Guyz
a question for you. I have disabled HP media adivsor on startup as it took sometime to comeup. Now what happens is when i am on battery and my when my battery reaches near end or discharges completely then my computer automatically shuts down or i assume it goes to hibernate mode without giving any warning that my battery is low and i should connect to my adapter.
Is there any setting that I am missing? -

-
for those with windows 7 installed has anyone been able to get the on screen display for the quicktouch to work?
-
Does dv4t-1400 support quad core processors?
Q9000 on a PM45 for example? -
I know it's in this thread somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. I want to upgrade to 4GB of memory and want to know what is the max speed I can get? DDR2 800, 1066 or some other? Also is it 200 pin?
Thanks -
Anyone have an idea or can point me in the right direction?
Thanks -

After a few months of use, the thing that I dislike the most about the dv4t is the touchpad. Too sesitive. Can this be changed? Windows open as I move around a page. Hate it.
-
yes you can change the sensitivity of the touch pad just go into the touch pad settings, there should also be an icon on the bottom tat resembles the touch pad
-
I upgraded to WIndows 7 -- but installing the audio drivers does not enable the correct lighting of the quicktouch buttons. The mute button in particular.
They do however properly control the audio volume/mute.
Another thing I found with the upgrade is the remote control does not work with Windows 7.
Anybody know of a fix for either or both of these? Thanks. -
has anyone ordered dv4t directly from hp with vista ultimate 64 bit installed? if so, what is the part number in the "packing list" for it?
-
So I just bought my DV4T last week. Why has this thread died?
I wanted both the bluray drive and the 512 geforce card but I could only afford one at the time of my purchase so I went with the graphics card thinking it would be easy to find a bluray drive for sale some where.

One question I have that I could not find certainty on was whether or not one of the two front headphone jacks supports SPDIF audio output. The reason being... is that I will be running my laptop to my tv, and my tv and receiver are in two seperate directions. Essentially I am looking for a high quality audio output that is seperate from the HDMI. Can anyone verify this? Cant wait till my machine comes in. -
Second, the headphone jacks do not support spdif audio output. you'd have to send the hdmi signal to the rcvr, and then depending on the quality of recvr it would isolate the audio or simply pass through. -
In the SWSETUP folder, under drivers and CIR, you can install the drivers for the infrared remote control.
I have Windows 7 up and running on my DV4-1222NR and DV4-1220US. Every piece of hardware is working --

I just ordered a HP dv4t notebook last week. =) It's quite costly compared to other brands but nevertheless, it looks awesome! Can't wait to receive it.
I've read numerous reviews that this laptop overheats easily. So...
What is the best portable cooling pad for this??? =) -
As to cooling pad, if you really need one, I saw one online that folds to a small size but while I was in the tropics with my then just-out-of-the-box DV4 1028US, P8400, I simply used 4 plastic bottle-caps to improve air-circulation under the feet. It worked fine and I've never experienced heat problems even though ambient temps were often 30+ C. It makes little sense to block any notebook's "breathing" by resting it on soft surfaces such as pillows or beds.
Thanks to all on here, I've found handy links and how-to's, so I'll be glad to assist any on the thread. -
hmm the dv4t does not overheat easily, not for me at least, i've undervolted my dv4 so that it doesn't get hot as fast when i use certain programs and it works great, i also turned off the all ways on fan so that the battery can last longer
-
Thank you everyone on this thread. I have read every post and perhaps have gained some accumulated wisdom. Thanks again.
I guess I'm dumber than I am smart, as there is much more actual/factual information than the quasi factual stuff I have in my poor overeducated brain (including that taught in school).
It seemed that temperature got off on a tangent while some of the "crackling" sound issues went, "possibly", unexplained. So here's my question.
While using magicJack with a 2.4GHz cordless phone , skype or other VOIP and on WiFi ( 2.4GHz ) I would get poor sound. So I dropped either the WiFi or cordless (and hoped no one nearby was microwaving) and sound was okay. Now if I add a thumbnail USB bluetooth (uses 2.4 GHz) and bluetooth mouse etc,
Will I have too many 2.4 GigaHertz's going around bumping into each other ?? -
Does anyone have a problem similar to mine on his/her dv4t?
Sometimes the computer would just have poor performance. For example, I can't watch any videos on youtube because firefox crashes, but I can browse standard webpages(like forums) fine. I can't run iTunes either, I click the icon and the computer does nothing. Same for hulu desktop. Pretty much any high resource hog cannot be run when my computer acts like this.
How do I solve it? I have to restart my computer and that fixes the problem.
But this is a inconvenience and it should not be the case if I paid money for my computer(got it 2 months ago for college)
I have a dv4t-1430us
Windows 7 64-bit
Core 2 Duo T6500
4 GB RAM -

dba, I've noticed some problems too with Firefox's "new & improved" update.
Google Chrome seems okay, though.
Maybe it's good to use several just in case you need to shift over.
If truth be known, most of the difficulties we experience are likely self-inflicted though unintentional. -
-
DBA- Hmm i just wanted to know something, did your laptop come with vista or windows 7, if it came with vista you should try going back to it and see if there is any improvement, if u dont want to than i suggest u check and to see if ur missing any files when u updated, or reboot window 7 again
-
Just got my laptop a few days ago...Everything is great except that it seems as if the keyboard is a bit warped. It raises up from right to left...Its not a big deal, but its bothering me a little...anyone see this? Would it be possible to take the keyboard out to straiten it out a bit...thanks.

Not a big computer person so that's the reason for the question. Went to Windows 7 today from Vista. No problems. I have 7 on DVD.
Question is what to do with my partition, which I assume has Vista on it?
Is that my backup or is the 7 DVD backup? Can I free up the HD space and somehow remove the partition?
Maybe wrong thread, but it's a dv4t. -
bennypatti- you can try to straighten it out its fairly simple and easy there are instruction online
Martyd- i dont suggest you delete that partition because it is not for windows 7 its for vista and it is probably the only way back to vista if window 7 messes up somehow
im pretty sure you are not going to do anything that will fill up your whole HD space -
hi guys. My grandma spilled water on my brand new dv4t laptop. What luck huh.. It was placed vertically on my bag. and the ports were wet. I wiped them with tissue and placed it upside down infront of a fan.
What else should I do? =( Will my laptop still work? -
Also, I've gradually began to hate the trackpad on this laptop. It's is a nightmare to use. It's made out of the worst possible material that leads to extremely visible smudges. Not only that, but it's annoyingly small. I wish there was a grace period kind of like cell phones where you can exchange your device, because I probably would be exchanging this. -
DBA-there is a grace period 21 days after u buy ur noteboook you can either exchange it or get a full refund, well depends where u buy it i guess, i bought mines at hp.com
tsubaki- hmm im not quite sure what will happen to your laptop, i know some tech stuff if u get it wet and u wait till it is fully dry than it might work but as far as laptops i suggest u wait till its completely dry than try turning it on, if it doesn't than i would say try to see if u can get hp.com to fix it or a local computer store(might have to replace the motherboard) -
anyone installed windows 7 on dv4t? vista 32 bit home premium?
which version did u install? any driver compatibilty issues? -
I took it inside, opened up all the slots on the bottom, put it to drain out. I was sad to see a little water on the hard drive area, but hoped that it did not get inside. I took out everything user accessible, took out CD drive, hard drive, RAM, battery, etc. I pulled out the backup battery as well. i would say to make sure you disconnect it as well. I did not want any electricity to be in the laptop. I put it in a A-frame position and blow a fan on it. I planned to blow the fan on it for 1 week, but after 4 days, I was too tempted to try it. I powered it up, and everything worked like it should. I am happy my computer wasnt toasted. I was so scared. -
Has anyone UPGRADED to windows 7 x64 from Vista x64?
I spent a lot of time configuring my laptop doing a clean/fresh vista install and making sure EVERYTHING was perfect. I do not have the time to do all of that work again. How is it to do the upgrade instead of a fresh install? Is it worth it? How much more space did it use? Any drive issues? Would Win7 still be peppy with a upgrade versus a fresh install? Is it worth doing the upgrade?
I have Core2Duo P7350 with 4GB Ram, 1yr old laptop. -
Good news for me
I finally completely dissasembled my notebook, clean fans, changed thermal paste on processor and gpu and now my notebook working very well!

GPU idle: 47 C
GPU max: 70 C

well i must say i am having some Really bad and i do mean REALLY bad performance after upgrading from vista ultimate 64 bit to windows 7 professional 64 bit. The boot up is Extremely slow and my bluetooth devices wont connect or transfer files. other than that its been fine although the bootup alone makes me want to do a jump back to vista which performed MUCH better than W7 has on boot up times..lemme specify my issue...
I installed W7 as an upgrade from vista ultimate 64 bit. activated windows and all was fine untill i realized it sucks on boot up times. Vista use to boot up within thirty seconds from pushing the power button. But now it takes 3 minutes for W7 to fully boot up on my DV4. first of all it is NOT hardware related as my unit has a P8700 CPU (2.53 duo core) 512 MB Nvidia G105m, 4GB ramm, 320GB HDD. After installing W7 i did upgrade all of my drivers off the HP site so all my drivers are updated and all hardware is installed ( in device manager theres no uninstalled or unknown devices). I just cant seem to understand why my Dv4 is showing horrible performance with W7 when W7 is suppose to use less resources at startup and start up much more quickly. I am assuming it is just an upgrade issue or something and im going to reinstall W7 professional when my boot disk arrives in about a week. No i didnt upgrade through the HP promotion i got W7 professional for $30 through the microsoft student discount program. i can boot up itunes and firefox with no issues but has anyone else experienced some REALLY horrible Sluggish performance issues with W7? -
wouldn't it be best if u make a clean boot instead of upgrading it? because when u upgrade it there might be a chance that windows 7 might not have or missed some files during the copying or transfering files from windows vista to windows 7? or maybe it failed to convert some files without notifying you? have you tried a clean install?
-
-
so how did you upgraded it? if u didn't have the cd?
