Its good enough to watch 1080P mkv movies.. better video decoding than most entry graphics and about same gaming performance as HD 5550.

 

If you want a video game comparison, you can run Starcraft II on High Settings/Graphics with no lag. So yes, it can pump out 1080p video no problem.

 

Even the old intel's gma x3100 ran 1080p videos well and that was like 4 years ago.

my friend has 3 dead pixels on his desktop Acer screen.

He gets rid of them by repeatedly "tapping" on them (with his fingers), and they return for a while.

 

This is a very good point. I had a DV7T for a week and besides being lied to by the Fry's sales guy telling me it was a quad AMD and really being a dual, I was really on the fence about lugging it around. I travel and it couldn't fit in my airport vetted, TSA line tested bag. I loved the numeric keypad and fingerprint reader, but couldn't get over the size.

I figured that if all I really wanted was a bigger screen when on the desktop, why not just go even bigger, like 24" when I needed to.

 

Went back to the store and played with a dv6 and I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. HP's customer service and inconsistency's with there products has lead me to pass them again. Acourse my buddy's brand new envy that overheated definitely isn't in the back of my mind lol.

 

dv7, order date 3-23, estimated ship date 4-8, that's been my status ever since the order was placed. Anybody else with an original ship date of 4-8 get a tracking email or a delay email yet?

I've heard nothing from HP, but that can sometimes mean my ISP lost my email for me.

 

I also ordered a dv7 quad on March 23rd, got an estimated ship date of April 8th, and also haven't heard a word from HP.

 

I would think it should be coming soon since you ordered a couple days after me. I ordered on the 21st, est. ship date 4/4, delayed to the 15th. Received my email on the 10th that it has shipped. When I pulled the tracking info it says est. delivery date 4/14.

Maybe you'll get your email Monday or Tues.

 

I ordered a DV7 the same day and have a April 11th date. However lastnight I recieved a BLANK email from HP. Go figure. Its still to early for me to call them and figure out what the blank email should of been. But I am guessing its delayed. If its delayed I either want 10% off or I am going to cancel.

I also ordered 3/23 and have an estimated build date of 4/8. When I called HP about it, they said my laptop had already been built and would probably ship this morning.

 

Quick update.
I don't know if anyone has posted this but I was given this number below:
"You may contact our Resolutions Team at 1-866-217-6014 between 7:00 AM - 2:00 AM EST, seven days a week, then ask to speak with a Supervisor for better assistance."

And they were able to tell me that my laptop is built and waiting to be shipped.
(Weather that is true or not is anyone's guess)

I ordered a DV7 on may 28th with an estimated ship date of april 11th. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great info while i wait for it to ship. I cant wait to get rid of my old clunker desktop i built years ago.

I picked up a Mediasonic HF2-SU3S2 3.5" USB3.0 & eSATA 4 Bay External Enclosure for my old drives and so far works great with usb 2.0. Its pretty basic as theres no raid or jbod but it does what its supposed to.

I plan on doing a clean windows install to get rid of the crapware does the CD key on the bottom work or do you have to call Microsoft to activate the oem key?

The customs stuff is pretty much beyond their control. Most of them ship from Shanghai to Alaska, then sit there for a few hours or a few days until Customs and Border Patrol decides to let them through.

Just got another $50 credit after calling resolutions, complained that manager never called me on thursday 4-8 to tell me if I was approved for two day shipping. Also got $30 credit on 4-5 for complaining about the delay.

Ordered 3-20 estimated build date 4-1 delayed to 4-11 currently still in production. Total after credits $810.

 

Can one of the new DV owners report the weight of the machine?

 

So on the sad side of everything,, I ordered a DV6QE on March 16th, With a estimate build date March 30th, delayed to April 11th,,, No email so far,, I am keeping my fingers crossed and holding my breath to receive a email from HP today or the next day. Maybe there is a DV6 shortage, who knows.

Now my real question, Have we come up with a Lighted Keyboard option for the DV6QE? I know we stated that the ENVY17 keyboard would work for the DV7, but are the DV7 and the DV6 keyboards the same size? Thank you in advance

Yes, the dv6 and the dv7 use the same keyboard. But it havent been confirmed that the Enly 17 keyboard would work or fit. It seems to be the same size and key layout, but some keys have different functionalities. Maybe you can fix it with drivers.

When ripwind tore apart hid dv6 he found a connector under the keyboard that wasnt in use, so maybe that would be to power the backlight.

If someone who got their computer and who knows anyone with an Envy 17, they should definitley try and see if it will work.

I will take a video of me unwrapping it when i get it. So is this laptop as good as im hoping it will be? I had a dv6 3000 and it didn't run as i was hoping it would. I had a i3 350 processor, and 512 mb 5470 gfx and it failed, so im hoping my new dv7 is so much better.

A question for those of you who have already had their laptop shipped....for how long was your computer "in production"?

 

Anybody know if we can use the 15% coupon for the delay in our orders along with the new coupons for dv6/dv7 quad notebooks? If so, that'd be a savings of 45-48%. This might make me want to cancel my order and reorder since its already delayed.
