What are you using it for? That's basically the only deciding factor, because there aren't any features that really would make one laptop outshine the other.

the dv6t wins in gaming performance (due to lower native resolution), portability and battery life.
The dv7t wins in expandability(2 HD bays), warranty(2 years instead of 1), productivity (due to higher native resolution) -

Just worked out a deal on the HP 3 year accidental coverage warranty. I called and said I wanted to add the warranty, and the guy said it would cost like $210 because I didn't purchase it when I bought the computer, so I was not eligible for the $60 rebate. I said, "awe you can't help me we out with this, I just got the computer last week." He came back with,"ok, let me talk to my supervisor and see what I can do since you just got it last week." Then I came in real quick with, "well I was actually hoping to also use a couple of these rebate codes I have here." He says,"ok, give me the rebate codes and I'll go and try to get you the best deal I can on the warranty." After a couple minutes on hold he comes back and lays out the deal. He takes the full price, subtracts the 15% coupon then credits me back $60 making it $118.49. I'm not usually an extended warranty guy, but with this thing seemingly being rushed out and all, I figured I'd take the saving I got on the machine and put it towards a little bit of piece of mind.
Dealing with HP is like dealing with a car salesman. You and your neighbor bought the exact same car from the same dealership, yet one of you payed more. With that said, I may have paid a bit more than some people, but at least I have my computer right now. It is ridiculous the way HP keeps offering better deals before your unit even ships though. I'm just glad to be off that train, because unless they start giving these away for free, I'm cool with what I got. -
Also, the dv7 can hold two hard drives (but you have to buy a $33 hardware kit to get the SATA cable for the 2nd drive). If you want to put two drives in the dv6, you have to get a drive caddy that replaces the optical drive. -

And yes, i would totally want to be in your shoes right now. Although i am with a functioning computer right now, i am itching for the new one. It will be the biggest technology upgrade i've done to date. -
Hey all, I haven't checked this forum for some time. I've had my dv7 since 4/5, and so far so good. That is except for the wireless internet. I was told that my att gateway (only a few months old) was the culpret as it kept dropping the signal. I never had that issue with my 5 y/o dv5120. So I bought a netgear wndr3400 dual band router as the HP tech (who was really knowldgeable and helpful imho) suggested. Fast foreward to today. I spent at least 3+ hrs with HP techs and am still having the same issue. While reading other forums, I used suggestions and almost had it working. I was getting full signals, but with a "speed" of 1.0 to 12.0Mbps. The older laptop was fine. So far while sitting next to it, it is ok, but thats not where I use it. I expect some drop off because of walls, but poorer performance than a 5 y/o laptop? I'm still not sure what is the problem (card or router), but it seemed that others have had ssues with the Intel WiFi BGN 1000 card.
FYI I was able to get a workable signal with the router at 145Mbps, but when I put it at 300Mbps it again had full bars, but "limited or no connectivity". And have never been able to reach those speeds. (@ 145 setting = 72Mbps sitting next to router; @300 = 150 next to router)
I am totally confused and a step away from sending the computer and router back. Any clue? Anyone else having an issue? Thanks in advance. -

My estimated ship date is today. I was assured by a rep it would ship, but it hasn't happened yet. 1:38 left HP 1:38...

Thanks for the quick reply.
The driver is updated, or so it says when I click "upgrade driver" I checked hp's driver site and the one installed is something like 14.0.0.2 and the one on the site is just 14. Don't quote me on that I just remember it being a lower number. Now I'm trying to change channels to see if that works, I just have to keep walking to where I've been dropping the signal and then coming back close to the router to change it. (at least I'm getting excercise lol) -
I mean i'm not an IT guy, but what i'd suggest is trying to uninstall the driver, have the one on the HP site loaded on a USB, and manually reinstalling it... unless you've tried that already. Make sure to make a restore point though. -

hey guys. so im enjoying the speed of my new dv6, which i bought partly to use as a htpc, digital media center. But i'm having an issue i hope you can help with.
I hooked the 'puter up to the tv via hdmi, and then a spdif audio out to the receiver *its older and doesn't have hdmi* This works fine with my cable and blu ray player, but the computer only recognizes 2 channell audio and thats all it will put out. I tried updating drivings from realtek and added the k lite codec. But im starting to think that the tv won't accept 5.1 because it only has 2 onboard speakers, and the computer knows this, and won't pass through 5.1.
So i tried hooking the 3.5 mm headphone jack via toslink adapter and cable to the reciever. No go! apparently the dv6 does not have an optical out enabled jack. Any ideas? Can i get optical out somehow from the dv6? Anyone know of a way to "force" 5.1? i tried using xbmc, powerdvd, vlc, wmc, mcc, and nothing worked. all 2.0 channell audio.
thanks. -

I have kinda a nooby question. I purchased my dv6qe on the 16th with a estimated ship date of the 30th. And of course I received the delay to the 11th email. But It never updated the HP site. Still says estimated date of the 30th. Did any of yours upstream on ho's site. Or did they all stay to the original date? Thank-you in advance

Well I got an email early this morning saying my dv7 has been shipped!!!
My original build/ship date was 4/4, then got an email that it had been delayed to 4/15, but actually shipped on the 9th. I chose standard shipping so it will still be a few days before it arrives, but that's okay.
QUESTION: Will someone have to sign for the package when it arrives? FedEx won't just leave it?? I see there is an option to "pre-sign" for the package....not sure what to do.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

Wow !!! Still shipping with the intel wifi 1000 single channel 2.4 GHz card. No option to upgrade to dual channels 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi. !!!
So if you are like me with a wifi network of 2.4 and 5 GHz you will need to upgrade the wifi card to the 5x00 or 6x00 intel card. -

Also, any links to compatible backlit keyboards and possibly even screen upgrades?
