    Sadly from the video and images i saw it looks like it right on the motherboard and not a MXM type card, but im not 100% sure yet, im still going to look around an most likely take it apart lol But thank you very much, i knew that someone would respond relatively quickly lol

    After further review (Tore open the DV3510NR) And its an ONBOARD graphics card, not an MXM card. Thats a bummer for sure. But its still a heck of a nice laptop. I will post the pictures and some video of my adventures in opening it once i take the pics of the camera.

    Thanks again for the quick answer Harddy!

    If you have 4GB of memory is XP really needed for gaming or can I keep Vista?
    Want max speed for games..

    Is it only a memory slow down using Vista or video and CPU slow down too? anyone tested the different operating systems for speed with decent ram?

    I also have linux on this HP DV3510NR, and linux runs great, Its just when running games it not as great as a wanted it to be. Its okay and all but most new games (Burnout, COD WAW, COD 4) all need to be at low settings to play well. I was just hoping for better. But oh well, still a nice PC. Vista Runs well. XP Runs Great(Xp is 64 bit) And Linux(Open Solaris) Runs pretty good, except the video drivers HUMMM really loud. But its pretty godd. Next im putting on Hackintosh lol.

    @MysticMicMan
    I can see you've also toyed around with alternative OS'es on your laptop.
    Have you experienced any problem with not being able to adjust brightness using the Fn+F7/F8 keys? - and if so, have you found any workarounds to fix the problem?
    - I'm triplebooting WinXP, Ubuntu and Win7beta (all 32bit) - and in spite of several hours of trying to fix it, I can only adjust the brightness in the latter OS using the Fn-F7/F8 :-/

I had to do something special in XP, i had to download this one file. I will post it here when i get home. Im at work now, but i shall post it. Also i will get back to you if there is any key troubles in Hackintosh (Installed it today, Looks good) lol

    When the for the file link is up I'll give it a run on WinXP32bit and report back with the results! (I'm dying of anticipation right now - it would ROCK if it also worked for me :D).

    I've now placed my order of the Swedish version version of the DV3500 series (DV3550, same as US model but without backlit kb, unfortunately). Can't wait to put my hands on it. Especially after testing out my girlfriends new DV7 which she got today! Very nice I must say! =)

    Tank you Harddy! =) I like this machine! Just finished playing WiC at native res and low details which i accept! Only a few questions:

    1. I'd only manage to get 4588 PCMark 2005 points. Isn't that to low? It should be getting around 5400 or so i'm sure i've read somewhere

    2. In PCMark Vantage the part: TV & Movie suite, it failed and therefor my end score was only 2820 which is about 600 points lower than laptopmag.com got when they tested it. Any idea on a solution there?

    3. Have some of you guys manage to get the remaining battery to be shown in hours & minutes? Red something here in the forum that HP's batteries doesn't support that function.

    Thats it for now. Maby I'll come up with som more thoughts/questions over time.

    harddy, thanks for the links. I downloaded them the other day. I guess my problem is I have been unable to get the fingerprint reader to work and the quick launch keys to work. From perusing the forum, there seems to be software that is also tied to it. Unfortunately, the site doesn't have it (in the dv3500)

    HI

    I´ve purchased the HP Pavilion dv3540es today, and I have great news for everybody!!!!!

    Leopard works on this machine!!!!!

    Its working on my HP right now. :

    Out-of-the-box working components: camera , bluetooth, touchpad, ethernet, sleep, restart, turn off..

    Non working out-the-box: graphic card (for acceleration and res.change) , Wifi, fingerprint reader, and soundcard. (I´ve just installed without any drivers, except ICH9 and ethernet, to ensure my testing pourpouses.)

    Can anyone else comment on the amount of light leakage on their screen? I bought a 3510NR from BestBuy and have a significant amount of leakage from the bottom, particularly on full brightness. Trying to decide if it's worth doing something about or if it's typical.

    Most laptop screens are not completely dark when displaying a solid black background because there is what is called light leakage or screen bleed. These are areas that are lighter than the black they should be because the backlight of the screen is "leaking" into the monitor, usually at the bottom.

    Check this out for some idea of what I'm talking about. Also, in post 13 of the thread, the last picture (all the way to the right) is similar to what I'm seeing at full brightness.

    I would say that it's even. Sience it's very bright thanks to the LED funktion, I usualy lower the brightness except when in fully daylight. If I compare it to my older Asus, also that one w/ a AOU display but the CCFL type, it's like the backlight isn't working properly on it compared to this wonderful LED :)

    I've the dv3505ea and I was wondering if anyone has made any progress in overclocking the 9300 GS? I've tried many drivers but not had much luck as yet.

    With riva tuner the Mem clock seems to only report as 100, where as GPU-z reports the correct 400. When setting some new values I have seen on occasion it overclock but for only a very short time.

    Maybe I should get some screen shots together...

    Very little from the bottom (but not really noticeable), but you'd probably have a hard time if you were to look for a laptop that has none.

    Hi everyone!

    I have just got myself a HP DV3550 and I'm having trouble with Windows XP :confused: . Now I have gone back to using Vista but before I try XP again I need to solve some problems.

    1. My DVD drive is not showing at all in XP(32bit).
    2. Mouse is doing strange things like sometimes stops moving.
    3. Sometimes integrated speakers make cracking sound.
    4. There was a unknown device in device manager.

    Please, anyone?

    @Don Guano
    #1 (& #4): I'm guessing that by "not showing at all" you mean, that not only hasn't your dvd drive been assigned a letter in the Disk Management, but it doesn't appear in your Device Manager at all. If this is the case then perhaps you have your answer for your own question #4 (only then, how did you install XP - CD, USB key or something entirely different?).
    Try firing up your Device Manager and check out the hardware IDs (3rd tab) under properties for your unknown device - if it isn't self-explanatory then Google will help you to quickly discern which device it is.
    #2: I've had similar issues, primarily in Win7. You probably have an ALPS touchpad like I do, so you could try and install a newer driver - if you can't find one from HP, I know that Toshiba, Asus, Dell also have some models with ALPS touchpads, so you can try fooling around with some of their drivers (or find some generic ones directly from ALPS, if possible).
    #3. The IDT audio drivers (for Vista) that came with the computer ('swsetup\drivers\audio') worked for me in XP32bit.

    > And now; for the inevitable question of my own: Did your brightness adjustment (Fn+F7/F8) work in WinXP?!??! (and if yes, then how did you effin' fix it? ;-P).

    I'll try to fiddle around with the wallpaper and see what I get, however with the current one (nature -- lots of colours and different shades/etc) its nowhere near what you are getting (I'm guessing that what I described earlier on might decrease a person's perception of the problem given the amount of detail on the wallpaper).

    Thank you for your answers! I'll report back when I try another install. First I will get myself a second HD.

    Oh and btw my DV3 is leaving to HP for a screen exchange. I wasn't satisfied with the viewing angles (black gets whiter on bottom and top of the screen even when viewing from straight angle and contrast gets too bad even from a small angle). They asked me to send some photos and after analysing them they thought the screen is defective that it should be better. We'll se...

    Thanks. The link is not to a pic of my own machine, but of someone else's which approaches what I'm seeing on mine. It's more a point of reference, as I wouldn't say mine is quite that bad. Trying to get some "data points" from other people to help me decide how much to complain to HP.

    Seems that installing Intel Matrix Storage driver is the cause for my DVD drive to disappear. Uninstalling the software won't bring it back so not installing it in the first place does the trick. And still having one unknown device tho :confused:

    Can anyone else comment on their screen backlight? Even noting how it looks on Windows startup, when the screen is mostly black (after the screen has been lit but only the Windows logo is visible) would be helpful. How much white light do you have bleeding from the edges? :)

    @waterwagen
    \begin{insanely unscientific explanation}
    [dv3550eo, AU Optronics display - unknown model]
    When looking at a full-screen black image at full brightness, I think the screen looks almost homogeneously lit (albeit the color is slightly greyish and not deep black) when looking from just about any angle above horizontal (with the display being verticaly, of course).

    When looking from below horizontal, the bottom seems slightly more illuminated than top - I'm guessing that's what you would call bleed from the bottom.
    \end{insanely unscientific explanation}

    But hey - the monitor is the best flatscreen I've ever had the chance to work with over extended periods of time, so no complaining from my part!
