Since HP isn't offering the LED screen for the DV4T anymore, and I definitely don't want the Infinity style, how is the quality of the "14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)" that is the other screen choice? Is there enough difference that I should wait to see if they start offering the LED screen again? I'm not in a rush where I have to buy right now, but there is that 30% coupon going on now.
-
Tough choice. I would contact HP and see if they are offering the LED again. I would definitely not get the infinity display - more sensitive to glare and there are reports in this forum of dust, lint getting behind the glass. Advantages of the LED are:
* thinner profile;
* uses less power
* does not fade with time
Disadvantage:
* cost more to replace if it goes bad.
Hope this helps. -
Thanks, SlipSlyden. I guess I'll contact them and see what they have to say. HP drives me crazy with the way they change the available options. I had been looking at getting the P8600 also, but that was removed as an option a few weeks ago. The P7550 will work fine, but I would REALLY like to have the LED screen.
-
can u keep me posted about what hp says about the led? and in my opinion if it does return i would wait for it the display is really great i have the dv4t right now but unfortunately i have to return it because there is something wrong with the bluetooth module
-
I got an email response back from HP Sales about the LED screen option for the DV4T. They said that don't know if or when it will be available as an option again. They recommended that I check the website periodically to see if it is. They also said that they (Sales) typically only get a few days notice of when various new options are coming available for a particular model. They also suggested that I consider the DV3 as a possible alternative, but I don't want to go that route, so I guess I'll just do the wait and see thing, and see what happens.

Does the DV4-1400 CTO models also has the SRS Premium Sound? It says on the screen but I'm not sure if it really does..
-
this is something i would like to know as well
-
just got my dv4t about a week ago..
is it safe to remove that HP advisor that runs on every startup..
its very annoying and take some time load during the windows loading..
if i remove that would i have any prbs..or its safe to remove..
thaanks -
im almost 100% sure that it is safe to remove the advisor program, if u read other posts other users do a clean install on the laptop, and i am sure if u do a clean windows install ur laptop will be alot alot better
as for the premium sound, the answer is yes dv4t does have the srs premium sound
duvallite, i suggest u go with the dv3t and try it out for 21 days if u dont like it return it, or u can do an exchange if the dv4t comes out with the led screen for the same price or for even a better deal it wouldn't hurt but i advise u if u want to do an exchange use the credit card option and not the paypal otion -
It sure does. Look for the music note icon (IDT) in your taskbar and click on it. Attached is link showing what comes up.

Hi i was wondering if anyone else experienced the same problem I am. I have had my hp dv4t-1400 for about a week now and for some reason it makes the usb connect and disconnect noise randomly while im using the computer. I have no usb devices connected to the computer and no cards in the sd card slot so I was hoping that someone here could help me. I contacted HP and went through all the troubleshooting steps and now they want me to do a full system recovery on my laptop. I'm just hoping there is nothing wrong inside the laptop. Also I thought this was weird. The piece of my laptop where the volume control is above the keyboard kinda annoys me. The plastic piece that this is located on looks like it is cut a little uneven and it has a white rough spot in the little crack between the volume and the speaker. I can't really explain it but it's just under the volume control. I guess it isn't so bad since the light from the volume control hides it but I just thought it was a little odd. I'm a very picky person and I want my laptop to be made right since I dished out quite a bit of money for it. I guess I could try taking a pic of it to show if anyone was interested. I could just paint it black so it wouldnt show as much maybe. Thanks for the help.

Hey nu_d
here are the temp:

Today it was little better but yesterday it was pretty hot
Thanks -
Your temps are great save for the HDD. The HDD temps are a bit high but they fall right in line for the DV4.
The HDD temps are the highest of any component, which is pretty crazy, but you can try turning the "Always On" fan option in the BIOS to "on" and see if that improves things, that's if you have turned it off.
If you're pushing the HDD by installing software and what not expect your temps to rise.
One more thing, I am not sure if it it will work, but it's worth a shot- remove your battery when your laptop is stationary on a desk. I've read that removing the battery lowers temps. So if you're laptop is sitting there connected to a power source, just remove the battery and see what happens. It's healthier for the battery anyway so....
Oh and the HDD is under the left palm-rest... so if that area heats up you know why.
G'luk. -
But actually my palm-rest was not heated or i could'nt feel the heat.
The area that was more heated was below my laptop i guess near the battery part. As when i kept the laptop on my lap... the below party was heated. -
Your battery was charging Karan, that produces heat. From your HW Monitor post, your battery was at 152 mAh; where if it was a 6 cell, fully charged it would be around 4200 mAh and some change. Your computer is fine, no excessive temps from the data posted.

What $250 off coupon?? is it stackable?? -
Hi everyone! I bought a dv4t last week and I´m trying to get some extra GB for the laptop. Does anyone know if the dvd/bluray drive can be removed to add another hdd? Where would someone buy this kind accesory? Is it called smart drive? I know HP doesn´t sell it thru their web site. Any advise? Thanks in advance!
-
I'm pretty sure the DVD-RW drive can be removed, so I assume the Blu-ray one can be removed as well.
From the DV4T manual, this is what you want:
Part Number: 488128-001
Swappable bay hard drive hardware kit for use in standard computer models
Which can be ordered here: http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/ -
You can get it from here... it's a bit cheaper.
-
I have recently received the new hp dv 4t and the QUICK PLAY buttons are missing from the laptop!.
Just want to see if everyone is getting the laptops without QUICK PLAY buttons. -
Did you order the TV Tuner? Unless you have that, the only buttons on your laptop will be the volume controls and wireless. I'm pretty sure they started doing that a couple models ago.
-
pixelwhisker,
I ordered the TV tuner and still only have those basic buttons. I think they stopped doing that on these models overall. -
There's no more play/pause/stop/ff/rw???
-
They have been gone since the DV4T-1400 started shipping, around late May, early June 2009. -
Wow. That sucks. Those keys were really useful. Tossers.
-
I have dv4 1242tx laptop. Fan spins at full speed when connected to AC power while battery is charging creating nosie. I have disabled fan always on option and also there is no dust collected on fan. Still the fan spins at full speed even if CPU usage is 0%. Fan is always on while running on battery at medium speed. I have asked HP service center they said all dv4 series have this mechanism of cooling. Bois : f.30 Is it true??
-
Were you able to successfully install ALPS Pointing Device Driver for Windows 7 RTM?
-
Yes, I saved the original SWSETUP and used the driver that came with it and it works fine with RTM.
I am still having problems getting WinXP to work on Dv4t-1400 tho. -
Yea the coupon code was stackable.. But I think its expired now.. This was the coupon I used:
At Checkout apply EXTRA $250 off over $1199 on customized HP Notebook purchases Coupon Code: NZR91524 [Exp. After 900 uses][Offer excludes HP Mini edition series] -
thanks pixelwhisker! i have confirmed with the customer service & now i am cool to use my new dv 4t!
-
Thank you very much Gauden44!!!
-
Can anybody answer to my post : 1583
-
Go into your BIOS and turn off the "Fan Always On" option.
Other than that, they are all the same. -
Hey All.. So I just got my laptop.. But can't really fire it up till I get home from work today. I was just looking at the blu-ray/dvd drive and noticed that it doesnt have the blu-ray logo on it.. Does anybody know if the blu-ray drive for the new dv4t's is supposed to have the logo on it?
-
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
i am missing several drivers in windows 7 (i already installed hd smart protect thingy).
I installed the tv tuner, but it doesn't work -_- -
Yes, it has a logo on it, to the right of the tray open button. Also you can pop it out and on the part label it should say "BD-ROM/ DVD Rewriter"
-
I guess I got lucky by picking the special edition od the dv4t while it was still there, since apparently those FF/RW/P/S touch buttons are not there on the regular dv4t anymore.. really weird why they would do that.. it's very useful for me, especially when editing music..
-
im glad i ordered the dv4t before the removed the led display!
-
Hi all. I am new here and got my dv4t two months ago when I began to lurk on this board every so often. I have been a mac user for years, but with three children in college, and an ex who won't help with that, (can you tell I'm bitter? lol) I couldn't afford the macbook pro I so desperately wanted. I do have to say I'm completely in love with this new purchase! I bought a white one to match my iPhone though ;-)
I just need to know if anyone can tell me what type of video card I have in it. I can't seem to find any detailed specs on it, and I was hoping to see if there's any dedicated RAM for the card.
Thx in advance, Tommie -
umm do uhave the nvidia logo on the bottom right of ur laptop? if not than u have an intel integrated graphic card but i am not sure which one u have
u can download wats called gpu-z to find out too -
hello, out of 3 or 4 laptop models i am seriously considering the dv4(t), but i have been unable to find a specific model number for what i want (my boss is fronting most the cash; he is a distributor and can get really good pricing). i am hoping someone can provide me with a specific model #.
what i am really looking for is:
core 2 duo, >3MB cache
bluetooth
dedicated graphics (any, at this point)
fingerprint reader (optional)
if someone can provide with their number that has the above "requirements" it would be greatly appreciated! i would even buy you a beer if you are in the phx, az area -
well i dont have a finger print reader but i got everything else u got
try to look up: ns243av not sure if that'll help much -
thank you for responding! the only thing a search pulls up for that is the hp partsurfer site and unfortunately i am not finding an exact cross-reference. what is your full "dv4t-xxxxxx" model?
