same here, so i guess basically people should expect their lappies to get shipped out 5-7 days ahead....which is a good thing. start to think hp might use this as a trick to gain customer satisfaction.....![]()

nice to hear something good about it. but ive been planning on putting some game on it,looks like i should be careful... -
can someone please post pictures of the brightview display, and someone else that has the led display for comparision. the nearest best buy is too far and no pictures are available on the hp site.
thanks -
something very interesting:
the dv2700t I used to own
the 8400m GS used to climbling all the way up to 60 C not matter what program I was using , even only wording.
the 9200m GS now will reach 52 C when watching video, after I closed the windows media player, the temp drop significantly from 52 C all the way down to 42 C.
I have not yet tested any game, will let u guys know later. -
my estimated build date was the 11th, and that's when i actually received it. it left china on the 7th.
i'm not much of a gamer, but i wanted a better graphics card for CAD and this flight simulator (flightgear) that i wanted to run. i tried running that and it worked pretty well. though according to cpuid got up to 77C (scary!) when running. and there was a little lag, but much better than my old laptop, which it wouldn't even run on. i just installed matlab too, which is neat. now if only i can get solidworks for it.. -
mine's the regular brightview display, no infinity, no led..
and it's brighter than it appears in the photos (with the adapter plugged in)
-
-
thats a nice screen, but im still wondering what the infinity display looks like. im wondering if the screen goes all the way to the edge like they say.
-
Which program should I use to check the temperature of my dv4t?
-
i used cpuid to check the temperatures.
i didn't change any of my color settings. it's whatever it was defaulted to. actually i did change the windows color to graphite and the color intensity's at about 2/3. i kept everything else as is though.
for the infinity, at least from what i saw of the dv5z at bestbuy, it's like the whole screen extends to the edge, so the frame and the screen are the same material, like it's one piece of glass with a black border, but the screen is still 14". i'm assuming it's similar for the dv4t.. -
-
-
The best comparison would be like the current iPods, where the face of the entire iPod is one solid piece of glass-like material, with the screen behind it - in comparison to original iPods where the screen is set in a plastic surround.

A question on wireless: the HP Web site says you can purchase either the 802.11b/g WLAN standard or the Intel Wi/Fi 5100AGN. But above people have referenced getting 802.11b/g/n. Does the former option come with the draft n standards (the HP site does not say so), or was that a mistake?
-
when I was ordering this laptop, It has two wireless option
802.11 or 5100 wifi.
i am not sure about the difference between them, but one thing i am sure is the 802.11 is standard option.
anyone know what are the differences between these two? -
Has anyone gotten a dv4t with Intel integrated graphics? I am wondering battery life with this over nvidia, and performance of the chip, such as fps while running doom 3. My current ati xpress 200m gets 20-30.
-
-
Furthermore, is everyone satisfied with the 6 cell battery? Did most people get the high capacity or the regular 6 cell. How long does it last?
Thanks! -
Does the DV4T come with the expresscard remote? I don't see it in anyone's builds.

^ call and confirm to be sure. oddly enough, it shows up under the 'accessories' tab when you are spec'ing a machine - it shows up as a $19.99 option.
when i called them to confirm the specs on my dv7t, they said that although the remote shows up as an option online, my dv7t DOES have one included.
the short of it - call them to confirm. if i hadn't called them and asked, i would have paid $20 more for an option that was already included!
how come website errors/oversights are always in the companys favor? LOL

I could use some help, I am thinking of getting this laptop, but have some questions. Those that have one could you please add your input
Thanks.
I want a smallish light laptop, 12-14inch at around or under 5 pounds. Thats fast and 2 GB ram-250 HD-P8XXX intel. Not really into games but i want a dedicated graphics card-but not a 8400 or 8600 so this knocks out most laptops. With ABGN WiFiand Bluetooth. LED as it seems to be all around better
The DV4T seems to fit my bill, other then the heat issue which i dont care about (i can use a drill and add vents), how is this laptop is the touchpad ok, does the shinnyesh of the laptop get in your way or is it livable. Hows the screen too reflective-can it be fixed with anti glare cover?
HP has there $400 coupon right now so everything listed here comes to a bit under 1,000 with free shipping. This is everything i want in a laptop and my max price. And i dont think anyother laptop comes close?
Could use some advise, this will be my first laptop, i have always built my computers so this finding the right laptop config is HARD -
I currently own a dv4t, and I really like how the screen looks (without LED). I've heard mixed reviews about the LED screen---supposedly being flimsy. The extra $200 for the small gains in an LED screen like a lighter computer, saving several more minutes of battery life are unjustifiable in my opinion. If you really wanted 10-15 minutes longer, get the high capacity 6 cell battery for a bit more instead of paying the full $200 premium for the LED. Besides, the unused $200 can be used for 3gb memory, P8600 processor, etc.
-Heat can be easily solved by buying an Antec Notebook Cooler, those work really well for 14" HP notebooks. I'm using one of those right now.
-The touchpad is okay, but then again, I never use touchpad, I prefer my Logitech V450 laser mouse. And since you're getting Bluetooth, get a Logitech Bluetooth mouse.
-Shiny is no big issue, you might get annoyed by how fast you get fingerprints, but otherwise, it's not really distracting.
-Screen looks really really nice (I can't speak for the LED or the Infinity version though) I use it at 70% power when I'm indoors because that's more than bright for me. As with all laptops, using them outdoors under the sun has problems with glare... that's just difficult to get around in general.
-Do other laptops come close? Look at my config below, that's a really hard config to come by for $900. If you wanted a 14.1" like that, you'd end up shelling out for a notebook that doesn't use the latest Montevina chipset & non-800Mhz DDR2 memory.
Based on what you're saying you want in your system, this is what I would personally get for $1299 - 400 = $899
$899 + tax - 5% Live.com discount = ~$915

Now, you spoke of a $400 coupon? Is that online? Please tell me where to get that. I'm ordering mine in the next three days, and I would REALLLLLY like to save $400.
Share the wealth. Lol. -
-
Hooran, what is the 5% Live.com discount that you mentioned? I'm clueless on this one...
-
You order through their link, finish making acct, and HP will contact them after you've made your purchase. Then Live.com will issue 5% cash back to you in the form of your choosing. -
Alright folks....
The $400 coupon was the straw that broke the camels back...

Came in just under a grand. Honestly, you cannot beat those specs for that price. My current lappy is a 2.0 gig single core, 1.5 gig ram, 120 gig HD and I paid $1500 for it 3 years ago. Amazing how quickly the price of technology drops.
I'll post updates and a review as soon as I get my dv4t, and thanks to all those who have encouraged my purchase. Haha. I espicially thank mindwip for mentioning that coupon. Lol.... -
-
Thanks for your answers!!!
The only reason i am going for the LED is because of the $400 discount other wise it would be the normal screen. And of course i am getting the high capacity battery. The Deal ends today i believe... have to make up my mind...LED or LCD arrr. I could always add a LED later, as taking apart laptops is easy. Humm.
I dont want the NVIDIA 8XXX card because of the problems with them. -
it wouldnt hurt if you get the 9series card with the 400 off coupon -
Thats why i fell in love with the dv4t as it has the 9XXX series wish it was a better card but it will do.
Is it worth it to get the Intel P8600 over the P8400

btw how many of you have still not gotten your laptops? I'm excited and waiting patiently for mine. I have a build date of the 22nd, and im hoping it will go into production atleast 2-4 days before, on the website new orders have a production date of the 22nd, and i ordered mine a week ago, so hopefully its speeding up? Post your dates!
-
personally i prefer P8600,which i had on mine.P7350 is a budget processor compared to the other 2, that's why its not listed in intel's official website, but generally its powerful enough n saves you some extra bucks~
mine is scheduled to deliver on friday by 10am,original estimated date was 19th...it depends on what you put on your lappy, some people still get theirs no earlier than the estimate.i only had the widescreen display just hoping to save some time..... -
Its going to be the P8400 or P8600 for me, its only 50 bucks more
. I will not be getting the blueray, i would never use it. I have not bought a DVD in a long time, let alone a Blue-ray. I time shift all my tv/movie watching.
-
I saw a pdf flyer that said it was included but you know how it goes if you don't specify it on the website. I will call later today and confirm...thanks for the info!
-
i have a small question about the dv4t. are you guys able to lift up the screen without holding the base down?
-
if you kinda wiggle it a little, it'll come up, but not before the base lifts up a little. -
-
What do folks think of this configuration? I'll mostly be using it for a lot of productivity stuff, photos/videos, music, surfing, but not any gaming. I built it so it hits just over the $1299 mark ($1327-400). I could swap out the NVIDIA card for the 8600 processor and the 3GB memory - not sure which is most likely to be worthwhile, and if I'm "over-buying" for what I need.
Also, what's your take on the HP warranties? I included the 3 year, which is $269 at face value, which feels steep... Can you buy a warranty after purchase on HPs, or do you have to get it at time of original purchase?

Mike i say keep the graphics card as its the one thing you listed that can not be added later, you can always buy a better CPU or more memory.
-
I would suggest get a higher CPU and GPU as we can while ordering
hard drive and memory can be purchased easily in a cheaper price later.
besides, GPU is not upgradable and there will be a lots of efforts need to put in when we decide to upgrade CPU; it is much harder compare to hard drive and memory. -
I bit the bullet heres what i got- Just ordered it with delivery date of 22
dv4t with
14.1 basic model-dont care for the "frame less appearance"- Saved money for Desktop PC upgrades by not getting the LED

256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS

Final price with shipping and taxes-$1103.96
I feel kind of screwed, i thought you got the $100 instant rebate with the coupon which you dont. I can deal with that! but what i dont like is that after i said "order it" she gave me the price which was $100 more then i expected (which is when i learned about the instant rebate not appling). The only reason i got the 350GB drive was i thought i was under the 1299 amount needed for the coupon so i added the bigger hard drive which was $100 more and would let me use the coupon.
O well live and learn, i will most likly end up using the extra space but $100 for an extra 70gb is a high price.
PS also ordering an anti-glare protector too, trying to find a good one now. -
congrats to you, now comes the waiting game.
if i were you i'd upgrade the CPU,but i forgot how much it'd add.. wont hurt either way -
Has anyone seen any numbers comparing the brightness and color range (% NTFS) between the infinity and the LED screens?
Even comparisson of the LED and the screens for the dv9000 would be helpful.
Has anyone seen a dv4t LED screen side by side with the Apple laptop LED screens???? -
-
The performance increase of the "better processors" was not enough to warrant real world results, for what i will be doing. The 8600 was not that much better then the 8400 looking at comparisons If anything slows me down on this laptop it will be GPU not the CPU.
lllusion-The infinity brightview is bad in my opinion. When i was at frys looking at my future laptop the store lights kept reflecting off the frame into my eyes. I dont need that.
I personally cant stand bright things or reflective covers, hence my choice for the frame and the anti-glare cover i will be getting. Also will be covering certain parts of the laptop in stickers, the touch pad will get a sticky note cover. -
Anyone here configured laptop with X4500 graphics?
I will be using this laptop for work and once in a while watch movies (regular dvd).
Right now I am thinking of swapping graphics card with infinity brightview and 1 extra gb of ram ( 3GB)
Also I read somewhere that the heat may be caused bcoz of nvidia graphics card.
I am really confused here, since it will be once in 3 yrs kind of investment. I own a dv100 CTO bought just after they released around sep 2004 and its still working good.
Please advice -
got my dv4t!!! playing with it,will post things up later.
its definitely warm right now after a series of initialization, but not as warm as my old dell.. -
SWEET cant wait for your review
