I've tested DDR2 667, 800 single and dual channel RAM sticks on my system. Tested using Everest 4.6. Here are the results:

    RAM sticks used:
    Qimonda 1GB DDR2 667 CL5
    Mushkin Basic 1GB DDR2 667 CL5
    Transcend 2GB DDR2 800 CL5 (2sticks)

From the results, it seems 780G chipset runs best on DDR2 800 RAM. Using two sticks boost memory copy score. Latency is lower with DDR2 800 sticks too. Btw, of 4096MB, only 3068MB is recognised in Vista 32bit :(

"Take the number of vehicles in the field, (A), and multiply it by the probable rate of failure, (B), then multiply the result by the average out-of-court settlement, (C). A times B times C equals X... If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one."

"Are there a lot of these kinds of accidents?"

    "You wouldn't believe..."

My dv5z runs INSANELY hot on just the 3450. I mean dangerous-to-touch hot, like a burner (I'm really not kidding). I can imagine that it would run even hotter with the second GPU. But that's fine -- I payed for the full (including accidents) warranty for three years, so if it overheats, I get a new one :p

If heat is such an issue, why not get a cooling pad? They cost around $20 and keep the laptop nice and cool.
Incidentally, potential heat damage is no reason not to release a Bios fix. The customer purchased a laptop and the customer has every right to use it to its full potential.

i found the other day that the intake for the air is o;n the bottom of the upper left hand side so if you have it on your lap your prolly blocking it

i thought mine was very hot also since i use it on my lap but after discovering this i found that i moved it to the left a little bit so the intake wasnt on my leg it would actually b quiet cool, even while playing moderate games (such as spore)
im not sure of the exact temps cuz inever thought to check b4

I downloaded and ran EVEREST for the first time. It shows me that I have DDR2-800 memory in both banks, and as far as I know it's supposed to be running at 400 MHz. However, it shows that it's running at 333 MHz. Any idea why?

P.S. never mind i just noticed that DDR-2 800 mode is not supported by the chipset. No point of buying it then.

Check using CPU-Z. The chipset, bios and the cpu(as long as it is a Turion/Turion Ultra) should both support DDR2 800 memory.

Oh, yes...the Athlons only support memory upto DDR2 667, so 333MHz is correct for your system.

I followed your instructions exactly as they were listed but had no luck. Overdrive still claims to not detect an AMD CPU. I'm going to try uninstalling everything and use CCleaner to clean up the registry entries to see if that helps. I'll try the steps over again after that.

EDIT: I cleaned up all of the registry entries after uninstalling and then repeated the steps. I still run into the AMD CPU not detected issue. :(

I'm using the ZM-80 CPU with the added Radeon 3450. I'm using the Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) edition. Also, I'm using bios revision F.08. Also, just to confirm, I was using the 2.12 verson of Overdrive.

I think I know what the issue is, let me get home and check it out...in the meanwhile
can you tell me what CCC version you are using
have you tried using the latest drivers using mobility modder?
that might fix it for you

I'm running F.12 with the RM-70 CPU and running the latest CCC with mobility modder. I get the same error, tried with overdrive 2.08 and 2.10, however, when i went and installed 2.14, it worked. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_overdrive.aspx

    this is what I did:
I modified my 'high performance' profile under windows so that the minimum processor state was 100%
    then i rebooted
after that i changed the voltage and applied
then i remodified my 'high performance' profile to that minimum was 10%...this way at 100% usage, the voltage will be the lower voltage you just set

sorry the guide is still a WIP

Yeah see it's missing a few things, the auto clock doesn't work, there is no green button in the upper right corner. And that voltage thing isn't acutaly changing it. When you set your max CPU it automaticly adjusts the voltage, so even without the overdrive running, it was down at 0.8V cause i had it set at 10%. The key here is to get it to stay at 0.8V while having it run at 100%. The help docs say that overdrive is only for the phenome chips and I just don't think it works on the turion.

    Yes, the auto-clock doesnt work
when you set your CPU to max, and adjust it, I have been able to reduce my voltage from 1.10 at max to 1.0ish...it worked or so the AMD power monitor claims, what I have not been able to do is adjust the voltages for other multipliers (other than the max, which in my case is a 10x)

My computer freezes whenever I hit apply. No matter what setting I change. Even just ticking 'enable broken fan detection'. I've been waiting for this guide but to no avail since I've tried everything you've said a few weeks before. I guess I'll try from the start again.

On a side note: Are you guys running on dual channel mem?

I have tested and it doesnt work since the voltage change automatically. Btw, 780G chipset supports DDR2 800. After upgrading from 667 to 800, my system is a little snappier.

so, what's the conclusion? this AMD undervolting using AMD overdrive proved to be useless? but Mantikos, how did you achieve successful undervolting if it's not working for ANYONE?
i haven't tried yet, as the new date of getting my 1050ee is 16th. as in day after tomorrow.

it doesn't work. The chipset auto changes the voltage based on CPU load. So set your power settings CPU min usage to like 10-20% and that will keep it at 0.8v under low load. It will allways jump up to 1.2 under max load.

I call bollox on the undervolting. Plus I don't get why you'd have to install Fusion for Gaming in that guide, you weren't going to use it anyway. After reading that first step I kinda started doubting already. It's not like Overdrive uses Fusion, but I know Fusion uses Overdrive.

I have some questions and hope someone can help me out. Does the DV5z come with ddr2 800 from HP? I'm pretty sure CPU-z told me it did but cant remember. I was looking into upgrading up to 4GB from my current 2. I use alot of tabs in mozilla and run music and so forth alot together..will I see a big boost in performance? I use a converting program to make DivX files to dvd and that really bogs it down (always using 60% memory and 100% CPU) can that be helped?
Thanks for any response or advice on memory.
