Should come with a shaky handicam warning.

Just received my dv6t. Dead on arrival. Disk error will not boot at all. On the phone with hp for almost an hr now. No 750 gb 7200 HD available. No fingerprint reader.

Believe what you want, but it's the truth. I spent about 75 minutes on the phone with HP. They wanted to build me a new one but not all my options are available. There was a dent in the corner of the box so I'm sure FedEx tossed it around and wrecked the HDD. The keyboard has several bulges.. I can slip my fingernail under the top edge in several spots. Very disappointed. Does anyone know if the keyboard can easily be swapped out? There's a screw on the bottom with a picture of a keyboard s I assume you can.
-
No finger print reader? When did u place ur order? I actually like the idea that it can open up a site and enter my login info with a swipe of a finger.
-
-
Does anyone know if replacing the keyboard will help or does it mean that the computer body its self is just ruined?
Also the left and right click keys are aweful and hard to push.
-
Did you order a dv6 or dv7, I am getting a dv7 and I had hope that flex wouldn't be as much an issue as the previous models.
Edit-- Trying to one-hand my dv7 sounds like an old ghost pirate ship creaking and cracking, lmao -
This being the fifth computer I've purchased and had issues with (not all hp, various types) I'm really not wanting to return it.
Also, what is under the "OPL:" keys? There is a LOT of heat coming from right there... it's not uncomfortably hot but its definitely more heat than i've ever had there.
Then again, I tend to expect a brand new computer to randomly heat up before factory dust and such settles in.
Dv6t. It may just be the line being new and the machines needing some breaking in. Or then again, it could be HP being cheap and failing at putting correctly sized keyboards on their machines to save money. >.< -
-
Awww damn it, I wanted the fingerprint reader.
I guess there will only be a "few" rare ones that actually got the fingerprint reader. booo!!! -
and poo, Will a warped chassis bother performance or will it just remain as a visual flaw? I'm in desperate need of a laptop within the next month and by the time I'll be capable of returning it i'll be out of warranty.
That sucks about the Asus, I'd of bunted the thing out the window by then.
Also, from a prior conversation, the screen has loads of yellow tint to it. Greens have that pukeish yellow color going on and some reds almost look strait orange.
Also The music volume equalizer thing is so super obnoxious.... With punk music it doesn't even pay attention to volume, just when the music is more 'intense' -
Just got my dv7. I opened up the bottom to look at the HDD bays thinking that I might at least replace the HDD with my SSD until I can get the caddy needed for the 2nd bay.
The HDD is actually glued in there, though not very well, but it doesn't looks like they've bundled the wiring somehow and it just vanishes under into the guts of the machine under the plastic (which is the limit of my willingness to take things apart).
There is a 'HDD 2' port near HDD 1 and what looks like a a spot where you could bury a similar cable between bays 2 and 1, but it's not immediately obvious how you'd actually hook one up. Did someone post a link to the service manual? I haven't had a dv* series before so I don't know if this is usually how it is or not. -
-
You have no idea how badly I want to send it back and get a new one, but if I want to pay for the laptop, I need it for work. -
-
I ordered a dv7-6000 cable kit from newmodeus because the picture of the dv7-6000 layout looks identical to the dv7-7000. Thanks!

You could probably make the caddy work by cutting off the 2 screws on it opposite the side where the cable connects, but then the drive could flop around inside the computer a bit, so I wouldn't recommend it. The new caddy has little projections on the sides that slide in underneath a couple of plastic tabs in the drive bays. You have to slide the drive caddy back a little after removing the two retention screws before you can extract it.
The cable has a couple of projections on the edges that fit into the system board, and they have been reversed or flipped between the 6000 and 7000.
I can kind of see why HP changed the caddy design, the new version is a little nicer, but I don't know why they had to go and change the cables. -
Dunno, getting that would require getting an external monitor as well (sub 14in is too small for graphics), and the monitor would be an annoyance to lug around (editing photos and other images on scene). Also I'm not sure one cheap enough would be capable of running a decent sounds system. The last time I tried hooking up a large set of speakers to a netbook, the thing crashed it's sound drivers like mad >.< (I think it was sound drivers... I'm not terribly tech savvy so could of been something else) -

Just got my Dv6 six an hour or two ago. Every thing is working smoothly so far. My fan is always on with cool sense on or off, but even with cool sense on it's not loud. I can hear it with cool sense but only if i'm trying to hear it, otherwise i don't here it and continue doing what ever i was doing. With cool sense, off i can still feel that the fan is on, but you cant hear it at all. I had to put my ear an inch away from the vent to hear it.
Also theirs practically no heat in ether mode. It is noticeable that the laptop is almost completely cold with cool sense on when on my lap. But it cans a really small, neglectable amount of heat with coo l sense off. Really no big deal.
I'm installing Tribes Ascend right now, and will be able to give you feed back on fps, settings, and temps with numbers hopefully =) I know that tribes isn't exactly a popular game, but its the only game other then civ5 that i have available atm. -
So my laptop was supposed to come yesterday and they changed the date to TODAY and lo and behold its past 4:30pm and when I called I got the excuse "the freight was late". They said they will "try" to deliver it tomorrow on saturday... sigh.. fedex sucks..
-
I'd never be able to deal with that, my eyes would die so hard. -
Anyway, I called HP and ordered the Hard Disk Hardware Kit. It's part number 681976-001 and lists for $56.85. If it's like the 6000 series hardware kit, it will come with both drive caddies and both cables. Again, it would be nice if they sold it with just the parts for a second drive. -
The ssd alone boots fast and clean but adding a hdd in there brings performance down, Idk if that matters to you but I just buy dv7's for the screen size and previously they were the only one of the two (dv6/7) to have a subwoofer. The second hdd bay isnt so much a big issue to me as I prefer a usb 3.0 external hdd for my movies etc. -
So will fingerprint reader be present in the newly customized laptops .??

Also listed in features , HP Simple pass ... -

after hearing all this crap about finger print readers missing, rigs getting too hot, speaker quality is crap and the fact that my fedex package seems to be lost in their system, im pretty bummed.
Is ANYONE pleased with their new machine? -
Does anyone has a saved configuration with a 750gb hybrid drive selected .?
Need that please .... -

But yeah it has a fingerprint reader no matter what. Go spend your money. -
I just "chatted" with a HP customer service person online and she said it is not an option now. Her excuse about the conflicting information was that they have the right to change product and price and promotion at any time. I pointed out to her that this was known as "bait and switch" or fraud or misrepresentation, as it means we could order a fully upgraded system at a price of $1,500 or whatever and instead they could send us a basic system and charge $1 million or whatever they choose.
PLEASE - If enough people complain (instead of just typing to each other about it on here), maybe HP will restore that.
FYI, I had a dv6tqe that had the fingerprint reader and it is definitely useful. I sent it back a few days ago to exchange (because it had a couple issues) and am waiting for mine to be built, but now I am VERY concerned it may not have the fingerprint reader, which will make me send it back yet again! Could those of you who have received your dv6tqe's (the new versions) tell us if yours has the fingerprint reader, and if it does, when did you order it and did it list that on your final invoice? -
-
Ordered two of the Dv7t-7000 and they came in today... everything I read on the web said the Dv7 came with the second hard drive caddy but not the cable... so ordered the cables from newmodeus.com and then today found they don't have the caddie. So ordered part # 681976-001 from HP for $45.60 each and we will see if that has everything I need. Guess I should have upgraded to the dual hard drives and just pulled one for the SSD I am putting in the primary bay next week... Just seemed like HP was charging $200 for a $150 750 GB hard drive... but I guess the cost of the second cable/Caddy makes it a wash...
Machine seems very fast, well built, has the fingerprint reader and I am very happy with the sound and back-lit keyboard. I had a 17" Envy for my mom come in a few months ago and other than the slot load drive and beats knob and aluminum housing, this thing is almost as good. The Envy has more monitor outputs with HDMI and two DisplayPorts... but it was $500 more... -
And please all, when you post that you got your system could you mention if it has the fingerprint reader, when did you order it and was that listed in the details on your HP invoice in your online order confirmation? Thanks! -
-
You say they ran out and are getting more, was that sarcasm or do you have any recent (as of today) basis for that? To some people this is an element they care about. -
-
@The person with a legitimate question:
If you look at your order and it says "• 720p HD video streaming webcam supports Skype + FingerPrint Reader"
You should receive a laptop with a finger print reader, if you don't it's a mistake like any wrong part can be a mistake.
If your order says " HP TrueVision HD Webcam."
You will not receive a laptop with a finger print reader. -

Just received my dv6t today and its amazing. Everything is perfect as ordered. The best screen I have ever seen. It is full of the HP bloatware and Norton, but I have since uninstalled a lot. I ordered mine with the 750gb Hybrid and it's crazy how fast it starts. The keyboard is perfect, no flex or warping. If anyone has questions that I can answer, fire away.
I have avoided HP for years but this is the best I've seen for the money. -
My original dv6 (which I returned) listed it in the order and had it. My "exchange" that is being built now did not, but the initial description page listed it as one of the features.
So, it would be helpful if those who have actually received the new ones (not those of us theorizing), would let us know whether theirs came with a fingerprint reader (or not) and whether or not their order listed a fingerprint reader.
