I already used cpu-z and it reported B2 as seen in previous screenshots. No big deal, i don't hate HP or anybody, just think they shouldn't be shipping these.
-
It's HP home&officer number........the rep.......is not good...
ahhh
last time I called resolution center, that rep speak english very well and her voice was quite enjoyable, but this one....
(mine isn't good though )
The rep just keep saying I got a good discount (hell no, if I re order I can have $100 off current $909 build)
She didn't offer me any discount or express shipping. ( i didn't ask though)
Anyway, I just ask her to cancel it. Hopefully it works, because I need a notebooks for my classes. Didn't expect they delay
-
HP should probably just come out and say:
"Yes, we had to flash these to use the previous codes for BIOS and driver compatibility. These are not the flawed chipsets."
From what it sounds like this is exactly the case. If it isn't, as other people said, HP would be setting themselves up for a class action lawsuit.
This is all conjecture until someone cracks open a DV6t and DV7t and looks at the physical codes. -
Just got my new dv6qe, im noticing seriously problems with video playback using the 6770 GPU in the form of "blockyness and lag". when i switch to the intel graphics its much better.
Anyone else experienced this? im trying to see if drivers need updating... VERY worrying -
So we have a couple of facts to deal with:
1. Multiple software tools indicate that your BIOS is reporting B2 to Windoze.
2. Other, non-HP computers have been proven to show B3 chipsets as B2 in CPU-z, etc.
3. HP says your serial number was not built with the bad (B2) chipset.
(3) is good enough for me, as I don't think HP would tell a whopper of a lie like that. Others probably want more proof.
What's that line in Control Panel_System_Device Manager_System Devices as shown in the pic below?
Is it different?
-
Wow, anyone else with a dv6qe should def check this.
Keep us updated ! -
Guys, do you think this B2 Vs. B3 maybe an issue also for the Envy 17 SB people? Should we be running CPU-Z to confirm? Thanks.
KJ
-
look around for an option to enable hardware acceleration. Betcha it is OFF
-
I THINK you are going to find this in EVERY SB laptop (all manufacturers)... for the near term anyway... somebody prove me wrong, and I will be the first to admit it.
-
Jerohm, thanks. I posted this info to the Envy 17 SB/3D thread so we can check our systems once we get it. Good to share info across threads. Appreciate it.

it wasnt

New dv6t Coupons: HP dv6 Coupon Code, dv6z dv6t Select, Quad Edition i5 i7 Laptop Deals
Not sure if it's any cheaper than the ones before, but seems like it at $345 or $382 off. -
then DISABLE it and report any/if changes
-
I don't think CPU-z is informative.
I'd use the instructions here.

nothing changes, im having very bad playback particularly on youtube. like i said it improves somewhat when i switch to intel graphics. downloaded new drivers, which did not do anything, dont think they were new actually, fiddled with some graphics settings but still nothing. im really very amateur at this stuff so dont know what to do next...
-
How is the dvd / blu-ray playback ?
-
THIS is a good suggestion .... take internet throughput out of the equation...
YouTube is flash ... right? There may be other implications/settings.
Make sure your flashplayer driver is current
Right clicking on a YouTube video should bring up settings... Lower Leftmost icon (I think) -
Had this issue with my 5th gen. It got better later though...for some reason ha.
-
Does anyone know what the second button (near the power button) on the new laptops does?
-
Btw, so the only two people who got their new 6th gen are Lucky and LizardKing? No one else?
-
per service manual, opens a web browser
-
@ antonpug@ Does anyone know what the second button (near the power button) on the new laptops does?
its to access you internet browser quickly -
My DV6t is sitting at home in it's box. Arrived today.
However, I'm sending it directly back to HP because even after asking them for a week and a half to cancel the order before it shipped they were SOMEHOW incapable of doing so. I ended up ordering a DV7t instead, which is supposed to ship on Apr 5.
I think it was in this thread someone mentioned something similar. Was it you, Anton? Decided you wanted to cancel right after ordering and they said you'd need to send it back? Craziness.

Just played a dvd, play is shocking, refreshing slowly like when you get those lines across the screen, also "blocky". I dont know how best to describe it but its like when a few "blocks" still have remnants of a previous image like they cant catch up.
Im seriously disappointed because the design is perfect for me. keyboard is great, thought i wouldnt like the umber but its actually really nice, nothing like endgadget pics. graphics are horrendous, my machine is probably faulty. checked chip set data, says Rev 4.
ill have to call hp tomorrow, ive got a headache from the graphics now
-
played .avi files as well, play also bad, refreshing slowly. used jetaudio, vlc and windows media player to test playback. all poor.
-
@LuckyGuy
how is your video playback? media files/internet video/dvd? -
flash is latest
-
Do a battery test plz
-
Lol. That's kind of dumb. How hard is it to click on a browser icon? HP is going back to the good ol' days when everything was accessible from the keyboard haha
-
Yeah. I ordered last night, I already had a replacement, this is my second time, so they made me order online, promising to "price adjust", however when I placed the order, I got a confirmation which had completely wrong specs. They told me they can't cancel it. I flipped a lid on them...it's not my fault that they have faulty website. So they said they will "try" to cancel it. meanwhile I placed the correct order. If the first one shows up on my card I am claiming as fraud.
-
CPU-Z shows rev 4? Or device manager says Rev04? That would mean it's an affected chipset. Now, if Luckyguy confirms that his Bluray playback sucks...then HP is in a lot of trouble. It would mean they undervolted the SATA port for DVD/Blueray and it is now underperforming.
-
@daf323: I think ripwind is right here. Returning your laptop would be a mistake. Even if you waited six months and placed the b3 inside yourself I bet the tests would say the same thing.
-
device manager.
im just having terrible graphics problems, dvd playback is better with intel on-board graphics than the GPU. want some more graphics feedback before i don anything drastic, im not a big gamer but i will certainly be using it for media so i need decent graphics. at the moment its unwatchable -
Yeah, waiting for 6 months to put one yourself, might as well buy a refurbished or new with 90 days warranty for almost a half of the price of brand new with 1 year warranty or opt into the 7th generation models.
-
I am not sure what you mean by on-board vs GPU...how do you switch?
-
You missed my point entirely. My point was, even if you watch them put in the b3, these tests will show b2. You either need to check the serial number or look at the processor directly. I'm betting that these processors ARE b3.
-
Can someone with one of these new laptops please run 3dmark06? Its nice seeing the 3dmark 11 and Vantage numbers, but 06 would really give us a better idea I think.
-
you right click on desktop and gives you the option to switch. very easy i must say. so ive compared playback with both graphics options and the GPU is worse than the processor's on-board. Its actually unwatchable, dvd internet video and .avi and .mp4 files
it might just be my machine (which arrived today). im waiting to see, but there is NO WAY i could live with these graphics -
I have a couple of questions...
1. Has anyone received a dv7 quad yet?
2. My estimated ship date was 4/4... when do you think I will get my computer? -
Is anyone familiar with the value of the 3 year care pack from hp that includes the loJack and how that works with the intel AT technology available for this computer? Which company does HP use for loJack services? Was anyone else interested in this, and its ability to use 3G to disable the computer through the processor vs just the bios or software?
-
I'm really appreciating you guys on this thread. Good info, but at the same time I'm really disappointed about all these issues, video plackback, slowness. Funny thing is I just returned a brand new Envy 17 3D SB because the Envy tech support told me that after I ran an Hard Drive Test from F10 that took over 5 hours...he said that is not normal. It should have taken 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes tops.
Yeah, it sucked, but he said even if he sent me a new HDD the performance would still be slow as molasses. My Costco bought dv7-4283cl with a 5400rpm HDD outperformed my Envy with 7200rpm HDD... crazy, right?
He said my motherboard had a bad pathway, I think in bios or something. Anyway, I'm waiting for my new build...but still worried if all our systems are gonna suffer or mine was just a dud....as I see of your systems are suffering... Now to wait for more of you guys to test your systems...and us on the Envy side to test ours.
HP better be on the up and up....I like the look of the machines, as you guys do to since we all are buying these...but they must perform as we intended them to!!!! Let's keep track. Thanks again.

-
My Estimated Build Date was 3/30. I have heard anything from HP yet. Going to call in soon.
-
Do you know if the old model only offered on-board graphics?
You should call HP and ask them.
Is the on-board performance good? -
No I just returned one for this refresh.
-
The issue is with the chipset. The processor has absolutely nothing to do with it.
-

Did you update to these drivers? -
So what is the bottom line? How can we be sure we have the correct and fixed chip set? Isn't it by the link below?

Well, this has been posted before, so do we agree that site will let us know for sure? Or is there a better way?

@LizardKing
I have no problems with my playback of DVD's or avi's. Mine seem to be running fine -
Chipset. There is no way of knowing, as of now.
