Not that I claim it is big deal (or even works on this laptop at all, but it SHOULD), but Intel Wireless Display isn't supported by the 2630QM. HP makes about $100 additional profit on the 2720QM; You get ~10% performance bump for $150 ... (The 2820QM price bump is FAR harder to justify). If you figure it should fetch at least a ~$25-75 premium when it is time to sell the laptop, seems reasonable.
Ref: Intel Wireless Display -
Correct. Once the BIOS is updated it sticks to the system. It is separate from Windows.
-
So does that mean that you can never update BIOS again unless you reinstall windows? Is it worth it?
Hey all, I expect mine today, but just found out that with the new offers from HP I could get the 8gb RAM and add bluetooth for the same price. Currently this is what I ordered.

HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader

Should I keep it or is bluetooth and an extra 2gb RAM worth waiting another 3 weeks? I don't have any bluetooth accessories (KB/mouse etc) but possibly in the future I could get them. I have read about stuff like wireless USB, do you think those would work over WiFi or bluetooth. Thanks. -
I know it also includes Intel Anti Theft 3.0 which includes killing the processor if a theft occurs, also reporting the latitude longitude of the laptop. I think also but may be wrong, that it includes WiMax, and 2630 does not
-
So just so I am sure I'm gettin this, after everything... Dv6 has b3, power for a backlit keyboard, and aren't we able to replace the screens with a 1080p screens ourselves. Thanks for the help
-
So my dv7 was supposed to ship last week thursday. I called today and they said it has now been pushed back to "supply shortage" and wont ship until April 8.
The rep said she would put in a request for free 2 day shipping
-
What kind of matrix in DV7?
Chi Mei N173O6-L02, LG LP173WD1-TLC3 or something else? -
The email request is a ploy to delay you. I went thru the same thing twice. If they are truely a resolutions department then they should have the ability to resolve an issue on the spot.
-
My estimated ship date is today 4/4.... I'm not holding my breath.

I had ordered a Lenovo Y560p yesterday morning, but last night I saw a new $375 off coupon for the dv6 Quad. I decided to go that route since the dv6 had a better GPU (6770 vs 6570) and larger, faster hard drive (640 GB 7200 RPM vs 500 GB 5400 RPM), all while costing about $100 less than the Y560p. Only problem is the Lenovo would ship within a two days while I'll have to wait until at least April 25 for the HP. I think it'll be worth the wait to get the better components for a lower price.
-
For two day shipping I essentially said there was no point in me having to pay for two day shipping since my laptop was delayed (i had already purchased the two day shipping). If you haven't already bought two day shipping I would just complain about the wait and assert free two day shipping is the least they should do.
I actually got a rep from online chat to add the 15% delay coupon to my already discounted order just by pretending like the delay wouldn't allow me to use my computer during a business trip and asking "how do I cancel my order?" Once they decided to give me the number to resolutions I mentioned that the week delay wouldn't be too bad if I could ADD the 15% discount code I got in the mail. -
HP gave me a build date of 4/4/2011. How long after that does it normally ship?
-
Well my dv7t was delivered to my house about 20 mins ago, sadly I'm at school and won't be able to pick it up till this weekend. So depressing. Time to see if I can bribe someone to drive me.
-
I was actually wondering if any had posted pics of a dv7 yet. I have seen plenty of posts and pics about the dv6 model...but I dont think I have seen dv7 yet.
Anyone ? Thanks
-
Does anybody have a feel for the battery recharge rate, 6 cell or 9 cell?
-
Nice, thanks
-
Hi all,
I've been looking seriously at the dv6t due to the GREAT price combined with good components...and supporting switchable graphics (as opposed to Lenovo's 560p).
I don't NEED this laptop until mid to late summer, should I hold off buying...and if I should what should I pay attention to over the next 3-4 months? -
Well, my build date was April 1st and have heard nothing. I contacted support and they said "wait 48 hours" for an update and that my build hasn't been delayed. One representative said it had been built and that the proof would be e-mailed to me. That "proof" turned out to be the same status I can pull up online that shows "in production". I contacted another "live chat" rep this time and got the runaround to wait 48 hours. I said, that I had already waited more than 48 hours since the build date of April 1st. I also said that I would be greatly disappointed if within 48 hours I find out the machine is not built and not shipped, as has been assured me.
-
How many here have physical custody of a dv7tqe already?
One? Two? I know I've seen pics of one with the access cover removed from the bottom. -

Don't think the dv6t has switchable graphics. The order options would specify if that feature were available, and it's not on these machines. -
I believe they do have switchable graphics. It has been posted by a few people who have received their notebook already. Check between pages 102 - 108.
-
Yes, they do. You can have them be conditional (Plugged in or on battery, etc.) or switch them by right clicking on your desktop.
-
Just received my dv7qe. Oh yeah.
-
Reviews (Initial impressions) and Pics, lets go !

What was your ship date?

I ordered a DV7t on 3-22, and my estimated ship date is 4-5 - has been static. Will be interesting to see if one or the other (or both) ships.
-Rip -
Same thing for me also, only difference is I got 6gb ram, not 8. Going to call/text support and see if I can get the 15% off coupon added and maybe free 2day shipping. I'll let you guys know if I have any luck or not.
-
Im not sure if this question was covered or not but does anyone know if the dv7t screen is 60 or 120hz. I have got conflicting reports from HP itself. When I ordered the dv7tqe i was told yes it was. After talking to them to get more info out of the parts they were using they could not find whether or not it was 60 or 120.
My other question was does anyone know what SSD they are using.....PS config below waiting till April11 with next day shipping ....cant wait like xmas.

Not sure how AMD's system works, but can you have it run on the discreet GPU all the time if you want even if you're not doing anything that would require it? -
It's almost 100% gonna be 60hz, the only 120hz laptop HP has is the Envy 17 3D
-
Unless they changed with this set of updates it's the intel x25-m.
-
Got my dv7qte today too! It's about time! Just for those who are requesting 2-day shipping, it's good if you get it, but it didn't make that much of a difference to me. The resolutions dept. told me they would submit a 2-day shipping request for me too, but FedEx still showed 5-7 day shipping. But, my order got picked up on April 1st, and I'm getting it today. I mean, it's literally been 2-business days, even with 5-7 day shipping.
-
So...for battery life estimates. People are saying 3.5-4hrs normal use on the 6-cell battery?
If so, a clunky 9-cell battery would give you about 7 hours of battery life, which is pretty good considering the high caliber parts. I wonder if you could disallow the processor from increasing its power usage regardless of load...and if you deactivate the discrete graphics if you can get up to 10hrs on a 9-cell. That'd be nice.
BTW - I'm comparing the 55Wh of the 6-cell to 100Wh of the 9-cell. -
There is supposed to be a new motherboard coming out (I forgot the name), which is supposed to add a benefit of being able to support caching for SSD's. I recall hearing the release was going to occur in late May or something.
-
Even if it doesn't make a difference at all I want 2-day shipping so I can feel like I got something for having it delayed.
-
Okay. It's the Z68. Read about it toward the end of this article: Intel Discovers Bug in 6-Series Chipset: Our Analysis - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
-
...then let's play around with our dv7s for 20 days, and then let's return it to get the "new-improved" chipset... and so on forever... LOL
-
I just ordered one of the preconfigured sandy bridge pavilions. I spoke to HP about running two external monitors with this laptop while also using the notebook screen at the same time. I was told that this was possible as long as the notebook had both HDMI and VGA ports. It does but I am wondering if I can connect through HDMI to VGA or DVI just using a passive adapter on the HDMI port. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
For all those who's laptops have been delayed, if you call HP resolutions dept to request either free 2day shipping or to apply the 15% discount to your current purchase, they will tell you that no one in the dept has the authority to grant this and that they have to email management to get it approved. Then they never call you back. Don't accept this, it's a delay tactic.
-
Then what should you say when they offer to email management?
-
Actually, the one rep I spoke to early this morning asked me if I would be willing to take a survey after the call was over. I agreed, and she said she would put in the request for two day shipping as my laptop was supposed to ship last week.
I just called a few mins ago and asked what type of shipping is scheduled for my notebook, and truly enough I was told 2 day shipping.
Now, does this mean I am guaranteed to get 2 day shipping ? Of course not... -
It doesn't use automatic switching (AMD has yet to release such a system); it's manual. You're either fully on dedicated, or fully on integrated. However, there's no hardware switch. You don't have to reboot, but it is HIGHLY recommended that you close all applications when switching. (I can't even tell you how many glitches not doing this has caused on my dv6t-3000, and the switching on the new model is exactly the same based on what all of the owners have said.)
-
saturnotaku Notebook Nobel Laureate
+rep for the answer. As long as I can have some degree of control over the switching (versus Optimus which tries to do it for me), I'd be OK with having to reboot if necessary. My system would be plugged in 95% of the time, so I'd want to be on the discreet GPU anyway. -
Thanks! I'm checking out the new z68 chipset, and I'm not sure what to make of the whole quicksync/virtuu drivers. I understand the idea of this new chipset allowing machines with both integrated and discrete graphics to utilize quicksync, but the whole virtuu bit is a bit confusing. Seems like overall it might be a better chipset for the sandy bridge, as it seems to have been designed with the sandy bridge processor in mind.
Is SSD caching something the dv6t can do? Doesn't it only have one HDD location?
