yes...mine does.. is that a problem?

Avoid Centon Rush 3.0 like the plague! Absolute false advertising, it never went faster than USB 2.0, it gets recognized as a 3.0 device due to its hardware ID, but doesn't perform like one.
I ended up getting a 16 GB Patriot Quad channel 2.0 mem stick for now since it was only $19. It reads at 33 and writes at 23, which beats out the so called Rush 3.0. BTW this device was doing reads and writes about 1-2 MB/s faster on the 3.0 port than on the 2.0 port, weird. -
Yes it did thanks. Basically just needed to see where the service cover was and how to remove it so I can upgrade the RAM and HD next week. Shouldn't be that much different from the V6-V7.

Hi...
Can anyone recommend me a good quality notebook sleeve for the dv6qte (15.6)? I need the sleeve to store the notebook and prevent it from gathering dust. Also I will use it as an additonal layer of protection while putting the laptop in the bag. It should fit the dv6qte nicely, not too loose and not too tight. I'm hoping for some recommendations from people who have these sleeves for their dv6qte.
Also please recommend me a good cleaning cloth or kit or something? Is it safe to clean laptop esp. screen with these cleaning fluids? Or is water good enough? I have a small mark on my laptop screen. Its some sticker mark like when a sticker sort of gets stuck on the screen and u peel it away it leaves some sticky mark on the screen. Its small and doesnt affect me but I wanted to get rid of it.
Thanks -
I am trying to decide between 5400 or 7200 rpm hdd....is the load times gain from a 7200rpm worth the extra heat it produces or the loss in battery life...
+ i see some people have the 1866mhz ram...where can i get it from and for how much?
is it a good idea to get the 2-year extended coverage with accidental protection for $230? -
Guys, does the dv6 have sata 3 capability? Has anyone tried a sata 3 ssd on it?
-
Yep it does. My Vertex 2 is connected at 3 Gb/s and DVD drive at 1.5 Gb/2
-
SATA III and 3Gb/s are not synonymous. SATA III runs at 6 Gb/s. The Vertex 2 is SATA II. Vertex 3 is SATA III.

I'm not sure why some people are spending the extra money on the 1866Mhz RAM.
According to Intel's website, even the i7-2820QM processor only supports DDR3-1066/1333/1600:
Intel® Core? i7-2820QM Processor (8M Cache, 2.30 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR00U, SR012
According to the HP service manual for the dv7t it only supports up to 1333.
I read an interesting article on Anandtech that there are only noticeable performance gains under certain demanding tasks and circumstances for 1866Mhz:
AnandTech - Memory Scaling on Core i7 - Is DDR3-1066 Really the Best Choice? -
I originally purchased the quick ship dv7 off the HP site and found that it did not support SATA III after the fact from talking to HP Tech support. They told me that only the custome notebooks had SATA III support. I have not seen this published in writing in any of the HP specs though. Has anyone else?

Hi,
I've installed these: Kingston HyperX Plug n Play SO-DIMM Kit 8GB PC3-12800S CL9 (DDR3-1600) (KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G) | Geizhals.at Deutschland
And they run at native ddr3 1600, dv7 6001 -
Haha, yes I know my name just does make it very obvious that I am german
That's what I thought, warranty will work but the return will be an issue (I dont want to make it such a big deal w/ sending it back to the US - and who knows who's paying for the shipping?). Also I was gonna close my credit card (actually debit) account in the US for the reason that I am leaving for good. So a refund on that one will be a problem as well...
Nevertheless my order got declined last night anyway (maybe because of a different billing/shipping address - I am moving the approx delivery days, so there's not that much of a choice :/), so let's see what will happen when I'll call them at 10am
-
Yes, go with the 640gb 7200rpm. It's a Samsung drive, and is very quiet, fast, and I notice no negative heat or power consumption issues.
The 1866mhz ram is a waste like others have stated.
I'm not fan of the accidental protection at that price, but if you're accident prone, it may be worthwhile. -
Can you tell me if the 750G 7200 rpm drive is also a Samsung? If not...can you just tell me it's not a Seagate!

i have a question concerning the dv6t Quad Edition.
Is the 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768) a glare or anti-glare display ?
Because if it's anti-glare this would be great.
The resolution of the Full HD Display is too big for my needs because i want to gamble some games on the laptop. Thus the 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768) would be the best choice i think... and if it's anti glare it will be my next laptop ! -
I am pretty sure its not anti-glare so it is glare - if I am wrong, pls someone correct me
sorry s1mn!
EDIT:
Display Choices:
15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
15.6" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
So if it doesnt say anti-glare at the cheaper one I assume its glare, also thats what I saw in videos etc. -
You can just get the FHD screen since it's anti-glare and then drop the resolution to 1366x768. Just an idea. And then you'd still have the option to bump up the resolution if you decide to.
-
Hm can anyone who owns a notebook with this display post some screens how strong the reflections are ?
Is the graphic power of the 2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics enough for the 1080p resolution and for current games ? -
That's a Windows thing, not your laptop. My old Acer running Windows Vista does it also. Shouldn't be a problem. -
The stock screen is glossy. Just get the 1920x1080 display, it's the most important upgrade. Don't base your resolution decision on how well you think games can run, you can always change the resolution in your game settings with no performance loss. The screen is what you look at all the time and should be the first thing you upgrade, since it affects everything you do. Side-by-side windows are a no-go on 1366x768 because everything's so huge. If you're really buying a laptop solely for game performance, look at the Sager NP8130 or NP8150, because the HP is designed to be a well-rounded productivity + upper-moderate gaming laptop.
The 2GB graphics card makes no difference over the 1GB, it's a scam by HP because they know people think VRAM = performance. Even the 1GB card is powerful enough to run many games in 1080p.
If you want a matte screen that:
- doesn't have a terribly low resolution
- doesn't have a resolution as high as 1920x1080
look at the Sager NP5160
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np5160-clevo-w150hn-p-2999.html?wconfigure=yes
But you're losing 25% graphics performance going from the 6770M to the 540M.
Look on the same site for the NP8130 and NP8150, but with those laptops you're sacrificing battery life, and they cost more. -
My dv7t-6000 has a Toshiba 640GB 7200 rpm drive. However, my first one (returned because of a faulty webcam) had the Samsung.
-
The 1366x768 is a HORRIBLE screen - cheap, washed out and terrible viewing angle. dont get it. -
HP always take it down when they release a new revision of the current generation... you see it again in a few months.
It was to reduce the amount of the abuse of their return policy.
-
what did ye guys use to fix the scrolling on the touch pad??
-
It is on my siggy

great thank you ...DeusExMachina

I am thinking about getting a dv6tqe using the current 33% off coupon but the one thing I am concerned about is battery life, what is the battery life people are getting (9 or 6 cell)
-
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I got the HP DV6T Quad Ed in steel gray and I also got a free Xbox 360 4gb. I think I also got a student discount
. I've been looking for a good laptop for my photography, modeling and schooling. I was going to get the Macbook Pro but then again I'm a student on a tight budget
My order date was June 5, 2011 and estimated delivery is June 17, 2011. I was just wondering if anyone knows how long the clearance delay is? I want to get my laptop before my birthday
(June 20) and I live in California btw.

Clearance delay
ANCHORAGE, AK
Customer has requested non-express clearance.
Thank you! -
When did your order ship and what was your expected ship date? I ordered on June 8, 2011 and mine is still in production.
-
It was shipped on June 13.
-
I would guess that you would have it by the 17th. Mine arrived a day earlier than the arrival date.
-
what tv tuner would work best with the hp dv7tqe
-
the clearance delay is an issue with customs. it takes as long as it takes. My first DV6 was out of Anchorage in a few hours. the next one took more than 3 days. keep your fingers crossed that customs officials see fit to soon sign off on the HP shipment that your unit is part of.

Major problem with my HP dv7t quad. No 5.1 sound through the HDMI out.
HP has not directed the audio through the Radeon HD 6770 graphics card that supports up to 7.1 and lossloss codecs. Instead, the audio is going through a crummy Intel Sound Card that only supports 2 channel.
So much for the "terrfic" Beats audio system. What a ripoff! Does anyone have a solution that has proven to solve the problem. The HP technical support staff has been useless in numerous calls. They have no clue.
Why would anyone pay a premium price to have a laptop set up as a media server and accept 2 channel audio when playing a Blu-Ray disk with lossloss audio codecs? -
You can always show your displeasure by sending it back for a refund.
-
I don't own the dv6tqe...yet. I was in Costco yesterday checking out the dv6 laptops that are in silver color to see what the dv6tqe might look like in person. However, I have no idea which ones would look similar to dv6tqe. Anybody has any idea?
Thanks -
Mine is also in AK and having a clearance delay.
Ordered: 3 June
Estimated Ship: 21 June
Shipped: 11 June
it shipped well before the estimated date so im not too bothered by the delay but it is annoying. -

This can be changed if you go to Control Panel...User accounts...Change user account control settings...move the slider to the 2nd notch up - on the right it will say (do not dim my desktop) in bold -
Does anyone have a possible solution for this? I was wondering why I couldn't get 4-channel audio. Ripoff indeed. I was willing to wait for the graphics issues to be resolved, but this is ridiculous.
-
Deus, I keep forgetting to thank you for posting that. The EnvyTouchpad app from Reil works wonders for the touchpad!
I knew they used different sources, but I didn't realize they were shipping different versions of the 640gb 7200rpm drive. I haven't heard or used the Toshiba, but the Samsung is great!
I haven't tried it yet, but it certainly sound like nothing more than a driver issue. It may actually be as simple as associating the switchable graphics for the PowerDVD app to Performance mode to force use of the 6770m. -
The audio was even easier than a driver issue... Go into PowerDVD settings, under the audio tab, configure to output HD audio to an external device. DTS-HD Master audio is coming through loud and clear!
I'm currently watching Avatar from my DV7T-7100 through my Denon 3311CI AVR to my 1080p projector with no issues whatsoever. I can even continue to surf with the BD movie running in the background by ALT tabbing out.

Man! You got a future version of the dv7t... guess I'm going to have to return my 6100 series now
-
Obsolecence, ain't it a ! JK... it was a typo. Should've read 6100. I was one handed typing, because I'm on a 6ft. HDMI cable, and my lappy is on a side table. Now, if we can just get WiDi drivers working with secure content at 1080p, I'll have a reason to buy a box!
-
Could someone post a video of a game being played (not ingame but with a camera pointed at the screen) on the 1080p screen? I'm close to buying this laptop and I was curious as to how good the colors would be in a game.
-
BUMP. Anyone???
-
Regarding Solidworks use, I can only say that this machine screams. No frame drops on zooms and scrolls and works very quickly to solve analysis. Even though it isn't a Quadro or Fire Pro, it works very well.
-

To clean the laptop screen, I have always used Monster Cable screen cleaning spray:
Monster™ iClean™ Screen Cleaner
or
Ultimate Performance TV Cleaning Kit
In fact I just purchased some a few weeks ago from here:

I have used the iClean for years, a bottle like that lasts for many years.
