Well, if you're going to use it that long I think you would do well to get the AGN card. N will become the standard in a year or two probably as it's superior to the G-band, so it'll be good to already support it. It's a $25 upgrade, ya? Might as well, IMO.

You can only use the N-band if you have a wireless-N router. It will have no effect on the G connection. Now, the actual wireless card might be more powerful than the standard b/g card, but that has to do with the actual card itself, not the fact that it supports the N-band. Hope that helps.

some versions of the bios for my previous hp lap was originally created to reject winXP by not allowing it support to the motherboard ACPI. once enough of us yelled, this changed.

the audio drivers load and produce no error messages in device manager, but there's no sound. this may be some sort of power-saving-gone-awry situation.

just an update on the winxp front. i think i was trying the wrong version of the IDT audio drivers. and if someone else is going to do the upgrade to xp, beware the F6 install - the standard intel drivers do NOT to support the text mode even if they work when slipstreamed. there's a modded set somewhere on the net by a guy called fernando that DOES work - the only one - i tried a bunch.

now everything else seems to work, but the ir-remote is not doing anything, and i can't get bluetooth to talk to oxygen phone manager, even though other bt functions appear to be working normally. anyone got IR working on xp?

There is no way to adjust the fan speed, well, save for a very long and complicated method that I don't even want to think about... lol.

For all intents and purposes, no, there is no way...

You can turn it off I believe in the bios, at least so that it will only run when it's needed... check your BIOS settings there should be an on/off switch for the fan there.

hi friends....I am new here.....this is my 1st post....
I got my hp dv4t around 10 days back....its fine with me except one fact....could you help me out here......

I find that the webcam is covered with a lid kind of thing....with hp webcam written on it(it is the same as i saw in most of the pics posted here)....but yesterday, when i tried to take off the protective transparent plastic sticker from it so as to get better captures....the lid came off along with it....and i found to my dismay that it was just glued to the socket......is it the same with you guys....or is it an issue....should i get it changed..??? I am wondering....please help me out.....is it a defect? will the lid fall off in case the glue dries up???

Okay, i just got my dv4t.

It was my belief that the laptop came with a hard drive bay that you could replace the dvd drive with. However, it did not come with one. Can someone tell me where I can get this?

I believe that transparent cover that you removed is the outer covering of the webcam. It does look like a little piece of protective plastic that you can remove, but apparently, it is attached to the thicker plastic plate that protects the webcam using sticker like adhesive. I suggest you get one of those thin double sided adhesive from 3M (not the double stick tape as they are too thick) and just put it back. It doesn't damage the webcam in anyway. Since it is sticker adhesive, it will take a very long time to dry and is repositionable. I don't think there is much worry here unless you warp the piece of plastic covering the webcam.

    Cheers,

I thought it had one too but I could not see it anywhere on the HP website. It is not in any of the DV4T laptop configuration. Your best bet is to call HP sales and ask them about it. Since the DVD drive is removable, I can't imagine if they don't have a hard drive caddy for the DVD slot.

    Cheers,

    Integrated TV Tuner:

Would anyone with this feature please tell me how well it works. I do alot of traveling and sitting in airports and would love to watch HD live television. Is there an antennae that must be hooked up as well?

Also, if I will primarily be using this for bluray, HD tv, and hd streaming of abc, nbc,. ect, is the go150 graphic card a much better option than the integrated 4500hd

I tried F.30 HP incorporated the said fixes but no fixes for fan noise when connected to AC power even if we are using CPU at 0%. sevipal do u experience increased in fan speed when connected to AC power creating undue noise from fan?

I think only solution to fan noise would be hp should modified bios to control fan speed and should wisely spin the fan at full speed when required at high cpu usage not at zero CPU usage. I sent my laptop to hp service center for the same but they say it is pretty normal as sensors detect the temperature and then fan speed increase.

i do not know what to do with these hp guys cant understand fan noise definition?

I just got my dv4t in yesterday, and I love it! It's fast, cool (temp wise...), quiet, snappy, well built, light, small (but not too small). The mouse is the only thing that I don't like because it has a slight delay when you move the mouse, and this makes me "overshoot" things I want to click on. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but the mouse just isn't as responsive as the one on the dv5z.

I took notes in class for 50 minutes earlier today. I use OneNote and record the professsor's voice while I type. The screen turned off several times because there were sections of time when I didn't need to type anything. When I got done taking notes, I had only used 9% percent of the battery. I couldn't believe it. At that rate... I would get 8.8 hours of battery taking notes. I think realistically I would get closer to 7.5-8 hours because I have wifi and bluetooth off, plus the screen isn't on all the time.

I played through Crysis Warhead on it this afternoon. The game ran okay at 1280x800, but I to get really smooth gameplay until I went down to 900x600 and eventually to 800x480, but even with those resolutions, the game still looked great and played with very minimal choppiness.

All in all, I couldn't recommend the dv4t more. :) I want to post a more complete review later when I have time, but this'll probably be all I get to for a while. :)

Quadron Could you please post pictures of your laptop. I'm really pushing towards the white but I have yet to find a decent sized picture of the beast.

For the sake of future upgrading of the processor, can the Tprocessors ever upgrade to a P processor??? Or can you only upgrade the T processors to T processors?

I'm trying to think ahead, right now i'm just purchasing the bare essentials and will just upgrade someday, if ever.

prefer going for a P-Processor. I feel T processors heat up a lot more then P processors and not worth the extra power they can give you.
    Just my opinion

Well I have finally completely made the transaction of moving form my dv5t to my new dv4t. I upgraded it with a corsair 128gb ssd and removed the optical drive for a 500gb 5400rpm hard drive.

First things- The t9550 idles very low (21-30 degrees Celsius) with my cheap notebook cooler. That's lower then my p8600 in the dv5t on the same cheap cooler.

Second, the dv4t ram and hard drive "mechanics" (the way they are installed) are much more pain in the a s s then the dv5t. With the dv5t, replacing the ram and hard drive was very easy. With the dv4t, i thought i was breaking the ram and hard drive. Whoever designed them needs to be shot. *Note*, the hard drive caddy that replaces the optical drive is fully functional. It only cost $69 (that includes shipping).

Third- the led display is very different then any other monitor i have ever used. VERY bright. Funny thing, whenever i go back to a regular monitor, i always attempt to increase the brightness because I think it's dimmed down when actually it is not (just because I am now used to the very bright led monitor).

Now I am in need of some help. There are 2 devices in Device Manager i need to find drivers for. One is the intergrated tv tuner and the other one is a mystery for me. (i use x64 vista) Look at the images below plz.

Wow those temps are low! I can't believe my eyes. Your HD is at 25???? The lowest I've seen on a DV4 for the HD is 46C.

When I did a fresh install I ended up with a couple of unknown hardware devices, what I did was go through the HP driver page and cross-checked the hardware I had with the drivers they had.... I think I was missing the modem drivers and the SD card reader, which is probably the multimedia device you're missing. That's probably the only way you're going to know...

Man, I can't get over those temps.... lol. Those are TOO low. Did you just boot up or something? I honestly don't believe my eyes.... lol.

Glad to see that HD caddy worked out for you! :D

i found my drivers. HP are idiots :p

There are like 4 different dv4t models. When I went to download my drivers, i picked the newest model; however, the list for the newest model does not have the tv tuner driver or the hard drive smart driver. I had to pick a different dv4t model to download these drivers.

EDIT: i would also like to mention I don't have any cpu whine that I had with the dv5t.

I have a DV4T-1000 that I bought last Black Friday. The fan noise seems to have gotten worse over time. I have a T5800 CPU. Compared to the Lenovo Y530 I just bought and my HP Compaq 6910p, my DV4T is 10 times louder.

The design of the laptop seems to restrict airflow regardless of what surface it is on. Also, the screen gets in the way of the exhaust vent. Poor design IMO. Overheating has become an issue with my laptop, so I am sending it in for service. I think either the fan or heat pipe could be defective.

I'm not trying to crap up the thread, I'm just being honest. Perhaps there was a bad batch of DV4T's produced. Some people are claiming their fan is not noisy at all.

    my bios says F.31

The fans do speed up when I boot the laptop, but it only lasts for 2 seconds, it doesn't bother me at all.

Other then that it is very quiet. I can still hear the fans, but it is nothing compared to my desktop.

I have tried all the bios versions, I am using F.30 right now.

I also cleaned the fan duct using compressed air. A new bios will not change the fact that the fan is mechanically noisy.

The fans do speed up for games, but not as high as when it first boots up.

+1 rep for bios news, It would have been weeks before I would have checked for any updates.
