mine is that too.

I am so Jealous now
SEC4251... should I return it?
I cannot stand this screen. -
I just tested this. After switching to the AMD GPU, the changes made in the Intel utility still remain
-
I believe from what others have said that Coolsense is part of HP Support Assistant but I haven't got my DV7 yet.
-
crap if that's true i uninstalled that.. haha
anyway i've been playing around with my dv7t all day and i love it so far, enabled hardware virtualization in the bios and now im playin around with VMware -
so I stupidly reformatted the hdd that came with my dv7t when I replaced it with an SSD. now I need the HP Quickplay (or whatever app that came in the recovery to play BluRay movies). anyone got a link of the app in HP download site? can't seem to find it.
-
Damn. HP Support Assistant was one of the first things I immediately uninstalled. They should give the software a better name like HP Optimization Software or something.

Does your screen have any bluish tint to it? Are the colors nice and bold? -
coastal_carolina Notebook Evangelist
Were you able to lower/adjust the blueness for both graphics cards, or just the Intel? -
i reinstalled the support assistance and i dont see coolsense anywhere, anyone wanna help chime in on this? lol
edit: nm i think i got it, it's under the learn category and thermal assistance -

I am suddenly becoming motivated to do a warranty claim on my monitor.
I have the 4 year onsite warranty with my DV7t. -
If you go looking around the Internet a bit, for everyone that declares "auo139e*" a piece of crap, someone else says it is the best screen they have ever seen.
I think pretty much everybody agrees that Apple consistently has some of the nicest screens ... which you pay a premium for.
* you can replace with any SEC3354, SEC4251, cmo1719, and find the exact same concensus. -
hello all, i am a really happy owner of this product, residing in india...
really amazed at this machines gaming...
the shop from which i bought this lappy told me somthing about hsn+bluetooth for fast bluetooth transfer, but he too didnt hav a clue about, so do i...
can anyone please tell me how to use tat feature? -
Check your PM... Okay so you can't take PM. PM me your email address and I'll send you the link to download.
-
I am also having the CMO15A2 screen panel. And, I don't have any complain about it. The colours are good (not washed out as complained by others). However, it is slight more blueish which I feel is not much of a concern (but it can always be lowered down in the Intel Graphics Control Panel).
-
I've got the auo139e screen. I noticed some bluish as well, but tweaked it and it looks good now.
-
No one to answer this?
-
What EXACTLY are you trying to do ? Transfer files between Bluetooth devices ?
-
The "Screen-Door Effect". That pretty much describes my issue with the monitor. I have never seen this effect so pronounced on a screen before. It is INCREDIBLY noticeable, especially looking at white or near-white objects. Makes me sad. I doubt HP would do anything for me about this ether.
-
For those who don't know what this is. I haven't noticed this on mine, and I don't know which monitor I have. Then again, I might simply be filtering it. When I'm doing android dev, the eclipse background is white with colored text, so I think I would notice it.
-
Are you having problems of overheating while gaming? Some people having the dv6-6017tx are complaining of overheating.
And as for your Bluetooth 3.0+HS query, Bluetooth 3.0 makes use of 802.11 Wifi radio on your laptop to get data transfer rates of upto 24 Mbps. Of course the other device should also support Bluetooth 3.0+HS and 802.11 I guess. But I haven't used it myself so I'm clueless about that. -

Have you tried changing brightness or Gamma? On some of my older machines it's been an adjustment issue. Could also be your resoltuion though. If you're coming from a Higher resolution down to your current (assuming 1600X900) You might personally notice it more. Just an idea as I don't have my laptop yet.

I like the screen ok, the blacks really suck, though. I'll probably still be looking to upgrade it simply because it will be used as a TV/Movie player when I go out of town, which is often.
Wow, ok. The Gamma was set to 1, I bumped it down to .7, might be a little low. Also upped the contrast a tad to compensate for the lower gamma and it is looking better. I still see some screen door effect, but will fool with it more later when I get home.
Doesn't look like anything really helps the blacks, but I can live with it fine. As long as you're viewing alone in the sweet spot.
- Qlippoth -
thanks gyoung, it seems like I can't send PM as well
-
running Windows 7 screen calibration made my monitor to be at least on useable state but yep, I don't think the screen door effect will go away (i have AUO btw). coming from MBP, very big difference. but the power and price make this one worth owning
though waiting for almost a month to have this shipped sucks -
If I were to get a DV7, that is how I would set it up (+640GB 7200rpm HDD).
With the current coupon code, you are looking at a $1,080.99 plus tax. Not too bad.
But that lack of a back-lit keyboard really bums me out.
You might also save some cash and go with the 6GB of RAM...then hit up Newegg for a 4GB strip at a cheaper price. -
I am having a problem with my blu-ray drive and an been on the phone with an HP tech for over two hours! Yes two hours. He downloaded PowerDVD 9 Ultra and I tried to use again. Still same problem.
Here's whats happening...the disc tries to load and makes a grinding noise. It finally returns an error that there is no disc in the drive. All but two of my blu-rays seem to have this issue.
The tech is telling me that the format is not compatible with the equipment. Does this sound right? I know there are different technologies and that some discs may not work, but nearly all of my discs? Seems impossible.
Can you share any thoughts? Anyone else have this problem? -
Thanks for this video. It was very helpful. Anyone have a source for the cable only that will work to reach the 2nd HD bay in the DV7? I installed an SSD as the system drive in bay 1 and reinstalling windows, that went without a hitch however I'd like to find a source for just the cable to connect the drive in the 2nd bay to the mother board. As all of you probably know the caddy for the 2nd hard drive comes installed even if you only ordered one drive. At least that's how mine came so really I just need the cable and would rather not pay $44 (part, shipping & tax) for the HP parts kit unless I have to.

dv7t QE: i7-2630QM, 1GB Radeon HD 6770M GDDR5, 8GB DDR3 System Memory, 750GB HDD (pulled to use in bay 2), 160GB Intel 320 SSD, Blueray & Bluetooth. -
I was having a problem last night but only with certain discs that had labels on them. The drive would grind and sound like it was slowing down and getting stuck. I put the same disc in my daughter's Lenovo and it spun just fine. I'll be installing more software over the weekend and we'll see how the drive holds up. I'm not feeling good about it though.
-
The only thing I can think of (long shot, and I don't have the bd player to help) is that the BD appliances will from time to time require a firmware update to play newer blueray discs as the spec allows the encryption keys to be invalidated. like most things it's more complex than that, but I know we had a similer problem with an older player that a firmware update fixed. Like I said, it's a long shot but the only thing I can think of, other than the player is borked.
Good luck! -
Thanks, let me know what you find. Now approaching 3 hours on the phone. What a waste of my time. After letting him download and install the v9 ultra software, cannot read the two discs that previously worked. He had me remove the battery and drive, then replace the battery and drive.
At conclusion, he has finally decided that I have a hardware problem with the blu-ray drive and will be sending me a new one. Funny thing is, after he did all that, I tried the blu-ray discs that originally work and now those do not work either. I am totally blown away by all of this - so after three hours, they will be sending me a new drive.
Of course, they offered me the alternative of sending the computer in for repair, which does not make sense since I have only had it for two days. -
Thanks...see my prior post on "resolution". Of course, there are only 1:2000 laptops shipped that have any type of problem. Hmmm
-
Thats good news at least. I wouldn't think a bd drive that is recent would need the update, but ya never know! Wish there was a way to get your three hours back! <grin>
-
Thank you very much, sir [+1 repped]. I had uninstalled it because somebody said HP Assistant was only to get HP updates, but that is clearly not all that it is for. BTW, you are going to love the dv7t: the screen in amazingly clear, it's fast (the turbo makes a huge difference too), and the build quality is good (the picture exaggerate its flaws).
-
I have the auo139e. I've complained about it being washed out. After calibration and color tweaking its better - maybe good enough to keep.
I'll have to see after trying to process some of my astro images (like the ones I have done here: Lex's Astrophotography Page -
This is how I waste my time, but only the last submission was created on this computer. Don't get me wrong, the screen is far from perfect with its limited sweet spot viewing angle and lack of true 'black', I just don't find it any worse than every other laptop in the same circa/resolution/price neighborhood.
-
Me too..but oh, well. I have avoided moving any of my data to the new computer, but am now taking that plunge - for the second time after previously purchasing a Samsung laptop and subsequently returning it. The hassle related to moving the data back to the old was time consuming so I hope I don't have to do THAT again.
Still working on tweaking the monitor settings to my liking. BTW I have the AUO22EC. -
I feel like an idiot for asking, but is there a way to use the simple pass to log into windows? I've looked around, but you never know when you're overlooking the obvious...
Thanks in advance -
HP's building these things fast now! I ordered mine 5/4/11 and today (5/12/11) its status is shipped, woohoo!

Hey Biolib mind me asking what the expected ship date was that hp gave you at first?
-
Does anyone know where I can get a decent screen protector for a Dv7? I'd like something hard (to mimic the infinity display look of the old Dv's and Envy's) but I don't think anyone manufactures it or that it could fit. At least a decent film would do just as good, but I suck at installing those on my phone let alone on a pc screen. Any opinions?
-
View Guard. Used it on my previous laptop, worked great and very easy to install.
Official Site of ViewGuard® Products including Privacy Filters & Screen Protectors for Laptop, Notebook & Desktop Computers; LCD Screens; Mobile Phones; PDAs and More -
There is a way, I think it was when I set up the simple pass software. It asked whether to use the same finger to log on to the software as windows. I previously did not have it password protected. I think it set it up for me, not windows. In the help file for the program it has very basic instructions, but I honestly can't remember how I did it. If all else fails, check the Biometric controls in the Control Panel.
-
When you adjust the color in the Intel Graphics Console, the changes will apply to both the Intel GPU and the AMD GPU.
-
I have a CMO15A2 screen. If the others are worse than this I dont even know what to say. I am wildly unimpressed.
-
Thanks for the reference. Repped. FYI though, I wasn't sure what dimensions the Dv7 screen actually is (I'd rather not cut film to fit if I can help it). According to the Maintenance Guide the screen size is listed as "8.54 in high x 15.12 in wide. So far View Guard doesn't have one that shape. I will keep looking though.
-
Do you have a dv6tqe or dv7tqe?
-
im about to do a clean install of windows 7 on my machine. i have about 4 gbs of pictures on it already. what can i do to save them instead of having to transfer them to a usb and then transfer back which could take a long time.
-
anything else you do would take longer than transfering 4gb of files (create second partition and moving the files there, burn them onto a dvd, etc etc)... which should only take less than 5-10 min at the max...
-
Sorry forgot to mention! Estimated ship date was 6/01/11. I don't know how to make a signature, but the laptop's specs should be in my forum profile. I think it was made fast because they have a lot of 2630qm's on hand.
