The Windows Update driver contains both intel drivers with the amd drivers but it lacks the CCC. At least it is later than what posted on HP download site (11.2, WU 11.4)
Note the 103c Subsystem ID, which means this driver came from HP and is also a HP OEM AMD Driver.
You can manually directly download the drivers off the Windows Update Catalog.

Hi I have a question for the computer experts here. Is it important to download ALL of the software and driver updates from the HP website once I receive my Dv7t QE or are just a few of them required to get the max performance from the laptop? If only a few of them which ones are the necessary updates? Thanks for all the help
-
-
i have the dv7t-6100 fhd 1080p, my problem is that the laptop is always on intel hd graphics, there is no switching tool that i can find, before you could switch by using the catalyst icon or when you on ac power it switch to amd, now nothing. i check, the amd 2gb 6770m is there but there is no way to use thecard. the only thing i found is on the catalyst program there is a page to add the programs you want to use with the amd card but that does nothing

now its HP 3 me 1..I lost this round Now I will keep my grey steel work on my youtube video I said i would post back in may for Clean install win7 and using certain cleaners like CCleaner etc...then i will make the REGEDIT video with (windows install clean up utility) here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml they stopped offering this tool in 2009 but softpedia still has it for download-- -
The underware/calibration analogy is a good one dgobe! I don't know that it's quite that drastic when comparing like panels, but it does drive home the point. Based on my experience having done somewhere around 50 different calibrations on LCD, Plasmas, and digital front projectors (LCOS/SXRD, 3LCD, and DLP), I've found that like displays from the same manufacturer/lot tend to show the same characteristics, but you are absolutely correct that no two displays are exactly alike, so there will be variances that leave your display less accurate than if it were calibrated individually. Provided the calibration was accurate, it can sometimes give a good starting point, but you will always need to do some tweaking. FWIW though, I've seen the least variance among LCD panels than any of the other technologies, so that is a good thing for those who do not care to invest the time or effort into buying the equipment or learning how to calibrate themselves. For those who do, I really like the i1D2 out of the low cost meters, and am partial to Spectracal Calman over HCFR, but it costs a fair amount more. Although, Spectracal does run specials every so often that can net you both for just under $200.

So far performance has been great out of my 2GB 6770m, but I'm not loving the autosensing feature that decides which gpu to use and would prefer to manually toggle it on and off. Is there an easy override?
-
Also, anyone buy a sleeve for their laptop? I spent $7 at Amazon to get the HP Onyx... free shipping for students, so if it is ugly or doesn't fit its not that big of a deal. -
Yes, it is totally automated. You can either specify which programs use which GPU, or after a set period, it autodetects. So far it appears to work well, but interferes with any benchmarking.
To view the options, you can right click on the display and select configure switchable graphics and it will bring up that specifc tab in the CCC. It's not a bad feature, but I'd also like to switch on the fly. The good news is that I got right around 4 hours 30 mins. on a single charge of my 9 cell battery on the DV7TQE with mixed usage at near maximum brightness by letting the autoswitching do its thing! -
-
There is a checkbox that says something like "Use Power saving graphics when on battery"
It should say "when unchecked graphics switching is manual, it will stay on whatever you last set it to regardless of being plugged in or not"
At least that's how my old dv6t with 1GB card worked. -
it gives two options for power savings: either performance mode or power savings mode for both AC Power or battery power, but it appears to be independent of the autosensing, since even in performance mode it still switches back and forth between the Intel HD gpu and the 6770m depending on the application. I didn't see a setting there to override, but I'll look at again this evening.
-
If the option is not there, would you be able to disable the Intel HD GPU in the Device Manager, forcing use of the 6770m? Either way, I haven't run into any glitches with games or apps that needed the 6770m at this point. Really, it was only during benchmarking that it kept popping up a window asking which gpu to use, forcing me to have to go back and re-run the test. Otherwise, it appears to work pretty well.
-
Can you post your driver and CCC version? You seem to have a fork and maybe a later version.
The way you are describing is pretty much the same way how the current Nvidia's Optimus works.
Looks like the they are finally pushing out AMD Dynamic Switchable Tech, they used to tout a couple of months ago.
If it is, it would be eventually pushed to all switchable models starting with the AMD 6000M line. Which is good news, reducing the
dependency with HP for drivers -
Has anybody been able to get cpu z to see their ati card? Even if in the CCC i set it to high performance it still only sees the integrated card. I really wish there was just a hotkey or something that I could setup to switch the graphics on the fly. I was really hoping this was possible, when reading the forums before I really though that this was the case.
Edit: should of refreshed before I quick replied -
-
and your Driver? If it should be in the software information.
labeled under Driver Packaging Version -
Edit: in device manager i have driver version 8.830.6.2000 -

My joke for the day!! opps -
So even with pc wizard it says that I have two graphics cards but it wont give me any info about my ati car, only the integrated. All well at least it works I guess. I still wish it was just a hotkey setting though, I would love to just be able to control it myself rather than having to make all these settings for each individual program, it is convienent but not all at the same time lol
-
These new cards may be different but I recall GPU-Z having a drop-down box near the bottom where you could select either card and see the info for it.

THis is really annoying me. Why all of a sudden is the manual switching not working? I started a thread on this but no responses yet.

fiveoneooo, I think I have the same driver. I'll confirm this evening. I was able to get the GPU-Z to recognize the 6770m by playing a game that utilized it, and then doing an Alt+Tab and running it while the game was still active. If it's not active, it sees it in the drop down, but does not report the correct speeds, etc. Only the basic info is reported. For games, it seems to autosense without telling it what to do, but you may also be able to set IE or something similar to Performance mode and run it in the background into fooling the drivers to use the 6770m.

Check out this:

Futureperfect has got the fix.
I updated via AMD 11.5b right over top of the HP OEM drivers. -
-
Well, their model seems to handle switchable differently than current method.
The difference is theirs is supposed to be more seamless, you don't noticed that it switched vs the one you know it switched due to the flicker.
Their driver isn't that much out of date either.
Also, I noticed they changed their switchable page now advertising Dynamic SG again. -
Anyone knows how to enable NUMLOCK and FLOCK in this laptop? Or are they simple absent???
Also, there used to be a small pop-up on the bottom right of the screen when i pressed the caps lock key. I did a clean install and now I don't know which program was doing that. Anyone?
Jeez i've seen bloatware on notebook but this is just ridiculous, no chance i could live with this without a clean install. -
Check out Futureperfect's scores on this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/582641-gaming-oc-vs-stock-comparison.html
He got a 600 point jump in Vantage at stock clocks on his 6770m. -
Benchmarks don't mean much to me.
I didn't say anything that goes against or support it.
I just said their models is a tad different from everyone else at the moment. -
-
I'm pretty sure that AMD would release a gadget tell which app is using the AMD card.
They should be, when Nvidia's has theirs.
------
Seamless is much better really. I dislike the manual switching method nowadays. There are so many random applications today are now default with 3D acceleration enabled. Switching in the middle while they are running causes annoying video behaviors.
Luckily, the Dynamic SG would be eventually pushed, starting with the current switchable models with AMD 6000m series such as the dv6/dv7-6xxx. -
OK, so its seamless now. But apparently now it won't work with firefox. Firefox is my browser, and I love running 4k vids. HOw can we get the 6770 to work when it won't turn on in dynamic?
Also, how do you know when it is running? Would CPUID tell you via the temps, maybe? Or some other program that monitors fans? -
If it like Nvidia's Optimus, just right click on Firefox shortcut, select run with High Performance or Add to profile -> default to High Performance.
I never seen the newer context menu, so I'm guessing of what a couple others seem to hint.
--------
4K streaming?? Can you pm me a link to an example?
I didn't expect this to be out yet especially a few of my colleagues are researching in that field. -
-
Yeah, I saw that. But the way he said it was ambiguous.
But there's no real indicator that if it is running. The Intel HD 3000 can run FHD video without a sweat. So I can't tell.
Anyways, I just tested it on mine. The Intel HD 3000 can run the 4k streams without a sweat, didn't break the 20% mark.
Made sure it was using the Intel HD. Wished I could say the same with my older i5100% death.
-
The CAPS LOCK message you speak of...I just hit CAPS LOCK and it gave me the pop up that it was on, then off. Try clicking on your desktop once, then hit caps lock. I think it may depend on what window you have selected. When I had the HP Recovery window selected while I made recovery discs, hitting CAPS LOCK would not make that box show up. Looks like whatever software makes it come up tries to choose when you would want that indication. -
awwwwww....no coupons, no discounts, no nice upgrades anymore. That stinks. I was about to order.
