Hey Cable - was this a new replacement? I'd send that bad boy back and demand a new one, that's ridiculous!

Congrats dv5t owners - we all helped to make the dv5t reach the #1 spot for August 2008 on NotebookReview.com :D
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4577
I don't understand your first question, but your second question: no, it will not hurt to leave the notebook plugged in.
    There always is. ;)
As JohnG noted, the upgraded video card won't help you if you are not gaming. I'd go with the Intel X4500. dv5t owners with that graphics card have reported the notebook runs extremely cool and quiet.

For anyone that is hesitating about buying one of these because of the trackpad. Don't worry about it, especially if you have this taste from a display model in the store. A new one is actually nice and very smooth. My sweaty palms have no problem on the glossy trackpad. The only thing I miss is two finger scrolling from my iBook.

Yep, it's a replacement. My first one had some dead pixels and now this one has some cosmetic damage. Not sure what I'm going to do. It may not be worth going through HP Support to return it.

So I was just looking at the new HP news on the main page. The Niv. graphics cards worry me. Will my GT suffer a massive meltdown?

Why wouldn't it be? Unless you really have to have a laptop now, you are paying full price for something that's already defected. I would at least call and ask them to discount it for being damaged(I wonder how this ever passed QC)

I wanted to mention too, if you have enough credit card space to pay for two laptops.. I would have them send you a laptop and only return the defective one once you get the new one.. and hey, if it takes them five times, then so be it.. they should get it right and as consumers we should expect that. The only pain would be having to set up each new computer (a pain for some.. but I love that process).

Why would it be if it's the same laptop? It's pretty much the same laptop except it was exchanged due to cosmetics.

Wouldn't it make sense to use what is on that particular laptop - unless we know for sure that some other software didn't change on their load image, it wouldn't hurt, unless you are strapped for blank media...

That's what I'm doing currently waiting for one that is WXGA+ , but in my mind we have 21 days to make sure its perfect (kinda of like buying a house, if you don't settle it before closing, then its your problem)

You should call. I just got off the phone with them. I called a week ago when a coupon change made it cheaper and they issued me a $109 credit. I called today, because my 21 day return time is almost up and a few days ago, I noticed that my infinity brightview display has small scratch marks around the edge (not the screen itself, the black part that is tapered at the very edge. I debated calling on this, as it did not affect the function of the screen and they were only visible in bright light. I decided that I had paid for a laptop and wanted it right. I was very nice to the Indian CSR (who was also very polite and spoke good English). She credited me another $130 to avoid the hassle of a return. That was a very fair offer, in my opinion, so I accepted.

That brought the total price of the laptop down to $968.77 including taxes. That is a great deal for 2.4Ghz/9600GT/Infinity Display/4 Gig Ram (from HP).

I know most people only report the horror stories, but I feel the service has been quick and better than expected. Each call took less than 5 minutes.

Any idea if I will fit laptop to the "Belkin Neoprene Pixilated Sleeve up to 15.4" ??

    Since dimensions of sleeve are:
    Dimensions: 15.4" Sleeve
    Exterior: 3mm Neoprene 12.4" x 14.6" x 1.25"
    Interior: 11.25" x 14.8" x 0.8"

    And of laptop :
    Dimensions
    6 cell: 14.05" (W) x 10.2" (D) x 1.37" (min H)/1.65" (max H)

So the height does not match :-$...

if you can not simply snap it back then it is possible that you have damaged the hinge clip that goes between the key cap and the bottom board.

I got them both snapped in, now they're just uneven. The top is sticking up on both of them. Is that bad, or is there a way to even them out?

I've posted this twice before and some others have posted this as well, but so far, no answers yet.

May i ask if anyone knows of a right angle power plug adapter for the dv5t? all i'm trying to do is to reduce the clearance needed for the right side of the laptop.

it's really a very simple, "passive" adapter plug, merely a right angle "male" on one end, and "female" on the other end.

the way it is currently, it sticks out around 2 1/2" which is really silly. HP took all this effort to make an attractive laptop with many "nods" to good design and sort of dropped the ball on this detail. it's not like they have to invent this: Apple and many others have invented this for them already with their magnetic right angle plugs. even if they choose to NOT make theirs magnetic, they can make it right angled so the clearance required is not as extreme as it is currently.

sorry for the rambling but it is a laptop plug that requires the MOST clearance of any that i've seen.

They don't just snap on.. I tried that and it just wouldn't work - my 14-year-old son studied the key mechanism (the 2 white "thingys") and figured it out.. so I'm sure you will. I'll betcha you could google "how to put on keyboard keys" lol and find it.

HP is going to ship me another replacement. They included the 3GB RAM upgrade. All previous coupons will be applied. So my 2nd one is going out to FedEx this Friday. I'm keeping my original dv5t (with the dead pixels) until the 3rd one arrives. Fun stuff I tell you. Good thing I'm patient.

Bluetooth is one of those things you won't miss if you don't use it but wished that you had when you need it :)

You can always buy a USB/Bluetooth reciever in the future, it'll just take up on USB slot

the lights are on indicating its charging and the icon says its charging as well but everytime i check it the % says the same
edit:ic then i wont bother with it for now also this charging thing gives me another good excuse to justify getting a replacement laptop lol

2nd edit: ok now its finally charging power actually went up to 14%

Hey, new here. Just ordered my dv5t on the 28th of Aug. It says "Order in production (Estimated to ship on September 8, 2008)", should i expect it to be here on the 8th or like 5-7 days later?

Another question for the people who called in for the 50$ credit for the free 3GB ram upgrade, did you guys have to give any info to them? eg:credit card number, etc? Thanks! Can't wait for it to come.

justin, I just got mine in today and the mute was stuck on orange. I just downloaded the touch driver and then uninstalled the current driver. I rebooted and installed the new one, it works perfectly now.

If it says it is expected to ship on the 8th then you should hopefully receive it by that friday the 12th. At least that was the time frame that worked on my order.

I can't give you a sure answer, but i'll give you my experience. I ordered my current dv5t on Aug 12, estimated shipping date was the 21st. During my time, people were receiving it early, they got it possibly even before the expected shipping date. Mine was shipped on the 19th, and i received it on the 21st. Right now, i ordered via phone for a replacement on Aug 28, my expected ship date (shipped, not already here) is on Sep 5th, which is tomorrow. It still hasn't ship, so the difference from the one i own right now and the one that's suppose to ship. I got the product on expected SHIP date, while it shipped 2 days early. Right now, it seems i won't be getting an early shipping, and it hasn't shipped yet.

On the 50$ credit, i called asking if i could get the RAM added. The lady suggested she didn't want to make it so troublesome and she would just credit me back 50$. She didn't ask for anything, they probably already have your credit card/debit/paypal on file. It's expected to be credited when I receive the laptop.
