    First two problems happened in one day, and I did the procedure and it didn't happen again.

    3 weeks later another problem occurred, similar to yours... and I did the procedure and it hasn't occurred as of yet. It actually happened to me like 2 days ago. So time will tell.

    you said the first two times you just reseated the battery and the problem went away? the third time you pressed the power button for 30sec after taking the battery out and the problem hasn't come back since? when you said 2 days ago, do you mean it was a fourth time or you mean the third time happened 2 days ago

    The first 2 problems is actually the same problem repeated twice in one day. I removed the battery without pressing the power button. So the black screen problem has NEVER happened to me since then.

    3 weeks later, I had a DIFFERENT problem. This time with the touchpad buttons. So I removed the battery and pressed power button for 15-30secs, and as of right now, it never came back.

    I don't know if it will repeat in future, but its already 2nd day and everything works fine.

    In regards to the crappy "QuickLaunch" buttons, HP techs say...

    I've re-installed the audio/QL drivers and restored to factory settings, so I guess I'll try the BIOS update when I get home and see how that goes...not very confident about it though.

    FYI, For the "mute" button you can restart the audio service to "fix", but the issue returns once you reboot so instead of shutting down I've been using "Hibernate". The WiFi I don't really worry about since it still works even when its stuck in red/off

    hi, i just bought this laptop a couple of days ago and i noticed something about the touch buttons on the silver panel...they basically don't work! the volume and wireless buttons work fine, the mute button takes a little effort but it also works, the play FF, FR, and stop buttons don't work at all! is this normal or is it just me?

    I think so far i'm the only one here not having any weird problems.
    I believe it might due to the fact that I reinstall vista the first day I get my Dv4t to have a fresh start. I then proceed to install all drivers from the swsetup folder along with QuickPlay and QPButtons but no Quick Touch (the on screen thingy).

    I got mine on the 25th and the machine works flawless for me.
    But thanks for the tips.

    Isn't somebody willing to write a (short) review about this notebook? Perhaps we have a serious rival here to the Dell E6400 and the Lenovo T600.

    By the way: How behaves the dv4t concerning heat, noise and battery longevity (with the high capacity 6 cell li-ion-battery)? Comparable with the two notebooks mentioned above? And sticks the high capacity battery out the box or is it flush with it?

    3.5 is the best that you can get out of that card as far as i know. updating the drivers won't help the score much

    I'm going to order a dv4t notebook, but I'd like to ask a question first :)
    What's the weight of the dv4t with LED display?

    I'm supposed to receive my dv4t next week, so I could write a review if no one else has. :D

    I was psyched about getting it as a replacement laptop from HP, but after reading through this topic (and a few others) and hearing about the weird problems people are having, I'm afraid it's going to turn out to be even worse than my dv2000t...

    Is overheating a problem with the dv4t like the dv5t?

    My mom is in grad school now to get her Master's and she is interested in an laptop. Of course I'm thinking HP would be the best place for her to get a nice looking all around solid laptop. She doesn't need a huge one and I think the dv4t or dv5t would be PERFECT for her.

    But it seems all I hear about the dv5t is the overheating issue so I'm wondering if the dv4t also has the same problem?

    How's the DV4t's GeForce 9200 GS for gaming?

    i want to be able to run Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 later down the line. i was considering the DV5t because of the better video card and higher resolution, but the heat issues and lack of LED back lit screen has me looking at the DV4t.

    i'm also going to do some HD video editing as well.

    Whos knows i was installing a game when i noticed it. But it could of been there for over a week, I did a Vista system restore all seems to be fine.

    This was a Vista problem not a DV4t problem i am sure.

    I have been installing some games to get frame rates and things like wprime. For the review.

    so I have 2 dv4ts right now one has a 250gb hitachi and the other has a 250gb fujitsu. the fujitsu is way cooler. Anyone know if I could get hp to send me a new hd as a replacement because my hitachi is super hot in comparison, I just got it as a replacement and I have a 2 year accidental warranty coverage as well.

    @ lookitsakyauk

    What you need is a software called QuickTouch. You should be able to find it inside swsetup folder.

    I personally hated that thing cuz it make my dv4t lags whenever it displays.

    For me the QuickTOuch software comes up when it feels like it. Some times I see it, other times its no where to be found....still waiting for HP to put out an updated BIOS or QuickLaunch drivers. Taking the batttery out and holding the power button for 15 sec. has done nothing for me

    go to notebook review's homepage and grab the $200 off coupon
    use it along with the $100 off from HP and get a total of $300 off.

    Note, your laptop must be 999+ in price in order to use the coupon.
    So you can obtain a $1000 dollars laptop for $700. What a steal.

    $1320 With coupon's and tax..

    Its been a week that I had the laptop it works GREAT!!!! Im loving everything, its so smooth, quick maybe the best laptop I have owned.. Again I dont usually game so that was not a issue for me picking this .. Although it has a gaming card from what i have read its nothing to brag about..

    I have had no problems, and the HP notebook didnt come with much BLOATWARE as expected.. I did buy the Targus Fan Cooler so I honestly have not felt the hotness that people claim.. Nor have I installed or check the temperature for it because it has not bothered me.. I used it also a few hours without the cooler and noticed a small increase in heat.

    One bad thing I did notice is that i have one dead pixel at the left side .. Its a real SMALL blue dot.. It only shows when there is a all black backround in anything, other then that it wont show..

    The lid at the top seems to be very sensitive to scratches if you ask me.. Maybe the laptop came with scratches when I opened it but its very hard to tell unless you really look into it since its kindy glossy.. Just wondering does the warranty cover a exchange for the one dead pixel you think(i know it has been brought up) and also for the scratches on the lid.. They are very small that I can live with it but sometimes things like that bother me..

    In overall I havent been off the laptop since I purchased it.. So that can tell you much.. The only negatives I mentioned were above.. Hopefully my small review helps someone out, and someone can help me out with my warranty questions.. I was thinking of purchasing one of the HP insurance plans but decided to opt out till I had more money to throw away.. Thanks..

    If I ordered the dv4z can I still post? Is there a separate thread?

    I ordered 9/7/08 (last Sunday). I'm really hoping it will ship Monday although it's scheduled for Tuesday. Total came out to $797 with tax, free shipping, and $100 off. I plan to throw in 4GB when I get some more money.

    * Webcam Only
    * ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics
    * FREE Upgrade to 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * HP Color Matching Keyboard
    * 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN
    * No Modem

    * 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    * Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    * SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    Specs are decent and the ATI Radeon HD 3200 is supposedly better than the X4500 that comes with the dv4t (Intel) systems. I'm not too worried about storage but I might decide to put in a WD Scorpio Black 320GB down the line as well.

    Hi guys

    Just a quick question. I noticed the keyboard has some 'smart' quotes enabled, like typing ' then a results in á. I don't think this is a feature of Vista, so I'm just curious which software powers this, and if it's customizable?

    I also noticed the 'Caps Lock' key doesn't deactivate with a second press, I need to press 'Shift' to switch it off. Again, can this be customized?

    Kind regards

    Jonty

    I have been using my DV4T for about 2 weeks now. I overall review would be positive....the screen does look a little washy but outputs perfect 1080p through hdmi. For the last couple of days I've been having a problem with my wireless adapter...it wont turn on. Touch button does not seem to work and i cannot enable the adapter through the control panel. Has anyone had similar problems?

    Hi everyone. I ordered an HP dv4t on 17 August.

    Configuration is:

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80GHz)
    - 14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    - FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS
    - 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - Webcam Only
    - HP Color Matching Keyboard
    - 802.11b/g WLAN and Bluetooth
    - No Integrated WWAN
    - Integrated 56K Modem
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

    The price is approximately $1140. That is good price i know. Because there is a discount on HP dv4t and dv5t. But i am concerning about the heat problem. If there is serious problem about the heat, i will cancel my order. Please help me.

    dv4t can support up to 8gb so that config should work
    dv4t should support any hard drive
    it doesn't support ddr3 ram
    9200m gs is ddr2 i believe

    if you use ddr2 1066 it will just downclock to 800 as far as i know

    by the way i learned that dv4t does not support ddr3 RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS has ddr2 RAM. and 7200rpm hard drive does not make a problem and if laptop has windows vista 64-bit installed, it supports up to 8GB RAM.

    but why it will just down clock to 800mhz. is this because of the maximum bus speed of the motherboard of the laptop.

    if the cpu has 1066mhz and ram has 800mhz, doesnt the ram keeps less data than the cpu's capacity. did anyone understand what i mean? :) i mean that is there a direct relation between the Mhz that cpu has and Mhz that ram has? if there is, since t9600 or t9400 has 1066Mhz, the laptop may support 1066Mhz ddr2 ram. please let me know if anyone has information about this. thank you.
