Well, easiest way to check is to open your drive tray and look for a sensor next to the spindle. Here's a picture [IMG]

You can install LightSribe software from HP Downloads and then the supported drives should be shown in the system menu for LightScribe Control. I was surprised to see it on my dv6t as I did not order LightScribe. Then I reviewed the manual and it turns out DV6T only come with LightScribe drives so online option selections were wrong...

If that's the case, then online selection was/is a scam. HP so slick.

No dead pixels on mine. (or my G72)

Here's how I look for dead pixels:
I make two images in Paint. Both are screen size (1600x900 in my case). One is all white, one is all black. I put them together in an otherwise empty folder and run them as a slideshow in the picture viewer. The whole screen goes black for ten seconds, then white for ten seconds. Any bad pixels should stand out on either the all white or the all black screen.

In my opinion, N53sv only has dv6tqe beat by the resolution screen and maximum supported memory. At this time, you will never need that much memory for a laptop unless you are running it as a server. Who would run a laptop as a server? dv6tqe has much better graphics, free blu-ray, 2 usb 3.0 and great sound if you use a high quality headphones.

One other thing I like about Asus, is their free 1-year accidental damage warranty. HP charges $160 for a 2-year accidental damage plan. If there are more HP coupons out there, you can include the ADP and still be cheaper than ASUS.

Great news. Thanks. I hope this F.07 update will apply for dv6qte with i7-2630QM as well.

Yes the 2630QM ony supports VT-x whereas 2720, 2820 also support VT-d. I know VT-d is even better. But if there is no option in the BIOS, we cant use the VT-x technology of 2630QM with the VM. It improves performance of the VM. Why should we not be able to use it if we have paid for it?
    That is my main point!

I stuck in a 4GB Samsung DIMM to bring the total up from 6GB to 8GB. The 2GB I took out was a Hynix, not the Samsung that was installed in the computers which shipped before the delays.

WEI memory score went from 7.4 to 7.6 with the 2630qm.

Tomorrow I'll have to do something about the 5.9 hard drive and 6.9 video scores.

Hello everyone. I received my dv7 today and I had played with it a bit. I have a couple of concerns I was wondering if anyone is able to help me out.

    1. I feel like the screen on my older laptop, that I got in 07 I believe was much clearer than this one. Whenever I watch a video on Youtube (even at 720p), the video seems very pixelated. Also, when I look at the screen from an angle, I understand that there's a "sweet spot", but everything (not only videos) seems grainy I think. Like shimmery sort of.

    2. Does anyone else notice a "dent" in the middle of the keyboard? It seems kind of crooked in that creates a "V" bent downwards. I hope this makes sense. Here's a pic:

    3. The build/design quality is terrible. Other than the keyboard issue, the aluminum part around the base of the laptop (covering from the optical drive all the way around) seems to be coming off. Pic:

Sorry for the low quality pics, using my phone. My biggest issue is the video/display quality. I'm having second thoughts about keeping this laptop =/

I'm no expert here but I don't understand how that can burn a "screen" across the whole CD for lightscribe when it doesn't span the width of the cd. It just doesn't make sense, please explain how this process would work.

That's true. The drive do seems like it's lightscribe capable. That is the lightscribe sensor, not the burner. It senses for the a lightscribe cd or dvd and it senses the burn as it rotates. Now I wish I didn't opt for the $15 upgrade since it's free anyway.

In india the notebook is not cheap like us.We are getting just 4gb ram 500gb 5400rmp hdd and no bluray drive.
and the price here of dv6t is 1160$ approx which is expensive.

Ok I have a small, possibly noobish question as well. How is it to game on a 1366 x 768 screen? How does a game look like on that resolution?

I understand that we get much better FPS on a 1366 x 768 screen than on a Full HD screen because there are lesser no of pixels for the GPU to drive. But what about the looks? Does it look bad?

Also the 1366 x 768 screen has much lesser pixels than a Full HD screen. So is it that we can see more of the game environment on the Full HD screen than the 1366 x 768 screen?

Also I read that some games do not support 1366 x 768 resolution.

The more pixels, the finer detail you can make, you cant make many images with 4 pixels, 16 is better, 64 is better than that etc.

    1366x768 = 1049088
    1920x1080 = 2073600

That's around twice the number of pixels to display the same image (No there tends not to be an increase in the size of field of vision, so you get no extra part of the scene)

0x00000119 error MAY be because of the video card or drivers. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics card drivers or video drivers Nerdium.

If that doesn't work maybe just try running a memory diagnostic or cleaning the registry.

Also, what where you doing when the laptops crashed?

Is anyone else having the issue where the dv6tqe hangs at restart? Beginning with a black screen with a small white bar in the top left hand corner, and after 2 minutes switching to a black screen with an HP symbol in the middle and just hanging there for infinity?

I've got a problem with HP Recovery.
I made the recovery disks, installed my SSD, and when I try to recover to my SSD it gives an error message and locks up.

"The Destination Drive is not Connected".

Does this mean that the recovery disks are useless unless the original hard drive is drive zero? If not, how do I get it to restore Windows 7 to my new SSD?

I'm unable to do a successful reboot of my laptop, once it shuts down and turns back on it sits at a black screen with a white bar on the top left, then switching to a black screen with an hp label in the middle where it sits indefinitely, the only for me to restart is for me to shut down the computer completely and turn it back on manually.

    Best regards to all,
during the last two days ago I was looking hard to choose a laptop to replace my two years old hp dv5 (Intel T5800 / Nvidia 9600GT / 4 G. ram), I reached two choices:

I posted in what Notebook should I buy? all responses are to go with Dell XPS 15

    1. Dell XPS 15 (Intel i7-2630QM / 2 G. Nvidia 540M / 6 G. ram / FHD display) 1200$
    2. Hp dv6tqe (Intel i7-2630QM / 1 G. Radeon 6770M / 6 G. ram / (1366x768) display) 1085 $

my main concern with Dell XPS 15 is relatively weak 540M (but excellent FHD display).
then again with Hp dv6tqe the graphic card is relatively strong but from what I read in this forum the display is beside being low resolution is not satisfactory and laptop has serious quality issues!! which surprise me since my heavily used two years pavillion dv5 is really of good quality and without problems (beside weak CPU + GPU performance in now days).

    appreciate your advice.
    thanks

Yes the primary drive needs to be in slot zero. There is no way in the BIOS to select a drive bay for booting, bay zero is by default the boot drive.

    What's the quality issue?
My dv6 is really good and even better than my $991 XPS 14 with only core i5 and SLOW GT420m, like 3 times faster.

Dv6t does have better graphic, better cooling, better noise level.

However, its screen is serisouly terrible...........OMG......one of the worset I ever seen.
    #1 worset = Samsung QX430 bestbuy model
    #2 is DV6t

Thanks, they are both samsung's displays

The SSD was in slot zero. The HDD was unplugged.
I could not restore from the DVDs, because the SDD didn't pass some hardware check, even after I manually partitioned and formatted it.

I ended up doing a minimum restore with the HDD on the primary SATA port, and now I'm going to try to clone that to the SDD.

With the DV7, you can swap the drive cables around without removing the caddies, but if the secondary cable is in the groove it belongs in it won't reach the primary port. It'd still be nicer if I could swap the drives in BIOS like I do on my desktop.

Except you can upgrade screens, especially if you went for the 1600x900 version.
