This is up to your bank, not HP. You may be able to speed this up by contacting the bank and letting them know you canceled the order.

    Greetings

Do a google search on this issue.

I'm somewhat sure that all Vista disks are the same. The only difference being the activation code #. It's this # that determines whether you run 32 bit or 64 bit. If that is the case you may only have to do a "repair" and replace the activation # to get to 64 bit.

Again, I'm sure there are geeks all over the net that have discussed this in detail.

I know this doesn't help you but perhaps it will encourage others to go 64 at the start.

    good luck
    JohnG

Just wanted to say that I've had my dv5t for about 3 weeks now and I absolutely love it. By far the best laptop I have ever owned and it has lived up to all of my expectations. Heat is not an issue unless gaming and not even close to the issues I had on my Dell E1705 and when I'm at my desk, my Pacific Breeze cooling fans make it a non issue.

I may invest in a cooling pad just to keep the airflow going when I actually use it on my lap, but it's more of a cautious/prudent move than a need.

I'm expecting that toy in coiple days. All I wanna say if I see any heat issues with this baby I will send it back righe away. I'm not using cooling pad's. They are not comfortable with my lap desk and regular wireless mouse at the side. Too much staff on my laps. Hopefully will be OK. I won't be gaming with this but it will ON for all day. I order:

    - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9600 (2.80GHz)
    - 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)
    - 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    - 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
    - 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - Webcam Only
    - HP Color Matching Keyboard
    - Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth(TM)
    - No Modem
    - SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    - No TV Tuner w/remote control
    - High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    - Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    - HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

As long as you are not gaming, heating shouldn't be an issue tomy. Might get warm if its on all day/ if you watch movies or do something graphic intensive. Btw why 4gb of ram with 32bit vista?

What do you mean by lap-desk?

IMO, the bottom vents aren't positioned very well for use "on a lap": AKA legs.

Your build has the 'hot' processor and GPU so it will have a fair bit of heat generated and that translates to warmish chassis temps. That will be NO problem for the HW but it will run warm while laying on your legs. The handrest also runs a bit warm on the DV5T. That's the nature of these pups: There's a lot of power lurking in there. :p

I thought You guys are fimilar with lab desks. They are very convinient but having a cooler pad on is is kind of not fun thing.

Anyway, thanks for your responses. I will see what I'm going to do. If it will get warm I will return it and swap GPU Card to 9200 with the same CPU and RAM. Hopefully this system will run cool.

Wow. That was quick. I got off the phone with HP around 2:30 to get my price adjustment using the 500 dollar coupon(I had a 30% off) and they refunded me the difference. Kudos to HP so far - I'm enjoying my laptop and the price adjustments is the cherry on top. If this thing will last 3-4 years I'll be a HP customer for life!

FWIW -I inquired about a 32bit to 64bit OS swap and a couple CSRs confirmed that it'd require a return on the laptop...oh well. I'll just hang on to 32bit for now, get the 4 GB ram while its cheap and wait for the next version of Windows 64bit

So, additional to 500$ coupon you received 30% difference back??

How can I understand that. I used only 500% coupon. I still haven't received my HP yet. Is anyway I could get some money from them??

Don't worry, these coupons show up nearly every week. They do vary a bit so you'll have to decide if it's worth waiting for the BIG coupon or just go with the good coupon.

Have anybody had any luck seeing the battery time remaining in DV 5t. I only see the % remaining.

I use vista 64bit home premium. Is it something to do with the OS or is it common with all Hp laptops. My previous old hp laptop did show time remaining. Please direct me if i have to fix some settings or if I should be asking this question else where.

Other dv 5t owners, please respond how u handle this.

Hahah...I wish! I used the 30% originally on a 1473 purchase which came out to be 442 and change, then called them up and asked them to price adjust using 500 dollar coupon so I get another 57 dollars...so basically 500 dollars off

I think its software ... because on both of my Thinkpads I can switch between those options via their battery maximieser software not the OS battery display, but the HP seems to use the default Vista battery display...that is HP doesn't offer any third party battery gauge software

Lol tomy. What the guy meant is, he bought his computer while using the 30% coupon, which was like a month ago. However with that he only saved like as an example 480 bucks, for example 30% on 1500 = 480. So he asked them to switch the coupon with new one, so he saved another 20 dollars. Hope that helps you out in understanding what he meant. Basically he told them to use 500 coupon instead of 30% as using 500 saved a bit more.

As for the guy who posted about 21st, it was 21st, but it was limited to like first 2700 or so people. I saw that, so decided to buy on the 16th because I figured lot of people would be using it, so I think it expired early due to that many people using it. Remember this coupon wasn't just for dv5t and dv7t, but also couple other comps.

    good news:
my replacement came in today and since the order was made when they had the free ugprade to 3gb of ram i got that as well

    bad news:
i checked my order status and it seems my refund went wrong or somethin
it says i got refunded $977 and the laptop was like $1,371
anyway i called HP last night to tell them that my card was only supposed to be charged $394 then id get $294 back so i would end up payin $100 for the upgrade(thats what the csr said when i 1st called to get my replacement)
anyway i hope this gets sorted out without any trouble ><

How big a difference do you think there is between the different processor options for the DV5t? I ordered one with a P7350. Assuming the games I'm planning on playing are along the lines of Neverwinter Nights 2, Oblivion, and Diablo III (whenever that comes out) think I'll notice any really difference between the 2.0GHz option and the faster ones?

Edit: How could I have forgotten SC2? Even if you're not into the genre, the Blizzard reputation almost compels you to give it a look...

if i were to want to play medium sized (700-900 mb) avi movie files (possibly ripped lol) or high quality, blue ray movies (also ripped probably) with my laptop, does the graphics card play a major role? for example, would there be a big diff between nvidia geforce 9200 v 9600? would there be a lot of lag and not as good quality when im playing ripped blue ray or regular movies? what if im getting a high resolution screen? would i need to have the better graphics card to make use of my good screen? lastly, what about jus online movies like youtube, or even google maps or something lol. any help?

if i were to want to play medium sized (700-900 mb) avi movie files (possibly ripped lol) or high quality, blue ray movies (also ripped probably) with my laptop, does the graphics card play a major role? for example, would there be a big diff between nvidia geforce 9200 v 9600? would there be a lot of lag and not as good quality when im playing ripped blue ray or regular movies? what if im getting a high resolution screen? would i need to have the better graphics card to make use of my good screen? lastly, what about jus online movies like youtube, or even google maps or something lol. any help?

Thanks, now I know a new feature of this great forum (didn't know you could search in a thread).

So this is somewhat common... What are the chances of me getting a perfect speaker grill alignment on these (debating between exchanging it or keeping it)?
