Why have the increased GT650m to 50$ instead of 25$ .?
And also have they removed fingerprint reader .?? Is it possible .?

Anyone know if the refreshed dv6t's will have an available port to install a non-HP mSSD?

Anyone see this review...? HP Pavilion dv6 (Core i7 3720QM Processor 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM) Review - Notebooks - CNET - CNET Asia
Kinda worried about the bulkyness and build quality. Like I said before, if I'm not impressed and satisfied I will return & wait on the Envy or somethin else! -
does anyone know the model number of the wireless cards?
-
Lol i really don't think that the bulky ness is that bad at all. i think is spoiled by thr macbook air. and interms of build quality, i just generally think that's always been a ramdom hit or miss
-
For example, Notebookcheck said that the 7690m XT could only get 10fps on ULTRA settings in Skyrim. I tested Ultra on Skyrim with 4x AA and 8x Filtering and got 30fps. With 2x AA, it was running smooth as butter 60fps.
I take the initiative and multiply whatever fps they get on each game by 3.
So if they got 36 fps on BF3 1080p, in reality it will get 108 fps.
I honestly don't think that reviewer has worked out in 20 years if he thinks that 5lbs is heavy. I mean come on...
Plus if you look at the "Editor's Choice Products", they're all Apple Products. Apple Fanboy = Apple Fanboy. Take his reviews and factor in the fact that he will always prefer Apple. -
-
BF3, I assume it will be able to pull at least 30 on High BF3 1080p. That's what an Xbox can pull and this laptop is much more powerful than an Xbox.
Also if anyone is into major customization like I am, I highly recommend installing one of these screens:
Glossy 1080p AuO Screen
Matte 1080p AuO Screen
I don't know how nice the screen is on the new DV6TQE, but these screens have excellent contrast and are much brighter than the stock screen on the old DV6TQE.
Just take the bezel screws off, attach, then put it back in. -
I just ordered 16GB of Corsair Vengeance 1600 SODIMM from NewEgg for under $130(with HARDOCPX5X2F promo code) shipped 3 day. I couldn't see paying $400 to buy 16GB from HP without even knowing the speed.
Maybe I can sell the 8GB that comes in the new laptop.
PS. I'm probably gonna kick myself. They also have some 1866 memory(only 8GB - 2x4). -

Hey everyone, I am sorry but I should have posted this before, but anyone wanting to save more money on top of the 400 off coupon, this website offers 5% Cashback off HP website.
I am going to paste my referral link as it would be appreciated to get credit if you never heard of this before. But if you don't use it, no big deal, as I am posting this so everyone can save more money as times are tough.
Coupons, Promo Codes and Cash Back Savings - Ebates.com
This is 100% legit website as there was an article written about it in the New York times. Also I have used it to buy from newegg and all my other retailers to get cashback and they just send it directly to your paypal. The catch is it takes up to 120 days to get the cashback, but you will get it. I earned $200 back on my last year purchases. In the end there's no risk and its free to use.
For example, I just put my new dv6t order in by using the ebates cashback link which you will see after you sign up and after 400 off it came out to be 999.99 and with the 5% cashback through ebates, gets me additional 50 dollars off. I got an email that says my $50 is confirmed and then I just have to wait for next pay cycle. Like right now Purchases made between Apr 1-June 30 get paid Aug 15th. So yeah I know that's a while from now, but hey it's better late than never!
Well that's all you have to do, enjoy.
Note: Normally the HP cashback is only 3%, but right now it's 5% which I am surprised since they have the new designs out. So I don't know how long it will last as it's up to HP how much cashback they allow. Usually based on the coupons they put out they try to balance with the cashback. That's just what I have noticed in the past as I have bought quite a few HP laptops.
Hopefully this post is seen as relevant to the topic, if not I understand if it's deleted as I don't mean to go off topic, but it helps give everyone a better price on the laptop, thanks. -

Even when hardcore gaming, the laptop will only use about 7GB of RAM tops because the GPU and CPU handle everything, unless you plan on opening 2 game processes at once, like (BF3 and Metro 2033).
However buying the 16GB of RAM can't hurt, but spending an extra $50 to buy it clocked at 1600mhz is not worth it. The clock speed of RAM doesn't matter if it is DDR3. -
-
-
I'll be doing Photoshop, video editing, VirtualPC, VisualStudio, SQL Server, Word, gaming, etc. 8GB is mandatory, 16GB is awesome. -
Just ordered my laptop with the $400 off coupon, I couldn't resist.
I went highend on everything still didn't even break $2k out the door:

I do gaming and a lot of video editing. This won't replace my desktop but it will be nice to work on the go if needs be. STOKED on the backlit keyboard!
Also those who don't think the 2GB upgrade is worth it, obviously aren't using the laptop for video or photo editing. Especially transcoding. The efficiency of this card at 2 GB vs 1 GB in our custom builds at work for trade shows is extremely noticeable. Especially when running the DDR5.
Just to give you a comparison:
GDDR5 GT 650M 128bit = 64GB/s in memory bandwidth
GDDR5 GTX 560M 192bit = 60GB/s in memory bandwidth
GT 650M Texture Fill Rate = 27.2 billion/sec
GTX 560M Texture Fill Rate = 24.8 billion/sec
GTX 560M 192bit can handle 1080p gaming pretty well and not bad at transcoding for a laptop, think of what the 650m will do for you.
650M is actually a pretty decent card, from my experience. -
Also, their like 32gb SSD upgrade isn't compatible with anything over 8 GB of RAM, so it makes me wonder if it's actually one of those mini pci express cards like mentioned earlier.
-
I probably should have gotten the hybrid drive if I wanted 16GB. It wasn't much more than the hard drive in the first place and doesn't seem to have compatability issues with 16GB. We'll see. -
Seemingly the DV6T is the king around here. Am I the only one here dying for a DV7T?
-
This may be of interest to some, but I contacted HP support and the new DV6T QE does indeed have 2 HDD bays.
-
-
Wow that's amazing if it's true. I really hope she didn't get confused and thought you were asking about the DV7, she is after all...a woman...
Hehe i Kid.
=) -
For some reason its sounds suspicious with the 2 HDD bays. wouldn't they want that customizable for more profit?
-
So I purchased a DV7 Quad earlier last month and the 2nd day I had a hard drive failure. They next day'd me a new hard drive which fixed that problem. The AMD Radeon 7690M XT on the laptop is nothing but problems. I was getting constant FPS problems.
Long story short, I called in and since I was within the 21 day return period they processed an EXCHANGE for this new laptop. They didnt even charge me a penny over what I paid originally (which was already a steal because of the 30% off)
Here's the specs I got:

The only thing im kind of regretting is people say that the 1920 x 1080 screen is WAY better than the 1600x900. The rep told me it would be an extra 150$ so I said no because I thought the screen was pretty nice.
Did I make a dumb mistake? And is it possible in the future to replace the screen with a higher res if i choose to do so?
Thanks for the info guys!! -
-
The screen is one of the most important aspects of the laptop, as you will be looking at it 100% of the time when you are using it.
900p is decent, but it is not 1080p. 1080p is the highest res for games, blu ray, etc.
It's up to you, but the 1080p is what everyone goes for once you get to the $1000+ price range. Why buy a beast laptop if it's gonna look like ****? -
-
I did play a few games (BF3, CS:S, WOW) on the DV7 (the one that Im returning) and I also loaded up a blu-ray and I thought the quality looked *good* to me. Better than my old laptop. But not nearly as good as my 1080p plasma set. (But thats a 42", not really apples to apples)
I guess I have nothing else to compare it against except other peoples opinions on the web.
Anyway.. I dont even think there's much I can do at this point though because it already says "Order in production". =/ -
-
I am 99.9% sure that DV6 has one HDD bay, and DV7 two. There is just not enough space to put 2nd bay in DV6 without removing OD.

I haven't seen this discussed on here yet but does anyone have any comparisons between speed with the 750gb 7200 RPM hard drive coupled with the 32GB mSSD hard drive accelerator cache VERSUS the 2nd Generation Seagate 750gb 7200 RPM HYBRID hard drive that HP offers?
This 2nd generation Seagate hybrid is a beast and has done very well in the reviews.
Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Review | StorageReview.com - Storage Reviews
Momentus XT 750 GB Review: A Second-Gen Hybrid Hard Drive : Seagate's Momentus XT Picks Up FAST Technology
A small dedicated SSD will not work for me.
I am trying to in depth compare the mSSD cache coupled with a 7200RPM hard drive VS the 750GB Seagate hybrid.
Also why is HP only offering the Geforce GT 650M GDDR5 in a 2GB and NOT a 1GB for the dv7t quad?? The only 1GB video card option with he dv7t quad is the GDDR3 630M. -
Thanks for the code Animal. Couple of questions for you pros:
Is the dv6t too big to carry around for school?
Does the 9cell battery over hang from the computer? -
-
-
Laptop isn't too big, but it all depends on what you consider 'too big' (that came out wrong).
Just go to BestBuy, Costco, or other store that sells them and decide for yourself.
In my opinion there isn't much difference between dv7 and dv6 size and weight wise, but it's just me. -

1. I'll mainly be doing video/photo/music editing and some light gaming (I'm a Total War fiend..). So, I initially chose the 3610QM based on many suggestions to just save the $170 as the 3610 should suffice, but, I've recently seen a couple people who've chosen the 3720QM and mentioned it might help with video editing. I noticed a link posted showing the benchmarks, but I'm not at all tech savvy and have no idea what the difference is between 8,079 (3610QM) and 9,644 (3720QM). Will the 3720 be beneficial over the 3610 in a couple years? If you were in my shoes (doing a lot of video/photo editing) would you make the upgrade for $170? Does the small difference justify the $170 price difference?
I'm going to go with the 650M 2GB. I would do 1GB of the 650M if I had the option but maybe the extra GB will help.
2. I've chosen the 8GB DDR3 memory for now but should I eventually look to upgrade to 16GB? would the 3720QM cpu require more memory or is there no relation there? if you do suggest upgrading to 16GB, is there a certain brand or type you'd recommend?
3. Since I'm going with the dv7t (2 hd slots) I figured that I'd just get the 750GB 7200rpm for now, avoid the 32GB mSSD and eventually just purchase a full SSD. I seen people recommend the Crucial M4 and I will probably go with that but... 64GB or 128GB??? Also, I've seen a post with the Elpalmsoft.com SSD Tweaker, will this work to assign the OS to the SSD? Is it easy to use?
4. Finally Norton... I know about everyone here has condemned it to the depths of mordor. But, given it's now free for 15 months should I just deal with it and try to change some settings so its less obtrusive or should i still opt against it?
Thanks in advance for any replies. -
I would go with a larger SSD, that way you have room for the OS and a variety of programs. "Free" or not, Norton stinks. No one should have to deal with it when there are actual free A/V programs that are vastly better. I use Avira, it's free and it does everything I need it to. I've yet to get a virus and I've been using it for 4 years. I use Malwarebytes for everything else. Kaspersky's not bad either, but not free. -
SO I just ordered the QuickShip model! I'm hoping this 1080p anti-glare screen is as good as people say. I'm also hoping there's no constant static through the headphones like on the previous gen dv7 I tried out...
Either way, I'm psyched for it -
) and hopefully its within 21 days

I know that some of you are now looking for the most currently compatible drivers (especially if you're performing a clean install), so I created a separate driver thread just for these models.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...rs-hp-dv6-7xxx-dv7-7xxx-intel-ivy-bridge.html
Some of the drivers in this thread are provided by HP, while others directly originate from the manufacturers themselves. Most of these drivers are the absolute latest that I as well as others have found to be compatible.
I encourage your feedback and suggestions on how I can improve these threads! I will be updating the driver thread in the not-so-distant future to include Windows 8 driver compatibility. -
Isn't that pic says Dv6 has one hdd bay and Dv7 has two hdd bays? -
15.6" 1366x768 displays limit multitasking and productivity because they make things onscreen large, and they tend to have poor image quality due to low contrast. I don't recommend this type of display to those who have a budget that allows them to get a laptop that has a better display and at the same time suits their needs, and who don't require large text for eyesight-related reasons.
The DV6tqe should (generally) not be bought in a configuration that includes the stock 1366x768 display instead of the upgraded 1920x1080 display for reasons not related to eyesight.
Don't forget the configure the price up to $1099 and apply coupon code NBY3752 to make it $999. The 1920x1080 display should be one of the upgrades that brings it up to this price, and the GT 650M 1GB should be another. Then you have $75 more in upgrades to add until the coupon code works. -
