I have the 128GB C300 model and was very happy with it too. I think any of the new 6Gbps SATA SSDs are a great addition for a laptop.

Still have no response from the subwoofer, or even the bottom front speakers for that matter.... i have the newest drivers, beats is enabled....

I dont know what to do, the sound is not bad, but why the heck would I want 3 inactive speakers. Anyone got a idea whats up? Under config I also can only select 2 stereo, yet it recognizes 2 front and 1 bottom connections in IDT properties.

Does anyone know what the new "15.6 Full HD Anti-glare LED Display 1920x1080" looks like? Is this a matte screen? Or is it still glossy, like the FHD screen on the Dell XPS 15?

Please, please, please let it be matte...

It is matte. That is the "anti-glare" feature.

No one has seen one in person yet because they were not available on the Dv6 and dv7 until 05/18/11. Supposedly they are going to have good color reproduction. Anything has to be better than the standard screen though... man.

Yes I am absolutely sure, the damn beats thing only lowers treble and bass to minuscule levels when its off. Fn+b spamming does nothing. I am not a complete retard :(

There are several ways to not ever have to use that !@#$%^&* eject button. Powershell scripts, VBscript, cmd utilities, programs that sit in the system tray. Use AutoHotKey or AutoIt to assign a keyboard shortcut if that's what you prefer.

I'm not terribly fond of Gail. She wasn't helpful when the whole xbox promo thing was announced. I was able to get $50 back-end credit for the xbox promo AND I just got $47 now for the 8GB as I used the 30% off coupon and didn't pay the full $60. Woot!

I've normally had the best luck talking on the phone, but for this I chatted.

tel:1-888-227-8451. This is the best number for HP (the resolutions department) as it usually only rings once before you're put in touch with a live person who can help you straight away.

I ordered my dv7tQE last week (with 8GB RAM for $60 extra), and "Josie" was quite a haggler in the on-line chat. I ended up getting a $55 refund, although I probably could have got $60 by pestering her a bit more.

Many thanks for the good review. The build quality of the Envy models are probably better than the dv6t models - which likely explains the cost difference. In your opinion, please let us know if the Envy 14 display size seemed overly limiting when compared to the dv6t 15.6" display.

Also, has anyone done a hands-on comparison between dvt6 quad and the Dell XPS 15?

    1) The brightview 1366x768 screen on the dv6 and envy 14 are about identical for everything (resolution, contrast, color gamut, etc...) except for size and viewing angle (dv6 has narrower viewing angles). So as for screen real estate, the base model screens are identical. However the (non-available) upgraded Radiance screen on the envy 14 is quite nice, I've only seen it and never owned it. The dv6 now is offering a 1080p FHD screen (although I still prefer 1600x900), so it should offer quite a bit more workspace than the 1366x768 panels (about twice as many pixels).

    2) I have seen the XPS 15 in person, and I have to say it does not appeal to me in anyway - form factor, weight, graphic performance, design, etc. I am by no means favoring the HP brand (except for their return policy), but the dv6 > XPS15 in every way unless you are in need of 1) great screen (debatable now with 1080p upgrade on the dv6), 2) dual band wifi card (get a friggin dual band USB adapter for $20 if you need it that badly...), or 3) backlit keyboard (seriously a flowery luxury and not a necessity). With the dv6 you are looking at about 50% faster GPU, better design, build quality, better sound (no contest for headphone jack, and play around with the Beats audio setting if you think the XPS speakers are better), for cheaper.

The DELL JBL speakers (w/subwoofer) are indeed better... the dv6t, without a subwoofer, is only marginally better than my old dv6426us over the speakers. The dv7t audio isn't that great or anything, but certainly tolerable.

I've been sifting through this thread for a few days now and decided to get the dv6t while the 30% coupon was still available.

    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
    • 2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.5 hours of battery life +++
    • 15.6" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
    • FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
All-in-all, it ended up being $1085 after taxes.

I tried to get them to let me upgrade to the 8GB of RAM since it's free now but the lady wouldn't budge even after I threatened to cancel my order. 6GB should be more than enough though. :p I opted for the FHD, 1080p screen over the standard one. Has anyone done the same and upgraded? If you have, feel free to give me some feedback on it.

By the way, if you were issued credit in chat and have either yet to receive anything, or even for it to show up in your order history, call them. Mine didn't show up and so I called to ask them about it and they saw where the credit was requested, but it had yet to be officially issued. If you call them, they'll go ahead and push it through for you, speeding up the process.

A big thumbs up to HP for this. I can't believe the build I got for $795/shipped!

I can tell you when it comes to build quality (I have multiple Envy products from different generations) the dv6tqe-6000 & 6100 are equal if not better. If you play w/ an Envy 17 you will notice more keyboard flex but there is some inbetween the keyboard & number pad.

Also FYI the dv6t-61000 (LM720AV) is now available on Partsurfer. Showed up yesterday afternoon. HP PartSurfer

I chatted with Nancy M. She first offered $20...

Me: "my question is about this...when I ordered last Friday, I included an upgrade for 8gb ram and now it is being offered as a free upgrade"
    Agent (Nancy M): "Okay."
Agent (Nancy M): "Will a $20.00 credit back to your account work for you?"
Me: "actually, I'd like the full cost of the upgrade, which I believe was $60 credited back to my account"
Agent (Nancy M): "I will check this concern with my supervisor first."
Agent (Nancy M): "Please stay in the session."

Did not want or have to argue, simply waited and occasionally checked in. It took awhile but patience paid off.

I know that they cannot change an order once it has been placed so I don't even try; but they can give credits so that is what I go for! They of course need authorization / approval, so patience and kindness pays off (on occasion)!

When I purchased mine, I used the 30% coupon. I hadn't even bought the 8GB upgrade in the first place and was offered $40 just to keep the laptop. Lol. The chat took about 20 minutes. I was patient and respectful.

So you actually ordered the 8gb in the first place?
I did not and I cant get Dawn F to budge. she is just telling me to call resolutions. Last time I did that they didnt show me any love though. I wonder if since I didnt upgrade they wont help me out.

EEdit: Just seen your post moyer. Damn I was patient and respectful too. They still didnt hook me up. Who did you chat with. I may attempt to get a new rep to chat with. Couldnt hurt I guess.

I talked with Marissa B. My original query was to see if I could just have the 8GB added to my order since I had not ordered it in the first place. I was just patient and tried to seem as calm as possible.

05/26/2011 11:07:46AM Agent (Marissa B.): "I see that you have ordered one of the best laptops that we have, HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC."
05/26/2011 11:08:16AM Agent (Marissa B.): "I am sorry that we cannot modify an order once it is submitted."
05/26/2011 11:09:02AM Agent (Marissa B.): "You can either go with a cancellation request and place the order again."
05/26/2011 11:10:06AM Agent (Marissa B.): "However, we may not be able to use the coupon code that you have in your order."
05/26/2011 11:10:46AM Matthew Moyers: "Yeah, I believe that it has expired now. Is there nothing else that could be done?"
05/26/2011 11:12:56AM Agent (Marissa B.): "How about if I offer you an addtional discount of $40 to keep this notebook?"
05/26/2011 11:13:30AM Matthew Moyers: "That would be great, actually."
    05/26/2011 11:13:43AM Agent (Marissa B.): "Okay."
05/26/2011 11:14:02AM Agent (Marissa B.): "Let me go ahead a process this credit for you."
05/26/2011 11:14:29AM Agent (Marissa B.): "But, this will be posted in your account within 3 to 5 business days after you receive your order."

Yes, I did upgrade to 8gb to begin with. You can wait and try chatting with someone else. You just never know...

Also, the first lady I talked with, Rhea I, would not budge at all. So I ended up opening a new session ten minutes later.

Lets move discount talk to the " order status thread"

This is what I've noticed. The first few customers to contact support (via chat) to get a back credit (refunded to your card when you receive the laptop) will get it if they're lucky enough to get a good support tech. Otherwise, the latter folk are SOL unless they're incredibly persistent and a bit lucky. For the xbox promo, I was flat out denied any credit time and again when others were given $100 almost without asking. Persistence split the difference with a $50 credit...although I've yet to see that credit on my card.

Thank you teotuf for you very detailed review! It helped me a lot.

By the way, I don't know if you guys are aware of the free Xbox360 deal or not. But for those who don't know it:
You get a free Xbox if you are a student and buy a computer/laptop from HP, MS or Dell. To prove that you're a student you need an ".edu" email.

    Link for the offer: here

I have that same build, except for the 6 GB of RAM. You've gotta agree with me that the 1 TB Toshiba drive is so quiet at 5400 RPM, and the machine is fast enough to not care that it is 5400 RPM.
