have the L335/3200 -
-
i wonder if its bandwidth issues....
you both on G wireless or N wireless or LAN? -
But the 1080p youtube (make sure it was 1080p you had checked) was not smooth, have not gotten to it yet, but will soon to recheck. -
@tybert7
post a 1080p link that you used, and I'll check it too. I haven't had any problems with 720p either, hadn't bothered to check 1080p.
My first reaction was like yours though. Didn't notice anything improved outright on amd/ati with flash 10.1, and annoyingly, skipping through the video creates lag on various flash players. I'm using chrome as well. -
Never mind
Checked just now and youtube 1080p is playing just fine now. Hulu still gets some frame drops on their few HD clips but not terrible (hulu get it together !!!!!!!!!!!!)
as for the stand alone playback, for the first time, windows media player was better than vlc player. Must be something wrong, got stutters using vlc, but windows media player never had the cpu go over 30% while playing a 1080p clip.
Very strange. -
I am trying to put together some data on ULV CPUS and common benchmarks....
on a thread at hardforum. There is not enough info on these CPUs for buyer to make good decissions on CPU speed and peformance..... this will help

I have 1 DM3T user with a SP9300 and Nvidia 105m who benched 3dmark06 for me
2969 3dMarks
SM2.0 score: 1112
HDR/SM3.0 Score: 1101
CPU Score: 2027
If i could get:
DM3T SU7300 w/ Intel IGP
DM3T SU7300 w/ Nivida 7300
DM3Z L335 w/ ATI 3200 IGP
DM3Z L625 w/ ATI 3200 IGP
DM3Z L625 w/ ATI 4330
Please run 3dmark06 and PCmark05
PCmark05
3Dmark06 -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ5U8suTUw0
has options for 720p and 1080p
1080p is smooth now, but... just barely, its like it is on the cusp of skipping but just barely keeping up while playing at that rate.
cpu usage gets up to 90% hovers around 80, dips to 70s
at 720p the cpu is below 50% for me, and there is no hint of frame skipping on youtube.
Playing both 720p and 1080p clips in windows media player are perfectly fine with no signs of strain.
To test those clips you can check here for some h.264 sample clips at both 720p and 1080p
http://www.h264info.com/clips.html
I am satisfied. Main concern was being able to play hd flash videos at at least 720p, for this screen, that is perfect. 1080p playback from flash would be a bonus, and with improved drivers, even that should be perfect with time on the lowest of the low specced dm3s.
I really do like this machine. Even with the amds lower battery life, it still clocks in at twice the battery life of my atom netbook with its paltry 3 cell.
It has a nicer screen for viewing web pages, more ram, more space, more cpu power, and just enough graphic power to accelerate some higher quality flash video when wanted, on top of flawless HD playback from the harddrive.
That, and it is one of the nicest looking laptops I have ever seen. I think I am in love. -
For the AMD variants, all specs are the same except for processor, HDD & RAM. All models will have ATI 4330. So it'll be either;
1) AMD L335 + ATI 4330, or
2) AMD L625 + ATI 4330 (additional US$70)
So the quesiton is, is the extra 70 bucks worth it? Given the relative performance of the L335 and L625?
RAM given is 2GB but i intend to buy another 2GB separately, so that'll make my system 4GB.
Any thoughts??? -
Is it just me or is the performance of the HD 3200 on this laptop less than expected? in CS:Source I only get ~45 FPS with no AA/AF. And has anyone noticed that changing the memory setting in AMD GPU Clock Tool does have some effect. Mine shows 400 as default but if i put it to 600 and apply my screen artifacts. so it has some effect somewhere...
-
OK...
First, somebody here was asking about the audio. It is definitely mono until you update the driver. The separation is still subpar with the update, but at least it is ersatz stereo. Yeah, I called HP support on this. In fact, they originally told me to reformat the machine and start over. Which is dumb since the problem can only be fixed with the driver update. I think their online fixit system says to reformat and reinstall to fix the problem. Lame.
Second, yeah at first HP was going to include the utility to boots into a cheapo versio of Linux for web access and media. It is even mentioned in a video with the product manager. Somehow that feature was pulled, and its only in the pro version of this model. Rather disappointing, but I never found the feature in writing, only in the video. I actually called HP support about this, but they were not very helpful. In truth, I find that hibernating into Windows 7 is a decent way to go with this machine. To respond to the people who are asking about putting XP on the machine....I respond ...why? Windows 7 looks great, behaves well, etc. Only reason is for app compatibility I suppose....can use the previous version of Microsoft Virtualization for that (2007?).
Thrid, the mouse pad. Update the driver, disable multitouch, and the boot problems go away. I have to turn the pad off when typing into screen such as the one I am in now. Otherwise my palm sets the cursor scurrying off elsewhere. Anybody come up with other workarounds besides turning off the pad? I called HP support to complain about this too. Again, the original solution was....you guessed it....reformat the machine. Lame again.
I'd love to see a video demonstrating what the pads can do with all features on. I am more of a visual person.
Oh yeah, I have the $550 with $50 Office Depot 1030us. Bought it on day one of Windows 7 availability.
Like many of you, my approach is "hey its cheap so it is not perfect, so what".. .I can always upgrade later, and probably sell the thing for about half what was paid (not bad really). I mean somebody bought my broken Sony for $140 (yes it was fully disclosed that the motherboard or power supply was shot). -

So is the update audio driver on the hp site?
I have 6.10.6230.0 pre-installed -
*edit: Fixed it, went to catalyst control centre and 'enabled high performance GPU'
Arghhh, help! I've just got my lovely new dm3z but the 4330 isn't showing up in device manager or catalyst control panel?! I can only see the 3200. Can anyone help please, I'm worried they've sent it to me without the upgrade graphics card!
