What do you think about the dv6 fan noise?
The fan noise is low, but it is always on, and if i'm in a quiet room, after a while gets a bit annoying.
-
Does anyone have a link to purchase a 90 degree elbow adaptor for the DV6T/DV7T-6XXX power connector? This will enable better leverage against Main Board/DC power port connector separation. My current DV7 laptop is beginning to have power connection problems due to my son grabbing/falling on it.
-
well what do you expect...? its a laptop with a monster graphics card...
my fan doesnt come on unless i start using youtube or watching movies, and never goes to highest speed unless im playing games...
and even then, its quieter than most computers..
i personlly think its fine -
What about when using the Intel GMA 3000, I would get it wouldn't be as audible even during Youtube, etc.
-
The "always ON" is a bios setting, but you most likely want that setting.
-
Hey guy´s,
I got my Dv7 last friday. Overall it looks very good. BUT today i figured out some issue with the display while i cleaned it.. i discovered a gab between the display and the frame an it looks very ugly
Here is a Picture :
This isnt normal or ?
Has anybody the same problem? -
I'm going to buy new ram and use the pre-configured in another system; does the dv7 support ddr3-1600? Don't want to spend the few extra bucks if it's not going to be used anyway.
-
It seems that the bezel around the screen isn't fitted correctly or some retaining clip hadn't engaged... try pressing with your fingers near the outside part of the lid (IE. NOT near the LCD panel AT ALL) trying to reengage the clips.
-
i´ve tried this already but did not work because it don´t hold :/ it snaps back every time i try to reengage the clips
-
it is like a bow in the plastic frame :/
-
Maybe there's a cable near the bezel that has moved "out of his place"... I think that the best thing to do is removing the entire bezel, fit the cables under that correctly and then remounting the whole thing... not so easy, I'll admit, but the only alternative is RMAing it.. Sorry
-
is there any guide how to remove the displayframe ? i´m not a pro in this :/

Download it from here

I want to get a 128gb ssd for my dv6t that's coming. I got the 7200 rpm drive, but looks like the ssd drives smoke any hdd. I will use the laptop mainly for Internet etc and ripping DVDs/blurays to an external drive, along with some video transcoding. I also might play dome games and maybe play everquest again. It looks like the m4, 510 or vertex 3 are the real top choices. The m4 is cheaper then the vertex 3. I don't know if it matters or if I'll notice a difference between the drives. Also worried about lifespan, but looks like the drive should last at least 4+ years. Any suggestions?

I wanted to ask the people here who have their notebooks if the Webcam is as good as it seems on paper.
HD - yes  but what about framerates, any lag, grainy? In the Dark? -
No, you are not the only one. Several people in the "Order Status" thread have said their dv6/7tqe shipped several days before the estimated date. This is perhaps an indication that HP is finally delivering on its promises. Go to the "Order Status" thread for more information.

The things you have to put up with.
HP makes you saw off your vga apapter...jeez -
hey guys, What happened to the links to reviews and photos on the front of this thread?
-
AHSDHASDHAHSDHHASHDAHSDHAPFJPAJ:LJEGK!
I have a VGA + HDMI Setup with Projector and Surround Sound!
DAMN! Other than cutting it off, could you get a corner adapter? And you're using pretty slim cables right? -
Has anyone commented or noticed the poor quality of audio for the dv7tqe? Specifically, it doesn't seem like all 4 speakers work on my laptop, and the 2 next to the monitor have very poor sound quality. Just wondered if it was me, or everyone?
-
I don't know, did a little google research and didn't find a slim vga cable or sth., also - I didn't want to wait. -
I would have probably done the same thing, and WILL do the same thing simply because it's a hassle to order and wait for an adapter, but in the long run, I want to find a solution so I don't have to cut every VGA's right side off!
Are you using two external Monitors (or Monitor + TV)? Just curious. -
Is there anyone out there that is still sitting on their Sandy Bridge $500 off coupons?
-
The only ones I can find so far are for the back of TV's in case of a wall mount
Amazon.com: HDMI Right Angle Male to Female Adapter: Electronics
Amazon.com: HDMI Right Angle Port Saver Adapter (Male to Female) - 90 Degree - Vertical F...: Electronics
That is so funny that I need the exact opposite of both of them. And in either case, I don't think that it will work, the adapters are the same size as the HDMI cables in relation to being too close to the VGA port. AGH!
-
Much worse than my old Macbook Pro. Lag is significant and framerate was very low.
-
Just updated bios, through HP Support Assistant, from F.06 16.31 to F.06 16.34.
Went well but no idea what were the changes
-
NO! Freakin crud!
What if one was to change the resolution on the Webcam?
I don't wanna believe you.
Oh well, just a webcam. -
Can anyone recommend a cooler for this?
-
I can't recommend a cooler, but I'm looking to buy one to. I'm not looking to spend too much, but I'm looking at the Thermaltake Massive23 LX and the Coolermaster U2. I also hear that the Antec Unbeatable Notebook Cooler 200 is good
Sorry if its old by now, but I feel the need to add:
OSAMA IS DEAD!!!!! -
2x HP ZR24w (S-IPS) which I got discounted with 4years premium warranty for 500,- total (Euro) here in germany. Good deal - nice monitors.
On the news here aswell.
-
So What are the current issues found with running ubuntu on these
-
Wow, I don't know if anyone has replaced the optical drive with an optical bay hard drive on their dv6, I just did, and removing the faceplate seems almost impossible. I'm about to pull my hair out. If anyone see's or knows anything I don't please let me know. Anyone thinking about trying to look at it just remember there is a screw holding it in from the inside.

How much slower would the i5-2410m be compared to the i7-2630qm in gaming, both with the 6770m...
-
Really depends on the game. I know this doesn't help you out much, but the DV7 tested here: AMD Radeon HD 6770M - Notebookcheck.net Tech had a 6770m and an i5-2410m, so it is a very good estimate of games' FPS's and how they would run on your system(which are pretty dang good!).
-
I have tried the thermaltake cooler and I can't say it makes much of a difference compared to the laptop just being propted up by the 9cell battery
-
The purpose of a cooling pad is to supply cool air to the air intake grids in the bottom of a notebook. If your notebook takes air in from the back and exhausts it out the side, all the cooling pad can do is blow air across the plastic bottom of the computer.
HP has given us the first lappy I've seen that you can place on a bed without preventing it from cooling itself. -
I do not have my notebook yet but I read something here that blows me away about the dv7! The bios has no feature to change the order of boot devices. Is this standard for notebooks? I never had occasion to want to do this on a notebook before but I cant help but think that it would be a standard feature. Why would this feature be omitted especially since there are two drive bays?
-
Two different issues. Yes you can specify the boot order of Devices... Like CD Rom, then HD, ... (USB drive??). ... BUT NOT HD1, then HD0 ... which I don't know why you would want to do anyway. If you want to multi-boot, you install a multiboot loader, that can be configured to boot any drive partition you want. This is certainly the more accepted practice.
-
Kinda like aluminum foil in a microwave ... YES, you can do it, but you better know what you are doing. It is a BAD practice to use a laptop on anything other than a hard surface... especially with the 6 cell ... just don't do it.
-
but there are vents on the bottom, so just because it takes in air from the side doesn't mean heat doesn't radiate out from the bottom when under high usage stress. almost all laptops take in and blow out air from the side, and it's never a good practice to use your laptop on anything besides a hard surface if you don't have it propped up anyways...
-
Thanks for the information. I had read somewhere in this thread that there was no bios boot order choice I thought. Or I maybe misread it. Anywho My reason for wanting such an animal is for me a safety feature which enables me to be back up and running quickly in the event of a harddrive failure. I run a duplicate harddrive that enables me to reboot and in the process go to the bios and change the boot drive to the good drive and am back to work with the least time lost. No changing of hardware or time consuming task like that required. Needless to say I am involved in a time is of the essence type business. Only have to pop a new harddrive in and clone off of the remaining good drive to have another backup. I am probably somewhat unique in my need for this type of functionality but I use it on my desktop and it serves my needs. I suppose I may be able to install a HDD in the DVD drive bay maybe and have control of the boot sequence of the second HDD.
-
I just got a HP Pavilion dv7t with 620 GB HD, 8 GB ram, 512MB Video Card, and Blu-ray drive for $750. So far I am pretty happy with it. I love the all metal case of it and the feel of the keys. I have trouble turning off and on the touch pad though, I wish that it was psychical button to push.
-
I too have reasons for wanting the same thing and asked about it earlier in this thread. While I've been waiting for my dv7, I've tested grub4dos installed a thumbdrive with one of my desktops. Using it, it is possibe to select the thumbdrive at boot time and have it automatically chainboot to the second hard drive. I see no reason why the same cannot done with the dv7 and avoid installing a multiboot loader on hd0. (I do wonder whether the same could be done with an SD card which could be left in place.)
For those who wonder why someone would want to multiboot in this way, all I can say is that there are a number of good reasons and circumstances, but take too long to explain here. They might not be obvious, but they do exist. -
Laptops are miserable to have to change hardware more than a couple of times. For the most part, they are just not designed to be taken apart and put back together many time. On the other hand, disk drives have become pretty dam[n] reliable ... unless they are dropped or subjected to liquids... and in that case, 1 or 2 or 3 harddrives aren't necessarily gonna make ANY difference. I understand what you would LIKE to do, I just question whether you can accomplish your goal ... If you diligently make external image backups, you are going to be no worse off ...
-
There is an option for the recovery 'discs' to be created on a 16G thumb drive(or SD card... can't remember). I have very little doubt that implies you can indeed boot from a USB(/SD) device... but you probably STILL are are going to use a multiboot loader to default to an alternate disk partiton... it just isn't going to exist on hd0.
-
The screen is utterly terrible and washed out. And why are the screen drivers from 06/21/2006? Is this model just a way to clearance out crappy screens?
Anyways, I sold it to my mother because I couldn't handle the screen. Everything else is fine, even the 2 random bows in the cheap plastic. -
I guess I am just lucky somehow as I have had several HDD failures in the past in desktop computers. In my case it is like having an insurance policy to pay you for downtime but it instead prevents downtime. The other obvious benefits are data safety through duplicity and a much easier recovery. Cloning the harddrive is so quick qnd easy relative to the time it takes to reload the OS and update the patches and Service pack and then update drivers and your key program installs and updates. But my need is the quick reboot to a functioning system with all my program capabilities in place and ready. You dont think that fitting a drive to the DVD bsy is doable?
