I received two dv5ts both aligned perfectly...I'm wondering if people were complaining and HP fixed it on more recent builds....then again I could be waaaay off

It may also depend on availability of parts. Some configurations I noticed are quicker than others. Also the first time I ordered it estimated 10 days out...the second time I ordered it was 7 days out. In general, HP is more conservative about its estimate, i.e. the laptops come quicker than they usually said

okay so I'm sort of new here but, can someone (moderator).....please post up a link to that clean vista install page...I forgot where I saw it.

I'm getting a new dv5t this week and can't wait to get my fingers on it. I recently got a tx2500z but OMG that thing got super loud and super noisy so I return it and saw that $500 off and used it to get the dvt5 instead. OMG can't wait

JMO, this process seems insanely complicated and one I won't be doing. :p
I just stripped out the bloatware and the computer is running fine.

Insanely complicated? Hardly. I think you may be thrown by the wordiness of the document. Here's the Cliff's notes:

    1. Backup your SWSetup folder on a DVD.
    2. Use the ABR tool to get the Vista license (this is NOT the one on the sticker on your computer).
    3. Put the Vista disc in.
    4. Restore your Vista license.
    5 Reload your drivers.

It takes maybe an hour, and it's not like you have to sit and watch the screen. Make some popcorn and down a couple of beers.

yup, i did the clean install and it was super easy.
all u need is the ABR and Vista disc.

the only thing i dun like is the doing the recovery disc. it is so time consuming.
did 2 partition and Vista was installed.

its easy, its just time consuming but its worth it.

i used my roomies Vista Business Disc Kit (for upgrade only). i used the ABR and it worked awesomely. thanks to the write-up. i first read which disc to use but it was sooooooooooooo long, i skipped it and tried if roomies Vista Business works. unfortunately, its a 32-bit while i ordered the 64-bit originally.

oh, well !!! it doesnt matter anyway now. i can live with 32-bit vista. not a really big deal.

Just a quick question on the pre installed bloatware:

Is it really necessary to do a clean install of vista, or can you get rid of most or all of the bloatware using a good uninstall utility?

It seems like the clean install route is overkill!?

    Any opinions?

Thanks, I was just eager to find out if some changes to settings made it possible to some other owners of these dv 4,5,7 series notebooks.

For anybody who would be interested in it, I found a vista gadget (BatteryMonitor.gadget) which works pretty well to calculate the time remaining. It is reviewed pretty well and i find it a nice to have. You do have to drain it partly/completely in your preferred power scheme for it to be able to caliberate and calculate time there after. Here is the link to the gadget.

I did get a price adjustment. I ordered for a 200$ 'stackable' discount coupon. Now with 500$ off coupon it comes 75$ cheaper. I called HP. Tried 3 agents till i got to a friendly agent. And i got a 75$ credit posted on my credit card. ;)

I guess its always been a mixed play of patience and luck with getting things done from HP agents.

    Nobody here will know.

You will just have to keep checking the link at the top of this site.

EDIT: HP has just dropped the base price on the DV5T by $50. Also dropped the upgrade cost for the GPU's by $50.

Hello! I'm new here. I just ordered the dv5t last week with these specs:

    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
    - 15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
    - 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    - FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    - Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN
    - SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    - High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    It came out to $1,428.99 - $500 coupon + tax = $994.02!

Overall, it was an awesome deal, but I'm regretting not getting the WSXGA+ (1680x1050). It's shipping tomorrow, so it's too late to call and try to make changes. Is it worth the hassle to exchange it? And if I do, will my $500 off coupon (now expired) still apply to the new configuration?

Oh, in addition to the $50 price drop that johnnymg2 mentioned, HP also changed the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN to Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card. I'm a noob, what's the difference? Is it any better?

If you ordered before the pair of $50 reductions do you think it's possible to call them and get $100 credit for them?

abl3051, I doubt you can use the 500 if you decide to return the product since it already reached it's limit. Try calling HP.

As for the Intel Next-Gen it's still the 5100AGN, same exact thing. Just click on the "Help Me Decide" option and you'll see it described as a 5100AGN.

I also regret not getting the 1680x1050 screen but when I think about it, I do have my laptop about 3-4 feet when I'm at home. I have bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I use.

I did get the Infinity WXGA display.

Not sure what post your looking at, but that's incorrect. If he used a 500$ coupon and wanted to exchange for another, he could return the first one and still use that 500$ coupon because of the exchange. If it's a brand new product, then no.

Clean install takes less time than uninstalling bloatware and cleans it up better. You don't need to. I couldn't since I don't have any vista discs available.

The speaker grill issue is almost nothing. I bet if all were like that no one would really care. it almost looks like it could be made like that (like that's where the grill snaps on by design sorta thing).

    Hi Guys

It's been a while since I posted, but just wanted to give you an update on my dv5t now that I've used it a for a while. My replacement came and the speaker grill was aligned perfectly on the right and almost perfect on the left..happy with that. Love the upgrade of video card from x4500. Though I only got the 9200, I'm glad I made the upgrade.
I don't notice heat much at all and I use the laptop on my lap quite frequently. I'm not taking temperatures, but with the 9200 while not using any heavy 3d graphics, mine is quite cool while using on my lap. The keys are still a little clicky for my liking, the volume still has some qurky things about it, but all in all, I'm very pleased.

How does everyone find playing DVD's? Mine runs quite hot but it runs fine when I'm playing games if I installed to disk.

When my speakers activate and switch off I hear a slight pop, I used to think it happened just randomly but once they're on it's fine so I can live with that. So long as it means the speakers aren't on their way out.

    Thanks for heads up...........

That is actually my main concern - heat issue. I order same kind of system with the 512MB GPU. The sale representative made a note just in case any heat issue I can exchange with 9200MB GPU.

Okay guys, my notebook is at the Fedex center near my house. Just got here at 6:30 am.

But the expected delivery isn't until Wednesay. What are teh chances they ship it today? Will Fedex hold it at the location until Wednesday? That would p*ss me off! Its at the facility that always delivers to me.

The disks that you can pay for HP to make for you or you can make for yourself using their Recovery software is a complete disk image, i.e. not a suitable for a clean vista installation

Luckily I have access to MSDN and was able to use that to create the clean image. Otherwise, I would check the sticky for Clean Install that's at the top of this forum for more details

Anyone else order on 9/15 with a ship date for today 9/22? I've been checking the site all day and it still says "order in production." They're probably backed up with orders since a lot of people seemed to have taken advantage of the $500 off coupon. Hopefully mine won't be delayed.

Also, I mentioned earlier that I might exchange mine for the bigger resolution (1680x1050). I think a couple other people here did that, as well...So my question is, does HP just charge you the difference for the upgrade, or do they charge you for a whole new laptop (and then refund you for the old one once it's returned)? I'm curious because I don't want to have two laptops on my credit card.

Waiting is gonna be tough, but I think it'll be worth it. I checked out some of the preconfigured dv5t's with WXGA at WorstBuy this weekend. The lower res looks decent enough, but when I opened a couple of windows, I felt claustrophobic, so I think I'm gonna need that extra screen space.

I was on the fence about the two different resolutions and I'm so glad I went with WXGA+. I think it's definitely worth it. Perfect resolution for a 15.4", I think.

Just a tip to all with a WXGA screen, if you want to scroll less online, you can always make the webpage smaller by holding ctrl + scroll wheel on mouse. Moving either way makes it bigger or smaller.

Ello ello all, haven't posted here at NBR in awhile, school and work has me swamped.

How is everyone enjoying their dv5t's? Just read a few posts back about a $500 coupon, can't believe it..everyone and their mother should be buying one of these for the prices you can get.

I was one of the early adopters.. :D No $400 off, 30%, or $500. You are all lucky to be getting such low prices. :D

Anyways, just wanted to stop by and see how all the new owners are enjoying their notebooks. I am still loving mine!

Ordered my new toy the other day. 46 inch Samsung 1080p LCD HDTV. :D

Can't wait to hook my dv5t via HDMI to that sucker.

I guessing there is a problem with my computer or browsers that prevent me from customizing any laptop on the hp site. it gives me an error " We're sorry The page you're trying to reach is unavailable. To continue, please go to HP's home page, or HP's Home & Home Office Store". Ive tried customizing on chrome, firefox, and ie. none worked and i cant think of a possible solution for this :[
