yea mine was too but that is just a precaution if Fedex is shipping anything deadly from china it will be isolated in alaska and not hit the lower 48 before hitting canada. Its for your protection.

its flown from china to anchorage; what im wondering is why mine got built so fast (5 days) when its supposed to take 9 business days, i do hope they didn't rush and sacrificed on build quality, i dont want to see any loose screws or badly assembled parts.

Alaska has a large airport there that acts as a hub for flights between Asia and the US. One reason why its Alaska is because its the faster route between the US and Asia (theres some wind currents there that help aircraft flying that route)

Wow... Although I ordered dv4t, I'm jealous of some of you guys.
I still have more than a week, but I can't wait...

But, it seems like only a few days are left for some of you...

    Urgent question!!!

There is a sale going on for 19" LCD monitor that looks very nice. Does the dv5t support dual-monitor usage? I didn't buy the 1600x1050 resolution screen, which I regret, so I'd like to get an external monitor for multitasking needs. So, is this feature even supported? And if it is, will my P9600 CPU, 9600M GT, and 4GB Memory be able to handle the original notebook monitor along with the extra monitor with EASE?

    Thanks!

I just ordered a dv5t today, I got the 1680x1050 display, was this a good choice? I'm just hoping its not going to be too high resolution. I also did not get the infinity display cause I wasn't sure if it was worth the extra 50 bucks. Do you think that I made the right choice? I'm so excited to get it though!

how much hotter do you think the 256mb 9200m gs will run than the integrated graphics media accelerator? Will the benefit be substantial for a non-gamer who watches movies and that kind of thing? Thanks!

Hey, sorry if this is old news, but the last time I checked the HP website this wasn't available, so...for those interested (little too expensive for me, but :p ) in the xb4 docking station, http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/notebook/notebook_hp/dock_solutions/1/accessories/KG461AA%23ABA seems to be available, priced at $249.99.

Sorry I'm definitely not the most qualified here to answer your questions, but since it's urgent...I DO think the dv5t supports dual-monitors and I may be wrong here...but I think it has an HDMI out, so as long as your 19'' LCD monitor is connected via HDMI it should work. (Please get confirmation on this before jumping on that sale). And if those are all chill, I'm pretty sure your dominating computer specs there should be able to handle the extra monitor with ease (at least my friend's old dv9000 whatever was able to handle dual monitors easily, with way worse specs than yours). =)

And as for the 1680x1050, a lot of people on here believe it to be very good for productivity, some say the icons are a little too small. It's really up to preference, and if you're not too picky I'm sure it's something you can grow used to. The infinity display you're probably going to have to see in person to judge. Once again, some say it's just showy and produces too much glare, others say it looks pretty good. Sorry this probably didn't help too much but that's what I've gathered from the forums so far. Either way you got a really cool laptop so congrats!

P.S. sorry for long post, just fixed it from a double post though.

Hey thanks for the reply eyun, definitely answered my question with the dv9000! I think I'll jump on this deal before it's over. $139.99 for 19" LCD monitor w/ built in speakers and HDMI is pretty hot deal. :p

My was shipped according to hp at sometime around 11pm last night, fedex didn't have anything on the tracking number until sometime after 5am this morning. Now all i see is the tracking number, th shipment date and the status as shipment exception, not so much as the country its heading to. The activity shows that it first left fedex origin facility and then it was picked up a minute later(received after fedex cutoff). has anyone else had an experience like this, is it thats its really early in the shipping process because i cant even see the weight of the package.

So after numerous times touting the Costco return policy, I decided to go with HP. I cancelled my order at Costco and used the student discount and 5% off coupon, and got the 3 year ADP warranty, and in total cost $75 more. I figured with 2 children under 3yrs, it was a good idea.

    Windows Vista 32 bit
    P8600 2.4 GHz
    9600 GT card
    Intel AGN wifi and bluetooth
    1680 *1050 display
2 GB ram (soon to be 4GB)
    webcam, mic, fingerprint reader
    320GB HD
3 year warranty w accidental damage

    After tax, $1543.95

The downside, it won't be until Aug 11th. One more week of wait, but school doesn't start until Aug 28th. Cant wait!!

I received my dv5t this morning. Unfortunately, it arrived with a French keyboard :( All of my other specs are correct, however. Does anybody know how to approach this aside from calling HP and getting it fixed? I don't know if this is a repair situation or if they should be sending me a new notebok. I need the notebook soon, so I'd prefer not to send it in for repair...Any help from people with experience with this sort of thing would be greatly appreciated.

^^ Learn french :) Just kidding, that doe's suck. I wonder if you called HP and just had them ship you the right keyboard if they'd let you replace it without any issues? Otherwise shipping it and all you should be compensated.

It'd be great if I could do that. The keyboard is useable, it's just an annoyance...you'd think if they can get all the rest of the hardware right they can install the right keyboard...really irritating.

If possible, you might want to change your order to vista 64 bit--32 bit will only recognize up to 3gb of ram, wheres 64 will recognize the 4gb you're upgrading to.

And, while we're on the subject of ram, I'm getting a dv4t but I figure the dv4t and dv5t will use the same type of ram--so could anyone provide a link to the ram on newegg that I should get if I"m upgrading from 2 to 4, also? Thanks!

i have a 6700 and have a question regarding the dv5t. Does anyone know if them memroy is still under the pad? I bought my 6700 with 2 gb of memory and upgraded via new egg to 4gb with the kingston hyper x performance memory but the pad gets very hot. If i get a dv5t with the standard 4gb from hp will i dtill have these heat issues?? Is it the high end memory or just how the system runs?

also is the consensus of the group here that the infinity display has too much glare and is not a good upgrade?

and finally, the hybrid tuner. Is it completely internal? Does it have an external antenna that connects to the lapyop? I really cant find much info on it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out. Really looking forward to getting a dv5t. Love my 6700 buut cant resist the new nvidia card and the higher resolution.

    Thanks again.

Actually, Vista 32 bit with SP1 will now see 4gb of ram, however its been debated whether or not it uses all 4gb though. You want to get DDR2 800 (PC6400) memory. This 4gb kit is a decent price with a $25 dollar rebate.

    Selected Features:

    * Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz)
    * 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    * 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    * Upgrade to Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    * HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner

Thank you in advance for any help. I am a newbie to notebooks as this will be my first purchase and these forums have been a great help.

I am really interested in the blu-ray, HDTV tuner, and graphics card options.
1)Can the notebook be used as a blu-ray player, sending a 1080p signal to an HDTV?
    2) Does the HDTV tuner get similar reception to a home external antenna? In other words, how reliable is the signal strength?
3)If my main concern with graphic capabilities is being able to watch and output HD1080p, is 9600 graphics card going to perform noticeably better?
    4) I am not sure which processor to get? Is the P8400 sufficient? How important is that?

Thank you again...I cant wait to pull the trigger!

Hey everybody, I got mine this morning too! I just unpacked it, booting up now . . . I will do a clean install later. I want to check out some stuff first.

So far, it is flawless and I love how it looks.
I don't think it is worth it to get the dedicated card if you don't have any use for 3D graphics. It will only produce more heat (how much I don't know unfortunately) and use more power, decreasing your battery life.

How much bloatware is typical for an HP laptop? I don't see a lot on here compared to Toshiba . . . I guess I will do a clean install anyway.

Yeah, I'm well aware of the 32 bit 3GB issue. I got Vista 32 because I have some older software I use regularly that I know works under 32 bit and didn't want to chance it with installers and stuff. I bought the OCZ ram on newegg here:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251

Besides, part of my HD will be 64 bit linux (ubuntu or fedora 9) - hopefully I can find all the drivers.

I'll just upgrade to Vista 64 when I actually need it.

I ordered mine on July 15 and it was shipped on the 25th, so no, not surprisingly early. I'm really surprised that this happened, nobody else has said anything about it.

I contacted HP customer support and they told me that they are going to send me a replacement keyboard, which I found surprising, but I'm not complaining as long as it's easy to replace. I did this on the phone, but does anybody know if the order they put in should appear on my account? It doesn't at this time, and I haven't received an email about it or anything; I'm worried that the order was never actually put in.

My brother just recently got a dv2700t and I was surprised that there was not as much bloatware as there has been in the past. Just go to the windows uninstall utility and remove anything you don't want. It comes with Norton which needs to be removed with this to completely get rid of it:

My local Best Buy has a Vista 64-bit dv5t with all the options, including
a dedicated graphics card. It had already been running for at least
four hours, before I got to mess around with it. I was surprised at how
cool it was. I checked out the palm rest, touchpad, and other areas,
and none felt hot, at all.

My dv5t, with integrated graphics, is due to ship around August 8.
After I get it, I'll post my findings, with regard to heat, etc.

I bought my dv5t with the 5% off coupon and the student discount and got it for $1212, not including tax. These are the specs I got.

    - Intel Core2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
    - 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ Display (1680 x 1050)
    - 2GB Ram (upgrading to 4GB once I get the computer)
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    - HP Imprint Finish + Microphone + Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    - Intel WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth
    - High speed 56K modem port
    - 320GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
    - DVD+/-R/RW
    - High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

It seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

It seems like everyone (who has not received his or her dv5t or even who will not purchase dv5t) is waiting for someone to post some pictures of dv5t :)

The dv5t looks exactly the same as the dv5z, which we reviewed here:

That should hold you over in the mean time. :)

As far as heat goes, mine has been on for several hours (I am doing a clean install now), and it's staying cool. The surface is about lukewarm, nothing alarming. The bottom gets quite warm but that is expected.

Here you go. My primary goal was a PC with good speed, good storage
capability, and good battery life. Since I don't game, I went for the
integrated graphics, which consumes less power than a dedicated card.
I also used coupon NB3089 for an additional 5% off.
