Yeah, I wouldn't call it overrated unless you can give at least a few examples of better deals.

I got all of those features for $706 after tax without the hardrive. I would not say that this thing is overrated, not at all. This computer is SLICK.

Unless you have some reason to choose a more powerful CPU, the I5-430M is fine.

Can anyone explain the performance difference between the 512MB Mobility 5450 and the 1GB Mobility 5450? I can't find anything on notebookcheck.

512MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5450 switchable graphics

1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5450 switchable graphics

Get the 512, there is no difference in real world performance at all.

Well benchmarks show that the extra 512 isn't necessary unless playing games at higher resolutions, or when using certain CAD programs I think. But I'm not sure I researched this a long time ago. Depends on what your using it for I guess. If your gaming performance increase will be negligible.

Just orderred mine as well. Thanks for the review abaddon4180.

Question....it says estimated build date is June 15th. Is that pretty accurate as far as when it'll be shipped? I'm hoping to get it as soon as possible.

I actually received mine before the estimated build date. So I would think you will get it on or around the 15th.

Are there any coupon codes out for this laptop? What do you current users think of it so far?

I'm looking to buy a laptop for my aunt and I'm just doing some preliminary research.

I have a 27" 1080p monitor. If I hooked up the dm4t to it, would the display (icons, text, etc.) look HUGE and ridiculous?

When I hooked up my old Acer Aspire it was just insane, I felt like a 90 year old person with bad eyes.

No, the dm4 should be able to output 1080p, so everything should be nice and crisp (and small).

It's really not pink. It's like a champagne color. And isn't very pronounced and definitely far from girly.

Well whatever it is, I don't like it...definitely looks feminine. ;) I even prefer black over silver/grey. I wish HP would give you more options like Dell does. The case is really the only thing holding me back...

in certain lighting conditions it can look pink but if u look at other photos you can clearly see that its more silver/champagne in color.

I saw it in person today at Costco, and it is definitely not pink. Those who do think it's pink are imagining things, or at least doing a good job of consciously convincing themselves that it is pink.

Dam ... I may be revamping my entire notebook refresh plan since I saw the news on the TM2T tablet. I5-540UM (possibly I7-640UM) w/5450 GPU in a 12" tablet. I may replace my Acer 1410T with this tablet. This would take care of my mobile presentation needs if I can get the GPU OC'ed enough to run GIS and satelite images seamlessly on the smart board. That would leave me free to choose someting a bit larger than the Acer 3820TG as my main notebook. Not sure what I would do there, but there are enough workstations at work that I might not need to get it immediately and I can look at my options (Next Envy 15 refresh with dual drives and 1080p display? :D )

Funny, only a couple of weeks ago I had my Acer 1410T at an excavation site and saved the day with information that none of the engineers had. :D Decided that it would have been nicer to have had a tablet mode to look at the schematics right at the excavation while the work was going on. Started looking at tablets then.

Would love to know how high this GPU will OC. Any idea why the ATI tool won't work? Anybody else successfully do this? How do you find the GPU? Do you think it could handle something like a 3D model rendering?

    Bronsky

Edit; sorry all - don't mean to hijack this thread.

Let me rephrase it so you can understand, cause I'm not sure why this is so complicated and y'all are being so defensive.

If you saw two guys walking down the street. One wearing a suit with the dm4t color, and one wearing a suit all black. Which would you think looked more masculine? ;)

I guess it all comes down to the good old phrase. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If I wanted a good old fashioned black laptop, I would have bought a lenovo or dell. Originality, quality build and performance matter more to me than color.

Which leads me back to my original question...

Is there another laptop with similar specs and price that comes in black? I don't see why with all the laptop choices nowadays it's impossible to have the hardware, color, and price you want.

I'm looking at the Dell Vostro 3400 right now...anyone have any opinions of it?

I actually bought the DM4 but returned it because of the color. It was great, but I just couldn't get over the color.

Either way, I have been looking for a similar laptop to the DM4 in a more neutral color (silver/black for me). Acer has the Timeline X series coming out soon, although the build quality may not be very good. It is out in other markets (just not US) and has gotten good reviews, but most seem to say there is some flex. It's one laptop on my radar right now.

All of them are shipping from Shanghai. HP built a manufacturing facility there a few years ago. You should have it either Friday or Monday, is my best guess.
