Hey guys, I just bought this computer and I'm really loving it. My question for al of you is how do you keep it clean. What products and materials do you use to clean the screen, keyboard, and the touchpad plastic?
What a fantastic machine, the 6770M lets me play all my games at full settings!

Also, I'd love to know what sleeves you all are using to carry this thing around in. Wouldn't want the top to be scratched in my backpack!
-
Those timbuk2 sleeves look nice, but would an HP 16" Onyx sleeve do just as fine? Or is there considerable quality difference between the two.

Where can i see fully disassembled dv6 6077? Wanna see what's inside

I see that as of today the estimated ship date on the DV7t Quad is June 2nd.
When I ordered mine 2 days ago it was June 6th. This might be a good sign, maybe they are going to start shipping faster! -
-
How in the hell did you happen to figure this out btw? Hahaha
Anyways, my dv6 is still in the exchange/refund period. I'm contemplating returning it and ordering the 1080P laptop with 2gb 6770 and maintaining the same specs as my current laptop. The problem is that HP won't honor my current coupons so I'd end up paying ~300 dollars more.
Y'all think it's worth it? -

Oops! Meant to mention that even though I have been much less than impressed with HP's customer service, I am quite impressed with their return process.
I received my return confirmation email with label instructions from FedEx less than an hour after talking with HP about the RMA. After restoring the computer hard drive to original state I packed the computer up and dropped it off at FedEx at 3:00 for a 3:30 pickup. By 3:48 I had an email from HP stating that my refund was being processed.
Given my customer service experience(s) I was very surprised that the return process was so painless. -
the thing is that the non FHD screens absolutely suck between all the manufacturers and the only good screens in terms of color/viewing angle are the FHD screens.

Did anyone notice that the lightscribe option is no longer listed on the blu-ray/dvd selection page? Did they do away with it or is it now included with all such drives?
I did notice that the spec PDF of the quick ship shows the lightscribe logo with the other logos so I am assuming it is now standard.
Anyone know? -
I think they have updated their online order statuses as well. With my original order it only showed "in production" then (I believe) "shipped". When I looked at my order a few minutes ago, it shows "order dropped to factory". I created the original order online; due to technical difficulties with the coupon, I placed the new order over the phone using HP Sales - maybe that makes a difference...shouldn't but maybe it does. -

Just have few Q's,
Does it have a back-lit keyboard or not?
Does it get really hot or no?
Sound/Speakers are good or no?
2GB VRAM card is good or no (for CAD stuff)?
1080P screen is any good or no?
Thx -
It gets uncomfortably warm for me when plugged in an on my lap. I just unplug it and it's fine.
Speakers are outstanding (for a laptop)...really impressive
Don't know what your VRAM question means...haha
I don't have a 1080P screen so no comment -
Thanks for the quick response..
VRAM (graphics card memory), is not 2 GB instead of 1GB. Many says it is just marketing gimmick. I was wondering if anyone CAD (Computer Aided Design) user can point any benefits of more GPU ram...
I was looking to get this but after hearing about no back-lit keyboard and high temps, I will look somewhere else...can't imaging why they would up the VRAM/Screen resolution but not add backlit keyboard and do something about the heat... -
-
Tahoe1: Please let me know what the temps are like with your upgraded laptop. Also, please post if it has a back-lit keyboard or not when it comes.
Thankx -
Thought there must be something wrong, so I opened up the second one to reapply thermal paste. HOLY CRAP the factory application SUCKED! Half of it was not covered, gigantic bubble in the middle of CPU, and lots of it was squeezed to the side on the tape.
After reapplication, it peaks around 80C and the physics score in 3DMark11 went up about 800 points. -
Hi,
does anyone have any experience with the HP service? I was wondering how long it takes for them to return a repaired laptop. I have dv6t-6000 quad edition with i7-2630QM/ATI6770M and I'm very happy with it, but the build-in camera and microphone stopped working. The camera completely disappeared from the device manager. I suspect a disconnected camera module cable.
Also, what temperature does the CPU core usually have on idle? Mine has 45-48C on idle with intel graphics and 50-54C with ATI 6770. Is that usual? Surprisingly, the laptop body warms only slightly, no discomfort at all, even after playing Crysis for extended periods, even when the core temperature rises above 90C. -

I would have considered returning my dv6tqe-6000 for one with the 2gig Radeon module and enhanced LED display, however, I have noticed that they nolonger offer an SSD option. Which for me, was a huge factor in deciding my purchase. I went with the SSD and usb3.0 portable drive option purposely to alleviate any issues that may have risen due to heat. Which quite a few high-end notebooks seem to suffer from, IMO. Just the way it is...
-
-
What is the difference between a "select edition" and a "quad edition?"
They both seem to offer similar builds...I really can't tell the difference except for the processor.
I found some random temps in this thread...but if someone could just tell me for reassurance the temperatures under no load and full load please!
Temperature really is an issue for me lol. -
Is this notebook purchasable in Canada...?
-
Oddly enough, I purchased a quad edition...however, when it showed me my receipt online it is labeled as a select edition. When I log into my hp account, it also identifies it as a select edition. But when I got the confirmation email regarding my laptop order, it was labeled as a quad edition. I compared everything, and EVERY spec I had picked for the quad edition was going to be installed in it, and the price was exactly the same. So...I don't think there IS much of a difference other than nomenclature.
I guess the only difference would be if you wanted to order a quick ship quad edition, it would be kinda like ordering a custom select edition. -
Did it, love it. -
-
It's a tough decision to make a $150 upgrade to the display when you can get an external 22" FHD for $100.

I've had a rough day with the Macs that we have at home. Lots of zapping PRAMs and resetting PMUs. The thing you gotta hate about Macs is that they just stop recognizing things after a while and the logic (mother) boards go bad all the time. So much for paying a premium for proprietary hardware to maintain quality control.
However, having had to use the keypad on a Macbook for the last few hours, I gotta say that the pinch-zoom and two finger scrolling on the Mac is flawless and makes the one on the HP look real bad. The DV mousepad doesn't recognize 2 fingers most of the time. -
I have quad core one, and on gta 4 i see some weird slowdowns. Its like im playing on 30 fps and its not smooth, then its suddenly 50fps for 2-3 min and then back to 30. No logic.
Any way to disable turbo and speedstep? -
Has anyone noticed 4-5 seconds freezes during gaming with the disk led on?
See this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ring-gaming-new-dv7-sandy-while-disk-led.html -
GPU overclock but not recommended
Why? Not recommended in general or this concrete laptop won't like gpu overclock? What's the reason? Please update first post. -
Sounds like something is wrong with your macs. I have an old iMac and a MacBook at home and both have never had motherboard issues. I've only had to reset the pram on the MacBook once after I spilled water on the keyboard and needed to replace it.
Also, stay away from BofA. Horrible, horrible institution. They're leading the charge at higher and higher nickel and dime fees. Cancel that card ASAP and take the short-term credit hit of losing some debt to income on your FICA... -

The Macs are pretty reliable over time. Usually when a logic board goes bad, it is only one component that goes bad, like some bus controller, or some fan controller. Annoying, but doesn't completely immobilize it. We've had many over the years, since I play IT guy to my creative wife.
If you're using Skype, video will not work with any of the newer 5.xxx versions, you'll need to download the 4.xxx version. Download Skype 5.3.0.111 - FileHippo.com It was the fix for me. -
finally can someone give a complete review about the 1080 screen update?how's the quality?is it 95% gamut?
and are the new 2gb6770 will boost up the performance for real? -

It's when the Radeon graphics are turned on that the area to the left of the trackpad warms up and the fans kick on. I did some basic testing with Prime95 and Furmark and it was about the same as most good laptops I've seen(sorry don't remember the exact temps, mid 80's C). My laptop is currently being returned for the 1080p screen upgrade so I can't test. Being a computer consultant for the last 20 years I've seen my share of crappy laptops and this one was quite a surprise in the noise and heat department for a quad core i7(2720).
If you're a gamer I'd look in the "Gaming" thread, I believe there are a lot of posts discussing temps there, keep in mind some of those guys have OC'd their GPU. -
Hey guys, I really want this computer for gaming, but the base model with the 1 GB 6770m video card for $822.49 is just a little too expensive. I would use this coupon:

Can we expect any price drops or more powerful coupons any time soon? -
Honestly, I don't think I've used a laptop on battery as much as I've been using this one, and it is nice and quiet, especially at night when everyone's asleep and I'm just net browsing.
I'm going to check out the 90W power supply and see if it is any less of a brick.
