    Hey guys,

I trying to get my dv4t to perform at its best for gaming, so I'm trying to overclock the gpu with rivatuner, but rivatuner doesn't seem to be working because it says that I've raised the clocks, but I got 10 points less when I reran 3d mark 06.

What drier should I use to overclock my gpu? I think that's probably the issue. Any of you guys overclocking? What driver have you guys been using?

Sorry for the double post, but I didn't plan on posting twice and the topics were entirely unrelated...

Nope, no problem with fan noise whatsoever. You can't hear that the laptop is on unless you are running crysis on it or some other intensive thing.

I actually made a YouTube video of my unboxing of my dv4t. I have some good close up shots of the laptop and its design in the unboxing. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_pYZDmq4Uk

Quadron, how are your temps? Can you post a HWmonitor screenie?
Also, how's the left palmrest? Did HP finally figure out how to stop the hard drives from overheating?

My questions pertain to typical usage (net/music) after a few hours or so....

Thanks man! Btw, great video and sick setup! +rep on the vid!

My laptop is still so loud, i haven't heared someone else with the same problem,(since i turn it on the fan is at a really high speed until i turn it off). I would like to try a BIOS update but, las time it didn't went so well, my laptop got blank screen, so i had to send it back to U.S.A for warranty. If anybody knows why this happened n can advice me i would preciate it. My laptp is a dv4-1125nr(vista 64 bits, 4gb ram, and 2.0GHz intel processor)

    Driver: 185.85
    OC software: Zotac Firestorm
OC: 740 core (could probably go higher), 600 memory (haven't tested anything higher then 600), 1800 shader (got artifacts at 2000)

@ 740/600/1800 it is completely stable/artifact-free in dow2 and demigod.

    Hey Darth Bane,

I've spent the last 30 minutes looking for a Windows Vista 64-bit forceware version of those drivers.

And when I downloaded Zotac Firestorm (I downloaded the "VGA" one form their downloads page...), it gave me an error saying that I needed to have a Zotac graphics card already installed.

    Any thoughts?

Quadron problem with my dv4 1242 tx is that when i connect to AC main after some time when laptop gets little heated but not done any graphics or CPU intensive work fan spins at full speed creating noise. Fan continues to spin at full speed when battery charge reaches upto 90%. Then after that even if i play games or do cpu intensive work speed of fan do not increases...That pretty weird or it is perfectly normal. On battery fan do not creates noise its only on AC power that fan creates noise.

Also is it becoz of Tseries processor(having T6400) that creates fan noise?

I need some solution for it..Any solution????

    Drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_185.85_whql.html

You need to hold the "shift" key when clicking okay.
After that, go to options and set the options to restore oc when windows starts. Every time you start windows, it will give you the same message, but you don't need to hold the shift key (unless you want to change the oc).

It may not seem like the most elegant way of doing things, but it's the only software that works for me.

    Darth,

What's your PC Mark 06 score with that config? How much of a difference have you noticed while gaming? Any specific stats? Like 45 FPS before in HL2 and 54 FPS after overclock...Thanks!

    Ace_Neo,

It's normal for your laptop to be a little warmer while it's charging the battery. Mine always has been, but mine doesn't get warm enough to turn the fans on full blast. If the fans are running full blast, that might be something to look into, but if they are just running kind of medium speed, then I wouldn't worry about it.

You might want to consider propping your laptop up on something to give it a little better air circulation underneath it whenever its hot. It'll make it so that it cools off quicker and stays cooler easier. Sometimes it can be easy to forget not to block the fan, especially if its on your lap, but it's best to avoid that because it makes the laptop build heat much quicker. Hope that helps...

Looking hard at the DV4T. Question. Can you record from the TV tuner to the hard drive with the supplied software? Also will it receive and record HD, if the hard drive is large enough?
    Thanks

Got the solution for the loud fan that never stops. In my case was a screw.
The one which hold the keyboard from under the lapto. There are three screws, is the one just next to the fan.

lol if there was a smart bay battery. It would be the coolest thing ever, but there isn't one.

You can only replace it with the empty bay that came with the laptop or with the extra hard drive.

I may be showing my age on the bay battery idea one of two ways: either it is a very old idea that isn't around any longer, or I am so alzheimers-ish that I made the whole idea up.

    greetings all!

i've been looking very hard at this laptop for 2 weeks now. been playing with it at various retail stores and i absolutely love it. i just have one minor issue with it. is there a way to get an optical (toslink) plugged into it for my home audio system? i saw the xb4 docking system, but ive read bad reviews about it and the dock only has an RCA digital out, not a toslink. most gateway, toshiba and asus laptops have a shared 3.5 plug that works with a mini-toslink. im wondering if the dv4t or dv4tse has the same.

maybe u can use the HDMI port, or maybe with the tv tuner stuff get an audio out. or just plug the head phones jack into the AUK in for your audio system.

Hi everyone, just ordered a new DV4T, will arrive in about a week and a half. It's primarilly for my g/f who is a FA, so I really like the versatility of this laptop. I have read most of the posts since early March of this year and I have a couple of questions:

    * Has the hard drive temperature problem been solved in later builds?

    * Where is a good source for the hard drive caddy for a White DV4T (besides HP)? The previous links had versions for Onxy and Bronze units.

Thanks in advance, my configuration is below:

HP Pavilion Entertainment dv4t customizable Notebook PC
    • Moonlight White
    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
    • 4GB DDR2 System Memory
    • 500GB Hard Drive
    • 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
    • HP LED BrightView Widescreen
    • Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    • Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    • Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
    • HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
    • High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • 12 cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • Integrated 56K Modem

Came to $1270 and some change with the current Memorial Day Sale and an Employee discount. Estimated build date: June 7

p.s. Excellent YouTube video Quadron - I came across it when I was trying to decide amongst the DV2T, DV3T and DV4T and then eventually found this forum

Those will work just the same. Unless the sides of the white dv4t are also purely white, you will not be able to tell the difference.

Congratulation on your purchase. The hard drive temperature being a little bit on the warm side is a problem with most laptop. The DV4T I got two months ago also has a very hot running hard drive. I swapped it out for a cooler running SSD but it got just as hot for some strange reason. I'm guessing there is not too much airflow in and around it to cool it down efficiently. I now use a cooler pad that sits comfortably between me and the laptop; and heat is never an issue for me again.

Note that even if the hard drive runs cooler, other area of the laptop may heat up; so I recommend a cheap $10 cooler.

I also have a Lenovo Thinkpad X200s and there is good airflow around the area where the hard drive resides; so much that it doesn't even get warm there after hours of use. When playing games, I get 60fps on the HP while I'm barely cracking 20 on the X200s... so there are trade offs.

    Cheers,
    Gnimble

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at selling my dv4t. I absolutely love it, except that I am really starting to get into gaming and I need a better graphics processor (I got a dv5t with a 9600 GT off ebay), so I'm going to sell this one.

The dv4t is in perfect, brand new condition still. I've used it for a little over three weeks. I got an amazing deal on it, so I am willing to sell it at a big discount compared to the retail price.

I'm asking $999. The price for the configuration when I bought it was $1409. I got it with all the bells and whistles (except for the best possible processor, even though I did get a good processor). Here are the specs:

    - HP Pavilion dv4t Entertainment PC
    - Moonlight White
    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
    - 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)!
    - 500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
    - 14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800)
    - Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    - [For LED Display] Webcam Only
    - Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
    - HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
    - HP Color Matching Keyboard
    - 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - No Modem
    - Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    - HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

I'm going to make a post in the market place area, but I thought I would also let you guys who are looking through this thread know about it too. I'll post a link to the post in the marketplace when I make it later tonight.

    Thanks!

Just got another $166 off my price. Found a post that said Microsoft Live has a 25% cash back until end of May on HP's (May 31). It does not stack on rebates. I had to call HP Customer Service (which happened to be in the Philippines) to get it. I think the lowest price for now is to buy while the Memorial Day Sale is on (until May 30) so you get the free RAM and Hard drive upgrade. Between my g/f's Airline discount, the free upgrades and now this credit issued, got the DV4t for a really good price.

Recently I have been having some charging issues with my laptop. It charges some times, and just stop charging at other times.

Today, I had the laptop on for about 6 hours charging (using AC Power)...and after switching rooms (plugging it out and back into a different socket plug in the other room) it just doesn't charge. (What I mean is the white LED by the adapter socket (on the laptop) is not lit when I plug in the adapter.

When I fiddle with the adapter cables nothing happens I don't see the light flicker, and I know electricity is going into the adapter, because when I fiddle with the 3 prong cable (from the AC socket) I can hear the sparks of electricity (Which indicate electricity is flowing - not a faulty adapter).

I am not sure whether the problem is my power adapter, my charger socket (located on the right side of the the laptop), or the battery.

If anyone experiences similar problems or has any solutions to my problem can you please post it.

    Thanks.

    More Info
Got the laptop (HP DV4T) in November 2008.
Had no problems with it .
All of a sudden (since last week) this problem pops out of nowhere.

    SlipSlyden,

If I am not mistaken are you saying that after you already ordered your laptop, you called in and retroactively had live cashback added to your order?

That is basically the boat I am in....I just heard of this cashback deal (MS says its offering 5% atm) and I am wondering if I can call HP and get them to apply the $800 I spent on the laptop to the cashback program. Ordered on May 19th.

What do you guys think? I could sure use the $40!

    Azz,

Yep, that is exactly what I did. They issued a credit to my credit card. I asked to speak to a Manager in customer service and reminded her that HP gives you 21 days to return a product purchased online and that I expected price protection within this period. I was nice, but persistent - either issue the credit or back the unit goes to HP, with a letter, her name, etc. I usually have better luck with the foreign based customer service call centers then the US (just call at odd hours and you will get a non US center). The Customer Service Managers have considerable latitude to make adjustments.

Good work slip! I foresee HP telling me that this is a Microsoft problem and not theirs - as in HP is not responsible for giving credit for a MS program. Think this will be an issue? I am going to call very soon. Thanks again!

Hey guys. I just registered here but I've been reading the thread for a month or two now. And recently got my hands on a DV4T, thanks to all your information. My situation is unique, I currently have in my possession two DV4Ts. The kicker is that one is a 3000 model, and the other is a 4000 model.

Fan Noise, the point of my post. The 3000 at it's slowest fan speed is quieter than the 4000 at it's slowest. But from there it all changes. Once you get past the slowest fan settings, the 4000 is quieter than the 3000. The 4000 is also consistently a lower range of sound than the higher pitch 3000's sound.

I'm thinking the great difference in fan noise, might be linked to which version of the DV4T a person owns. There's a total of 4 general versions, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000. Also, the 4000 has a matte keyboard, whereas the 3000 has a glossy one that I much dislike. That was a very nice surprise on the 4000.

Okay, that's my contribution to this giant thread. Hope it helps some. And for the record, here's the specs of the two DV4Ts

OK, here is one of I am sure many dumb "newbie" questions - other than the keyboard gloss test (which can be subjective, especially if you do not have both series side by side) how do you tell if you have a 3000 series versus a 4000 series? I don't have my laptop yet so flipping it over and see what the stickers say is not an option. I am also assuming that the 4000 model is currently shipping from HP, and that retailers, resellers may have stock of both. Is that correct?

    Azz,

They tried that argument with me, but I tactically "nuked" them with HPs own website:

    http://shopping.hp.com/shopping/html/popup/msnlive?aoid=35252

The HP Customer Service rep who first picked up the call asked how I would document to them that such a promotion existed - that's when I asked for a Manager. I explained this was a joint promotional effort between Microsoft and HP. I told the CSR Manager that it's their web site promotion - it should not require any other external proof, and that I wanted my credit or I would cancel the order and would wait for the next sale. Remember, it ends tomorrow, so if you want the best negotiation position ask for a credit before it expires and gently remind them you have 21 days to return your computer.

the t9550 also has double the cache (6mb vs 3mb)

Which one is better? i doubt you will be able to tell the difference unless doing something cpu-intensive.
