1) Anyone have side-by-side pics of LED vs. standard? Some of you mentioned getting both a dv5t and dv4t.
2) Anyone try OSX86?
3) Does the system come with a Vista disc or not? If not, is there any way to do a non-bloatware, fresh install?
While I have my own copy of Vista (Ultimate), I'd like to be able to move the included Home Premium to another machine and put my Ultimate copy on this one. Can I just use my Premium disc to install on both machines, but just use the two different keys?
-
Got my dv4z. I know this discussion is for the dv4t but I'm hoping I can get away with posting here. The laptop is wonderful.
@midiman:
It does not come with a Vista disc to reinstall the OS. However, you can order one from HP or create restore discs when you get your machine (you can only do this once). The laptop came with a bit of bloatware and was slow at first but after uninstalling, cleaning, and defragging the machine runs perfectly fine.
That said, doing a fresh install would require an install disc of some kind. As far as transferring licenses from one machine to another and not knowing what can get me into trouble I'm going to take a guess. The OEM license that comes with the machine cannot to be transferred from one machine to another. However, that won't stop you from actually using that key on another machine. It's just not suppose to be done.
Retail copies are a little bit different as I think they offer a bit more freedom but it doesn't apply to you. Microsoft licensing gets kind of confusing. I'm not sure if this information is correct. -
I ordered a vga to svideo out cable through monoprice and cant seem to get video output onto my tv from my dv4t. I just get this staticy picture. Anyone have any ideas on what to do to fix this? Thanks.

HEY DV4T OWNERS!!!!!!!!!
your laptops still working!?!?!?!??
im close to clicking "submit" on purchasing the DV4T and it would be interesting to know how your liking your laptop at this point.
so it doesnt have an nVIDIA 9600M and theres some problems with a few as i see. so its goes.
overall though
think its a good purchase up against the DV5T?
honestly
it be good to see more of your posts -
heh...
-
14.1" - something about this size. its perfect. not too small but great for carrying around -
Heat has not been a problem for me. The only issue with this computer has been the pain in the butt quick launch keys which seem to be a consistent problem for everyone, but are more of a bother then a real problem. I gotta figure HP will come out with a driver fix for that sooner or later.
I am very happy with the computer overall, and everyone here seems to be happy as well, with the exception of the stupid quick launch keys. -
does DV4t comes with Nvidia Hybrid Power?
-
Has anyone had issures with their dvd drives (non-lightscribe)??
I tried creating recovery DVDs and 3 times in a row it created the disc, but then failed to verify, then it burned disc 1 fine(once I switched DVD brands), but again gave me trouble with disc 2 until I closed everything down and then restarted the recovery-disc creator...
and on an aesthetic note, why does the entire side of the notebook have to come out, the edge keeps catching on things, ughhhh... -
I am being entirely serious, but without me calling hp, does the accident protection cover being run over by a vehicle...
I had a toshiba and well it no longer works, ; )
...so I am trying hp despite much grumbling by friends and co-workers with regards to hp products (though I got significantly newer tech with hp then I would have with a dell 14") -
sorry for 3 posts in a row, but I work the late shift and no one else seems to be up around this time (Alaska standard)...
I ran a benchmark program on my laptop
[CrystalMark 2004R3 [0.9.126.451]] and got this info on my CPU:
---------Current / Original
Clock : 2135.40 MHz /1800.00 MHz
System Clock : 251.22 MHz / 200.00 MHz
System Bus : 1004.90 MHz / 800.00 MHz
Multiplier : 8.50 / 9.00
Data Rate : QDR
Over Clock : 18.63 %
Is it common for laptops to come with factory overclocked cpus, because I paid for a 2.26 processor and got a 2.14 and it was overclocked from a 1.8 processor, am I reading these results right, and if so whats the deal?!!
Should I call hp on this or is it common, cause..., man I feel cheated.
On a cool note looking at the OGL portion of this benchmark software, I got 22k with my discrete 256mb, while my girlfriend got 900 running a toshiba with an integrated intel x3100, kind of what I was expecting upgrading to an actual video card! and her t series processor runs 3 times hotter (even though her fan is much more behaved than mine) -
so I have been asking questions about my dv4t on the forum and then blam... my touchpad stops working (or at least my wireless button)
I can toggle the wireless button and it will switch between "connected" and "not connected" BUT the light stays orange and despite what the screen says I cannot connect........ so I am using my girlfriends toshiba and wondering why I bought an HP. ****! -
didn't work for myself though....i only have problems with the mute button, it "fixes" itself when i restart the audio service so i've gotten used to doing that and dealing with it -
hi everyone. i received my dv4t today. and tested the cpu temperature. the tempurature of cpu is around 50, and the fan is always running and i think that the noise of the fan is a little bit annoying. is the cpu temperature normal? if it is not normal what can i do? if there is nothink i can do, i will return it back, thank you.

Hello everybody!
New here, writing from Australia!
1) You guys are lucky, we can't customize our HP notebooks here! :-( (and costs much more over here of course)
I am looking to by a DV4-1041tx, but cant make up my mind, due to the dual responses from people.
a) Is the fan and overheating issue really that bad(will the overheating eventually reduce the life of the notebook? or is it just the noise)
b) Has anybody heard about a newer range of HP notebooks to be released in the U.S, any idea about the timing? ( http://h50025.www5.hp.com/ENP5/Public/Content.aspx?contentID=25373&portalID=364&pageID=1) -
online chat with HP, updated bios, intel driver and quick launch drivers... nothing, still no wireless button
Why are buttons so hard, apparently the touch thing isn't working out..
also tried removing battery, but nothing.. -
HEY DV4T OWNERS! Have you seen the changes HP made for options? "512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS" as a graphics card option? Whats up with this card as opposed to the 256MB that listed previously? I thought it might be a typo! ha but seriously - I wonder how it would stand up to the DV5T's 9600M. The price went down but they "evened" it out so it seems with upping the OS if im correct. But what do you guys think?
-
I got a $50 credit for a dv4t. I had used a $500 coupon, and i pushed for the fact that they changed the processor and don't even offer the 2.53 ghz option which is worrysome. The graphics card is now 512 instead of 256. Now they offer a 12cell battery. I complained about all the changes. I placed my order September 15th, and received my laptop Monday, Sept 29th. The lady looked at the price before the coupon on my order, and the price after the 100 rebate when she tried to configure it.
Call (888) 999-4747 -
Crap...they've offering better options now, lower price...and their another HP model out in 13.3 inch size....that's really what i wanted but then my only other option was the Dell XPS M1330...i should have waited, lol...doubt the QuickLaunch issue is fixed
-
I would return the laptop but I can't wait for another $500 coupon. The only other computer I have is a 7 year old Thinkpad with windows2k! =)
-
I didnt call that # but will tomorrow and see if changes.. Gave your points and other pieces of my minds to the reps.. I went threw 4 till I got the "21" days B/S so I cant send my laptop back and they did not even ofter a credit.. Do you think I should at least ask for one or they will give me the "21" question crap..
Anyone know when these features were added if it was before Sep 21 ?
Because I would look every few days to this thread to see if I get any insight and till today I hear about the new features.. Hope somebody can help..
All the quick launch issues arent really a issue.. You just need to restart your computer.. Maybe you muted it and by default sometimes it keeps some sounds muted..A bug i guess but only if you mute your notebook..
Also with more days into it no bugs for me yet.. Does wireless N on a notebook make much difference or faster? Because they added that also, i ask because I dont know much about notebooks but doesnt mean im a dunce..
Would appreciate the help.. Since I was also going to buy a N router and wondered if it would be compatible with my DV4T..
Thanks.. -
With wireless N you should get much better range than with b/g. It is faster on paper, but I did not see much difference as I have older gear in the chain.
-
Is it possible to get the 64 bit Vista premium recovery discs if I have 32 bit installed? I clicked 32 bit by accident. The price has actually increased since I bought it. I have not received the computer yet, it is still in fed ex hands. Thanks.

I've had my dv4t for almost a month now, and so far I'm impressed. It's quiet, fairly cool (MUCH cooler than my old dv2000t), fast, and pretty stylish too.
I haven't had any problems at all with it, besides the issues discussed here - the QL buttons not working, and the battery showing as almost-empty. It seems like the QL buttons stop working randomly; they'll be working fine one minute, I'll set it down on my table, and 5 minutes later the wireless light will be orange, and the rest of the buttons will be non-functional. Last night I was on battery power (fully charged) when my screen suddenly shut off and the charging light started blinking, although the system itself was still on. I had to manually power it off. In both cases, removing the battery and holding the power button down for around 20 seconds fixed the problem. It's still annoying though. I wonder if HP intends to fix this problem (or if they can, at all)? -
Hello,
I purchased a dv4t on the 19th of September using a US$ 500 coupon. Of course, it came with a GeForce 9200 M. Also I ordered an # Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz) processor.
Now I see that they have upgraded the video card to a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS.
I really am upset over this. My question is... how can I make them change the card (the 21 days haven't elapsed) but at the same time keep my processor??
And also, will this cost me much??
Thanks. -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
The vRAM shouldnt really make significant difference.
Coupled with your CPU, you should'nt see any performance improvement over the other..
But if you still want to do it, just return it as "not satisfied" get full refund, order another new one.. just to rid yourself of the potential buyer's remorse you're experiencing over the upgrade of vRAM.. -
Sonoritygenius...
Thanks for the prompt reply. I like to play games and hope to keep this laptop for some years (three at the minimum) so I would like to have the best video processor that I can so that it has longevity. Are you sure it won't make much difference??
Thanks. -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
It will be difference sure, the cache size - but not signficant enough.
for a gamer as yourself on a 14" laptop, you cannot expect serious gaming capabilities..
You're well within your 21 day No Q asked return policy, since you're having pre-remorse of purchase, just state unsatisfied to them and get a RMA# and recieve full refund and just order a brand new one with the config you want.. -
Ok. Thanks again.
-
Ummm... Just one more thing. If I do decide to exchange it, I guess that my CPU will come down from the current 2.53 MHz to the 2.4 MHz they are offering now. Is this correct?
Furthermore, is it possible to change the video card in the future?
Thanks. -
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
Yes 2.4ghz is now the highest configurable cPU.. that sucks..
No you cannot upgrade your video card in the future.. -
Thank you very much Sonority for your help. Since it IS the same card with only more vRAM and I would lose the 2.53 MHz, I think the hassle is too high a price to pay for no real advantage.

With people having issues with the orange wireless and not being able to connect.. Try going to your Control Panel or "Windows Mobility Center" and turn on the wireless Network.. Chances are its off.

There isn't much Windows XP talk here. Have any people tried to dv5z instructions to install XP on their dv4t?
I can't seem to burn a dvd all the way, it's like it cuts off in the middle. I'm burning a disc image (iso). Anybody else have any problems with this? I'm using ImgBurn -
hi, I got mine today
t8400 2.33
3gb ram
256 nvidia gpu
250gb hdd
harddisk is getting hot and the fan is always on??? isn't it weird? -
hey did anybody update to the latest f12 bios yet? does it fix the fan speed where it spins faster when coming out of standby?
-
Just thought I would let everyone know that I am having some problems with my Dv4.
Occasionaly half or all of my screen will turn solid blue... it will go away if I physically move the screen around. I believe it has a loose / faulty connection.
I don't have time to send it off to service until May or when it totally breaks and I am forced to buy a new laptop. -
-
Hi everyone,
Does anybody have any problems with their NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS video card? I've got HP dv4t with this video card and when using NVIDIA drivers either from hp.com or laptopvideo2go.com Windows (Vista x64) crashes (BSOD). Usually it happens when I start something video graphics intensive or if I ran something that requires an UAC.
It seems like a defective GPU to me.
Any ideas? -
Has anyone confirmed that the 512MB version of the Nvidia 9200M GS actually exists?
thanks

How to detect what battery in my dv4t?
Original 6-cell or high-capacity 6-cell? -
Hey ... wanna ask,
is this laptop able to support for dual monitor?
Something like my mouse point can move from laptop screen to my lcd screen ? -
it will mirror and it will dual screen -
um....what happens when the hard drive light turns orange when i pick up the laptop?! my box says it has hard drive protection...but....??
addiationly, how is the build quality compared to a dv2000? -
What is the speaker quality like compared to notebooks from other manufacturers (e.g Dell (XPS), Inspiron 15, Apple Mac, Toshiba, Sony etc). I think the dv4t's is suppose to be better as its Altec Lansing, Is this true?
-
I'm deciding on purchasing the dv4t and have read this entire thread.
So besides the heat problem on the left palm rest and the graphics card occasionally causing a blackout on the screen, is this notebook worth the buy?
Owners feel free to give me your opinions for they will help me out on deciding if it's worth purchasing. Thanks!
