Unless my order is just an anomaly, it seems that HP is getting a little slower with their production and shipping of the dm4. My estimated ship date is June 11; by previous standards, it should have shipped on June 8. It is now June 9, and still no signs of shipping.

Yours probably won't ship until June 14 or 15.

Does anybody know if the dm4t will be available in Europe? I got back a standard email from the (German) HP Support saying: "we have no information concerning dm4t. Check out our releases " and I haven't found a site which would ship to Germany. :( getting really frustrated

Could somebody with a DM4T run 3dMark06 at native settings and post them so I can get an idea of the performance of the HD5450. I am consdering the new tablet TM2T with an HD5450. I need to figure out if it can serve my needs. Thanks in advance.

For all those who ordered on either June 2nd or 3rd -- are your orders still in production? Mine hasn't been shipped yet, and I'm actually a little surprised.

For extra $320 it seems to good to be true. Newegg sells it for $430 now.

I've read a couple of pages from this thread, and didn't find an answer.

What is the difference between DM4T and DM4?

I'm looking at the DM4 1060US that is currently available at my store for $800 after tax.

Dm4t is customizable online. The Dm4 is just a pre-made build you get in the store.

You can get that exact same configuration as a customized model on the HP website for $729.99. I believe it's the base model.

soad is right, that exact config is currently $730 plus tax on HPs website but with BCB or the member discount the tax is taken away. You have to wait for it to be built but you save around $75

    k. I just bought a DM4 1060us for $765 after taxes. Too bad it doesnt have the HD 8450 graphics card. But the same store I bought it from is selling the graphic card by itself for $50. Is the switch hard?

    >.< Just checked online. Same spec was going for $729 before taxes. Oh well.

I'm thinking of getting the i7-620m version with the coupon instead of waiting for the Envy 14. It all comes down to whether the Envy 14 will have a sale/discount on the release that is good enough so that I can get something just as good as this dm4t (i7-620m, 500gb 7200rpm HD, 4gb ram, radeon 5450 switchable) for the same or just slightly higher price (about 975 dollars).

    Thoughts?

The Envy 14 is going to have the ATI5650, which is almost twice as good as the 5450, though.

Yeah, but do you think the typical HP new release sales that will possibly happen with the Envy 14 be good enough so that I can get all of the above specs for roughly the same, very good, price? I don't want to spend much more than 1000, and this deal is looking really tempting. I hadn't even been considering an i7-620 but this deal popped up and it's a damn good one.

I wish HP would give more price/stats info about the Envy 14, it'd make it so much easier to decide on whether to wait or whether to take advantage of offers like this.

It depends on if you need the GPU power, which you won't unless you want to max out games. The 5450 can play pretty much any game out right now, albeit some on low settings.

The 5450 is probably fine for me. It's for college and light gaming.

Are there any special features, design quirks, etc that the Envy 14 has that the dm4t doesn't? I know that the Envy 14 supposedly has lots of fixes in things like heating and the touchpad that other models had problems with, is the dm4t one of those troubled models? Any other interesting features that would make holding out for the Envy 14 worth it?

The Envy 14 supposedly has "Beats audio", but I'm skeptical that it would be much better than standard audio. I mean, how much better can you get?

After release of the Envy 14 they may offer the instant savings they currently are offering with other models. However, there is a big if and there will be a wait period before coupons work for it. I highly doubt HP would issue coupons following a new release, but I havent studied there marketing approach.

HP has not met its sale quotas for Q2. They will be discounting the crap out of all of their models, including new releases. Expect decent Bing cash back whenteh envy is released and cupons by early July.

Why not? As soon as the Envy 15 R2 came out there were $300 and $450 coupons out for it. As soon as the Envy 17 came out there were $300 coupons. I don't see a reason we won't see some nice coupons for the Envy 14 at launch or soon thereafter.

    Hello guys,
    I have a question
I want to buy the HP Dm4 and replace the hard drive with the Crucial RealSSD 256 GB one found here:
    CTFDDAC256MAG-1G1 - 256GB, 2.5-inch Solid State Drive , from Crucial.comUS

How can i find out if it will work or even fit inside this new HP DM4?
On their notebook compatibility tool online it doesn't list hp dm4, so should i scrap my plans to buy the ssd?

Also can i upgrade the switchable ati 5450 graphics card later and still have it switchable if i buy another graphics card like nvidia's 330M or something?

It sounds like people are sticking it in their laptops.. so it should fit here.

No, you can't upgrade to a different graphics card like the 330M. If you want a better graphics card, like the ATI 5650 (comparable to the 330M), then go for the Envy 14.

    hi guys,

first thanks for the valueable information you provide about pavilion dm4t.

i just bought one for my wife a few days ago. it comes with win7 home edition 64. i reimaged it to win7 ultimate 64. everything works fine except: whenever i plug or unplug the AC adapter, the screen will turn brighter (or dim more) first (which is normal and expected). however, it will black out for a few seconds, leaving an arrow blinking on center of the black, and then come back to the normal state before the blackout. I didn't see this behavior before the reimage and i assume there is something i did wrong or missing from my reimage. my machine is customized with Intel HD Graph card and I did install the Intel HD driver after reimage and "device manager" shows it works well.

If you've experience with such a problem, please share with me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

It sounds like you might have installed the GFX driver for the dm4 with switchable ATI graphics and it is trying to switch the graphics.

    Hello,
I just joined this forum and am hoping to gain some advice from you DM4 owners. Last month I got a really good deal on an HP DM3-1030 laptop for my son. I thought that it was so nice that I ended up buying one for myself. However, the good deal that I got on the 1030 could no longer be had, and I really wanted an Intel processor primarily for the longer battery life. I ended up getting the DM3-1140 which has the SU4100 cpu. The computer is great but I am getting a little buyers remorse, especially with the deal that can be had on a new DM4T with an I5 processor and a DVD drive for not much more money. However, I have a few questions. I am not much of a gamer and plan to use this for running pretty much basic programs like excel, word, IE, etc. I would also like to be able to stream and watch occassional HD movies via the HDMI port. Would the DM4T easily handle these tasks without the graphics card add on? I know that the GC is switchable but I am a little concerned that it may impact battery life even when not being used. I want to keep this as slim as possible and am looking at at std. battery rather than an extended battery. How is the "Windows Experience Index" on your machines? I searched for this but was unable to find responses. I am curious about this with the basic Intel graphics as well as with the GC add on. Thanks for your inputs.

Hello everybody, i got my dm4t. Like it a lot.
However, the right speaker seem to have some static noise, especially when it try to play any drum/bass part in the song. The laptop speaker has absolutely no bass, but the sound seem to be suppressed and making it sound like statics noise in with the song when it playing. Sometimes the right speaker get louder suddenly and keep at that volume level, usually when i start a song, it seem like right speaker volume is less than the left one (seem like it need to warm up). but overall, the right speaker sound has trouble when it play any bass part.

Anybody has any problem like this? I used to have dv4, and the speaker was absolutely better than this one, an my old laptop was 3.5 years ago.

should i send it back for service?

Thanks everyone for all the valuable info in this thread. People's reviews have swayed me towards picking up a dm4t.

I'm currently using an early 2008 15" Macbook Pro, and one of my big complaints against it is how hot it runs. Right now, the bottom side is 42* C. This is the hottest it gets, but it happens quite frequently, and I can't even rest the laptop on my legs without extreme discomfort. Can anyone who owns or has owned the dm4 comment on how hot the exterior of the laptop gets? Thanks a lot!
