How about some external battery power!
String three of these pups in series and plug it in to the DC jack. Should be good for ~ 8 hours (not including the internal battery):

who's going to try this first?![]()

I don't think so. Different # of pins on DDR3.
JohnG -
Woah!! wat the heck is this thing, and hw do u use it???
-
I doubt TSA will let you on a plane with that and it is quite heavy and cumbersome.
-
Lol.
Yeah. How does that thing work? -
Opps, I just checked the input power on my DV5T and it's much higher than my other HP laptop.
. Looks like the DV5T is running at 68 Watts input.
. So these bats won't last nearly as long as I had previously stated.
That said: The DC converter outputs 19 volts. Wire three of these 6 volt bats in series will get you slightly over 18 volts. Probably ~ 19 volts when fully charged. These bats have an AH rating of 7.2 amps so they might be good for an extra 2.5 hours.
. You would have to dim the display to squeeze more time out of the bats. i.e. put the computer into a power miser mode.
Probably better off just buying an extra standard battery.

I am from Slovakia, can you give me the link of the review?, so I may take a closer look, becouse from your post I guess it was written in Slovak language which is my native...

Check out the reply on this page by Hakuka, he mentions it. -
Tech specs for SODIM DDR3 here:
http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IMODULE=CT2KIT25664BC1067
The DV5T has 200 pin mem connectors. Doesn't matter that the native chipset in the DV5T is compatible with DDR3 since the connector is DDR2 specific.

No one knows for sure when HP will put up new coupons. From my own experience of keeping an eye out for these things for about two or so months, I've seen a 30% coupon, $500 coupon and $350 off. I think that there was another coupon at the very beginning too when I started looking, but I forgot how much it was for. I'd say if you don't have to have it now, wait a few weeks and HP will put up another coupon.
-
HP gets coupon nearly every week, each seems to get better, but maybe it was just luck. In any case, pushing forward your buy date won't get you anywhere. Prices keep dropping, technology keeps improving. Just settle for one.
-
That's the answer we all want to hear.
Seems like a pretty well spec'd DV5T is about $1K right now with the better coupons. I'd be willing to bet that the price will drop to ~$800 by Jan 1 for an equivalent machine and coupon.
That's assuming the us $ doesn't become worthless between now and then.

thanks watchr chango99 ang johnnymg2! i guess i'll wait for a week or so and see if hp offers another insane discount. but i'm set on buying this laptop regardless of any offers. thanks again guys!

hows my set up look?! (P.S. I know 2GB o ram...I'll upgrade it when I get more money....)
anyways how is the sound on the dv5t? and is there any interference with the wireless N card? like with the Dell....I just want a good computer that works from the beginning\
also are there any coupons!? -
It looks fine. If you want slightly less heat and better battery life, a P8600 processor will do fine. Fingerprint reader you don't really need. And the infinity display you don't need really either, especially if you expect to be using it in light alot. Just my opinions if you want to save some $. Right now there is a 200$ stackable coupon on top of the instant rebate, but there is be a possibility of better coupons next week.
-
fingerprint reader i really do need! I love not having to type in my password...and what is the code for the $200 off? and where do I enter it?...
and I know this looks as if it is set up for gamming...but gaming is not my top priority.... I need this for school so realistically how long would the battery last on the lowest settings?... also does the extended battery really do anything?...like how much more does it help? -
^ if your not gaming, why go for the 9600M GT? That uses more battery and produces plenty of heat. I thought you weren't considering battery life since you didn't got such specs and no high capacity battery...
Anyway, I believe the code is NB2390 i'm not sure, just look in the bargains page. You apply it when you are checking out.
As for the battery, I, running an undevolted P8600 CPU, 9600M GT GPU, and have a High Cap battery, just tested it. I put the laptop on power saver mode, started at 100%. I turned off wifi, then just let it sit there. I opened up word and typed every fews minutes to keep the screen lit up. I also played a little bit of chess. When I reached 5%, It had been about 2 hours and 30 minutes. -
Ok about to get this one:
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)
4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
[For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
HP Color Matching Keyboard
Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
Integrated 56K Modem
Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
Mobile Stereo Earbud Headphones (2 pair)
So, I'm a graphic designer, I work in Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, Soundbooth, etc... Also willing to do SMALL 3D stuff here and then for design, I dont really play games much.
Should I get the Infinity Display?
Should I go with the T9400?
Should I downgrade to the Gforce 9200? (Im not really sure about this one, I'm really excited about the 9600)
(Also wondering if the TV Tuner works outside USA, mmmm)
Thanks in advance!
-
The display is pure choice, looks better in the dark, worse because of glare in the light. It really doesn't make much difference though. For you, a higher processor might help with what you do, but it isn't needed. Downgrading to the 9200 would probably be a good choice as your needs are in the processor.

Yes that is right. It might reach you next morning.

I thought a good graphics card wasn't needed when doing photoshop? I might be wrong.
-
No definite answer, it might be worse, it might be better. For now, every week after the other, it's been getting better. Who knows, let's see what happens next week.
The coupons you apply AFTER you check out, when you already confirmed CC or paypal. -

-
Wow, my laptop is on the fedex truck for deliver today. It said 5-7 business days and shipped out on tuesday. Technically I should've have it until next week, but now I'm getting it in TWO days. I love fedex. This is after I find out that the computer was built 2 weeks ahead of estimated schedule.
EDIT: They tried delivering it while I wasn't home so are going to try again tomorrow at a later time, sucks. -
Check to see how close the FedEx warehouse is near you. There should be an address on the notice they left you. You can just go pick it up there.
Thats what I did the day I missed the package. -
is the WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050) worth spending $75 over the WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)? i might be gaming when i buy this laptop but is it really needed?
-
My laptop got here a day early
It is simply gorgeous, I am so glad I bought it lol. And yes, WSXGA+ is amazing!
-
For anyone that returned or exchanged their dv5t, which number did you call? I just want to exchange mine for the bigger resolution, nothing wrong with the laptop. So would I still call tech support? Or another department?
-
Call HP Shopping online. They can exchange for any reason within 15 days. Don't call tech support. They don't have the authority. You can also return within 21 days for any reason.
-
Unless you have bad eyesight, the higher res display is a much better option.
-
yeah, i'm loving this high res!
-
My dv5t is bought in slovakia, and it has ddr2 gpu, and I never heard here in my country that models with ddr3 exists or are avaible....
-
YES
u will regret not getting the high res...trust me -
I just ordered my DV5T w00t!!!!!!!!!!!
ordering your new HP DV5T off your piece of crap Dell Studio 15 (that you are returning) PRICELESS!
-
LOL at that last post...
My mom's dv5t just arrived. So far so good. The only thing that kinda bothers me is that the Windows Experience Index score is a 3.1. The 3.1 is from the graphics subscore.
Now I got her the 9200M GT because she's not a gamer and doesn't really need that much graphical power. However I was expecting the score to be around 4 or so...
Any thoughts on why it's sorta low? Every other subscore is high. -
The Windows Experience Index is not a reliable benchmark. Don't even worry about what that says. The 9600M Gt gets a 4.8 for me.
-
So I ended up getting it today and it is AMAZING. I absolutely love this computer, highly recommend it to everyone.
One question though-- I had to put the battery in the little controller, but the battery won't stay in it. It just keeps popping back out, anyone else have this problem? -
I'm sending my xps1530 tomorrow. I got dv5t today. Excellent toy !!! and price was awesome with 500$ coupon !!
-
because it is based on lthe lowet score
-
I don't think the score is low. The 9600m GT gets about 3x higher 3DMark06 score than the 9200m GS, so the score isn't too inaccurate.
-
This Hybrid TV Tuner, does it have any coaxial input? rca input? if not, can you specify what kind of input and outputs has?
Thanks!
-
Holy cow - When I went to flash the BIOS a moment ago the fan went bezerker loud...everything is back to normal now but was a bit surprised that the internal fan could output so much sound!
-
I could've swarn my score with the x4500 was 3.5.. now I have the 9200 dedicated and it's 3.1 like yours - sigh - oh well.. love this laptops specs...
-
I had ordered a Studio a before I found the dv5t, but canceled because it was taking too long. My friend just received her Studio today.. so just wondering - why do you think it's a piece of crap?
-
Finally and finally my first notebook HP dv5t arrived.I ordered my laptop on 17th of this month and was told will be built only on 1st of October
But now here I am typing this comments with dv5t... As others in the forum suggested, its worth the wait... I simply love this notebook.... AAMMAAZZIINGG
