meaning ati 5850m is faster than ati 6770m? =/
I was looking at the gameplays on youtube
    they are running great though..

I was thinking to purchase an upgrade from 1gb ati 6770m to 2gb ati 6770m
but most user told me its not unnecessary tho, so i go for higher cpu lol
hmm lets see what i7 2820 can really do... :)

What would be the best way for me to go back to the 8.830.6.2000 HP graphics drivers? Right now I am using the 11.7 drivers (8.872.0.0) and I installed those on top of the 8.871.0.0 so when I roll back the drivers in device manager it just goes to that since it was previously installed. Would it be ok to just install the HP drivers on top of what I already have or are you suppossed to uninstall the previous driver first? Im fairly new to this so i'm not quite sure the best way to do this.

    Give Driver Sweeper a shot:

    Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

Install it. Reboot to safe mode (F8) and remove your current drivers in safe mode. Then install the 8.830.6.2000 in windows and all should work fine

    It depends what you want..
Asus - if you want extreme portability and mediocre performance and don't need discrete graphics
Toshiba - if you want extreme portability, not compromising with performance.. Not sure with quality though
HP - for overall quality and performance. (I would recommend customizing the specs on the dv6 select ed. as you want and ordering... would fall cheaper)
Lenovo- for performance, cpu and gpu , the 550m is real good

    decide

550m is way slower than ati 6770m
Even ati 6770m is faster than nvidia 555 which alienware m14x is using right now.. I was comparing these 2 laptop alienware m14x and hp dv6.
Finally I bought hp dv6 due to higher performance, battery life and weight! :)
By the way how's the battery life on hp dv6 yea?

yes... 6770m is way better then 550m... But what TrunksSSJ23 is looking for is not probably a high gpu performance, but cpu performance and portability... All the options he is confused between are all mid-range portable laptops with high processing power. All but Lenovo come with integrated gpu, so I guess he doesn't need a discrete one... The lenovo comes with the 550m discrete gpu in the same price range... The Lenovo is portable, has i5 and 550m is simply a gift in the same price range as other of his options... So I would recommend that
BTW... I have a dv7 and I get around 5-6 hours of normal usage and 1-2 hours of gaming... the dv6 should get better battery life

I have the regular 6-cell battery in my dv6t, and with the intel graphics, I get around 3 hours of solid use. I haven't actually measured it, but that's what it seems like.

Semi-Wrong. The 555m has 3 different versions. The best version which is used in the dell XPS 17 and some other brand I don't remember, is slightly faster than the 6770m is most games besides starcraft 2.

i'm comparing hp dv6 with alienware m14x dude..
and sadly hp dv6 is faster than aw m14x with nvidia 555m
and most importantly the battery life is greatly long lasting..
m14x only can handle 2 hours (THE MOST)..
hp dv6 could handle 6-7hours i guess with 6 cell battery?

I get no where near 6 hours with the 6 cell battery with normal usage. Maybe if the computer is just idling I could get closer to that.

You can get 6-7 hours of light use (no multimedia) with the 9-cell. Don't even think about it with the 6-cell.

My i5+6770m is fine. Under heavy usage (starcraft 2 and ALOT going on) it get warm, but nothing hot enough to cause discomfort. For everyday tasks, it's fine.

Windows predicts 5 hours if I'm doing nothing with all power saving features turned on. Expect 3-4 hours, not 6-7 - This isn't a netbook :p

Yeah, my last post was with high performance selected. With the power saving plan, Windows is predicting almost 5 and a half hours. It would probably be true... if I did nothing. I wouldn't expect much ore than 4 hours with real use.

Windows tells me I have 10 hours of battery life when I do nothing, and I know that's wrong. Windows and batterybar disagree on how much time I have left all the time -_- Not like I ever use up the battery past 40% though lol.

I posted at the modding thread, but I figured I'd offer here too. I will be pulling apart my laptop soon to replace the display cable with the dual channel one for the 1080p screen. I plan to get an AUO b156hw01 v.4 to put in the laptop. Anyway, I wanted to ask if anyone wants me to take specific pictures while I'm in there. If so, speak soon. I will be ordering the cable this afternoon.

Depends on how much you have to spend, under $1000 it's the best bang for your buck you can get...6770M is able to run games with pretty good fps and it tends to get around 80-85c while gaming. Build quality is decent, there's some keyboard flexing but overall it's quite sturdy. Desktop replacement question goes back to how much you're spending cause for under $1000, it has best specs you can buy but if you're in the $1200-1300 I'd start looking at Sager.

it is a decent laptop, during gaming "The Witcher 2" my CPU reaches 91C, GPU 82C, but changing CoolSense setting to coolest reduce temp CPU 82C, GPU 75C without performance loss. so no overheat concern. as for build quality it is O.K. (not great) i.e. some keyboard flex and u should opt for FHD screen as HD ones are of low quality :( .

I would suggest reading the thread rather than speeding it along towards 1000 pages of more stupid questions that can be answered with searches and a minimal amount of reading (apparently for this being a text based medium, some just can not read). This is the owners lounge not the 'hand outs for lazy people thread.'

On to the topic: I have bought two dv6tqe and they're are both great, excluding the Blu-ray combo drive problems. The HD 6770M on both overclock so wonderfully the benchmark scores make me want to put down older gaming desktop and build a new one.

Is the wireless card in the dv7t Quad Edition the same as the one in the Envy series?

Does it support dual band wireless?

Here's what I'm about to order.

HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC

    • Dark Umber
    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
    • 2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • FREE Upgrade to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • FREE Upgrade to 750GB 5400RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • No Additional Office Software
    • No additional security software
    • 30% OFF! High Capacity 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.5 hours of battery life +++
    • 17.3" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
    • FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Wireless Display Support
    • Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

At this point I'm really only concerned about the wireless card, backlit keyboard, and the graphics card (as far as gaming) but I'm gonna bite the bullet and just buy it with this 30% OFF coupon and see how I like it.

And then I'm thinking about getting my own 2 8GB memory sticks and an SSD definitely to do my own upgrades after I receive it.

But first I just want to know what model intel wireless card is gonna be in this laptop and how it compares to the Envy. Thanks in advance

I did a rundown while watching NFL network and getting ready for my fantasy draft. With wireless on and surfing web, default HP settings for unplugged, I got 4 and a half hours almost to a T. Fantastic for an I7 Sandy. These Sandy Bridges are truly remarkable chips.

Stay far away from HP's cheap budget-quality notebooks. (Yes, the dv6 series is budget-quality.) HP uses WLAN whitelists so you can't change the wireless adapter, and the card they like using in CTO budget notebooks is the Intel WiFi Link 1000. (not dual band)

The Envy is treated more like a business notebook, in that they use the Intel Centrino 620x cards...

    1st off I'm talking bout the dv7t Quad Edition....not the dv6....

2nd another forum member who I contacted regarding the wireless card said that it was possible so long as it matched the "whitelists" you were referring to. I would like to replace the Intel 1000 with a 6200 or 6300 IF possible. Can anyone else weigh in on whether or not this is possible?

To those guys with the 2720QM who upgraded to the 1600mhz ram, I am considering doing the same...did you notice a significant increase in peformance compared to the 1333mhz ram? Thanks a lot

I swapped the RAM on two dv6tqe with the 2720QM. I never tested the factory installed RAM because as soon as the machines were out of the packaging the RAM was changed before they were ever powered on. Both came with the "free 6GB upgrade" and the two 4GB SoDIMM ended up in my Asus UL80VT. :D

I figured it was worth the upgrade from the asynchronous dual channel (this takes a performance hit but is still faster than a single channel) 6GB (2GB + 4GB) DDR3-1333 to dual channel DDR3-1600.

    It is DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) & DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) not 1333 MHz & 1600 MHz RAM. ;)

    DDR3-1333
    • Memory clock - 166 MHz
    • Bus clock - 666 MHz
    • Data rate - 1333 MT/s (Megatransfers per second)
    • Peak transfer rate - 10.6 GB/s

    DDR3-1600
    • Memory clock - 200 MHz
    • Bus clock - 800 MHz
    • Data rate - 1600 MT/s (Megatransfers per second)
    • Peak transfer rate - 12.8 GB/s

The 1333 and 1600 was referring to the speed (bus clock) i.e. 1333 = 666mhz * 2 (since it is double date rate) and 1600 = 800 mhz * 2 . From reading forums it seems most people went straigh to the 1600, did anyone do an actual comparison? trying to see if it's worth the $100. Thanks.

There is finally a more reasonably priced 16GB DDR3 SoDIMM kit available now for those wanting or needing it. This is the first time I've seen it under $1000 USD most others are still twice that price and more.

    * CT2KIT102464BF1339 - 16GB kit (2GBx8), 204-pin SODIMM , DDR3 PC3-10600 from Crucial.com

*Ignore their typo; there is no way the are selling 8 pieces of 2GB DDR3-1333 for that price.

    EDIT:

The use of the word "speed" applied to a clock is a misnomer (something known to be untrue); speed is a rate referring to the magnitude of velocity (meters per second) of an object as where clock rate is measured in a unit of frequency (hertz) i.e. how often something happens.

While I have never found anything saying one way or the other, I am curious to know if the dv6-60xx series is capable of being upgraded to 16meg of ram as well?

Just learn to admit when you make a mistake.... and if you are going to try to be arrogant and unecessarily define a word, do it right: misnomer means a name that is wrongly or unsuitably applied.. something known to be untrue....i think you meant misconception :p

Any helpful input regarding the 1600 Mhz frequency* ram from anyone else out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My only mistake was dignifying with a response. DDR3-1600 is represented in the unit of Megatransfers per second.

Hmmmn...why is this owners forum so bitter and angry?

Anyways it looks like I'm returning the dv7t and getting the Envy due to the whole wireless thing. I've got 2 conflicting reports and I don't want to chance it. Its too bad really. HP just can't seem to provide a simple laptop that has all the essentials I want. If I get the Envy I'm giving up the nice look and design plus fingerprint reader. While if I get the dv7t I lose the aluminum construct, backlit keyboard, and better wireless and graphics cards....
