I agree 110%. How difficult would it have been to allow for global manual switching of the preferred GPU in addition to an application-by-application basis? I have a friend who has the 6100 revision and cannot run any Second Life viewers. I have the 6000 revision and it boots fine since I'm able to designate the high performance ATI as the global default. I'm returning mine which is only 10 days old in order to upgrade to the 1080 screen. I'm certain it will be the 6100 revision and I'll lose the functionality of Second Life.

hey guys i have a question. in the disk management, i want to partition my drive such that i'll have a C drive and a D drive. when i partition the drive, it warns me that all the disks will be converter to dynamic disks, which i do not want. how do i prevent that from happening?
EDIT: alright nevermind i figured it out. i have another question though. can i delete the hp tools partition? what happens if i delete it? -
So, I downgraded my ATI drivers down from 11.5b, and I'm still having the graphics switching issues.
I'm pretty sure it is the F.14 Bios. I'm going to downgrade back to F.06, or try F.13. On F.14, I'm getting lag and misreads on the fingerprint reader, USB ports and the optical drive just stop working. I have to sleep and wake to get it to work again. Anyone having similar issues on F.14? -

In my perceptive, it pretty daunting for newbies. They could barely a read and understand a simple set of instructions, let alone read a long list of settings/options.
-
Is there anyway to get a manual switch? It seems like there should be a work around or a way to enable it for all applications.

Hey guys, I have a quick concern with my new dv6tqe. It's a great machine, first of all.
I haven't configured everything, but I think I'm having a pretty bad heat/noise problem. All I have open right now is Chrome--not even any videos or anything--and my left vent is blasting out hot air. I'm not a computer guru, but I would suggest that the ati card is on. I went into CCC and put Chrome as "Power Saving." Any ideas? Since I haven't configured much, this may be a software issue that I need to iron out. If possible, could someone take a quick video of how it should sound? Maybe just a close-up of the left vent to get a sense of how loud it should be?
Also, does anyone have any suggestions about battery conservation? I have a 6-cell battery, and it's lasted about 2 hours with just Internet surfing--again, no videos. This may be as simple as working with those switchable graphics, but I came from a much older laptop with an integrated GPU, so even something like switchable graphics confuses me a bit.
Thanks for the help guys! -
I ordered my DV6t a few months ago when the1080 screen wasnt an option. I am NOT happy with the viewing angles and fidelity of my 13x7 screen. Is it possible to just buy the 1080 panel and put it on myself? Any good place to buy them?

I just picked up a USB 3.0 Mem Stick and the specs on the box are pretty amazing, 80 mb/s reads and 60 mb/s writes. Damn, that is about as fast as handbrake was transcoding files, you could do handbrake straight on the stick. Compared to USB 2.0 at 20/10.
They also had a 128gb stick there for like $200+ lol. why don't they just make SSDs out of those? -
I just opened up my new dv6tqe. I could use some relatively noobie help.
This is the first machine I've owned with touch gesture capability - and I can't figure out how to get it to work! All I have on the machine right now is Firefox, along with Explorer. I'm assuming these applications utilize touch gestures. The touchpad is working, but so far gestures do nothing. Do I need to get into a menu somewhere to switch it on?
I've seen mention of "Reil's app." What does this do, and where does one get it?
What is "CCC?" Where's it located? Windows 7 is new to me too, so if it's something that hasn't been in previous versions of Windows, I've not seen it before. -

Hmm, anyone have video playback issues with 'banding distortions' on the dv7t-6100 with radeon 6770 1GB? Any solutions? Both of mine that I ordered are doing so.
At around 38 minutes into the following video, it becomes apparent. Along with some other videos from the site below. Other notebooks are not having any issues.
Can Animals Predict Disaster? - Video: Full Episode | Nature | PBS
I updated all the video drivers/windows using windows update, not sure if there are other drivers that may work. I also update flash player and tried the k-lite codec pack too on one (but not the other) just in case, no dice.
---
EDIT:
Okay, looks like there is some issue between IE9/Flash player and Intel 3000 HD graphics. Firefox works fine though.
Interestingy enough, I had set IE to use the ATI graphics as well when testing. Obviously my suggestions where just that. It must switch back to Intel if the load is low regardless of settings. -
Hello,
I finally got drivers and such in working order... Now it is time to make sure the temperatures are all in the safety zone while gaming!
Two questions: What is the temperature the GPU must stay under while gaming, and what is the temp the CPU must stay under?
After 1.5 hours of playing SC2, I got a max of 77C on the GPU and 82C on the CPU (2720QM). Is that within the good operational range?
Thanks -

In reference to the video banding, I noticed that with Firefox running on Hulu and World of Warcraft running high performance behind it, there was an outline apparent in the video that lined up exactly with the edges of the World of Warcraft window (was running in Windowed mode so I could watch video as well).
It seems that whatever form of overlay that is used to make this dynamic graphics thing work causes slight interference in videos. Make sure if you are experiencing this 'banding' issue that you dont have something running underneath your video you are watching. -

Thanks man.... I will wait then....

I dont have an itouch but I'm not experiencing that issue when charging my Evo 4g from the USB ports
I have downgraded my bios once already, and re-upgraded it. I had no issues. I used the packs available for F13 and F14 and both worked just fine. -
I'm having issues that only popped up with F.14, I was on F.06 previously.
You should be able to get the package here:
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) -
But how to downgrade the bios.... I mean is there any particular method to follow while downgrading...

I've got a brand-new dv6tqe, which arrived yesterday. So far I have not been able to get touch gesture to work. Has anyone else experienced this? I've gone into the control panel and checked all the settings. Gesture is enabled, but doesn't seem to work. I can move the pointer around using the touch panel with one finger, but can't do anything with two fingers.
Any suggestions? -
I guess no one know what wifi card is in the dv7t?
How come when I search a thread (like this one), nothing comes up? Is it broken? -

Anyways:
My requirements when I purchased this machine were these: It must have a 2nd gen i7, 8 gig of ram, more than 500 gig of hard drive space, a mid to mid-high graphics card, a screen with a resolution higher than 1366x768, a blu-ray drive, and be as close to $1000 as possible (because I sold my 2 old laptops to pay for it, and that's approximately what I got for them combined). I met every single aspect spot on.
I have the machine you see in my signature, and these are my experiences with wow thus far:
In 1024x768 when I'm doing something else such as watching a video or browsing, it consistently maintains near 60 FPS (vsync on) in all but the busiest areas on High settings (ultra view distance). I frequently play like this because I use my machine at work and the public connection that it is connected to has fewer restrictions on what can be browsed (such as these forums).
When running full screen (windowed) 1920x1080 the game averages about 45 FPS (vsync on) with the graphics settings the same as above (high with view distance on ultra), it'll peak at 60, but it'll drop to around 20 fps, again in the busiest areas. Even at 20 fps it is not unplayable though and does not feel choppy. I havent raided on it yet but I imagine it'll average about 30 fps in raids with these settings.
You might ask why it gets middle level framerates in such an old game, WoW being more than 6 years old now. There is a reasonably simple explanation for this. WoW may be 6 years old, but it has undergone quite a number of changes in that time. Each expansion has brought about better graphics and new effects, in fact WoW now officially supports DirectX 11. To give you an idea, when WoW was released, DirectX 9 was the current spec and the fastest cards available were cards like the ATI Radeon X850XT.
I did notice an issue today when playing. I switched from 1024x768 windowed and had intended on selecting 1920x1080 windowed but accidentally set it to fullscreen. I dont know if it is the drivers I'm running (very likely as I've done a lot of driver installs on my system recently trying to work around the dynamic graphics) but I was getting about 0.5 FPS (again, this is fullscreen not windowed fullscreen). I'm going to work with the drivers a bit more to see if that is the issue.
In terms of heat and noise it seems to be about average when it comes to gaming on laptops of any type. The fan gets louder as the machine gets hotter, and really the only consistantly warm spot is the left side and upper left corner of the machine. Its not uncomfortably hot, but definitely gets pretty warm when pushing the machine.
I do have my laptop sitting on a cooler. A CoolerMaster Notepal U2. From what I've seen in comparison to other people who have posted non-externally cooled dv7t/dv6t 6xxx machines, I stay about 10'c lower on average.
Overall it gives good performance. I have yet to try it on battery and I need to work out whatever the performance issue I caused with the drivers is, though I imagine if I return it to stock drivers it'll clear up. I currently have the 11.6 beta catalyst drivers installed.
EDIT:
Just bumped the drivers back down to stock and it cleared up the fullscreen stuttering problem. Not that I ever use it in fullscreen (non windowed) but hey, just wanted to verify it was a driver problem -
got my dv6 at last! after reformatting, I installed the latest catalyst drivers on the HP website and the Intel and 6770m graphics are working great! Now I need to move on to gaming. How do I update with the hotfixes? Do I install 11.5a and then 11.5b?
-
As for Reils app... I am unfamiliar with it to. What is this mystical, magical application? -
So I have a real pressing question on the gpu. What exactly is the problem that everyone is talking about. I read something about the gpu not working at all or something like that. If I were to order it now, would I have those out of the box of the gpu not working or is it just a 1 out of every so-and-so machine has this problem.
-
In my experience it has seemed to work fine so far, and the hope is they will add a manual switch to the dynamic switching with a driver update in the future. -

Anyone using a SSD in the dv7 yet that cares to share their experience with us. Im leaning toward the Intel 510 Series SATA III 120 Gig. I guess simply due to the reliability issues. It seems to me that there are more issues to deal with when you use the faster rated OCZ Vertex SSD. I just want it to work out of the box! I of coarse want the speed but I dont want to deal with the problems that seem more likely with the other drives. Someone correct me if I am wrong in my thinking. I have read till Im silly and this is the thinking I wound up with. Any thoughts and experiences shared would be appreciated.
-
I have heard that it's cheaper to just buy 2x 4GB RAM and then replace the "old" ones with the new ones.
Is it worth upgrading to blu-ray for $125 or should I rather buy a blu-ray writer and then replaced the initial one?
Does the warranty void if you replace system components? -
-
No, it does not void the warranty unless it was the cause of the damage.
Also, HP is not responsible for any lost 3rd party installed hardware during service either. -

Has anyone noticed that the USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports have the same tranfer rates? Either 3.0 isn't working, or both ports work for 3.0. I put some USB 2.0 flash drives and they show slower tranfer rates than the 3.0 device, so there is a difference.
-
EDIT: by adding more options, I was able to get the coupon to work.(not that I'm ordering until after I hear the SG issue has been fixed so that I can run FSX)

For instance, I use a Second Life viewer daily. A friend ordered hers just a week after mine and while I received the 6000 revision, she received the 6100 revision. I have no problem running Second Life on my unit, however, even with countless hours on the phone with technical support, there is yet to be a way to allow Second Life to run on hers by using the Switchable Graphics interface as it currently stands. Apparently, due to the fact that the viewers are not compatible with Intel video chipsets, even designating the higher performance ATI graphics for that application does not work, it has to be the overall default GPU before the program runs. -
-
So I forgot to bring my charger to work today. So I decided to see how long this can actually last...
On powersavers, brightness minimum, wifi ON, I have the following...

If you are concerned with it, you can ask HP install it for you if they allow you. I know Dell does it with their On Site. -
