alright seems hp stopped putting western digital hdd in their laptops, mine is a hitachi,250gb,n its HOT...but ever since i had it on the max it got upto was 47c,n it stayed there. i didnt do clean install, only used the bloatware removal.

im not doing anything with it right now, just finished a series of installation
my cpu now stays at 37-39, max 41

    gpu now 53,max 57

HDD,oh sweet, now it drops to 45...max 47

but if you touch the bottom of it,(the left palmrest area, n right under the touchpad),it was kind of hot. my room temp is 80.

overall, i am -VERY-satisfied with it, if any of you could stand you HDD toast up to 50,i'd say it will be one of the best ever for the money you spend. HDD temps at 50 is not a big problem at all, danger zone is around 60,n i think normally it wont go above 50.

two words, LOVING IT.... :D i'l report back more after lunch.

If you don't game, I would go with the X4500... for $100 less, you're getting more battery life out of it. And yes, the X4500 generates less heat than the 9200M GS. X4500 will be more than enough to watch movies--- Intel did a good job improving it's older X3100 to this X4500, there is a considerable improvement.

Personal Opinion: Infinity screen is aesthetically pleasing, good to show off to friends. But it strains my eyes... a lot of people in these forums are on the same page as I am. Save the $50 and buy something else like Office 2007 or a better CPU.

I have had about 5 hard drives fail in 4 different laptops after about 2 years and I have come to the realization that it is inevitable. I would rather the hard drive fail due to heat than the CPU/GPU which seems to be at a reasonable level in the DV4T.

7Miles, i look forward to hearing more of your review.

By default HP includes a space saver to fill the express card slot. It is spring activated, just push it in and it should pop out. Do the same to put the remote back into the slot.

Speak to another one, some of the reps have no clue. Just call in and ask to purchase extended warranties. I have purchased these before and usually they are priced around ~$100 and extend the warranty for a year. You can also purchase these online from HP's website. here's link to one....

what's the main difference between the "HP Pick Up and Return Extended Service Plan for HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario Notebook PCs " and the "Accidental Damage Protection Extended Service Plan for Notebook PCs ". is it just that the latter has a accidental damage protection? is everything else the same?

Yes, i would avoid the other warranties(especially the tune up, smartfriend) and stick with either the regular main-in service or accidental. Remember that when HP mentions 2yrs, it starts from the dale of sale of the laptop not the warranty.

thanks so if i buy a 2 year one at the end of the first year it counts as 1 year?

also is it possible to add the 1 year ADP right now to the stock 1 year warranty and still extend it later?

Yeah but try to buy it with the laptop itself if you are set on getting 2 yrs. It would turn out to be cheaper especially in the case of ADP since you are only paying $170 upfront for 2yrs instead of paying $100 + $170(or whatever the price is at the time of purchase) to extend it for an extra year.

Man I am jealous of 7miles and others that got yours today. I must have lame Fedex in my area because mine will not come until tomorrow. Of course I work all weekend so I will have no time to mess with it. I hope mine comes with the western digital hard drive.

Also, am I hearing that the remote comes standard on the dv4t??

DV4T is a nice and sexy looking laptop, but a very strange thing happened to me twice. I was at the store with my laptop using it, and suddenly the screen disappeared (went black) but the system was on, while the power light (the lightening) started to blink non stop. I know for sure the battery was charged 100%. i thought it went to sleep mode or the monitor turned off to save battery, but it didnt wake up. I had to shut it down completely by holding the power button. Furthermore, after shutting down, i couldn't start it back. I turned my laptop upside down, removed the battery and placed it back in and it started to work perfectly normal. After like 10min, that thing happened to me again the same way. I had to remove the battery and place it back, in order for it to turn up. However... it didn't repeat afterwards and now it works fine. This thing scared me since i thought i might have a defective laptop, but im not 100% sure since i can't replicate the same thing. Thank g-d i bought a ADP warranty for 2 years.

Anyone every heard of this problem?

P.S. FYI: The warranty can be purchased after you buy the laptop, however the price would not be the same, they don't give you the discount....

I called last night and spoke to some outsourced overseas CSR and asked her to confirm that the mobile remote is included. I explained that it wasn't the tv tuner remote and she puts me on hold for like 5 minutes and finally comes back and say well it says no tv tuner/remote after explaining it to her before she put me on hold. I hung up on her and called and spoke to sales and the CSR from the USA said it is not listed but is comes standard with the DV4T.

Do you know the number to the USA technical customer support? When I call the number provided by hp website it transfers me to over-sea international support (india) and I must say they do not know anything. There was this guy who knew something, but most of them are simply retarded, sadly. If anyone knows how to reach the USA tech department, I would appreciate it.

I called 1 (888) 999-4747 and chose sales and it took me to a US CSR. I assume for sales they don't wanted idiot outsourced CSRs helping customers with their sales order. Once you get someone in the USA tell the CSR you want to talk to tech support in the USA and hopefully that gets you somewhere.

so i still have one thing that i want clarified about the warranty. so this is what i am doing: at the time of purchasing the laptop i will be buying the ADP for 1 year. after my first year is up i plan to buy a 2 year to extend my warranty for 1 more year. on HP's website it says one plan per product, will buying the 2 year plan in 1 year violate this requirement?

    hi guys,
i'm planning for a new HP , but after going through these informative forums , credit goes to u guys , i'm planning that if hp is shipping hitachi disk drives i might go in for dv5t (inspired by its graphics card i must say within the same price tag) , else if the dv4t still has western digital(no heating problems) then definitely ill go in with dv4t to meet my mobility requirements

Please comment on this line of thought!!

I would base your decision on the features. I was actually debating between both dv5t and dv4t.

I'm a college student who likes to game and multitask, and likes to be mobile.

I'm giving my dv4t to my dad, and getting a dv5t--- I figured I could benefit from the higher resolution (for enhancing my schoolworking abilities! :D) Anyways, that was merely my rationalization for getting the 9600M GT...

I wouldn't base my decision between dv4t v dv5t based on the Hitachi HD thing, I would base it on the features you need.

That is valid only for extended warranties otherwise none of the extended warranties would be valid considering all new HP laptops ship with 1yr warranties. When you buy it with the laptop it is included with the laptop, not an extension. Also, remember to buy it before the 1st year is up not after.

No, it becomes standard warranty when you buy it with the laptop. If you are still in doubt chat with HP & ask. BTW, the one plan per product is more likely a restriction against people buying 2 or more extended warranties(ADP + Total care) for just one product.

I didn't mean to offend you but that is my opinion. It's more than just not being able to speak english clearly, it's about poor training and product knowledge which makes it very difficult to deal with most outsourced CSRs.

Anyway, 7Mile...anymore feedback after a day of use with your DV4T?

I agree with you.... it's not about clear English or not, it's about overall knowledge and helping wise. A small example, I call to cancel my laptop order after I have placed it (wanted to change configuration) so the outsourced CSRs tell me its impossible to do and issue me a $30 customer satisfaction credit. I call back and get connected to USA represent. and the guy says "who told you this" and he is like "I'll help you, give me a minute" and guess what? My order was canceled and I was able to order a new one. Moral of story, it was possible to do, but they didn't know what to do.

    Second experience:
I call to ask how to create a restoration disk and drivers support(since they don't send the CD's anymore which I don't like). Although I figured it out on my own, I called HP support.. it connected me to outsourced CSRs (India I think) and no one was able to help me and kept transferring from one place to another, about 6 times, until I got a guy.. who actually spoke English well and was very knowledgable. Basically, most of them are simply uneducated and untrained to be a real tech support for HP.

I have Western Digital 250GB and it also heats to 47C at idle and 50-55 when constantly working (like installing updates). I doubt there is a great difference with Hitach 250GB, since WD HD gets very warm on the left side of the case. It is manageable.

    Hey guys-
Just got done reading all of your posts...well...most of them ;) I have been planning on picking up a DV4T for few weeks now and all of the info on here has been very helpful. I do have a few questions i was hoping you guys could help out with.

    1. Gaming. I am not a huge gamer but in the past have enjoyed playing HalfLife2 from time to time. I understand that the 9200m GS is limited in its gaming ability but am confused by how much. Does this mean that I will not be able to play HL2 with descent settings? or just that i shouldn't plan on buying Crysis anytime soon?

    2. TV Tuner. It says on the Components page of the DV4T that it has an optional Built in TV Tuner..but it is not listed under specs. I did read that someone said this is something that is being added. I called HP and was told that it is going to be added but might not be yet...he wasn't sure (awesome sales) Do any of the computers already received ave a TV tuner?

    3. Does anyone do and photoshop work or video/sound editing and how well will this machine perform in that department?

I have been up in the air between the DV4T and the dv2800 Artist Series. l
like the looks of the dv4t more and it also comes with that nifty fingerprint reader. The artist series comes with a slightly better graphics card but no finger reader and has artwork all over it (which i kinda like..but will get sick of fast) the Artist series is about 100$ more with my configuration.(the same as DV4T but dif graph card)

Also te DV2800 has a 12cell battery available. Do you guys think they will release one for the DV4T?

Like i said. i don't do a lot of gaming but it would be nice to ave the option.

here is what Im looking at:

Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit
    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
14.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display
    3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS

    Great question!

I'm looking to use the dv4t for a lot of PS work.
I'd also like more information about the LED screen, which should have a wider gamut than the two LCD screens.

I guess the DV5T would be my next option. Im horrible at balancing these things out. DV5T is bigger, weighs more and is also more expensive but can handle more and u can get a better screen. The artist series 12cell battery is attractive...AHHHHHHH!!!!!

dv5t's less expensive with a lot more options now with the 400 off coupon.well actually it only depends on whether you are a big gamer or not. you will see 12 cell battery available for dv4t in the future...

i have the ratings posted in another thread if you wanna check it out n see if its good for photoshop/video editing.
