I have a confession to make! I received my laptop on monday, and frankly i am disappointed with hp and whoever assembles the computer, but i am thrilled about the design. It is by far the nicest computer that i have ever owned and I would like to say it is superfast after a clean install of x64 business. I have had no heat issues as it constantly remains around 30 degrees on full power and does not go higher, my hard drive also stays at about 32 degrees. My fan is not audible and i have not heard it once yet. the only qualm i have with the laptop is that the upper right corner of the keyboard has some crazy flex, it seems liek the assembler "bent" the keyboard when putting it in. Ive already contacted hp about it and they are rebuilding the laptop. One thing i noticed is i lost the ability to hibernate when i shut down the laptop. Has that happened to anyone else? I cant get the option to reappear on the start menu.
-
-
Hibernate probably got disabled. To enable it back on...\
>Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
>In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
>When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
>At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press ENTER.
>Type exit, and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window.

miner, that didnt work my laptop only hibernates if the lid is shut, because that is what ive set it to do, but the actual option to click hibernate from the start menu no longer exists.

I'm interesting in ordering either this or the dv5t for my mom. All she needs is the internet and MS Word in a stylish package, so no bells and whistles. My only concern is this heat issue that people have been talking about.
I'm going for a lower-speed processor and an integrated Intel graphics, so I'm guessing that those are not going to generate much heat under normal (non-gaming) use. My concern is with the hard drive: Does it get hot enough to make keeping the notebook on your lap uncomfortable? Do any of those hard drive options run cooler than the others? Is the dv5t any different?
Thanks for any help. -
My CPU temp is 45 C.
I have Outlook, Excell, Firefox, AIM and Skype currently open, using AC Power Source.
I have the P8600 with the 9200 graphics card. I believe my HD is Western Digital.... -

CPU 54 °C (129 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #1 48 °C (118 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 46 °C (115 °F)
GPU 55 °C (131 °F)
WDC WD2500BEVS-60UST0 44 °C (111 °F)
I just downloaded Pokerstars and have AIM, Skype, Firefox, Outlook and Escell open..
Are these values okay? -

Just curious, how does the 9200 gs graphics option on the DV4T compare to the integrated Radeon 3200 in the DV4Z? Roughly similar?
-
CPU a bit warm but is perfectly normal.
WDC is perfectly fine.
You're good....
On average, I got the same temperature. -
I removed the slot where the remote goes, and this is my new reading:
CPU 47 °C (117 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #1 40 °C (104 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 38 °C (100 °F)
GPU 49 °C (120 °F)
WDC WD2500BEVS-60UST0 44 °C (111 °F) -
gahh!! ordered on the 15th and it is still in production. it is scheduled to be shipped on the 26th. is this normal. can't take the wait anymore lol.

Hey there Kevin-
I'm in the exact same boatI check the HP site for updates waaaaay to often throughout the day. It sounds like everyone had been getting the laptops early which has gotten my hopes up. If our schedule is around the same as Code9's then we should see a change today or tomorrow. Crossing my fingers...I'll update you if I see anything change. I ordered mine on the 15th aswell and have expected ship date of the 26th
later -
Can someone help me please?
I realizse that there is a lot fo bloatware on my dv4t. I am afraid to remove programs because I am not sure if my computer needs them. Can someone please tell me which programs to remove to free up space...I have a lot of space used up on my 250GB hard drive and im not sure why... -
My laptop has SHIPPED! YAY for me. Ordered the 13th and it shipped today the 21! Was supposed to ship on the 22th so i am one day ahead not bad.

its trail and error, just make a back up or restore point, you can always reinstall things.
MAKE RECOVER CD FIRST
Edit-dont search for printers at work over the last 2 hours then try to type laptop it comes out printer... -

so no one else's laptop is noisy? i guess i'm used to my old dell being really quiet except during more intense processes. haha i'll be a little jealous if all you guys' laptops have fans that are inaudible. i can definitely hear mine, though i forget about them when it's in my room. i'm just a little worried about if i have to bring it to class. maybe the newer ones have better fans? meh. i've had my laptop for almost 2 weeks. it hasn't had any problems except for my own mistakes (accidentally uninstalling the audio driver and removing the touchpad driver from the startup programs). speaking of which, anyone know how to add programs to startup? i only figured out how to remove them using windows defender.

I am new to this forum.
I have ordered HP dv4t on 08/15/2008. I ordered 64 -bit window vista with 3 Gb ram. i heard that we need 4 GB ram with 64 bit system. is that true?
any one please give me answer. -
I ordered mine with the free upgrade to 2GB, and purchased 4GB from newegg since it is much cheaper there. I installed it when the computer came, and it was very very easy. Before I installed the 4GB, I started the computer and played around a little with it using the factory installed 2GB and had no problems. -
-
Has anyone done any more tweaking on the color settings in the nvidia control panel? I agree with DV4TReview that they are not good by default, but I can not get them right. What are your settings if you tweaked them?

If you have the LED screen I will help you out.

hey everybody, we just got a dv5t fully loaded for my brother.
64bit
c2d 8400
3gb ram
160gb 7200 rpm
512 nvidia 9600
high resolution infinity screen etc... it is FASTand WARM all the time...
anyways I am about to buy a dv4t
c2d 8400 cpu
3 gb ram
250 gb hdd
intel wifi 5100 bluetooth
infinity screen webcam fingerprint
and I am going to ask 2 questions....
1) vista 64 bit or 32 bit ???? I guess I dont use any 64 bit programs?? so what will be the difference?
2) Nvidia 9200 or Intel GMA X4500 ???? I guess they both have hdmi outputs right? On the website it says if you configure with nvidia you re gonna get firewire port and 10/100/1000 ethernet.
What if I go with intel? which I really want to go, because I dont play games and I dont want to hear that fan all the time... I dont care about the firewire, I only need the HDMI because I hook it to my lcd tv all the time... Am I really going to lose gigabit ethernet?
Please give me some advice...
Thanks -
64 bit Vista will allow you to take advantage of 4GB of ram. I would not order 3GB from HP. Get the free upgrade to 2GB if they are offering it, or whichever is the cheapest, and order 4GB from Newegg for less then 60 bucks. Its very simple to install. This way you save almost 100 bucks and get the extra from HP to keep as spares. If you are using all recent programs, then go with the 64 bit. You could maybe move up to the 8600 chip with the savings. -
On the other side of the coin, dedicated video card does take more energy out of the battery and gives out more heat to the notebook itself. Furthermore, nVidia has some problems with the drivers working on Vista, Here is an article: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4554
I don't know if that effects 9200M GS, but some laptop's reviewers debate if its should be upgraded or not.
Video card's can't be upgraded in future, so you should keep that in mind.
So with all that said... If in future you will never play games on this notebook and the only thing you will do is browse, watch movies and etc, maybe you should go for Integrated Video Card. You would also need to limit the Aero Experience on it for the laptop to work better.
However, if in future you would want to play games, use Aero and do some graphic stuff then take 9200M GS.
If you are taking integrated video card, make sure to take 4GB of RAM since the Ram is being shared and you want the Ram to go to the system for faster performance.
I'm not sure if HDMI comes with Integrated Video Card, need to verify that with HP representative or ask someone here on the forum, but I think it does.
Regarding the Vista 32bit or 64bit, I would go for Vista 32bit since much more programs run in 32bit. -
There are bunch of HP software installed but many of them are needed like Touchpad, HP Update.
Just make sure HP control center doesn't start at startup and have HP update to update new software that comes out.
Remove Norton Internet Security, and use a special tool provided by Norton Website for removal of it's garbage.
If you get Kaspersky, you would be able to disable Windows Defender also, since Kaspersky got everything. -
The laptop was shipped on Aug 8 from KUNSHAN CN > SHANGHAI CN >ANCHORAGE, AK > MEMPHIS, TN > and to my location.
It Arrived on Aug 11, extremely quickly. It actually had to arrive on Aug 13, but Fedex didn't keep it, good for me. -
hello im actually new here... i bought my dv4t before i actually read this thread... i can offer a little input... the hard drive does get warm, yet its not an issue at all.. my friend used his fingerprint and was able to acces my profile.. which i dont think its hps fault but its funny as ****... the aim that came installed on the comp did freeze up quite a bit.. i jus downloaded a newer version and so far it seemes ok... building and shipping took about 11 days wich is pretty sick.. but it doesnt look like i got the infinity screen thingy cuz it dips... it doesnt bother me but if they are gonna advertise it why woulndt they give it to me.. ive been doin some gaming and unreal tournament 2004 plays wonderfully but i did have that video card blackout thing that other guy was talkin about once... havent tested much else out the easy access controls work fine. im very very pleased with this notebook so far... the keyboard is soft yet firm so it doesnt feel like crappy plastic.. the hp touchpad always bothered me but you get used to it.. the i have tested the nvidia graphics card with 3d mark vantage... and it was horrible at like 0 frames per second... the test is pretty insane though like my friends 1g 8800 gt only got like 16 fps on that test... sound quality is also very good... well anyway ima stop rambling hope u guys are havin as much fun as i am with this thing.. oh and i appologize for the grammer its late over here haha

Hi, thanks for the advices
I will go with the 32 bit I guess and 3 or 4 gigs of ram
But I still dont know what to do with the graphics card. You say it is going to be slow but last year I was using a dv6000 series with 256mb dedicated nvidia and a friend of mine got a sony fz with integrated x4300 or sth and it was pretty much the same with the nvidia. no slowdowns because of integrated card. and yesterday I made a research on the cards and new x4500 is almost same with nvidia 9200 on the benchmarks. check this out number 77 and 90 so thats not a real difference...

Mine was set to ship on the 22nd and it shipped on the 21st. As someone else mentioned, for awhile they were ahead of schedule. However, that coupon they did last week must have really slowed them down.
What I mean to say is, if you have a scheduled ship date of sometime in the end of August or the first of September, expect it to be right on the nose. Sorry to the bearer of bad news. Mine says it's still in China........ -
so just to confirm..the date on the order status is when it is going to be shipped not when i will receive it right? right now my estimated ship date is the 26th. so if all goes well it may ship on the 25th and i should receive it around the 28th? why would the use of the coupon slow things down. i used that $400 off coupon by the way
-
If your estimated ship date is the 26th, I would expect it to ship no earlier than the 25th. Sorry man....
Also, cwunch: The integrated card has ZERO memory of its own. The only memory it has it shares with the main memory. So if you order Vista with 2 gig of ram and then share that with the video card, I expect Vista to slow down a bit.
Heres what I was told when I was shopping around: The 9200 will use a little bit more power. But with a high capacity 6 cell your still looking at like... 2.5 hours? Not bad. Furthermore, the 9200 has 256MB of dedicated memory. Its going to be much faster and shouldn't pull from the performance of Vista.
Also, the 9200 benchmarks at 1400 in 3DMark06 and is DirectX 10 compatible. The 4500 is 1174 in 3DMark 06.
The way I see it, about the same in battery, 256 mb dedicated ram, and DirectX 10 compatible. I'm not trying to sell you on the 9200, but I purchased an integrated card 3 years ago and start to play Second Life for a college course (yes, they made us play it... lol...) and I will never buy another integrated.
One final note... 32 bit Vista cannot use 4GIG of ram is my understanding. 32 bit can only use 3 gig. Only 64 bit can use all 4 gig.
Hope this rant helps.... -
do we have anyone here with the intel graphics card so that we can compare the real resluts ??? -
What's the max ram the integrated graphics uses? If you have 4 gigs and are running 64 bit, then it should run aero perfectly.
-
hey check my last post for Intel x4500 results on CS:S
-
Got mine yesterday and so far so good except for all of the bloatware. It looks like I have a Fujitsu hard drive in the device manager. It's warm on the left side of the touchpad but it was never hot that it was unbearable.
-
has anybody who ordered on the 15th get theirs shipped yet
-
-
I have HWmonitor but the HD temp doesn't show, just the CPU and GPU. Couldn't find where to see the HD temps.
-
I've noticed alot of people complain about HD temps here, but my computer has been on for over 48 hours, on the bed downloading stuff, and my hard drive temp according to everest has not gone over 44C. -
I ordered mine on 8/13 and it just left Alaska on its journey to California.

Do you thing there's a big chance it will get here by Monday? Cuz i'm super excited to try this baby out. I've been checking the tracking on average 10 times a day.
@c0de9: You said your came on Aug 11th, which is only 11 days after order (including weekends). That's pretty quick. Could you post your Fedex history if it still available? Where did your go after leaving Alaska? Geez I'm so impatient right now.
P.s. on side note, Lenovo's U330 (13.3 incher) is available for only $977 (after 15% coupon) that has everything i configured with my dv4t except the CPU being P7350 and the GPU being Radeon HD 3450 and better with 3GB DDR3 Ram and LED Frameless Screen. Does anyone here has a thought of switching? -
