Well: I don't want to scare anyone out of buying it and I don't want to depress anyone who just bought it, but I have decided to return mine because of the (lack of) audio quality, through the headphones.

The IPS screen is excellent, the touchpad is excellent, 2-finger scrolling was a breeze, the fan noise was low with CoolSense off, and the computer was lightning-fast with my SSD installed.

But unfortunately a computer where the audio is awful is completely useless to me since that's a huge part of what I need a computer for.

I just want to warn people that I observed:

    1. Constant static through the headphones when nothing was playing. You're in a quiet room, you plug the headphones in, there is a noticeable white noise/static coming through the headphones that does NOT happen on any other computer I own.
    2. Some type of loudness equalization whereby quiet sounds were amplified and loud sounds were quieted down to make the volume level. Adjusting Beats did not remedy this and no adjustment I made in the "Sound" properties was able to fix it.

For these reasons, I considered the computer unusable to me. I just want people to be aware. I recognize that I'm really picky and really sensitive to things that other people don't notice or care about. Just wanted to put the info out there.

This was similar to my issue. I received my dv6tqe today and the hard drive was bricked. It also had a bulging keyboard. I called and spoke to several people. The first suggested that they do an exchange and build me a new machine. She started going through the components and when she got to the hard drive, which I had ordered a 7200 rpm 750 gb, she told me that it wasn't available but that she could "upgrade" me to a 1 TB 5400rpm. I said that I wanted the one I had originally specified but she insisted it wasn't available. Nor was the fingerprint reader available. I asked her why not and all she could tell me was that it wasn't an option anymore. I started getting pissed (my wife said I was yelling), so they elevated my issue to a case manager (obviously not in India this time) who said the best way to resolve it would be to have my issues repaired rather than just replace the unit. So I am now waiting for a shipping box to send it back. I don't want to lose the fingerprint reader.

If you're simply having yours rebuilt to "exactly what you had" you may be unpleasantly surprised when it comes with no go reader.

BTW, I ordered on 4/30, received today and it DOES have the reader.

    Just received my DV6!

Ordered 5/1, shipped on 5/7 and here today. Good job HP!

Got a couple goodies ready to upgrade. M4 256GB SSD and Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz 16GB of memory.

I was concerned that mine would not come with a fingerprint reader since I ordered mine when they stop listing it, on my spec sheet it just says HP TrueVision HD Webcam.

When I opened up the box, surprise suprise! A fingerprint scanner! Yay.

Don't lose hope guys, mine did not say fingerprint scanner yet it came with one. Mine might be a fluke or all of them REALLY DO COME WITH ONE and the guy who said he didn't get one maybe doesn't know what it looks like.

Gave it a full check, EVERYTHING IS PERFECT cosmetically, build quality is fantastic. Everything is nice and tight, no flex, no bulging keyboard. Again Good Job HP.

    This is a gorgeous machine!
Turned it and and my first words were.."WOW! The screen is breathtaking" I really think this is an IPS panel, the viewing angles are the same as my DELL IPS monitor. I can't get it to fade no matter what angle I look at it. I gave it a very close inspection for dead pixels...NONE at all. NICE!!

So far I have not played with it much, I have to go pick up my daughter from daycare but I will give a more in depth review tonight!

The keyboard and mouse pad feels great. I don't understand how anybody can dislike the click, it's very nice, soft with a solid feel.

Stay tuned for more info later!!

Thanks for your initial impressions. I look forward to reading your in-depth review.

Mine is slated to be shipped on the 18th **crossing fingers**

For those interested, the configuration summary for my dv6 has the fingerprint printer reader listed. Then again I disabled the fingerprint printer on my 6910p for the last five years, so I don't have much use for it. At the time the software was a little buggy and it logged me out from my xp session when my palm brushed it, which was weird. Plus, I think I became tired of its incessant popups whenever I accessed a new website that required login ID.

Anyway, my shipment is still in Newark, NJ. Hopefully fedex will fufill their promise and deliver it tommorrow.. I checked my order and it DOES say the fingerprint scanner.

Its quite possible that HP just ran out of them at the time being. They want to take your order so they have the money from you rather then telling you that the laptop is unavailable until xx/xx. If I was waiting to order, I would just give it a few days until they recieve that part again.

Curious (being a noob like i am) if others have confirmed the ram that comes with it is 1600mhz already .. what benefit are you going to get from replacing it? or are you adding the 16 to it making it 24?

My shipping status has finally updated and looks like i got the same first day result as most "Package received after FedEx cutoff" .... grrr

I ordered my dv7t on 4/30, received today 5/11. It didn't list the FP reader on my order confirmation or the packing slip, but my computer has it and it works.

From a manufacturing standpoint, it seems quite unlikely that HP would make a 7000 series dv6 or dv7 without the FP reader. To do it properly, they'd have to tool up to make a different keyboard surround panel, which would be more costly than just putting an FP reader in. I suppose they could just stick a plug in where the FP reader would go, but that certainly wouldn't present a quality image, and would have a detrimental effect on company image; again, not worth it.

Got my DV6 today. Overall, I like it. However, I noticed that the Blu-ray OD isn't aligned on the right hand side (pics in link below). There is a fairly noticeable gap when the drive is fully closed. Is this normal, or is this just a sign of HP's lack of QC?

I'm guessing it's the latter since I've looked at other pictures online and the Blu-ray drives don't have a noticeable gap. :(

So, now that several people have received their systems, can we get some specs? I would be interested in the following:
    Mainboard Model and Specs:
    - What is the sata controller? (1.5/3.0/6.0)
    - PCIe Bandwidth for the video card? (2.0/2.1/3.0 - 4x/8x/16x)
    - Idle temps
    - An IO meter rating on the throughput for HDD, SSD, and mSSD

Thanks a ton for the quick review and pictures. The laptop looks very good (makes me want to buy one, haha), and that certainly does look like an IPS screen. I'm pretty surprised that HP would put an IPS screen in the DV6.

Also as a quick check, can you or others look at this viewing angle test? You'll need to put your face close to best see gamma shifts, if there are any at all. Ichinenjuu already confirmed that the viewing angles are characteristic of an IPS panel, but it would be nice to have some extra input on this.
Also, it would be great if someone could pull the hardware ID/name of the panel. Wondering if this is the same 1080p IPS panel in the Envy 15 and Sony VAIO SE. For reference, the Envy 15 has the LGD0323.

Another quick question - I've seen several people report that their memory is 1600 MHz. That's great news. Can anyone post the full timings, or better yet, the frequency, voltages, and timings from CPU-Z? In fact, the whole run of CPU-Z would be nice. Graphics as well, please. I can't wait for mine.
    Instructions
    --OR--

Also, some idle temps and temps under load would be very nice to see. A nice piece of software for that is CoreTemp coupled with prime95 for a torture test. Don't cook for more than 5 minutes, though - not worth losing hardware over.

A question for everyone, I just received my dv6t, and I chose to get the 32gb mSSD. When I booted the machine (after the initial setup) it didn't seem to boot faster than a regular 5400 rpm HD. I checked the intel smart response software and no SSD is displayed and I don't have the option to accelerate my hard drive.

This is the first time I've messed with a mSSD, does anyone know what/where I should look to see if HP forgot to install the mSSD in my machine?

You might take a look in msinfo32. It may display as part of total physical memory, or more likely, it will be under Components -> Storage -> Disks. If you post what you've got in there, I can tell you what it is (it may be clear, but not always). You can also check in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), but I'm not sure if they'd list it under disk drives like other storage devices. Lastly, they may have installed it in a memory slot, in which case CPU-Z would be the way to find it, under the speed tab. Just look at the slots. Let me know if you need more help on this - feel free to pm me.

Or, if you have a small screwdriver handy, try opening the back panel. Another purchaser reported theirs next to the wifi card. http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/646099-dm4-mssd-32g-500g-7200rpm-option.html

I know, but the viewing angles are to good for a regular tn panel, and there are people who say it might be an IPS panel. Or it might also be a very good tn panel.
