Question for you guys. I have alot of tiny scratch marks around the edge of my Infinity display. They are NOT on the screen, but on the black part all the way to the edge. They go all the way around. I just noticed them tonight, as this was my first time having the laptop in bright light. Do you think I'm being too nit picky if I call them about this? I am seriously thinking about returning it, as I configured a relatively expensive system. They don't cause me any 'disfunction' of the laptop, though. It is purely a 'looks' issue. I would probably keep it with some kind of credit, but $1300 for scratch marks doesn't seem quite right to me.
Opinions welcome. -
Id like to say that it will.
-
Well yeah, that's why I stated my cpu and gpu since you neglected yours. Was just wondering. Still though, your on top of a comforter where it restricts air flow and absorbs the heat, while i'm on a wooden desk with 1.5 inches raised on the back.

Can someone please tell me if my graphics card can be upgraded later down the road? Does HP make their graphic cards like DELL in which they are soldered to the motherboard? I bought HP DV5T w/ 256MB Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS graphics card. P8600, 4gigs RAM etc.. I'm kind of second guessing I should of bought the 512 instead. Thanks in advance. Sorry if this was discussed already this HP forum isn't easy to find anything.
-
It is not possible to upgrade graphic cards on HP laptops, so if u want the 9600m gt, return ur current lappy and get a new one.
-
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated =).
-
If you are a heavy gamer or plan to play any games down the road, I would future proof your notebook and go with the 9600M GT.
Everything else you got going (CPU and RAM) will be more than enough. Get that better GPU in there and you will be set.
-
Yea tht is true, just for future proofing, as I said b4 it is not possible to change gpu's in HP lappys, so u r better off in spending a lil bit extra $ and get tht GPU upgrade (only if u think u r a heavy gamer)
-
I made the same mistake you did.
I bought my dv5t with the P8600, 3GB RAM, and 9200M GS for $1122. I returned it three days ago and still waiting for the credit.
I purchased instead a dv5t with the P8600, 3GB RAM, and 9600M GT for $975 (30% off). -
hi i ordered my Hp dv5t a couple days ago was wondering if u can help me,
it says estimated build date= Sept 9
when do u think i will get it?
i also paid for the 2 day shipping -
Heh, you shouldn't have paid for the extra shipping. Standard free shipping is always enough.
I ordered my laptop on August 5th. Estimated build date was the 14th. It was built like the 10th or 11th, and I got it on the 14th.
-
i found that out on the forums, and i also got the laser mouse, and the courier bag are those gud?
-
They may be.
I personally wouldn't buy a laser mouse and bag through HP. That's just my personal opinion though, not saying their products are bad.
Good..
-
Hey guys -
I just ordered a new DV5T on Saturday, with the 30% off coupon... figures that now they are offering the 3GB memory upgrade free, I only got the 2GB.
Anyway, one thing I did not even think of checking on when I purchased the laptop was access to an air card, which my office loans out for those of us who travel for work. Ours are the old-school Type II CardBus style slots, as opposed to the newer ones that HP evidently uses. Is there any way to make the computer backwards compatible, since I doubt my office will be buying any new air cards and this is a somewhat important function for me.
Thanks. -
You would have to see if there is maybe an external device that can be hooked up to allow an aircard to be inserted. Im not sure if those are available..
I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but is it possible it can be inserted where the Windows Media remote goes?
Sorry I couldn't be of much help.. -
i have an old pcmcia pc card device and it does not go all the way in so it won't work. it stops at the indent that you see on the express slot. it will not reach the pins
-
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
it wont work - the interface has changed entirely.
go here - http://www.synchrotech.com/products/media-adapters-pcmcia-memory-cards_00.html
there is an adapter you can use. i would either look on that site or call the company and ask which product will work for you. -
I just got my dv5t and was doing a bit of clean up, which programs should I remove? Can I take out IDT audio or Synaptics?
-
I would leave IDT and remove Synaptics but it is your choice. IDT Audio is the driver for your audio system. Synaptics is the driver for your touchpad. I rarely (never) use the touch pad so I removed its drivers. Still works but it doesn't have all the "special features". I also made it so the IDTTray.exe didn't load on startup.

All I really want to do is, Video edit home movies using "PINNACLE STUDIO 11 ULTIMATE" , Copy movies, edit photos in "Photoshop" & download music. Do you still think I should upgrade my laptop? I don't really plan on playing games on here. -
I think u shd be ok with the 9200 with the above mentioned uses.
-
Thanks, but the "should" doesn't sound to reassuring!
-
OK, you WILL be OK with that config. A 256 M GPU is all you'll need for Pinnacle.
JohnG -
I did some more digging, and found this - http://www.addonics.com/products/host_controller/adexc34cb.asp - which seems like it will get the job done.
Or, I may beg my computer guys to buy a Sprint AirCard that is ExpressCard-sized. -
Thanks Johnny, Thats the answer I was looking for. I'm going to keep my Laptop then.
-
No luck getting the $$ back for the blueray player. The coupon must have expired, so HP thinks they are safe on the return ploy as without the coupon, it will be more expensive.
Scott -
so since i cant afford to exchange my 1280x800 for a 1680x1050 laptop im going to go for the next best thing which is an external monitor
what cable do i need? theres an hdmi and vga input on my external 22 inch monitor i tried the hdmi input along with the dv5t on the external but every res was too wide so some of the left and ride side of the screens were off the monitor
the only res that kinda worked was the 17 somethin by 968 and it wasnt widescreen so there were black borders along all 4 sides -
Ordered a HP DV5T on Saturday, replacing my Dell E1705 that blew up...
Build date of Sept 9th, but hopefully it will happen sooner. -
Hi Tony, the only way is to try to use the laptop as you would daily and then make a judgment for yourself. since HP has a pretty good 21 day return policy, take advantage of it. All we have are specs and our conjectures based on those specs
-
hey i need everyone's opinion, when i was checking the laptop to see if there were any defects, i noticed on the rightclick touch pad there was a paint chip. what should i do should i just keep it or replace it? i can't stop looking at it
-
Stop looking at it.
-
If it bothers you that much, I'd replace your laptop - though based on others horror stories of HP repair you might end up getting scratches in other places, so take lots of pics before you send it off
-
Depends where you live. My unit arrived in So. Cal 3 days ahead of the stated delivery date on FedEx's tracking page - but the build was not completed until the listed build date.
With all the back to school orders, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high about early completion on the build. -
I think most folks experience is that once its shipped, it gets here in 2-3 business days anyway. Mine shipped on a Friday and got here on Tuesday
-
I called too because I ordered a laptop on Saturday -- I was nice because I've worked in customer service and don't treat CSRs like crap -- and the rep I spoke to said the most they could do was $35 because that's their limit.
-
The credit really varies. Last time I called and indian CS picked up the call. She is nice that she gave me $80 for the 2GB - 3GB ram thing.
You may try to reject and recall again until a nicer lady picks up the phone? Not sure if it helps. -
Right. I just called and got $50 dollar credit. I was hoping they could send me the memory outright as I could use the memory, but I guess I can use the $50 dollars towards buying 4 GB memory
I guess word to the wise is to be nice and courteous and they should help you out. +1 for HP service! -
You're right! It just depends on what rep you get. Called back and explained to another rep and she gave me the $50 credit no problem. She just said not to expect it until I've actually received my laptop (I just ordered last week).
-
You might want to check out this mem deal. This is what I ordered. No rebate required!!

Are these computers shipped with a sig required at delivery? I'll be out of town on likely day of delivery.
JohnG -
4 weeks later...
mine finally shipped today!
is there a list of recommended drivers for xp (i see there is a sticky for vista but not xp) for a clean install? usually the first thing i do when i get a new computer is reformat with my custom xp -
I did have to sign for mine.
-
I believe signature required...or else go to your nearest FedEx depot(For me its 25 mins away)
-
Anyone have any idea of what drivers I should get from Latopvideo2go.com?
I have the 9600gt. I am completely lost while looking at their site. -
Good to see that there are people having a good experience with this model.
Thanks for the input. -
hey do any of you have a slightly uneven base. i can kind ofpush the part near the finger print reader down and hear it knock on the table but taht's it
-
Okay, so I got the free 3gb mem upgrade.. let's just say I wanted to upgrade to 4gigs someday.. how would I do it? Can I just buy one module of 2gb??? Does it work that way?
-
any one find out if there is an angled power conector?
-
No, you will need to get 2x 2GB sticks. I don't think you will be able to reuse the 3GB.
-
No word yet.
