Does anyone here opt for LED? What is the weight of dv4t with non-led screen? How about LED?
I am tired of carrying my compal DL76 around campus. So, hopefully my dv4t will be somewhere between 4.5 ~ 5 (HP.com advertise dv4t check in at 4.82 lb).
I'm also thinking removing the DVD burner as well since I haven't burn/watch dvd for years. (Digital contents FTW).
Let me know what yours weight in. Mine coming this friday, much excited.
-
Weight 5.18lbs (6 cell) according to:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...=Category&v1=Mobility&series_name=dv4t_series
Where do you see 4.82lb? -
yeah that was weird to me too when i saw this page. on the little picture for the dv4t it gives you the screen size and the weight and it says 4.80 lb. http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/series_can.do?storeName=computer_store&landing=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=Mobility
-
If you notice they also say weight varys with options. It could be that the 4.81 is with the LED and/or no CD/DVD drive
-
does the weight with LED and non-LED differ that much? is there also difference in thickness of the lid like the m1330
-
Please post a quick description of how you made this disk.
Thanks in advance! -

Can you do a fresh install using those disks? Or do they not make that feature available?

TO ALL DV4T OWNERS regarding the Heat left side Issue:
I noticed that you can remove from the left side of the palm the remote or the cover. When you remove the cover, air can enter and cool down the left side a little bit, since there is space between for air and the top case. This cover is located right on top of the Wireless and hard drive. So maybe this will solve the problem for some people.
Please reply if it will become comfortable for the left wrist to work on the notebook. -

Hey guys -
Well, I'm very close to making a decision here, and am leaning toward the DV4T. One question, however...
One of the big concerns that I've had is over the screen size, and whether or not I should move up to a 15.4screen, especially in the DV5T with the higher res screen. I've gone back and forth on this over the past few days, just can't make up my mind, even after seeing them in the store. It seems like the DV5T battery life is worse, so I'm inclined to stick with the DV4T.
I'm wondering if anyone can take a picture of their screen with a standard Web site up (like NYTimes.com or ESPN.com or something), just so I can get a sense of how it looks on the widescreen 14.1. I've not had a widescreen laptop, and am a little nervous that the lower resolution plus smaller screen will be a problem for daily usage. -
The answer is easy,
Do you want a longer battery life/easyer to carry around and a good screen?
or
Do you want a shorter battery life/harder to carry around and a better screen?
???
As far as I look at it, humans are great at adapting to there choices/environment which everone you pick will most likely work out. There not that far appart. Unless of course you want to game with the 9600GT -
I enjoy it the screen size. For me, I only find the 11.1" and lower to be to small in terms of screen size. For whatever reason, MSPaint cut off the right and top side of the screen...Attached Files:

Way to go man, nice choice!

i love the dv4t. in my opinion the brightview infinity is the screen to get because without those borders, its so much easier to clean. no dust getting into those cracks. plus, this thing looks amazing.
i dont know why people are complaining about the heat. it barely heats up for me and i keep my laptop on 24 hours a day. i have the p8400 core 2 and the nvidia card in it too. ive been only able to test the machine playing some old school games like hitman 2 and max payne 2. im gonna install farcry soon and see how it runs on it.
in terms of screen size, hp made a smart move in not going down to 13 or 12 inch. this allows them to expand and focus their energies into faster 14 inch laptops. this thing is extremely easy to carry around. to the guy asking about the screen size: this screen size is more than enough, its just plain perfect. get it, you wont be disappointed.
gamers pick the dv5t, thats about it. if you want portability pick the dv4t its really up to you. the dv4t has a midrange class 3 graphics card whereas the dv5t has the highest class 2 graphics card you can get. class 1 being the highest. another reason why gamers pick the dv5t is because of the option to get a higher resolution screen, which is monstrously amazing looking, as well as, the option to get the 7200 rpm hard drive.
the dv5t is a monster gaming rig.
after removing the bloatware manually through uninstalling programs and using msconfig, the system runs smooth and fast. god i love this thing and its the best laptop ive ever had. -
what's the rest of your specs. do you have the 9200m gs?

Like I mentioned before, the Western Digital HD 250 gigs is holding at the temperature of 48C while browsing and listening to music. My graphic card which is nVidia 9200M GS holds at 56C when listening to music and browsing and when playing games or watching video goes up to 70C.
So whats your digits? -
the brightview infinity, fingerprint reader, and high capacity 6 cell are worth the money. buy them and you wont be disappointed.
-
im gonna get my temps soon i got the hitachi hard drive like everyone else, i got my hard drive working full throttle torrenting
-
Anyone already tested the graphic card (9200m gs) with games?
Just to have an idea of what I can expect ...
Thanks -
it has a mid-range graphics card so you can expect to play current games at medium settings no problem, and older games at full. ill check it out once i get some powerful stuff on this laptop
-
Played Call of Duty 4 without any problems..... -
my hard drive is at 51 degrees and gpu is at 61. i have a movie, music, and bit torrent running full blast
-
more ram causes less caching to the hard drive, so lower ram would be higher hard drive heat. 3 gigs ram is perfect.
i enabled advanced performance on my hard drive as well by going under device manager in vista. go into hard drive and turn it on right now.
This option enables extremely aggressive write caching, which can speed up drive access but also cause you to lose data if the power goes out suddenly.
But we should not have to worry about power outtages on a lap top
the fan is set to always on, but is inaudible.
i realize that a lot of people got the 64 bit version of vista, not sure why they did that because there aren't as many good updates out for 64 bit yet. so to get the most updated drivers and software get 32 bit. -
the default color settings for this laptop just plain suck. go under the nvidia control panel and play around.
brightness 40%
digital vibrance 55%
contrast 100%
gamma 40%
try that out. blacks are blacker colors are brighter. hope that helped. now go on with yo bad self. -
the max temperature on these penryn core 2 processors are 105 degrees, what is the max temp on these hitaches
-
I got 2gigs of Ram, so it might be true..... Need to test. -
i think reasons to choose 64 bit are
1. 4G of memory
2. OS can run smoother
3. 64 bit is more secured compare to 32 bit
at least these are reasons i choose 64 bit -
i would get the 64 bit version if i had that dv5t where performance would be increased significantly because of the greater memory support, 32 bit on this one because we are already limited in terms of performance. i wouldi rather have the increased compatibility. then again i dont have 4 gigs of ram so its rather useless to me.
hardware evolving faster than software :] -
Has anyone gotten the dv4t with the Intel integrated graphics? If so, what is battery life and performance for some games (such as can you play Call of Duty, Doom 3, etc at what fps)?
-

I have one on the way, just looking for more feedback on the heat from the hard drive.

If you will use the notebook for college, browsing internet and or basic business stuff, it will work great. However, if your primary option is to play hardcore games on it for hours than you should get a cooling pad. It doesn't only concern DV4T, this is also true about DV5T and all other laptops on the market.
When the person is gaming, it maxes out the settings on the notebook, which increases GPU temperature, Hard Drive Temperature and CPU. Therefore, playing games increases the stress on the machine thus the notebook might get damaged. So I really suggest that if you are a hardcore gamer, buy a cooling pad, its not expensive and very effective.
People who own desktop computers always have some kind of coolers installed since they play for hours and know the consequence.
Other then that, DV4T is an awesome laptop, and I recommend for others to buy it.
The hard drive heat is not as bad as we are all complaining. I figured a way how to keep the left side cooled down.... by removing the slide that holds a remote control or the case that just fills up that space on the left side on the notebook. Air comes in and out and its a bit cooler. Also I move the laptop closer to me, letting the notebook stick-out on my table so the vents on the bottom release heat from the laptop. -
i ordered the laptop with extended warranty on august 16th. the extended warranty has already been shipped and right now it says "departed Fedex location" at Olive Ranch, MS. and i live in cali. they should have had a status update already saying that it has arrived at cali already but they didn't. i don't know why it would take that long. do you guys usually receive the warranty package before getting the laptop?
-
Code9,
Thanks for the info, it's what I was hoping to hear. I'm not a huge game player but will have Tiger Woods and one or two others to keep me busy.
Good tip on the insert they put in the expresscard slot.

It runs alright, i dont have many games on it right now but CS:S(lowest setting for everything), in the video stress test at max resolution it got a average of 50 fps and in game on cs office i got around 20-30 fps average. the highest it ever got was probably 48 fps for like a second when no one was around lol.still very playable though.
Now about the hard drive, i got the hitachi, it does get pretty warm during regular use noting to worry about, but i cant see how hot it is, don't know why but it does get warm.I also hang the laptop on the edge of the table just make sure your 2 middle legs are on the table. The cpu usually stays around 38-42 during gaming i got a max temp of 64C (get a chill mat) but i think it averaged 58-62 fan in back gets really hot.
ill get a screen shot of temp soon :] hope this helps anyone -
With wifi off and speakers muted, while taking notes in class, for 1.5 hours, my HD hovered around 38-40c.

Hope that helps.
