guys which processor is better?
AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-82 (2.2GHz)
vs
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
(is AMD 2.2 ghz equivalent to 2.5 of intel? thats what i heard someone say)
and graphics card:
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
vs
256MB ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3450 Graphics
(i know the 512 MB 9600 wins hands down.. but if i take the ATI Radeon...
what will i be missing except the memory difference?) -
The T9400 is much faster. The ZM-82's speed is equivalent to the T5670.
-
high res it is! thanks again wtchr, fire and nelo ice!

Hey guys I just received my second DV5t..
I upgraded the Processor to 2.4 instead of 2.26
and the harddrive to 320GB instead of 250GB.
Everything is great except I have one complaint. Ok i know it may sound strange but.
The 250 Harddrive on my first DV5t has a Toshiba Harddrive
model #Toshiba MK2552GSX.. Which is fine.
But my NEW DV5t the one I'm going to keep has a 320 HD. the brand is FUJITSU! I'm not familiar with this brand. now I'm worried, I don't want this unknown brand HD. the model is FUJITSU MHZ2320BH G2..
Is Fujitsu good? any experience?
You think I should just keep the original DV5T with the Toshiba 250GB HD?? -
Does anybody now if the HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner works outside USA? like in Chile for example...
Info:
CHILE= NTSC / 220V / 50Hz
USA= NTSC / 120V / 60Hz
IMPORTANT: And, does it have any coaxial input? rca input? if not, can you specify what kind of input and outputs it has?
Thanks!
PS: Sorry I kinda "reposted" but gonna buy it really soon and I dont wanna be burnin' my money

Hi, I have been trying to install Nvidia System Tools 6.02 on my dv5t. Everytime I try to install it, my laptop hangs, I have tried with the stock 175.86 drivers and also with the new 178.13 drivers, any ideas why does it happn.
Also once i got the installation through without any hangs, but thn whn i tried to open the Nvidia Control Panel or the Nvidia System Monitor, my laptop hangs
Can anyone pls help me out with this. Thanks. -
i know they make good computers and expensive too, i wouldn't be too worried.
-
Fujitsu is a known brand. They've been around for a long time. I wouldn't worry.
-
I would probably trust a fujitsu more than a toshiba, to be honest. I've had better experiences with fujitsu products, but thats just me. We still have my wife Fujitsu notebook from 1998. Other than the cracked screen, it works fine.
-
Ok, so I am on my 3rd dv5t notebook. #1 and #2 were defective. Yeah, bad luck right. So far so good on this 3rd and hopefully final one. Things I've noticed that are different than the 1st are that it runs cooler. Just finished 2 hours of Crysis and the temps on the CPU and GPU were a bit lower. I'll get the numbers later.
Only difference in specs between #1 and #3 are CPUs (P8400 vs P8600). Same GPU. HP must have done something different on these later built notebooks. Even the power brick is slightly different and the keyboard feels different. I'm liking the changes so far. -
I have a weird problem. I connected my ipod to the Dv5t's mic input, to play songs on my ipod through the laptop's speakers. The music plays for about 10 seconds and then goes off. To play it again, I have to change the laptop's volume. So every time I change the volume, it plays for 10 seconds and goes off again. This is annoying. Any solutions?
thank you. -

That is an odd problem - my suggestion is to reinstall the sound drivers. Uninstall them first from the Control Panel, then reinstall them. They should be in a folder on your hard drive.
It is not surprising you got a different make/model hard drive. HP does not use one brand. Fujitsu > Toshiba hard drives in my experience; Fujitsus are quieter for sure. I have a 160GB Fujitsu in my HP and it works very well. -
Weird question.
I use my laptop in the college library and listen to music while doing whatever. The problem is that I'm super paranoid about knocking the headphone cord out by accident and having the music blare through the speakers. Is it possible to disable the laptop speakers through Vista at all? -
Try to chk the sound mixer, i think it has sum settings for it.
-
That would have been a good place to start!
For anyone who cares to know: Just go into sound and mute 'speakers and dual headphones' and enable/set default 'independent dual headphones'. Works like a charm! -
Yea i remember I saw that setting, tht is why I told u to chk it there, nice u found it, thnks.
-
I am now the proud owner of a dv5t.
-Vista ultimate 64bit
-P8600
-2GB ram (will buy more soon)
-250GB hdd
-15.4" brightview 1680x1050
-9600M GT
-Blu-Ray
-webcam
-high capacity 6 cell
That should be all then important info. This thing is pretty sweet. I've done some tweaking already, but plenty more to do still.
BTW, I did some registry cleaning with revouninstaller and now my quickplay dvd/media player won't launch from the remote...any ideas? -
Did you back up changes to registry? You possibly deleted something like viewpoint media player. The bolded registries sometimes are part of windows media player, etc.
-
Well just my luck, got the ok to order mine today and now coupon code NB2390 is no longer is valid. Guess I will have to wait untill another deal rolls around
Anyone know of any others?
-
Ya, I made a backup of the registry twice, but don't know what change might have done it. Also did the auto restore points.
Viewpoint is still installed. I can still run it from the start menu. Its not necessary to work, just more of a convenience since I'd be sitting at my laptop watching anything anyways.
EDIT: I downloaded the latest version and isntalled it of Quickplay and that seems to have fixed the problem. -
Monday will possibly have another one and it might possibly be better... well assuming if the coupons follow a pattern.
-
so i have a question b4 buying a cooler.... does this lappy sucks air or expels air in the bottom?
Thanks -
The intakes are on the bottom and the two exhausts are in the left rear corner which are on a slightly beveled portion of the bottom.

ok....I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy..but did my DV5t just left AK, got to CA (where I am at) then depart CA and went right back to AK?.. there better not be shock damage to it....anyone have any explanation why its going in circles.....?
-
***? thats a little strange. hopefully its just a fedex error.
-
Just give FedEx a call and they will let you know whats going on.
-
i noticed that HP has a cycle of coupon deals goin for some time now. they will definitely have another one next week. just keep watch.

What's Up? I'm new to this forum and would like some advice. I have a older HP and just ordered the following dv5t.
Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4 GHz)
3GB DDR2 Memory
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
15.4" WSXGA+ HD (1680 x 1050)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW
Vista Home Premium SP 1 (32-bit)
The question is, will I be able to play the majority of modern games (and Far Cry 2) when it comes out or should I try to upgrade before HP completes assembling the one I ordered?
Thanks for any and all assistance. -
You'll be fine with that spec. The GPU does the hard work and you have the best available.
Did you order the 802.11n wireless card? If not, I'd recommend it as that n spec is the future of fast wireless.
Order a Zalman cooler NOW! These pups run warmish -----> hot.
JohnG -
Yeah I got the 802.11n wireless. Thanks for the feedback
and ill go look up the cooler! -
i accidently left mass effect running for like 9 hours while i was sleeping last night. could my gpu handle being about 77 degrees celcius for that long? a little worried
-
Your GPU shd be fine with temp upto 77C
-
My computer runs all day long; the keyboard seems to be warm all the time. Just worry that this heat might harm my system. I use lap desk only. i don't use and cooler pads and not going to since is not comfortable and won't let me use laser mouse on the side of my lap desk.
What do you think guys. I got good deal but I really want this system last for couple weeks.
Any ideas???
I might game a little bit in my spare time. Lol, I really don't wanna see the readings from CPUID

tomywini, did you undervolt your T9600 yet? And i'm sure the laptop will last for a couple of weeks lol... Undervolting will help drop heat and increase battery.
-
What do you mean "only couple weeks"? You are thinking it might bet broken due to constant overheating??
-
Just replying to your post, you said you hope the laptop last for a couple of weeks, and i'm just being a little sarcastic, of course it will last for more than that.
-
How did you do this undervolting staff?
If I may ask........ -
check out the undervolting guide under aftermarket upgrades forum. It goes through step by step, under my sig is a link to how it helped on my dv5t.
-
The same thing happened with me. But many here say the coupons come every week so let's just wait and see if it'll be a better deal.
Another question though, what is the difference between the Wireless-G Card and the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth? -
Wireless-N is a draft of wireless speed that has possibility for higher speeds. That's basically it, you might or might not use it's full potential. Google the different versions for more info... basically right now there is a,b,g, and n.
-
I'm sure you know what bluetooth is.
The N card will give you faster wifi speeds if you also have a N wireless router. it is still draft, but most believe that specs are pretty much done and are awaiting official ratification. The N will also give you G speed so get the N card.
Get the wireless N card w/bluetooth. -
I need some help before i do a clean install..
Does anyone know the programs that are essential to install after I clean install my dv5t? and Do I install all the drivers in SwSetup? Anything else to get everything on my dv5t to work? -
thanks so much chango and wtchr! after much deliberation, am placing my order now.
-
I've made a huge load of restore points on my dv5 after various tweaks/driver updates etc. I wanted to keep just the latest one and the first one but I learned you can only erase everything but the latest one.
However, there's the option to restore to factory settings if something goes wrong, so would that just be like going back to the first restore point that was set up? (I think it was the first time I got connected and windows update ran, so not much was changed anyway)
Also, once I make a restore disk like the HP Health checker keeps telling me to do, it could just restore my laptop to how it was when I made the disk wouldn't it?
Basically I want to free up more space by getting rid of the restore points and want to know if it's OK just to delete everything but the latest one. -
when i had 2gb of ram my dv5t usually used about %53 of it. now that i have 4gb of ram it is usually at 48%, why is there not much of a difference?
-
Well restoring ur laptop with the Recovery CD's will bring it back in the status ur laptop was when you bought it, it will reset it to factory defaults.
What I have done is I have deleted all the previous restore point and made one point of my own. I made that restore point after I had deleted all the bloatware and installed all my custom software.
So using recovery disks doesnt use restore points, it just wipes ur Hard Disk cleans and installs everything from scratch, so ur laptop looks as if it just arrived from the factory. Hope this helps. -
Ok, that clears things up, thanks.
I think the best thing for me to do is make frequent HD backups on an external HD, make a recovery disk and then delete all previous restore points.
-
guys any smell of a new coupon coming thru??
plz keep us all posted
-
Just google "hp coupon". Looks like a new coupon for $400 off $1299 and up. NB4113
