Probably asked before, but I didn't find anything when searching.

How Do I turn off the LED around the trackpad? Damn annoying when watching movies in an dark room. Got an HP DV6-6071EO, it's an scandinavian model ;)

So i had crysis 2 running for a while without motion blur with barely any to no lag at all 1920x1080 with graphics settings in game to hardcore. and gpuz still logged only 725/216 which makes no sense to me lol. could it be a wrong reading? trixx is reporting the same thing. but the graphics are perfectly fine. and with the laptop cooler pad it maxes out at around 79 80c under 100% load.

Good question. I wouldn't worry too much about the reporting though, as long as you are not seeing any slowdown or performance issues in the game. As someone else posted on the graphics switching thread, GPU-Z was not designed to handle the way the newest cards handle autoswitching, nor were the overclocking utilities. It's hard to trust what they're reporting at this point.

An even easier way is to tap twice on the upper left corner of the trackpad, where there is a small square print

speaking of melting down and graphics...lol

I think with HP's move toward dynamic switching...I'm not sure the laptop is entirely dependent on OEM drivers any more. I installed drivers fresh from AMD for the Radeon (both CCC and the display driver) and its working swimmingly.

Now, maybe that means that the HD 3000 drivers include the information HP needs to have for switching being as though the IGP is the frontman for everything now.

Hey guys, about to make the purchase in a few weeks. Let me know if you have any reservations on the laptop as a whole.

    Are the speakers good?
    Is the battery life good?
Are the graphics switchable back and forth to conserve battery?
Should I get the 9 cell over the 6 cell? I feel like although the prop-up is cool, it wouldn't fit neatly in my backpack's laptop sleeve.

You want the 1GB GDDR5 Radeon HD 6770M
    Sam's Club still has them for $999.00 (+ 10% for non-members), but it's without the 1080p screen.

    My 2 lame cents:

With the newest revision (1080p) screens which is great looking on my DV6QE despite being 60 gamut or whatever, some people are kinda freaking about NOT being able to manually switch the ATI graphics on and off. Personally I haven't had a problem with dynamic switching yet, but it is a bit annoying having to set up programs with CCC, but really, it takes 5 more mins out of your life. That said, a manual switch would have been nice, as in "I'm plugged in, give me the ATI for EVERYTHING!"

Setting up dynamic switching is pretty damn easy however, I haven't had any issues AT ALL.

People who are running benchmarks have had issues with the latest drivers, that's not to say performance is broken or anything, it is more due to compatibility with the new drivers, which DO give a performance enhancement. (I went from p6089 to p6854 with 3dmarkVantage).

Personally, I may not have installed my drivers correctly,I'm not sure, but I CAN'T run 3dmark11 at all.

I was planning on OC'ing my GPU in the future, but at this time it doesn't seem possible with the new revision. Once ATI releases new drivers, who knows.

TL/DR : Screen is pretty awesome, performance is awesome, GPU switching has giving me no problem but I would have preferred manual (which is a reason I bought this comp, but it is really no big deal for me)

There might not be any OC ability anymore? (Future drivers might fix this but I don't know) This comp is almost perfect for me, but right now with no ability to OC I just may return it and suffer with something better (but HORRIBLE BATTERY LIFE)

Been searching for this for a while now and I can't find, so here it goes: Is there a way to make it fn+key instead of fn,key? For example, to turn off the light for the touchpad, I want it to be fn+spacebar (aka at the same time) instead of fn,key where u can first hit fn and then spacebar (aka, doesn't have to be at the same time). This is the setup I'm use to, and (since I'm use to the fn and control key being swapped) I keep hitting the fn key and then some other key and accidentally turning something on/off.

    Thanks

They are using multiple suppliers for everything, including BD drives. Mine is a Samsung ts-lb23l. It needs a firmware update too (Drive tries to seek when no disk is in there) :/

Also... some people said that they were getting additional discounts when they had to exchange due to HPs fault.... So whom do I call up for that?? I mean, to get the best discounts and get the best solution to this??
And...please quote some ways to talk to the reps in order to get a discount easily... really wanna save money now...!

I seriously doubt that you can get the 1080p screen outside of HPs website. If you can you will find it cheaper than their website but only if you dont have a good coupon code.

Did you order the DV7T? I kind of hope mine comes in the wrong color or something is wrong with it so I can get more money back. Haha. What you should do is call them up and ask to speak directly with a supervisor. That might get you the best results.

yes... I ordered for the dv7tqe... but getting something wrong will waste more time for the replacement.. btw how much time do you think will it take just to get the color changed? Will they ship it back to Shanghai for the fix? And how do I talk the supervisor to get the best discounts??? ;)
and yes.... supervisor of the resolutions dep right??

    1. Decent. Nothing special. A bit better than average for a laptop. The beats really only applies to sound through the headphone jack, which is awesome.
    2. Good depending on how you configure it. The 9 cell could get you 6-8 hrs at low level usage.
    3. Yes, but it's dynamic. Not to worry, it works quite well.
    4. Tough. I got both. I put it I the sleeve with the 6 so I don't poke the sleeve, but it would still fit in my sleeve with the 9. I use an hp onyx sleeve for $7 at Amazon.com. I put the 9 in the pocket for double the battery life while on the go.

Btw FHD screen is the only way to go. Beautiful

They would build you a new one, so it would take it to get there and them to ship a new one. You could call customer service, if it's the wrong department, they'll transfer you. Tell them your problem and then ask to speak directly to their supervisor. Say something like, "I really wanted the umber, but I'd hate to have to wait multiple weeks just to have the color changed. Is there anything you can do for me?" or something. You could talk to a CSR, but for most things, they have to ask a supervisor anyway, so you could just skip that part. If this doesn't work, I remember reading on here about someone who sent an email to the Executive Team of HP. I'll see if I can find that for you.

Edit: Found it. Email them with your experience with customer service, if it is unpleasant. Express your concern in the email, and that you would like to talk to someone personally about your issue.

Personally, I would. It was there fault and you should be compensated for their false marketing. Maybe don't be so blunt about it. You could first go into the chat and talk to someone and tell them what happened and they might offer you a credit, but if you aren't happy with it, call up CS and talk to a supervisor. It all depends on how high you want to take it, and what you will be happy with.

MIMO is part of the N spec, if it is an N card then it supports MIMO regardless if its just 2 antennas.

I reported this to HP. Sometimes it takes a long time to eject the tray and when playing media with WMP the system becomes unresponsive for several seconds while it around with the optical drive.

You can keep an eye on this web page:
    SAMSUNG ODD SERVICE

But there may be some risk in using firmware direct from Samsung instead of waiting for HP.

To the guy asking about hitting Fn: Just go to Bios and disable Action Keys. This will change the default to Fn key being OFF instead of defaulting to ON. I use the F1-12 keys a lot so this was necessary for me.

Random response to old unanswered question: You can set the touchpad to remember whether it is on or off after a reboot. Should be in the Synaptec settings. It will be on again after reboot, but will immediately turn off again.

Hey guys, I just got my dv6t quad today and was wanting to install an SSD in addition to the HDD it came with. Is there a caddy that anyone has used or that they recommend? I read the DIY guide about it on here but is there a more detailed guide or is it really that simple? Last question: will putting one in void the warranty or anything? Thanks!

PS: Sorry if this has been answered a ton. I did a couple quick searches and couldn't find anything.

You need to get the HD Caddy kit from HP that has two caddies and the primary and secondary cables (~$45). I got it last week, only needed the cable but now have the original 640GB and an old 500 from my old laptop.

OR get a cable kit from somewhere else. You ONLY need the secondary cable.
I hear orders are shipping from here now, were on backorder: 2nd HDD Cable kit for HP dv7t-6000, dv7-6000 series,dv7qte [HP-dv7t-6000] - $28.95 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

None of the kits I've seen come with hard drive mounting screws, so keep'em handy. I kinda expect come with them, but any drive bought will have come with them...

Ooops, looks like they have two kits now, I can't confirm the second myself though. You don't really need the caddy, all DV7Ts have come with both caddies so far (as far as I have heard).

It does take forever to eject with the button. I use the widget app and it works quite well. Another thing I found with F.06 is that sometimes the drive doesn't work at all when coming back from sleep.

Incidentally, I can't even get a mfg id, it just says generic HP in device manager.

So has anyone been able to determine the quality of the 1080p on the dv7t QE? How does it compare to the 1080p screen of the Envy 17 3D?

Lastly it seems like there have been some problems with the switchable graphics? Is there a way to just keep the ATI card ON all the time regardless of whether you are plugged in or not?
