Anyone tried the 90w HP Adapter with the dv6tqe? Does it work well?
-
I use the kensington 90W on my DV7TQE, it works fine, if you have hp power manager installed it would show a notification that your notebook can perform better, but i ignore that message and use 90W (When i am away from home)

My spacebar and a few other keys have started squeaking on my 6 month old 6121tx. Is this normal? Can I complain? Or can I fix it myself?
-
HP support would take care of this (they would replace), however you will be out of a laptop for 10 days (Shipping and return)
-
my spacebar was squeaking on the right side but it doesn't anymore.. no idea what causes it.

Need some help getting my new lappy and new SSD running the way I want.
Bought a new dv6t in late November. Also bought a 60GB SSD with the intent to move the factory HDD into a caddy where the optical drive was.
No issues installing the SSD or removing the optical drive and replacing with the caddy ($15 on ebay) containing the factory HDD.
The problem I'm running into is around installing Win7 on the SSD. I was able to burn the recovery discs (4 DVD's) using HP Recovery Manager and I can play the DVD's using the optical drive in an enclosure (connected via USB). The problem I'm running into is when I initiate the Recovery process, I'm unable to select the "Minimal (clean) Install". It's displayed but disabled.
Anyone suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? How can I get Win 7 installed on my SSD? -
Nothing a little bacon grease wont fix.
-
The recovery disks looks for the HDD that came with the factory, so if you remove the SSD and throw the default HDD back to the original caddy, the recovery would work, but that is not what you (Anyone having SSD) want.
So you have to download the win7 copy and use the key at the back of your laptop, do a clean install and install all the drivers. Before you do a clean install with a separate win7 disk, take a backup of the SWSETUP folder from the original HDD (If you still have it intact), if you don't you can always go to support.hp.com and download the drivers and software (selective)
http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html
The above link would get you started with the download of Win7. Good luck -
@ all who have purchased dv7 in dec
my order status was updated and showed credit/return complete ... at the end mention of $39.30.. though i hav already received my laptop....did anyone experience the same thing ? can someone explain whether i m to pay them or getting money back ?
P.S. i hav already contacted hp chat ... dumb ppl dont know anything ... reading me out " its about return credit ... we r sorry to know u want to return ur laptop " .. though i did nt request for return !! -
How do I reset the webcam and all it's settings, drivers etc to it's factory defaults? I don't know whether it was me or something else, but it has been screwed up. The picture is too dark. If I go to YouCam->Advanced Settings, and change exposure settings, the picture becomes fine. BUT then when I exit and try to vid chat in GTalk/Facebook, the picture is back where it was.
-
I'd try using the dv7-5000 software for this. It works for my DV7
This is usually done when offered credits for purchase. They give them automatically after shipping. Although I always seem to have to call, maybe I'm not patient enough. -
@ Phisherman
so basically i m getting $39 back ? coz i yet to see anything in my mastercard account ? at time of order they charged $960 .. so if they give me refund this would cost me just $921 !! -
It takes 3-5 days for credits to appear. I should work for HP!!
At least thats how they did it for me 2 times this month. -
I have 4 extra restore discs for an old dv7t-6b00CTO. P.M. me if you would like to buy them.
-
Unfortunately, you can't even give them away. The discs are encrypted with the serial number of YOUR machine on them. Should someone try to recover using your discs...it will fail...On my original Envy...I had the motherboard replaced and the tech messed up my serial number by adding a # in front. My own recovery discs no longer worked...
-
so... any news if there will be some kind of update (new hardware or backlit keyboards perhaps?) any time soon?
was thinking of purchasing one this week if no major changes will be made to the specs until summer of next year perhaps. -
who wants to pay if you can do something for free but with the windows back up and recovery manager how many gbz will that take caus i have 4 4.7GB cds for it would that be enough and you didnt answer my ques if i would need a windows ultimate cd to use the windows ultimate serial code i have lying around and also since i orderd the laptop around nov will it have the ltest drivers or will i have to get them where can i find them and what order do i install them in??
-
Thanks for that!

Looks like HP is now taking orders for the refreshed dv6-6cXX and dv7-6cXX notebooks!
It's not clear yet if HP is putting in the AMD Radeon HD 7470M or 7690M cards in these. PartSurfer has the 6490M and 6770M still listed.

I recently bought a dv7 and I am quite happy with it! I am just wondering if this have SATA3 or "only" 2, because I am going to buy a ssd. thx for reply
-
Your machine has the HM65 chipset which is SATA III...go for the SSD you will never regret it. Get a SATA III SSD like the Crucial M4 or Kingston HyperX and you'll never look back
-
thx a lot for a quick reply bob
i am really looking forward to it
I looked at OCZ agility 3, what do you think? I know lot of people here recommend crucial m4..
-
OCZ has one of the worst track records for support. Most people have been going with Crucial, Kingston or Samsung. OCZ has an agreement with Sandforce that they get the firmware upgrades first...but within a week...everyone has them. Many many complaints about OCZ's tech support not being very good.
-
Ok, thanks. I will choose something from crucial kingston or samsung
but firts I have to buy hdd cable to connect it to motherboard..
-
I don't know much about sata or chipsets but I benchmarked my Samsung 830 sata3 128gb ssd in my dv6tqe and got over 500 MB/s average read times.
-
So i suppose thats definitely SATA 3
amazing speeds wow
-
hey guys, any info if the dv's are getting better graphic card upgrades than the 6770m in Q1 2012?
-
Hey dv6tqe owners, I'm looking at getting one of these bad boys for myself but I have a couple questions
1. Does it get very warm in the keyboard area under load?
2. To anyone that has the 1080p screen, how is it? Viewing angles acceptable, decent brightness, etc? -
Hey I put up a video a while ago of the 1080p display. Check my signature for the link.
-
Hey thanks that helps quite a bit.
I'm trying to decide which to get, a dv6 or an Envy 15
Hard choice :/ -
I actually wish the DV7 would get a little warmer cause the front stays ice cold and is kind of uncomfortable to use.
I think the screen is great, I run the brightness at about 50% usually. Especially in a dimly lit room. As for viewing angles, it is good, it's a laptop so really isn't needed to be viewed at an extreme angle like a TV. -
Hey everyone, I'm planning to buy the HP DV6-6165tx . I live in India at the minute btw.
Just wondering if it will be able to handle software like 3DS Max and Maya? The screen isn't FHD, but I've read a thread on here about upgrading the screen which I'm hoping I can do on this model?
Ta in advance, hope you've all had a good Xmas! -
Hey guys, my DV6T has a default of 4 partitions. I read that I can't have more than 4 partitions without making them Dynamic. I need to create a partition for Ubuntu installation, can anyone give me tips on how to do this?
-
Well, try the windows ubuntu installer and see if it'll allow you the install with no changes
if not, one thing you could do is create a set of recovery discs and then delete the recovery and hptools partitions
or another option would be to do a clean windows7 install
-
That's WUBI, right? I'm trying to dual boot it that's why I need more partition.
I already made my recovery discs. What's the use of HP_TOOLS? -
yes wubi, it'll setup dual boot.
the hptools partition is used when you flash your bios. I did a clean win7 install on mine and don't have those 2 partitions. -
What's the consequence of me deleting that partition without doing a clean install of Windows 7?
And do you know how many partitions do I need to install Ubuntu? -
I haven't did this yet, but if you create an HP windows restore disc/usb, you will have the option to delete that partition.
-
I have a brand new DV7 with SSD and the stock HDD.
The machine came with 6770 2GB Card, when windows was installed it gave a 6.7 for graphics performance, it has come down to 3.1 (I just did a random check today)
Nothing changed, i have the bios at FIXED and High Performance in the ATI catalyst.
I tried various options (Dynamic and high performance), nothing changes. Any ideas? -
Guys I'm planning to update my BIOS (currently F.13), is there anything I should know before I try this? I've never done a BIOS update. Also, which is the most stable one, I have a dv6t-6000 quad. Amd graphics.
-
I will never dual boot again after setting up virtual machines with Virtual Box, it is just too much trouble messing with partitions.
-
The main reason why I'm choosing dual boot is because of the performance. How's the performance of Virtual Box?
-
I am using an i7-2720/8g ram with virtual box and am amazed how well things work. Peripherals are handled in a somewhat generic manner, so may NOT work as good as a true boot, but very good never the less. I wouldn't try gaming using VirtualBox, but I use an audio editor without issue
-
Yep, with Intel's hardware virtualization (which pretty much gives a virtual machine direct access to the hardware) things move along quite well. I think the benefits of using a virtual machine are worth a little performance drop. Partitioning is pretty much permanent unless you want to rebuild your whole HD from scratch. With a VM you can reclaim HD space in a few minutes if you want to, or even move the VM image to another physical computer if you need to. You can run several virtual machines with different flavors of Linux without having to re install from scratch each time or further partition a HD and making things even more complex.

I have a couple questions for those of you own an HP DV7tge Quad.
I'm looking into getting a new laptop and saw that HP has some coupon codes for the DV7tge Quad Edition. It's running about $799 after coupon code.
Specs:
HP Pavilion dv7tqe Quad Edition
Processor 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 GHz
Graphics card 1GB Discrete GDDR5 Graphics AMD Radeon
Memory 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Hard drive 750GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive
17.3" HD+ HP BrightView LED (1600 x 900)
Blu-ray player
My questions are "How good of a deal is this for these specs?" & "Would you recommend this laptop at this price after having used it for awhile?"
I've been out of the computer loop for about 4 years now and I'm lost in the sea of i-series and A-series cpus, not to mention all the possible GPUs out there.
Mostly looking to do some simple tasks on this laptop but would also like to be able to run some newer games like skyrim and starcraft 2.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. -
Yes, its good. Get the Faster HD if it is offered for 20 bucks or so. And the Full HD display is highly recommended. I would also get the High capacity 6 cell battery for little more run time.
-
this computer that you put up will definately be able to run skyrim high-ultra settings at 30fps or so. Definately get the 1080p matte HD screen and upgrade the hard drive or if you have your own SSD then even better just swap it in and see this thing fly.
I have the 2720Q 3.3Ghz Turbo boost i7, radeon 6770M gpu, 8gb ram, 1080p screen and the 9 cell extended battery.. I just swapped in my ocz vertex 3 120gb SSD and my boot times are about 17 seconds from shut down to being able to fully use the computer.. definately a great deal at this price compared to say an alienware or any other laptop with these specs -
avejoe, if you're getting a blu-ray player, then you definitely should get the 1080p. Otherwise you won't watch bluray discs in their full potential. Well, unless you'll be plugging into a hi-def TV to watch them.
-
mine shows 6.6 :-/
check your switchable graphics and make sure the app for windows score is configured for the radeon, not the intel?? -
Trixx won't let me adjust the voltage on my dv6-6000's 6770M. Ideas?
