Has anyone figured out a way to create or obtain recovery disks for Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)?
I am planning on doing a clean install as soon as i receive my dv5t but ive heard about ppl having problems obtaining recovery disks.
Also, Ive also order neweggs OCZ 4gb memory sticks. They ask for some invoice as well as the ups code to send in along with the rebate. Which ones the invoice. Theres an order page that they immediately brg you to after you order and a few days later theres an email titled Invoice with your #. I am alittle confused as to which one i send them.

I decided to go the conservative route and go with the 25-watt P8400
and X4500. The fan is whisper quiet at all times and never spools up, except for five seconds, when booting. There are absolutely no heat issues with
this combination. I run some pretty resource-intensive programs, such as
Photoshop, and haven't had any problems at all.
Battery life has been very good. Using the balanced power plan, I usually
get a minimum of three hours. If I'm just surfing and doing emails, I can
get another 15-20 minutes. I have found that turning off Aero Transparency
seems to help, so I leave it off.

I feel all nervous now playing TF2 on this without a cooler, I dont want anything to overheat and get damaged..
Should I be alright? Won't have a cooler for atleast a week or so. Looking to order a Zalman possibly next week. -
May I ask if anyone can kindly confirm the HP Part Numbers of:
(1) the regular 6-cell battery for the dv5t
(2) the High Capacity 6-cell battery for the dv5t
thank you very much.
btw, we can all buy the 12-cell on hp.com for $149.99 -
I'll just get the 12 CELL battery from HP. Can anyone confirm it working well?

what 400$ coupon? the one i was going to use on fatwallet expired i believe. Also, somebody to help me mentioned adding memory with this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251
How do you add this? never done anything like that before. They recomended doing it and saving on the memory that hp offers. -
where are you seeing the 12 cell.
-
so i just got my second hp dv5t, first one returned, and im wondering what drivers you guys installed.
-
Chaz I am trying to change my drivers using your guide and im stuck at this step: 4. Now, take that .INF file, and drag it into the extracted drivers folder. Overwrite when prompted.
When I drag the .INF file into the extracted drivers folder I am not propted to overwrite. Is that a problem?? -
Same happened to me. Just re-download the drivers, and try again.
Doesn't sound much like a 'fix' but it did work for me. -
Here's the link for the 12-cell battery for anyone who's interested:

All this talk of heat issues has me extremely worried. I thought that the 9600 was pretty much just a 8600 with less power consumption so it would run cooler. I had a m1530 and thought the heat was a bit excessive but ok. I figured the dv5t would be perfect.
The worst part is that I only play TF2 and probably Spore when it comes out so I spend most of my time on the web and what not. I'm gonna die if I have to return both laptops. I've tried to buy 4 different laptops over summer and yet to get one that could fulfill my basic requirements. -
it doesn't list the dv5t as being compatible with the battery though. did you buy one and used it personally?
-
My dv5t is being shipped! Hopefully it will come by Friday.

It's safe, yes . . . HP wouldn't be able to sell the product if it wasn't.
For best results, get a cooling pad.
Laptops are designed to run at high temperatures. My Sager has been getting this hot for years.
Not sure . . . try installing the drivers by double-clicking the setup.exe file in there.
Otherwise, download the drivers again and redo.
Thanks for the link. I'd like to have the 12-cell, but not for $150 . . . though I suppose that is the going rate for a big battery like that. -
Can't decide between the Zalman NC1000 or NC2000. Any recommendations for this 15" notebook?
-
I failed badly at trying to install new drivers...
-
I just installed my OCZ 2x2(4GB) RAM from newegg, but the computer information still shows 2.00 GB RAM. Do I need to do anything for the computer to recognize it?
-
Isn't the NC2000 the NC1000 for larger laptops (17inch+)? Correct me if I am wrong.
I am also looking at the NC1000 as a cooling solution. Seems to be the best buy, but some reviews have said it did not cool at all.. But if it is a good product and will cool down my laptop I think I am going to order off of newegg tonight.
Side note: I have been enjoying my laptops performance with the 2GB Ram. Am I going to see a large performance boost going to 4GB, or should I just sick with the 2? -
^ X2P had a great comparison between the 2. He recommended the NC2000 for his 15" laptop. I'm getting the NC2000.

hey chaz. i have a little question.. today my dv5t was shipped and picked up from Shanghai, China. i did standard 5-7 days shipping and wondering if it's porssible to get my laptop by this week, if i live in Philly? how long did your laptop took shipped from china?
Since you and i are from same city, lol, i thought you will know something about shipping estimate.
thks. -
Has anyone here have to return their dv5t before and how long did the whole process take? The reason why i'm wondering is cause I received a defective laptop when I got my dv5t in the mail and now i'll have to wait even more before I actually get a working one
I was sooo excited to have received my lappy and now its gone... -
^ Sorry to hear about that. Was it just DOA?
-
Your results may vary, but mine arrived in Florida on a Friday after shipping late on Monday from China. It could very well make it. By Wednesday the Fed-Ex tracking was updated with a 'delivered by' date that stated mine would be there by Friday. Check tomorrow or Wednesday and they should update that estimate for you. Good luck - hope it makes it before the weekend.
-
Does the dv5t have the right fan arrangements to use the NC1000 or 2000 well?
I just may shell out the extra cash for the NC2000. -
Hey guys, I don't want any buyers remorse, so I'm just wondering, can anyone give me the specs of a laptop they think will come out around this time of year in 2009?
Just wondering, because I opted to buy a DV5T instead of waiting another year. -
sorry to hear that. what was your problem if i may ask
-
If you waited until next year, you would then be thinking about this very question and end up waiting another year and maybe even another..
Its an awesome laptop man. Specs are in my sig. I estimate this laptop to treat me well for the next 2-3 yrs before I am itching to get a new one. That is also mainly because I am an electronics junky and I always want new stuff.
The dv5t will treat you well. I am very happy I went with it.
Take good care of you equipment and it will last longer then you think.

Hey I just checked my windows index base score and it said i had to update it and it went from 4.8 to 4.7 wt f*? Under Graphics: desktop performance for windows aero. WHy did it drop and what scores are you guys getting????
Update your score and tell me if it changes like mine? -
does anyone knows if the dv5t's 9600m gt is DDR2 or DDR3???
-
9600M GT is DDR2.
-
the coupon expired almost exactly after i solved my credit card issue and was punching in my order.....im going to kill someone....
-
How come mines still say order in production its been like that for past 3 days already. I ordered on the 13th and it still hasn't shipped. How come everyones getting theres already at... least I know I'll get the hp flash drive tomorrow.
-
I ordered my dv7t on the 10th and it still hasn't shipped yet...
Est. ship date is today so we'll see.... -
Same thing's happening with me. Ordered on the 13th, still says it's in production. It's hard to complain though when they did say it's estimated to ship on the 20th.
-
I think I'm just a little impatient schools coming next week and I wanna have fun with it before then.
-
I just installed 3DMark06 and it had me install some 2005 DX9 things. How do I get everything back to normal DX9 wise, or is it back when I uninstall 3DMark?
-
yeah, that's true,, you can't really complain because they usually follow the estimate ship date. i ordered mine on 10th, and my dv5t is being picked up by fedex staff in Shanghai, China. i hope it will come before weekend lol.
-
it's late...quick note here.
thx all for the Q&A's here. mine arrived this morning and it was a hectic day trying to get the thing ready. i think i'm all set for a clean re-install tomorrow. today was a long day of preparations. yes, the machine is really rather attractive. i'm not so sure about the build quality as i have used my IBM Thinkpad T40p for 4 years! (the T40p has a magnesium frame, etc) it certainly appears as though this is plenty well built.
fedex was quite a bit faster than expected: expected arrival Wed and instead, it arrived this morning around 9:15am.
i'll check for dead/stuck pixels, and other things like the eSATA port tomorrow after my reinstall.
tired already so i'll try to complete it by tomorrow so at last i can play with it. today was a day of "working on it" and having zero fun. the Restore/Recovery DVD's worked out with no issues. Followed the prompts that was in the booklet that came with it. The 2 dvd's did take quite a long time though and it appears as though after writing, the dvd player/writer decided to verify TWICE before ejecting the dvd and pronouncing it "done/ready"! i guess it pays to be really really sure about it when it clearly says that you can ONLY burn one set of these discs! -
I know I will rarely play games on this so is it still really a good idea to buy a laptop cooler? Probably will be using the computer in the lap
-
What GPU will your laptop have? With a 9600m GT, there is still a nice amount of warmth without gaming.
My girlfriend has a dv5t with integrated gfx, runs so cool its not even funny. I would get 3rd degree burns if I had my laptop in my lap.
-
Just hooked up the Logitech v470 mouse. Works like a charm, took about 5 seconds to connect. If you stop using the mouse after 30 seconds, there's a slight delay when using it again, but its barely noticeable. I highly recommend.
-
I think the performance of the 9600m GT will be worth the heat. I'm used to having something hot on my lap anyway.
-
I just have the 9200 GS...on a side note, this will be my first laptop outside of IBM (I have a T41p and T60p from work)....I'm a little nervous about the build quality but can't beat the price - 1000 including blue-ray drive
-
Maybe one out of every 50 situations I will have my laptop in my lap. Its always on my desk when its being used at home. When school starts and if I decide to bring it to school with me I will have it on some form of desk or table, not my lap.
And yes, the 9600m GT is worth the heat.
Got TF2 running awesome, and Crysis demo ran pretty decent on high res medium settings.
So far this notebook feels good. It doesn't have that cheap feel to it. Like I stated many times, if you take care of it you'll have nothing to worry about.
-
My problem was something so ridiculous... it was a defective keyboard. My "g", "h" and backspace key were rendered useless and the only way for HP to fix it was to return my laptop for a brand new one. I didn't have too much trouble waiting for my laptop when it was being build but now it is worse seeing it go away after I just received it
-
I hear ya...out of curiosity, what are those "take care of it" kind of things
-
In general just take care of your laptop. Turn it off when its not being used. When having it mobile, be careful to not drop it. Clean up unused software (CCleaner). Don't have food and drinks around it.
Just normal everyday things. -
Rusch, whats your opinion on hibernating from day to day? (like just closing the lid as opposed to a full shutdown)
