Are you referring to ATI Tools? ATI Tools will only show 3 of the 4 performance levels, while Zotac firestorm will show the 4th (the max) performance level.

I got my core up to 800 and shader up to 1800 without any problems. But I doubt you need to go that high.

I'm still crossing my fingers that I could possible have it on or before July 15.

Anyway, does HP Home store doesn't really provide FREE Notebook bag? Just this year, I purchased an HP Compaq notebook when I was abroad and they are giving away a FREE HP Bag.. Well I'm just hoping..

Mine is due to come today. My question is what is the best thing to do with the battery when you first unbox/boot up? I read you should charge it fully first, then let it drain all the way. I have also read you should not charge iut at all, but just let it drain all the way before plugging it in...

Is this something I should really be concerned about, especially since I'm ready to order a DV4T as soon as the right coupon comes out? Do a lot of the DV4T laptops come with dead pixels? What is Hp's policy for dead pixels, and can you return the laptop if it turns out you have some, or are you just "stuck" with it?

duvallite - I would not worry about dead pixels on your dv4t if I were you. H-P may have their problems - but they use good LCD panels. I currently have a dv4t and dv4z and the LED panels on both are very nice. I have owned, in the past, a dv2000t, 6000t and 6500t - and had zero LCD problems with either of them. Toshiba is the brand, in my opinion, that you have to watch out for - I've had stuck pixels on two laptops from them.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help me with the dv4t's keyboard? I have to use accents like ü, é, etc. a lot and I find it really inconvenient to have to press fn+num lock to get the numbers (which then replace letters). Is there any way to change it so I only have to press fn+alt+# to get accented letters?

    Thanks in advance!

usually HP offers recovery disk as an option when purchasing your notebook for a back up..HP creates a recovery partion on your Hard drive for recovery..you dont need the disk if your pc comes with the recovery partion which most HP notebooks do. TO make a dvd back up disk its fairely easy. once u boot up your pc the HP advisor will inform you that you havnt created a back up disk and will instruct you on how to do it...its fairely easy..and in the case u didnt create a back up DVD and your Recovery partion has become corrupted or deleted you can just order a Recovery disk from HP. you only need to pay shipping and handleing

Hi, I was wondering if all the touch media controls are included if you customize your dv4. I was looking at the quickship models and they have play, pause, etc., but the custom build pics only have volume control and some other stuff.
And I just wanted to confirm that the custom built models come with the media remote? Thanks :)

My custom build did come with a remote control. I do have the TV tuner and I believe the remote was part of that option. You can also use the controls provided on the keyboard.

Hello all, I recently purchased a dv4 with a blu-ray drive and am having a few issues with it. I've found that the only program you can use to play blu rays is the HP Mediasmart DVD program. I ran the program, and it opened and played a blu ray (Iron Man), but the playback was choppy, even when set to high performance and plugged in.

The next time I tried to play the blu ray, the program locked up after several seconds. I restarted the computer, and the program still did the same thing.

I then used the recovery manager to reinstall it. It worked (well, choppy) once, and after that it continues to do its freezing up thing.

I'm just not sure if this is an issue with the drive, or Mediasmart DVD itself. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. I'm not opposed to having to buy some software like PowerDVD to play blu rays if I have to, I just want it to work. Thanks! =)

EDIT: Forgot to list my specs:

hey i'm not totally sure if this'll help or not, but media player classic is a pretty stable media player available for free download online. i'm not sure if it supports blu-ray, though. but it's a very nice overall media player.

    Ravotus,

Wish I could help. My blu-rays have been playing well. I got the 105m graphics card and the p8600 processor ( I think) soley for blu-ray play back purposes, as I was pretty paranoid about having enough performance to play it.

One minor complaint, the drive is louder than I'd like while playing a movie.

How's the heat guys? My main concern with the DV4 is the heat, especially of the hard drive and the GPU.
I've heard later editions of the DV4 have handled heat better and I'd like to see if that's really the case...

If anyone could post some temps it would be great... or at least talk about how hot the HD gets. Thanks.

hey guys i got mine a week ago :p just the normal config for work and design, not gaming or movies haha. in my sig,

i kinda wish the exhaust wasnt behind of the laptop because the more you move the screen back the more the screen blocks the airflow, but it handles heat really well, i use mine for hours on end and its still good, toasty but just warm

I'd really like to know about heat also, as well as fan noise, and if they are an issue or not, as these are the two areas of concern that keep bugging me, as I wait for the right deal to place my order.

Can some of you lucky dv4t owners who have recently received your laptop (in the last couple of months or so) let us know how the heat and fan noise are, and if they are a problem or not? I'm particularly interested in machines that have the 105m gpu and one of the upper P chips, 8600 or 8700, in them. Thanks.

i was wondering the same, but i think it's good to buy now since the 15% is stackable with the $150 instant rebate. so that's pretty much 30% right there. i guess you could always wait for another coupon, but i think the most off is 30%. I would recommend looking at expired coupons to get a feel for what coupons might be in the rafters for the rest of this month.

i just ordered mine yesterday and i CAN'T WAIT! :D i'm super excited!! the eta is around the 20th, so just over a week left... i really hope it comes early.

Hi im new to this fourm, and I wanted to know if it is hard to upgrade the processor for the dv4t from 2.26GHz to any of the higher end processors? if it isn't hard can anyone guide me on how i could do this or where i can find more information about upgrading the processor. I have already read about someone upgrading from 9950 to 9900 and it amazes me because i thought the processor would be soldered but i guess not. :)
I haven't ordered the laptop yet but i will in a couple of hours, do any of you guys think these specs are okay for non-high end games?? thank you for your time

Ohh and i was wondering if should stick with the Wireless-G Card with Bluetooth or
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth or it wouldn't really matter?

My problem with the 12cell battery is that it does not span across the bottom of the laptop. So when I place it on my lap, I have to put my knees together so that the laptop would not be lop-sided when I type; otherwise the battery gives the laptop good clearance.

    Cheers,

I have a DV4t-1400CTO, shipped 6/10/09. P8700 Processor, 105M gpu. Fan noise and heat are a non issue. The unit has 2 vents, upper and lower and the upper one is not totally obstucted with the Screen. At the relatively low fan velocity it is a distinction without a difference. Earlier builds had issues with both fan noise and heat...so far not the case for my unit. You also have 21 days to return the unit for a full refund at HPs expense.

Haven't worked with it on my lap yet, but I see your problem. I like the extra tilt it makes (on the desk) since it helps the ventilation-openings at the bottom of the PC. That's especially true for tables with a tablecloth - it's got a tendency of sucking the cloth up and blocking the ventilation, but the battery fixes that problem..

And the ability to plug the battery directly in the charger is a nice feature, and that goes for the pushbutton to see available charge (presented with a ring of four LEDs: full, 3 quarter, half, 1 quarter and empty)

And getting it for half the price doesn't hurt either.. (a open-package auction)

    Hey guys,

Does the Pentium-Dual Core version 2.0 GHz vs. Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 2.1GHz have hug difference?

I ordered the simplest configuration since I will be using this mainly internet surfing and non-hardcore PC games.

I don't think the difference would be that noticeable, especially if you're not going to be doing anything intense. It really depends on price, I suppose.

It was $963.79, tax included. The tax was so expensive!! >< But it's still under a thousand, so I'm happy.
You can always go to hp's site and configure it to see how much it comes out to, and apply coupons and all that stuff without having to enter much info. I think I configured mine like 20 times at least, haha.

I'm not sure about the dust problem, but from the descriptions on the website, the LED is supposed to be lighter than the other one. I think they have the same frameless look, though. You can always go to the configuration and click the "help me choose" thing for more info. :)

this is indeed true..sometime in april HP began shipping the CTO 1400 series DV4s which no longer suffers from heat issues nor the fan issues either.. i ordered mines in june and i was also affraid of the heat and fan noises because i was a long time reader of this thread and a fan of countless other reviews in which they pointed out the heat and fan issues that existed. but i am proud to say the issues are gone.. i myself when i first got my notebook was skeptical because when u first power the notebook on the fan takes off on its highest setting which u can hear it veryloud. but then it stops spinning after about 3 secs and goes into super quiet mode..the notebook its self runs warm not hot to the touch unless ur running intense applications ( this is if u got the G105M graphics and the P8700 CPU) the only spot that gets warm on the whole notebook is the left palm rest because the HDD is located right underneither..although it doesnt get that warm it does warm up a little though

and also u will most likely get ur notebook shipped way before ur ETA build date as mostly everyone else has..HP usually shipps the notebook on the 6th day and it usually arrives the day after the build date.. i ordered june 1st and my notebook went into production june 4th, it shipped june 6 and left the HP facility in kacshan China and traveled to shanghi then to alaska and then NY all in a 4 day period..so u will most liley recieve ur notebook by the 21st the latest my friend
