    I brought a intel 6230 from provantage.

It worked on my dv6 on bios F06. Maybe check your connections, you might either didn't put it in right or you got a defective one.

Im so glad to hear that. my dv6 is on the way as well as a 6230 card. good to know it will work. bought it at lpc-digital. currently cheaper than provantage if you include shipping and has a picture of the card.

Well dv6t quad edition now has FREE Blu-ray drive.
Does anyone who already ordered wants to try and call hp and see if he can get something out of it?

Problem is that they don't offer that 33% off coupon or 8 gb ram upgrade anymore.

Physical upgrades can be categorized as Buyers Remorse. The only way you can get a refund is if you purchased the Blu-Ray and you want a reimbursement because of the now free one.

    Well tried it, guess what?
    Code:
04/27/2011 09:31:26PM Agent (Annie D.): "I will process a $50 future credit back to your account."
04/27/2011 09:31:53PM Agent (Annie D.): "This will be processed 5-7 business days after you receive your order."

Well that's not 100$, but 50$ is also isn't bad, even good considering the 33% coupon I used has expired.

I don't think anyone here can give you the right answer, you need to talk with hp about it ( as do we ) and find out what it means.

Somewhere in this forum, there is a picture of the hp site, and it says there there is a 2 year warranty, if you find it, you can talk with hp and give them that picture as proof.

If you talk with hp, do tell us how it went.

Any chance that extra power port on the board can be used for a touch screen? I've replaced screens but never a touch, I was a fan of the last models touch screen as was curious if it was a mod I could pull off?

Hello everyone, I just received my dv6q today. Btw, I'd like to ask, there's an update available from windows update for the radeon 6770 driver, has anyone installed that update? is there any issues with the graphics switching?

    Thanks :)

As enticing as Blu-ray is (and it is), I really feel that it is completely unnecessary. I don't want to say that no one buys or rents Blu-ray disks, but you can watch any movie you want through other services or a PS3 and the laptop (unless it is your primary media player) is not ideal for viewing them. That aside, as far as BD writers go (which is not free, but cheaper I guess), no one really needs to burn that much data, and if you do, I think that it's cheaper to get an external HDD (I got a passport 1GB for $70) than to pay for BD's. Optical media is on the decline, piracy at an all time high. In fact it was estimated the last DVD (I know it's not BD) would sell sometime in 2015.

And the 33% coupon is unbeatable. It really is.
And I am so happy because of the 2 shipping delays, I got $150 back as compensation. Almost $600 off a $1300 notebook! :D

I second this. Although I recently started seeing the difference between Quadro, FirePro, and normal cards, Business class notebooks see to be so expensive for the same spec. I understand they might be more durable and maybe have a spill-proof keyboard. But people who take care of electronics, take care of electronics! If a laptop is going to fall a significant amount of feet, then it will break regardless. And HP has HDD smartprotect which will save the HDD data at the least.

Just finished chatting with the rep. and they said it's 1 year. I used the picture as a proof and the response i received was that they're sorry for the inconvenience.

I tried to state the fact that they gave us the wrong information when we had purchased, and now that it is different from what we had before, there should be a compensation or resolution for putting the wrong information to the customers.

However, the rep. just apologized without any changes to the orders. :/

in the end, talked to rep. for almost an hour to find out that dv6t is 1 year warranty, and we do not get anything from the wrong info. -0-

I wasn't talking about getting a blue ray or something like that, but using that the blue ray is now a free upgrade in order to get some money back.

I've already posted that it worked, I got 50$ credit back.
My ship date is May 9, so I don't expect to be delayed ( so the 10% off after the second delay is out of the question ), so getting 50$ is very cool.

I see. Well that's awesome, and I'm happy for you. But it depends on who you get. I tried doing something similar. When I ordered it was free 6GB upgrade, and when I saw that it became 8GB free, I called and tried to get some compensation and the rep simply did not allow it. I could have tried to call again and see if another rep would do so, but I got compensation for delay shipments and with coupon savings ($600 total) I guess I was just tired of begging for money back. I am sure if I call I can get someone to give me $50 or something for Blu-ray upgrade, but to be honest with you (and I am a cheap cheap person since I am still a student) I feel that they have helped me so much I actually feel bad asking for more.

Who knows maybe I'll get over it and ask tomorrow.
But I know people really don't think much of HP, but so far my experience, with this DV6qe and last year with my brothers DV6z, I love, simply love HP. Especially because they are the only one's with crazy coupons.

I'm a student too, that's why I'm glad to get anything, to be honest, I don't mind getting delayed twice and get a 10% off :), but I know that's not gonna happen, so 50$ is nice, not 600$ like yours, but still good :)

According to the service manual (page 98), the 1TB drive option is 12.7mm in height. So, yes.

DRIVERMAX! as soon as you turn it on back up ALL the drivers up to a flash drive and then install the corresponding OS (win7 x86 or x64) ITS free. Install drivermax again to RESTORE the drivers. EASY SIMPLE.
DriverMax - free driver download program for Windows XP & Vista YES it WILL work with win7.

Clean Installs are ALWAYS better than factory bloat removal manually, if you have (previous post) drivermax or related driver backup program.

Guys and Gals, is there a SIGNIFICANT difference in performance in doing a clean install, vs. just removing bloatware ?

I am not savvy at all in this matter, but if the improvements isnt that great, perhaps Ill just stick to removing the bloatware as best I can.

    Just received my notebook, finally.

    Thanks everyone

I had issues with video switching with different user accounts setup. The update seems to have fixed it, but each user that wants to do switching has to be setup as an admin user. Standard users still will not be able to do video switching. In fact, standard users always default to IGP 3000.

No 6770m without running in ADMIN mode?
That seals it. When/if I ever get my orders, the one that's going to a MMO gamer is getting a fresh Win7 install with MSI Afterburner and the latest AMD video drivers. The IGP 3000 can stay disabled, and he can play online games without going online in ADMIN mode.

Wow...finally order placed 21st march just signed for it tis morn--got my
dv7t after 3 delays--havent turned it on but did an upboxing that im gonna post to youtube soon..Not bad looking lacking in some aspects but on a scale of 1 -10 I give it an 8 for look, size, weight and battery. Now I just gotta boot up. I am a tech so im gonna leave the bloat to test speeds but then of course gonna do a clean install but I dont think i will have to after im done with my own special ways of cleaning a system up gonna make it puke all the crap out from regedit. Run it hard for the before the 21 day return policy expires. I got the 9 cell thinking it would be a monster hell is smaller than my dell and my dv5t battery--gotta get the test running see if its a 9 hour charge doubt it. well it may hold a charge you just cant touch it :) Gotta make sure the B3 chip is in there not the B2----I will be pissed that means they just started to fill orders because they were running out of time-What i dont get is they just sold over 13000 dv7t units on Qvc quick-ship for $849 that I wouldnt even think of buying who buys those P.O.S's...dont get it lol.. latz

So, I think I've verified that we have use of Quicksync in Sandy Bridge since we have GPU switching capability. Have a look what Power Director 9 can detect when GPUs are switched.

Find windows update in your start menu, once opened, have it look for updates.

Anyone who does a clean install must think there's a significant improvement. Sounds like you're trying to avoid the work. If that's the case just remove all the startup items.

"Windows + R" keys (or Start Menu --> Run)
    Type in "msconfig"
    Hit Enter
Go to the 4th tab - "Startup"
    Uncheck Everything*
    Click Okay
Exit w/ or w/o Restart (changes don't go in effect until you restart)
Make sure you click the box that says don't remind me.

*Everything that you don't want starting up when the computer starts. All the crap will still be on your computer, but at least it won't be running in the background.
*By everything I don't actually mean everything. You'll want the video card software, beats audio, etc to start. I'm not on my computer, so can't tell you what start items I have. Google "msconfig startup guide" or google each individual entry if it doesn't make sense to you.

regedit is simple though! Example say u have iTunes and wanna get rid of everything i mean everything(delete it from control panel programs and features first or add and remove depends on OS or use CCleaner) then u would click start, under search type without " "regedit" that gets you to your registry editor----IMPORTANT----not my fault if you dont follow these simple steps and f up your puter Sorry----1st step click FILE then EXPORT on the bottom make sure ALL is high lighted name it where cursor is blinking then save it to doc or desktop where ever. What u just did was make a backup of your entire registry if you f-up you can restore your registry right back to that save u just did....2nd now your at a screen with blank on the right and to the left is five HKEYs--etc.. there dont mess with those what you do is hold down CTRL+F type in the file in this case ITUNES hit enter it will start finding itunes crap delete everything that says ITUNES once you delete that file just simply hit F3 it will continue to look for ITUNES files in your registry for you to delete the left side of your screen will now start to expand no worries its just going through the roots of your computer a manhunt if you will. After your computer goes through the registry it will tell you when its finished and all files are gone X out from there..to finish up go on a hunt for leftovers like under C: programs find iTunes folders then delete them make sure you have your files to show hidden folders so can find all of the ITUNES leftovers..Empty recycle bin restart computer all done thats making sure its all gone and this can be used with any PROGRAM or BLOATWARE u dont want on your computer. After restart find registry scanner like CCleaner just to clean it up once more then iTunes will be completely off your system--better than a clean install unless you have the OS disks or make a boot iso..this way you learn what is inside your registry. JUST MAKE SURE WHATEVER YOU DO DONT JUST START DELETING FILES MAKE SURE YOU READ WHERE ITS ATTCH TO.. THEN DELETE IT ON YOUR QUEST TO A CLEAN PUTER.....Simple and fun but you do come out with a better understanding of how your registry keeps you computer all together and running clean smooth and fast--And you will have control of your system once you learn this...There are many things you can do but I will just leave it at this for now--If anyone is confused in any way you should just stay away from regedit....good luck let me know how it works out for you--latz!

If you search "HP dv6t" and sort by upload date, there's like 20 that show up. All by different users. Probably the same person.

Thanks for the info. I have seen that CCleaner program referred to several times in searches to figure out how the best way to clean up bloatware. I have also seen Revo Uninstaller mentioned a great deal also. My question is if you use the Revo Uninstaller to get rid of a program do you also need to use CCleaner on the registry or does Revo Uninstaller get the entire program?
