Pros:
Uses less power
Will not fade over time like an LCD will

I've been tracking the DV4 for about 3-4 months now, and right now, is the best price it's been at.
The following system was configured for $854. The previous low on my configuration was about $810, but that was with the P8600 CPU, not the P8700, which was previously a $75 upgrade.
As you can see, it basically has all the options ticked, sans the 105m GPU which if you don't game, really is nothing more than a detriment to the system than anything.
Basically, my point is, if you've been wanting to buy a DV4, the current price is better than it's ever been...
* Espresso Black
* Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
* Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
* 50% OFF!! 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
* 500GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
* 14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800)
* LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
* [For LED Display] Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
* Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
* No TV Tuner w/remote control
* HP Color Matching Keyboard
* HP Long Life Battery
* Integrated 56K Modem
* Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
* HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Just got my new dv4t after 10 hrs on the phone with tech support about the 1st one I ordered. However my fan is very very loud, kicks in often and the laptop is hot.
Any pointers? Is this something that can be easily fixed?
thanks in advance -
-
i just ordered my laptop yesterday so that means i got the new model right?
-
-
do you know any good carrying cases for the dv4t?
-
uhh.that my friend i dont. i brought a zip up sleeve from Targus for my Dv4..fits perfectly in it and will protect it again scratches..im going to be carrying it around in my book bag so thats going to be my carrying case for it really. when its in the sleeve it looks like a zip up binder..thats how small it is
-
Anyone with an older dv4t, about one year old, have any cracks in the plastic around/near the mouse pad?
-
ohh dang u got cracks already??? you should try to post outside this thread
-
I bought the laptop about 10 months ago. I have three main cracks. one from the mouse pad to the mouse pad status LED and it continues to the keyboard. Another from the mouse pad to the mouse pad button (where you can turn on or off the mouse pad) and it continues to the keyboard, and the third is from the mouse pad down to the right click button. They happened in that order too. The first happened probably almost four months ago, the last in the last week or so. HP says that it isn't covered under warranty. I use the laptop a lot, carry it around a lot but I didn't think I should get cracks in less than one year. I previously had an HP NC6000 for almost 5 years before the motherboard fried, it was built much better than the DV4T. After 5 years it formed a small crack on the right side between the wrist rest and the keyboard because I always carried from that corner, putting a lot of stress on it. But these cracks should not have happened already. I honestly wish I had my NC6000 back.
-
(both hands on body not one hand on screen the other on body like i use to). i use to pick it up by one side only..one handed but now after hearing stories of cracks from doing so ill deffinitly b more careful when carrying it around. especially when i have the 12 cell battery attached since it adds much more strain to the right side of the notebook since it doesnt span the length of the notebook -
do you guys think overclocking is okay for the dv4? i don't really know much about overclocking, but i thought it would be neat... :S
-
For those who had the standard delivery, how long did it actually take for delivery from China? Also, where are you located?
-
]. Mine's still in production, but I am expecting it to ship aaany time now... ^^

whats the best cooler for the dv4t. (my laptop is a lot of the time in the bed, so it gets very hot)

Some nice tips in there. -
Thanks -
uh well depends what u will be doing i think u should go with the nvidia graphic card, you dont really need the recovery disk u can order that at any time not only that u can get it for free if u know where to look
-
why almost anyone has the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9550??? do u guys dont recommend it?? I always like to have the best configuration i can get in a laptop, is it good to get the T9550 processor?
and also.... im from mexico, if i buy the dv4t with the hdtv tuner, will it work internationally?? (in mexico??) How does it work? -
well the t processor requires for more power usage thus u have less hrs on ur laptop do some more reading
-
T processors tend to use more power and create more heat. when i was configuring my DV4t i almost got the T9550 processor but decided not to at the last second. once i learned that the P8700 creates less heat i was that much more relieved by my choice. besides the heat and power issues its also $100 more for about 13 more mhz going from the P8700 2.53 to the T9550 2.66ghz..to me that is truely a rip off
-
But it also has 6mb l2 cache (i dont really know if thats a big difference...), when i buy electronics i want future proof and things that will last me 4 or 5 years, to be able to run programs and stuff with decent speed 5 years from now, so i always think like getting the best possible configuration, if im going to invest some money, do it good, go high, get the best...
and does it really creates a lot more heat?? does it feel a lot more hot?
and also.... im from mexico, if i buy the dv4t with the hdtv tuner, will it work internationally?? (in mexico??) How does it work? i dont want to spend money in that, if its not going to work here...
About the replaceable bay... i was thinking, could i for example configure the dv4t with just the dvd multi burner (no blu ray rom), and then buy separately a blu ray burner for laptop and replace it?? is it possible and will it be easy?? (like replacing for another hdd)
I want to view HDTV (1080p) movie files (mkv, mp4, etc) on my ps3 via streaming..... so.. will this laptop be able to handle that flawlessly?? If i configure like this: 4gb ram, 2.66 ghz T9550 processor, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M, Wireless N...
And finally........ could someone tell me a quick and easy explanation about the benefits of wireless N... is it worth it?
Thanks a lot for your time and help.... I just want to be sure about everything... sorry if its a lot of question
I hope that you understand eveything i meant to say -
Well you can always upgrade ur processor, hd, and ram. that'll pretty much cover most of the future stuff, but the thing you wont probably be able to upgrade will be your graphic card. So my suggestion is to get the latest graphic card being offered. Everything else you should be able to upgrade later on. and for the tuner i dont know much about it so i cant give u an advice.

Hello all,
I hope I am posting this in the right forum.....
I am looking at buying an HP DV4-1435dx from BB. It comes with Intel 4500HMD embedded graphics, core 2 duo T6500, 4 gigs RAM, 1280 x 800 display.
My question is:
If down the road I want to upgrade the DVD RW drive to one that also has Blu-ray ROM, will I have enough video processing power to play the discs? I have no need to hook it up to an HD TV, just it's own display.
Thanks! -
Yes. The Intel Chipset in the DV4t is designed to support Blu-ray playback and there is no requirement to upgrade the video processor. If however, you anticipate any gaming .... then upgrade the video.
-
Thank you OldMajorDave!
Thats good news. No, I don't do gaming, so it shoud work fine for my needs.
One more question:
If the HP has NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics installed, will it be able to do the same as the Intel 4500HMD (as in play a Blu-ray disc)?
Thanks again! -
Yes again. Though I don’t have any personnel experience with the GF 8200M, I would guess that it is about equivalent to the Intel GMA 4500. We have a GF 8400M GS in a DV2700tv (model prior to DV4t) and it is only slightly faster than the Intel GMA and still not relevant for gaming with any new games.
More info here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_8200m_g_mgpu_us.html
Also, JMHO….. but I think I would skip that particular DV4t at BB and look for one with a “P” series processor. P7450 is the same speed as the “T” series processor in the BB unit (T6500) but uses 10w less power (meaning longer battery life) and will run much cooler. Personally…. I think in the long run you’d be much happier. Look for coupons here at NBR and if you’re lucky you could get a much better equipped unit for nearly the same price custom ordered directly from HP. Perhaps you might even be able to get that Blu-Ray drive. Again… JMO
All the Best -
Excellent advice! Thanks again!

Hi - dv4 newbie
Went from a white dv2842se to a white dv4-1430us. Couldn't pass up the deal (little over $500) even though it hurt to go with a t6500.
Guess my next step is a cooling mat lol.
I've gotten more compliments on my white hp's than anything I've owned!
What a thread!
Thanks, from a grateful dv4 newbie -

For DV4 users,
I'm thinking for upgrading the VHP to Windows 7 RC since if I'm not mistaken RT version is not yet available?
Anyway, do you guys have any issues on drivers? I'm planning to back-up all my files and do a clean install. Well if in case Windows 7 won't work on I guess I'll revert it back to VHP using recovery disk. -
-
man mines is still in production since last tuesday i hope it ships out soon
-
Phan, My DV3 is still in production since last Monday. :-/
-
dang i wonder why hp is soo backed up been reading past posts seems like ppl been getting their laptop alot faster
-
hey phan did you actually called HP and asked them to use more coupon and did it worked?
-
I've got to think that FedEx doesn't update their tracking in real-time because my package has been in Alaska for over 24 hours. I can't imagine that it would just be sitting there.
