Thank you so much!
Will that cleaning kit be able to remove that sticker stain?
Also the case logic case doesn't fit my dv6qte as per dimensions. Is case logic the best in terms of laptop sleeves? They have other sleeves which fit my laptop.

As in MANUAL switchable graphics?
-
get the HD screen. it's far superior to the standard screen. I've had both and it's a really simple choice. the vertical viewing angle of the HD screen is great--and the viewing angle of the glossy std screen is AWFUL. everyone who's gotten the HD screen loves it. you will HATE the std. screen.
-
THanks, don't see how I missed that. I'm really looking at the screens between this computer and the Vaio SA. Love the design on the SA but the screen is incredibly average quality (worse than my 2003 dell monitor on my desktop).
Can anyone confirm this? That would be really nice if they put back the switchable graphics and would evaporate my fears for this computer (there would be hope yet to map the gpu switching to a key). -
No idea, provide feedback on the NBR HP Driver Thread.
It would help us alot if you tried it out and report.
Feedback means we can get the latest drivers that are not typically found in 6000 series download but from other models that
happens to works with the 6000. It would help ease the advanced portion of how to install it if necessary. <- Not always a simple double click.
Note that AMD update apply to both 6000/6100 models. -
I'm downloading those new drivers now.
As to the people having issues with FSX, I just downloaded the FSX demo and ran it, it defaulted to high performance and I ran GPU-Z during it and my Radeon definitely went into performance mode. What appears to be the problem? -
Finally placed the order last night. Following specs

If you have already installed the Windows update and the 11.5b hotfix AMD drivers you will have.
8.830.6.2000 AMD
8.15.10.2342 Intel
Didn't check the HDMI audio
I think these are just updates on the AMD side and won't fix the Blu-Ray over WiDi issue. Would be happy to hear otherwise though if someone wants to test. -
The drivers dont appear to be any different than what I alread had, it said it installed some stuff, and it acted like it switched my ATI graphics drivers, but it didnt do anything to my Intel drivers and my revision on my AMD drivers went from
8.830.6.1000
to
8.830.6.2000
Going to run a couple of quick tests to see if my game performance remains the same. -
Here's the HTML file that goes with that download, it's old from May 6th:
TITLE:
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver
VERSION:
8.830.6.2000
DESCRIPTION:
This package provides the AMD High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver and Catalyst
Control Center for supported notebook models that are running a supported
operating system. For notebooks with switchable graphics modes, this package
includes drivers for both graphics processing units (GPUs). Switchable graphics
enable users to switch between a power-saving graphics mode (normally used under
battery power) and a high-performance graphics mode. If high-definition
multimedia interface (HDMI) video output is supported, this package also
installs the HDMI Audio Driver.

In CS:S and World of Warcraft my performance appears identical (not that I expected anything different, my guess is that difference in the subrevision is simply the inclusion of Intel drivers to the 11.4 build
EDIT:
I just checked the INF file for the default drivers included with my 6100. The revision did indeed read 8.830.6.1000, which means there is no different for the ATI drivers in this new build is my guess, the revision is supposed to be an update for the Intel drivers, of which mine are already newer. -
Isn't 8.83 and old version of the driver? My driver version reads 8.86. So I would have to essentially downgrade in order to get switchable graphics?
-
If the driver versions are the same as the hotfix, then it's just HP catching up to the official release. Better late than never
Really, the more experience I get with the dynamic switching, the less I see a need to manually switch. It would still be nice for benchmarking, but how many games/applications that needed access to the 6770m have we seen that were not using it? Maybe someone should start a list and then we can troubleshoot against it to make sure it's actually the dynamic graphics. So far, I've only played Crysis 2 and SC2 of the modern games on my DV7T-6100. I've also play COD4, BF2, and a couple of steam demos. All of them ran without a hitch and were using the 6770m. I know FSX was questioned by dave... Are there any others?
-
yes, that's what I need to work with a DV6. I don't want to resort to getting a desktop.

No, it's the same 11.4 (OEM drivers start at 0, thats why it reads off 8.83 instead of 8.84) released a couple of months ago via Windows Update. If it was the 11.5, you would have that weird right corner mouse lag, which was annoying to me.
I was wondering if someone do a real clean install with that posted driver and see if there is any change to the CCC Switchable Option.
Post if using the 6100 or the 6000 as well. -
Sigh, after all of this, I think the dv7tqe 6100 just isnt doing it for me. I think I'm going to return it and the warranty and buy an Asus G73SW-XT1
The switchable graphics being governed by HP is really the breaking point for me. I love the look, feel and stylization of the dv7tqe, but I cant let HP be the sole source of my drivers, particularly for graphics. -
before you do that, check this out:

There appears to be hope in the form of a BIOS update and ATI update for manual graphics ability in the 6100 revisions. There is a post in another thread that reports having MANUAL and dynamic switching after the updates.

If we go manual can we use AMD's drivers? It still comes down to a question of whether I can get my updates from AMD or if I have to rely on HP to support it (which they wont once the next revision is released)

Unless something has changed, to my understanding laptops have never been able to use original manufacturers video card drivers, because they were not optimized/designed for mobile.
This is what made websites like these popular:
laptopvideo2go.com
and
Omega Drivers
and
TWeaKFoRCe.CoM your source for the latest Video Drivers
When did things change that people with laptops did not have to depend on the manufacturer of the laptop or websites like these? -
regardless of auto or manual, you can always use the AMD drivers for the 6770m.
-
It looks like HP is now offering 12GB (2 DIMM) and 16GB (2 DIMM) upgrade options for $320 and $520 respectively on the dv6tqe. With 33% off, that brings them down to ~$214 and ~$350.
Unless something has changed recently, 8GB DIMMS normally run in the 600-800 range EACH, and have to be special ordered. Less than $200 a DIMM with the 16GB option is a STEAL!
There are two prices on each config (12GB and 16GB). I chose the higher priced 16GB option in the off chance it is faster memory. -
omg where is the f*ckin maintenance guide for the dv7?
hp's website is plain bull, how can the biggest pc manufacturer in the wolrd have such a useless, crappy website.
the information is there, but it is impossible to find

What in the world are you doing where you would actually use 16gb of RAM? -
Well now that I've wasted another 3 hours attempting to enable manual switching and it still doesnt work, I think I've about had it.
I've spent literally days in the process of trying to disable garbage dynamic graphics. -
For anyone who tries to run Second Life viewers the dynamic graphics does not work. Prior to running the program checks the hardware for minimum requirements, one of them is no Intel. The program runs fine with manual switching, which is what I have in my 6000 revision.
-
I thought that the DV6T-6000 could only support 8 GB?
-
Just AMD, but a few OEM venders opt out of the main drivers like HP, Sony, Toshiba , don't know why.
Nvidia unified their drivers since GF 8000 mobility, unless using OEM vender specified cards which is pretty rare nowadays. -
Just had a 4GB memory module crap out...time to contact HP. It is ELPIDA branded memory.
Noticed that there are drivers for this WiFi card listed now:
Ralink RT5390 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter Ralink RT3592 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi Adapter
For those that wanted 5GHz connectivity and a compatible card. -
well uh, took the plunge and ordered one of these for my own tonight, hopefully i wont regret it. reading over these posts about the graphics switching does make me a tad nervous but well. mine isnt scheduled to come till end of june, so maybe this will be figured out by then?
anyway, my model/order:

1GB GDDR5 Radeon HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]

640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 9.75 hours of battery life -
I really want to get this laptop, and I understand there are major problems with the graphics right now. Is this something that will definitely be fixed eventually (like in a month or 2?) or may never be solved? I can deal with it not working/working well for a little while but don't want to buy a laptop with discrete graphics if it won't be utilized
Also can anyone tell me the real world battery life on the high capacity 6 cell versus the 9 cell? Can't decide which of the two to get -
I wouldn't call the graphics issue major. If you happen to run one of the few programs that refuses to use the Radeon chip I guess it could be, but for the most part everything works. I could even see some of these programs being updated to work properly with the existing drivers, but it's an unknown at this point.
I get about 8 hours light web browsing over Wifi on the 9 cell battery if that helps. Sometimes a bit longer if I'm not using a lot of Flash/video streaming sites. -
Oh, I was reading things wrong, I thought the problem was with all switching. Thanks. How much added bulk does it add would you say? I don't care as much about the slight weight gain as I do the bulk affecting portability
-
Took 1 hour and 25 minutes via web chat to get them to send a replacement chip. About 30min of that was running the Memory Test from the Diagnostics menu in the BIOS. They insisted that I run it even though I explained that I ran the Windows 7 memory diagnostic and memtest86+ to isolate the bad chip and make sure it wasn't a bad socket before contacting them.....which I really did, I wasn't just saying it. I also told them that I was able to boot into Windows with just the 2GB chip installed.
Of course the !@#%#$^# BIOS test completed successfully and said "Memory Test pass"!
So after that long test, he asked me to boot Windows and it was a near instant BSOD 0x0000007E. They asked me to try F8 and use the "Last Known Good" option, BSOD. A System Recovery attempt and that BSOD'd. Then they proceeded to tell me that they can't dispatch a chip until I've tried the System Recovery. Knuckleheads.
I removed the bad chip and told them that I just booted Windows successfully with just the 2GB module installed. Which I told them right off the bat. Uh, let me talk to my supervisor........we'll be sending you a new chip. Gotta love that tech support.
You know what people in IT say HP stands for? -
You STILL read it wrong: some apps won't turn the Radeon on. Like FSX, for example. that's just ONE example.
-
I stated that there are just a few programs(other than benchmarks which I don't see as a major issue) that refuse to use the Radeon chip. It looks like MSGuzy understood that and it wasn't a general problem with switching that affected all programs.
So it appears that the problem is understood. It should also be understood that FSX is one of the affected programs. Other than that and benchmarks I have only seen one person report that a Media Center visualization plug-in refused to use the Radeon chip. Are there a lot more? Anyone have a list?
EDIT: And the "Second Life" viewer program -
The 9 cell is a bit of a chunk but some people like it because it props up the laptop for better ventilation. I value battery life more than anything so I don't mind it.
You can always get the 9 cell and 6 cell, it's actually a much better deal with the coupons to get it now than to purchase a replacement down the road. -
Guys, why am I getting fps of 25-30 while playing a 5 year old NFS Carbon? I checked the graphics settings and set the high performance amd graphics for the game... I have maxed out all the settings and turned (at 1064x768) all those options like v-sync 'on'... Is that the reason for such unacceptable fps? But c'mon, isn't it a 5 year old game? I have the dv7tqe with 6770m 1gig... I am also getting a windows index score of 6.6 only for the gaming graphics...
Is something wrong?? -
anyone got the service and maintenance manual for the dv7? link or sth?
-
This is for the DV7Tqe-6000 series (manual switch graphics):
HPdv7tQuad-6000ServiceGuide.pdf
- Qlippoth -
6.6 isn't a bad score in Windows. Are you sure the 6770m is active and not the Intel graphics? Do you have 11.5b drivers installed?
-
It's been fun guys, but I've set up my dv7tqe 6100 for return along with the 3 year warranty. It just wasnt what I expected out of a $1100+ laptop so I'll be looking elsewhere.
Enjoy your machines, hopefully HP will figure out the driver issue to allow for more consistent better functioning switchable graphics. -
I applaud your decision to realize when "enough is enough"!
-
You'd figured they'd be working 24/7 to come up with a hot fix for this issue. People are sending machines back in droves it seems. I get mine next week and I'll give HP 2 weeks. If not just send it back and find something else.
-
and even if you don't send it back, I've got you covered, because I sent back TWO, and cancelled an order yesterday (after a certain NAMELESS person here FALSELY CLAIMED to have gotten a properly operating brand new driver).
-
I'm having a few problems with the HDMI out from the dv6tqe.
It was working earlier this morning; I used the HDMI cable that was plugged into my Playstation 3, and plugged it into my laptop, and it worked like a charm.
I unplugged it, and now, when I try to reattach it, the TV will just show noise. When I unplug it, the TV will show no signal, so the cable is clearly working. Also, the Laptop will adjust its resolution automatically. I've tried unplugging and replugging on both ends, restarting my computer, and turning the TV off. Nothing.
Any ideas? -
If it's like one of my Vizios, it sometimes need to be "rebooted", meaning rather than just turning the TV OFF, unplug it for a few moments and then turn it back on. good luck.
-
thanks! much appreciated, because I'm unable to find it on hp's website even after ~45min ><
-
Yes, 6.6 is not a bad score.. But i heard that other people are getting 6.9.. and I think thats the correct score for 6770m.. And I am pretty sure that the graphics are set to high performance amd for that game... And I'll have to check the driver versions.. I havent updated them and have been using the stock drivers.. I got this laptop about 2 weeks ago... Do I need to update the drivers?
