I'd like to order the DV6t in a few days but then the coupon will be expired. I still want the discount though and so I hope that they will offer a new one right after the other one expires.

Wow the steel gray looks much better than the dark umber. I also like the non-reflective matte screen. Thanks!

One thing that I have noticed on these Dv7t quads with steel gray compared to the umber Dv7t quads I returned several weeks ago is that the keyboard lettering seems like it is more pronounced and easier to read.

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just my imagination?

Is it just an illusion? Maybe having the lighter color backing instead of the umber changes how you perceive the white letters.

EG: Both squares A and B are the same color.

Hello everyone, this is my first post since I am getting really frustrated with this dv7t that I received about a month ago.

I clean installed and I had enjoyed the laptop, HOWEVER, my dv7t started automatically restarting itself with no reason. It just randomly restarts while I was playing game, surfing, or turning back on from sleep mode.

I usually go to sleep while watching a show, but I find the laptop next morning with starting window screen as it already restarted itself or blue screen with laptop being really hot (lot of fan noise).

21 return day is already passed and I am just really frustrated with this $1000 new laptop. Anyone has similar problems, knows how to fix or even knows how to diagnose what the problem is? I would greatly appreciate the help.

Just verified and my display is also the LGD0283. For $105 after coupon, it was a bargain! If I had to do it again, I'd order the exact same config I got. No regrets here!

Dude, i totally forgot that I had to pay for the 1080p screen. Wow, maybe I will return, get the 720p screen and then upgrade on my own. Do you know if HP will honor my 30% coupon code if I return and reorder?

Nah when I installed the 11.5b drivers I used the reference ones right off of AMD's website. They installed just fine.

    YMMV

Right click on your desktop, open the Catalyst Control Center
Scroll down to the information panel
    Click Product Summary
    Click Hardware
About 3/4s of the way down it'll tell you the vram size and type

My first message coming from my new computer and I absoloutely love it. Got it back up and performed a minimal system image and it runs like a champ. Now i am just putting the necessary programs such as vlc, 7zip, crap cleaner and such and then it will be ready to go, just need to copy over the pictures from my external and all will be perfect. The 1080p screen is great, still getting used to the keyboard but i like the feel of it.

Overall i am completely happy with my purchase and feel like I got the best deal available at the time. Heck its better than any deal available still as far as i am concerned. Freaking awesome =)

I see the AMD Radeon drivers look different on the new dv7t's (maybe only with the 2GB VRAM, not sure). The switchable graphics is different, you can assign specific apps now to use certain video cards, and when you right click on the desktop you can choose "graphics properties" or "configure switchable graphics", there is no longer an option for Catalyst control center.

You should still be able to open the CCC from either the taskbar (it may be hidden, click the arrow) or from the Control Panel.

This probably wont show up if you're on battery/Intel Graphics.

On my dv7tqe before I returned it there were buttons in the Catalyst Control Center that let me switch graphics. I assume yours will have them.

I highly doubt it. I originally ordered mine with the 30% coupon. I called back when the 25% promo was going on and asked if they'd match the 5% between coupons so I could cancel and reorder with a higher processor and both batteries. I talked to a supervisor and everything and they wouldn't do anything for me. The said that they're system wouldn't let them do expired coupons or something. I didn't take it higher. I just got mad and hung up. It might depend on who you talk to. Some people seem more apt to helping you out.

Hey everyone. It's been a while, but I come back now because I know you guys are the best resource.

I'm trying to output 1080p through the VGA port and I don't think I can do it. I'm trying to run dual monitors. Have one monitor connected through the HDMI output, and that is running at 1080p just fine.

Now I connected a 2nd monitor for the first time through the VGA output and it's allowing a 1600x1200 max resolution. Is there any way to change this?

    Thanks!

LizardKing and others, I'll refer back to this little article I found that may be the culprit of the 6770 video issues. I'm really starting to question the value of the 6770 card. It seems like the money should have gone to 1866 RAM.

There is no reason I'm aware of that would prevent you from going VGA out to 1920x1080. Have you tried updating drivers? Will it do 1080p if one of your other outputs is disabled? (laptop monitor or HDMI)

Sucks that yet another person got silver rather than the umber color that they ordered :/ I'm supposed to get mine tomorrow, hopefully it is going to be umber as it's what I actually ordered. That said, if it were the silver I would just keep it. It won't look as nice as the umber in the vids/pics imo, but I'm sure it will have less fingerprints. That is a bonus, kind of.

If you don't decide to return it, stay tuned to this thread, there are pros here that are getting discounts, and I'm guessing that you can get some sort of refund for not getting the color laptop you wanted.

With the new monitor, I'm actually just using the TV for Hulu, Netflix, and movies/shows I've gotten, so resolution means very little. So I just switched the HDMI and VGA. The VGA goes to the TV, at a 1600x1200 resolution, and the HDMI goes to my new monitor. All is well in the world again. yay! :)

Thanks for the replies though, it's quite baffling indeed.

When I was on VGA, I did force it into 1080p resolution, and it looked fine, but the screen constantly jittered. I assume because it didn't like the low refresh rate of 30hz, which was the max I could do.

One last photo before I go to bed.

    Top: Dell 2408fwp monitor
    Left: dv6qe 1080p - Right: Vaio Z
    Calibrator used: Spyder2

    2408fwp > Z > dv6 >>>>> my crappy old netbook (not shown)

Color you see on photo above is little diffrent from what I see with my eyes.
However it gives general ideas. dv6 display looks a lot better after calibration.

Hello everybody. Just now I checked HP's Website and there is a new BIOS Update (dated 17/05/2011). I was expecting it to be F.07 but the version number is shown as F.14. Also, in the description part, there is something written in Chinese (which I can't understand and also Google Translate does not help). So has anyone tried it out yet ?

Displays are pretty unique. I know a lot of people in avsforum that ask for settings for a particular TV so they can be "calibrated" too.

It's like borrowing someone else's underwear. They may fit but it ain't going to feel right.

ColorHCFR is a free calibration program but you need a colorimeter. Spyder 2, Eye One Display 2 or LT are cheaper ones if you don't want to make your own.

What is the color temp on the DV6 lghtwave? It looks noticably bluer in the lower right part of the rock than the 2408wfp.

Hey guys I just looked on the HP website and now they have a color option for the Dv7t Quad Edition. You can get it in Umber or Steel. The Steel option is $25 more. Also it looks like the price of the laptop went up and they took away some of the free upgrades. My laptop will arive today. I will be happy with any of the two colors! This will be my third replacement I'm receiving so I just hope there is nothing wrong with the laptop!

dgobe is right. Displays vary so it may not look exactly same but can be somewhat better than the factory setting.

    Anyway, here's my underware. lol

    color temp is 6500K.

I just did clean install Windows 7 and it's working fine. It was powered on since last night and there's no fan noise nor over-heat so far. Mine is dv6 by the way.
I'm sure you can still send to HP to fix the issue if it's the hardware problem.

I had a lot of BSODs all of a sudden recently, I set the Page File to disabled to delete it, then turned it back onfor a fresh pagefile. I also seemed to have crashes while Google Chrome was running, uninstalled that and reinstalled, I don't trust it so am not using and no crashes so far. I need to use my machine more to confirm.
BSODs don't reboot your machine automatically, though, afaik.

Your machine will also reboot automatically if a Windows Update needs it. So you might check your update history and see if any dates match.

I forgot to mention you might try setting the machine to 'always on' and see if it still appears to reboot.

I got one BSOD when I first started playing around with mine. I had Firefox and a bunch of other programs loaded, and the switchable graphics kicked in and I didn't bother to read the warning and clicked ok. The screen flashed as normal, then I got the BSOD when it came back up. I haven't had a single problem since that one mistake on my part, lol.

    I'm so loving my dv7t!

I installed the new F.14 BIOS update (available in HP's Website Software and Driver Downloads). After installing it, I got the option of enabling Virtualization Technology. Previously, I was having F.06 (it came pre-installed) and there was no option in BIOS to enable Hardware Assisted Virtualization.
